Congrats to Indian fans on finally winning a test series in Australia. So what it came against Australia’s B team it is a special achievement nonetheless.

So it’s just South Africa left now.

Let’s see when you are able to pull it off!
 
Theres no way India can beat South Africa or even England at their home. Saffas currently have the deadliest bowling attack. We all know how much australia has regressed so this series doesn't really deserve to be hyped much.

I doubt the current Indian team can beat South Africa or England in their home ground though. However, that being said, i believe they would give them a tough competition especially against the former as the latter is India's bogey team.

World Cup winners twice.
CT winners twice.
WT20 winners.

South Africa as a test team is only growing stronger.

Temba Mahuba and Adien Markaram are two magnificent young batters whicwill be pillars of this Sourhern team for years to come. There is ofcourse Quinty Decock!

Their bowling is as good as it has ever been.

India almost beat South Africa just early last year, but they lost because of AB. If there was a series today, I would back India to win since SA's batting is even weaker.
 
Was great chance this time around but we blew it.. Just need the next generation to be one level above the current generation and we should win in SA also..

Didnt India win a champions trophy in 1985?
 
Steyn is on his last legs and will retire before the next tour
India wont allow the likes of Olivier to get wickets
Hopefully Amla will do a Misbah and play till 40

AB-less SA is a minnow level team in Asia and beatable at their home. Their new crop of players got beaten black and blue in the ODI series. I’m confident that India will beat them next time in tests as well

South Africa were strong in 90s mainly because other teams were that much weaker and some teams (WI, Aus, Eng, etc) were regressing/transitioning! I don't see South Africa peaking again to that level especially when other teams have become much stronger than them! (Mainly England & India) Their alrounders were looking lethal (like McMillan, Pollock, Kallis, Boje, Klusener, etc) simply because the specialists in the other sides were rubbish! Today even if South Africa produce players of that caliber they will still fall short against much superior players from other teams!

But somehow they have that home advantage (just like India in India) but I think they narrowly escaped against India who had some selection chaos! I guess India would have beaten South Africa if the tour happened now (after Australian tour!) Victories in LOIs is the indication of that!
 
We will get them next time.ABD won't save them again.
Next time we will have shaw,pant and gill established along with kohli and pujara.

SA are going through transitional phase however they were still a top notch side till about few years back when Steyn, ABD, Amla were at their peak..

So it's not like they were only good in 90's because other teams were bad.. They sustained their top level form till 2013-14 I guess. Indian team is growing in strength now because of investment being done in cricket which is allowing good players to Come out.. It will take another generation for us to get a dominant team like WI and AUS GOAT sides.
 
If kohli learns from his captaincy mistakes India can win in south africa.
However, that is a big IF.

,We have a 2 match series next year and I hope we can get there early and give a game to their first 11.
Maybe a shorter tour will help that but only if we prepare properly and have our first choice 11 n fast bowlers
 
How come the absence of 2 players make this the Australian B team? This is the same bowling attack consisting of starc, hazelwood, Cummins & Lyon which destroyed England in the ashes suddenly after a series loss to India Australia bowling attack became B team? If any other teams have beaten Australia the topic would be the winning team has played out of its skin, it's India we know this will be the comment, next time when Pakistan tours Australia we will see how they bat against these guys then we will know the difference between India & Pakistan.

India has won this series because of the outstanding bowling by their batsmen against a team which is missing 4 of its first choice batsmen.

Apart from Pujara India's batsmen have not done much in the series.

SCG is flat as road also.

At least 3 of the 5 players will be back by that time which will make it difficult for any country including South Africa to beat Australia in Australia.
 
If we are to believe freelance bhai, Maxwell and Pattinson are the only first choice players ever in the history of sports to not be selected even when they are fit.

He has also proved Maxwell had dismantled India in tests at a mighty average of 24 which Mitch Marsh could only dream of. Also Bancroft with a mighty average of 30 after close to 10 tests during which he played the flat track Ashes as well, would have dismantled Indias bowlers which Marcus Harris with an average greater than 30 could only drool at.

I actually believe the opposite. I think India will do better in a 4-5 Test series. That is because we show up for these tours on the last day and generally lack preparation going into the series. Once we adjust to the conditions and the lengths hit by their bowlers, we’ll do much better.

I think the next tour will be ours. We’ll be going in with people who actually perform, not with ones who have the ‘potential’ to perform.

Longer series would always go in the home team’s favour unless they are quite clearly the worse of the two teams by far.

Imagine it being a home fan and you will realise it making sense.

There’s always a chance of a visiting team catching you off guard in a 2-3 test series.

4-5 tests takes the element of surprise and shock out and gives the host enough time k regroup and restrategize.

India won its only test series in England through rain/luck supported 1-0 result. England weren’t that bad they should have won the 1st test easily!
 
Which places are left for Pakistan to conquer? I’m sure they are also right up there.

Aus and RSA only?

Poor post. If Australia can't stop India from scoring 622/7, it is going to lose every series. And this was a full strength Australian bowling unit, not a "B team".

Another poor post. If it wasn't for "rain/bad luck", India would have won a series in Australia long long ago.

