What's new

The fly KAMI in thread....

But he's had some success in Australia, I'm not sure Sarfraz will cope with the bounce with his technique. He was struggling even yesterday in the opening overs. There are no guarantees that Sarfraz' style will work on more bowler friendly pitches. Same goes for Hafeez for that matter.

You mean the Sydney test??

Sarfaraz will probably be the best batsman for us in the WC as an opener. Way better than Kami in all of his 10 years already.

A bit surprised this thread hasn't been bumped by our beloved Hawkeye yet !!!

Is aggressive and explosive Kami the answer to our opening woes ? :yk

Bring back Kamran Akmal in Tests

Not a big fan but on current form Kamran as a specialist middle order batsman in place of Shafiq will not be a bad idea.

I don't want him anywhere near limited overs teams but in tests, age really does not matter if a batsman is consistently scoring runs. Shafiq is not a youngster either.

Pakistan is missing a middle order batsman like Younis and Misbah who can score 100s which win test matches. Bringing him back for a short term is not a bad solution. Hopefully, one of younger batsmen will eventually start performing and Kamran can be phased out.

@Mods

We should consider hosting a new competition WTOTM (Worst Thread of The Month) and this thread wins by a country mile. OP must be honored to be one of the few whom have ever been considered for such an award.

As for a response to the topic of the thread

Do you seriously think Asad is a better batsman than Kamran?

I’m not sure who the better batsman is but as I said earlier today, we need to keep Azhar, Sarfraz and Shafiq in the test team so if and when we lose in SA, we can make them scrapegoat rather than have the newer players take the hit. You’re barking at the wrong tree if you think I support any of the senior “batsmen” in the team.

As for Kami, I will never support the notion of bringing him back. There are many players who have been toiling away in domestic cricket yet never getting a chance. I’d much rather have them get a chance than let a TTF get another chance.

Not in place of Shafiq but Kamran should at least be in contention to keep Sarfraz on his toes. Current stance of Mickey on Kamran and lack of other options mean that Sarfraz basically has a free run in the side despite not scoring a run.

There is strange hatred against Kamran on this forum for no reason. I mean he is not even amongst the fixing trio... If he is performing at domestic level then he deserves a chance, otherwise find a good alternative.

If Kamran is labelled as TTF then I'm sorry to say but the likes of Azhar Ali, Shafiq, Sarfraz etc... Haven't done what you'd expect of senior players even after so many years in international cricket.

It's like some people have a memory of a goldfish...

Akmal is more unfit and a proven match loser.... as in he will more often than not lose matches for you single handedly. He can never score enough runs for the mistakes he makes..

His peak was over 10 years ago!

In FC cricket he's averaged over 55 last 4-5 years whereas he was nowhere near that level 10 years ago in List A and t20s he's also had improved performance in domestic cricket.

He can score zillions at FC, .... he's still a mental midget at international level.

Players with some balls need to be drafted in and given time... like fakhar. People who can walk onto the big stage and hold their own..

If this is criteria why not bring back shan masood, khurram manzoor, iftikhar ahmed and fawad alam back in the team right?

I said this 2 years ago and it fell on deaf ears, but it's too late now. Kami has moved on from this phase of his life.

Rizwan has been slaying it recently in domestics, averages 40+ in FC and has the energy and exuberance of youth to take catches win matches.

None of this lethargic, yelling at youngsters killing ego nonsense.

LOL, not even Bangladesh would have recalled Kamran Akmal, if he were one of them.

Stats in test matches for Sarfraz : 8 matches 319 runs 68 (H.S) 22.78 Average

The situation is dire that we are actually considering Kamran... lolll

Unless he improved his pathetic keeping skills, it would be suicidal. You need to be good at your primary job first to succeed in Tests.

After his performances in last 2 PSLs he should definitely be in the t20 team as a batsmen. All players had the same opportunity to succeed and he has done better than all of them. For years we have been calling for players to be selected on merit. If we aren't going to select the best player of the PSL for past 2 years for T20 team then what is the point of crying about merit based selection?

The PSL isn't there to select everyone that performs. If that was the case, then people shouldn't have a problem with Rahat being selected yet people spoke up against his selection though he performed in the PSL. The PSL is a platform for newer players to showcase themselves and announce that they are ready to play at the next level as did Talat and Asif this season.

Kami is a repeat offender who has been repeatedly picked in the past for the national team due to his domestic performances yet failed to deliver every single time.

Shame on Sarfraz that people are still talking about Kami. This shows how bad Sarfraz has been for Pakistan cricket.

On topic no. Time to move forward.

Let me clarify it for those who didn't understand:

1. I do NOT want Kamran to replace Sarfraz. Kamran can play as a specialist middle order batsman. He should never ever keep wickets.

2. Out of all 30+ batsmen in the team, Kamran is the most dynamic batsmen. He has consistently performed in the FC. Like Fawad Alam he deserves a chance in tests.

3. Kamran has gotten enough chances in shorter formats but how many games has he played in test format? Zero?

4. There is no World Cup in tests so age is irrelevant as long as he performs.

5. He's a stop gap solution for middle order until a younger batsman arrives who has the ability to score 100s.

3. Kamran has gotten enough chances in shorter formats but how many games has he played in test format? Zero?

Are you confusing Kamran for Umar? Kamran has played 53 tests which is plenty enough to judge him as a TTF.

Why is it so hard to understand the context of this thread! He hasn't played any test as a specialist batsman.

Although Kamran bats better than Sarfraz, the ship has sailed for him and it's too late now considering his age and fitness.