But the leaders, Smith and Warner, coming back will increase the bowlers' morale and they would be able to bowl out India for 150 each innings.

A win should be comprehensive. You should try for that when you have a better team. India is clearly a better team than SA at the moment and I’m pretty sure if they organise a 5 test series in SA now, we’d win it. In 2018 we were clearly underprepared and like Pakistan, we were a bit unlucky too.

We were unfortunate to lose in England. It was a closely fought contest. Nothing went our way there. Not even the toss. And England is a good team. We’ll need our best possible XI in good form to win a proper series there.

That was Dhonis team..that would perform better in first 2 tests, Kohli's makes blunder selection for first two tests.

Yah, selection has been poor at times. Incremental difference of 2-3 players may change the final results. Now, they won't drop Pujara any time soon. He has his limitations, but he is not the weakest link to focus in any venue.

Pakistan has never won in Aus and SA. They won their first series in WI recently.

Apart from that, they have won in other venues.
 
I think toss is very important. A quality team like India will take advantage of winning the toss like they did in third test vs SAF.
 
Fair chance this time around, weather and covid permitting. It's certainly a weaker South African team compared to four years ago, however, India's batting has declined appreciably as well to offset some of that difference.

Series could pan out either way, but India's bowling should just about edge it for them.
 
Probably their best chance ever coming up this season, but I have a nagging feeling that they might just miss out again…

Forget all the nonsense around DRS and umpiring - there is a much bigger verdict which the next four hours is going to deliver.

It is today that we will learn once and for all whether this is an Indian team which will be remembered for a long time for its Test exploits, or whether this is just another team with lots of home victories and away defeats.

They have won two series in Australia, which is excellent. But they have failed to win a series in England, New Zealand or South Africa, and they were thumped in the World Test Championship Final.

In 1992 the South Africans were newly back to Test cricket after 22 years of exile. They had departed as the world's best team, but for 15 years the West Indies had been the undisputed world Test champions. Or rather, South Africa disputed it. They believed that they had been the world's strongest team throughout that period.

So South Africa in April 1992 travelled to Barbados for a one-off Test to determine which was the world's strongest team.

At the close of play on Day 4, the South Africans were sitting pretty at 122-2, chasing 201 to win.

Curtly Ambrose then took 6-34 and Courtney Walsh took 4-31, as the West Indies took the last 8 wickets for 26 runs to retain their crown.

Today is the last chance for this ageing Indian team to prove its quality and its legacy.

They have won 2 away series against weak Australian teams, but have failed to win in any other major country.

Today they can show that they rank alongside not the great West Indies of Richards, Marshall, Greenidge, Holding and Llloyd, but the weaker one of Jimmy Adams, Keith Arthurton, David Williams, Kenny Benjamin and Phil Simmons.

So ignore the nonsense about umpiring.

We are about to discover whether this is an Indian team which will leave a legacy, or just another soft Asian team.

Probably it was a mistake to bat first in all three matches after winning the tosses! I was hoping South Africa to win a toss (in the last match at least) and see what they do! Sri Lanka beat South Africa in a series where they batted last! What I observed was Indian bowlers tried too hard in the last innings to pick wickets in order to defend small totals... But whenever they bowled normally without trying hard, they succeeded.

India won matches overseas lately due to freakish batting performances (like Shami, Bumrah, Thakur scoring runs when not expected) Once this didn't happen (SA bowlers were smart to identify this and made sure it didn't happen) the issues in the middle order got exposed and this is the main reason for the loss! Also we missed Rohit, though he would faced problems with the lateral movement, but he is improved now and would have done much better than Agarwal (Actually Agarwal is better batting at No.3 or 5)
 
They should have won this time, Indian team at their peak against a very average re-building SA side. All markers would have had them as favorites. Better captain than Virat would have wont it for India.

They had a good chance last 2 times aswell but this one was even better.

Problem was team selection.Playing two absolute duds at 3 and 4 cost us.

Things may have been better if Jadeja was at 7 and not Ashwin.

We were never going to win with 4 batsmen.

The only time we scored 300 plus, we won comfortably.

Unfair to blame Kohli for that. He went for experience as most teams would have. Never easy to blood youngsters in foreign conditions. If I'm not mistaken Pujara contributed massively in the series win in Australia. Scored a match saving 50 and scored another in the decider which helped India win the series. He also played a gutsy knock in that infamous Jo'burg test in 2018, registered a crucial 50. I'm not sure about Rahene, I didn't follow the series in Australia that well. As for Jadeja? I don't think a no. 7 would have made that much of an impact. Both teams have unbelievable attacks (for these conditions) to allow the lower order to influence games. Just my opinion
 
The goat Ashwin who according to some is better then Imran managed 3 wickets in 3 tests 2 of them being no 10 and 11.
 
How many series has India won in New Zealand, and when was the last series they won there?
 
So this recent Indian team have only really have big achievement in Australia, and perhaps England if they do not lose the remaining test match of their away series. Pakistan on other hand need to win atleast two of their away series in Australia, New Zeand, South Africa, and England to improve as test nation.
 
The kind of conditions SA have , if they can get 4 - 5 decent batsmen , will beat India on most occsssions
