They are entitled to. That spinner seemed to have given a send off to their batsman.

Bangladesh should try to take it deep instead of trying to hit every ball out of the park.

This is not Hong Kong Sixes.

Bangladesh are probably losing this now.

They have some easy games next (USA and Ireland).

India v Bangladesh is genuinely the most heated rivalry at this level. These guys seem like they just hate each other

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka is more heated.

India vs Bangladesh is only heated at U-19 level. There is not much heat at senior level.

India U19
251/7
(50)

Bangladesh U19
52/4
(17)

India in the driving seat at the moment but need to be cautious of a comeback from the Asian champions.

From little i have seen this India U19 unit is relatively weak. No high pace bowler. They may lose this match as well.

189 runs are needed from 184 balls. 6 wickets in hand.

BD need to take it deep. If these two can stay on for 10-15 overs, they can be back in the game.

Good recovery for BD after a mini-collapse.

BD - 91/4 (28 overs).

161 are needed from 22 overs. They need to accelerate a bit now.

England Men's U19 beat Scotland Men's U19 by 7 wickets

England got their Under 19s World Cup campaign off to a winning start as they beat Scotland in their opening group game in South Africa on Saturday.

England won the toss and chose to bowl first, restricting Scotland to 174 runs. There was plenty of turn on offer in Potchefstroom as seven wickets fell to England's young spinners. There were three wickets apiece for Farhan Ahmed and Luc Benkenstein, and one for Jaydyn Denly. Ahmed finishing with the best figures of 3-22.

In reply England's openers got off to a fantastic start thanks to a half-century from captain Ben McKinney and 40 from Denly, as they put on 106 for the opening partnership. With such a strong platform to build off, Noah Thain contributed 22 runs to take England past 150, before being dismissed. McKinney's eye-catching innings ended on 88 from just 68 balls, as he struck out attempting to reach his century before the close. So it was up to Benkenstein and Hamza Sheikh to see England across the line in the 27th over.

After the game player-of-the-match McKinney gave his thoughts on the win: "It was tough batting early on, but I found my range pretty well. Today we gave ourselves a bit more time as openers and it paid off. The pitch had a little bit of hold for the spin and it stopped a bit off a length for the seamers, but overall I thought it was a good wicket. "I think Jaydn and I complement each other, with him being a smaller left hander it helps with the inconsistency of length. I would have taken this start every day of the week for our first game of the world cup and now I hope it can continue.

"I thought 174 wasn't an easy total to chase if we didn't go about it the right way. I thought it was a decent enough total if it was going to spin a bit more. Young Farhan Ahmed is so ruthless with his lengths and lines and we took seven wickets with spin today, so we wanted to get spin on as early as possible, but the seamers started really well for us.
"It was great for some of our other batters to get some time in the middle, they probably would have wanted some more, but for them to come and finish the job and see what it feels like in a world cup game is a great to see."

Compared to previous U19 world cups i am yet to see a superstar from India. 2022 may not have had superstars. But there were some exciting fast bowling all rounders. And a good captain in Yash Dhull. 2024 so far nobody seems to be standing out. Sarfraz khan's brother museer khan has some potential. But barely.

104 runs are needed from 61 balls. 4 wickets in hand.

India are ahead. BD need to accelerate hard to win this.

It would be interesting to see how things pan out for India once likes of Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah, Shami etc. retire.

The new guys do not seem as sharp as players from previous generation.

These ground dimensions are bigger than it is for seniors. Not sure why they would do that.

ICC law:

19.1.3 The aim shall be to maximise the size of the playing area at each venue. With respect to the size of the boundaries, no boundary shall be longer than 90 yards (82 metres), and no boundary should be shorter than 65 yards (59 metres) from the centre of the pitch to be used.

As long as it stays within this limit, there is no issue.

Bumrah is not from their batch. So if he stays injury free he has some years left. Batting is relatively in the safe hands. Fast bowling is where India will have to make some bold calls. So far only trundlers are preferred. Spin all rounder is where India has a massive advantage. There are so many coming through.

Previous generation as in last decade.

Maphaka is good, South Africa will be very pleased to see another black cricketer like him come through.

Who are the young lads to watch out for from Pakistan's U19 team?
Muhammed Zeeshan,Ubaid shah(naseem shah) brother.Shamyl Hussain,
Arafat Minhas all rounder.

Key point is boundaries are big. For under-19 players it is very hard to accelerate with big boundaries.

Adarsh Singh is the Player of the Match for his 76: Feels great. Expected some movement early on, idea was to play every ball on its merit. When we lost two wickets early, the chat with Uday was to not try something big. Boundaries are big here so we just wanted to rotate strike, convert 1s into 2s. We've played with these guys in the Quadrangular Series in India. There was no specific plan against any bowler. My favourite shot is the cover drive, was nice to play a few.

India defeated Bangladesh by 84 runs in Bloemfontein

India overcame early stutters to manage a comprehensive win over Bangladesh.

Toss: Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field

Bangladesh decided to field first and make most of the early assistance in Bloemfontein. Maruf Mridha was on song with the new ball, and troubled the India batters with his left-arm angle. He accounted for all-rounder Arshin Kulkarni and Musheer Khan early in the innings to give the young Tigers an early advantage.

Adarsh Singh and skipper Uday Saharan then put their foot down, and ensured that India went ahead at a brisk pace. The left-right combination worked to perfection as the duo added 116 runs for the third wicket, overseeing two-thirds of the second Powerplay. Adarsh (76) eventually fell while trying to loft Rizwan Chowdhury over mid-off.

Bangladesh were able to stem the flow of runs, and this resulted in another breakthrough, in the form of the set Saharan (64). Aravelly Avanish (23 from 17) starred with a cameo to add crucial runs in the death overs. Another brisk knock from Sachin Dhas (26 from 20) helped add some crucial runs to the India total. Maruf returned to garner two more wickets, and ensured that India were restricted to 251/7.

Bangladesh openers looked compact against India's new ball pair. Even as Naman Tiwari struggled for control, Ashiqur Rahman Shibli and Jishan Alam added a brisk 38 for the first wicket. The Boys in Blue, finally, struck in the 8th over, when Alam tried to pierce a Raj Limbani delivery past the covers, but was brilliantly caught by Murugan Abhishek. Right after, India vice-captain Saumy Pandey made a sensational entry in his U19 World Cup debut, picking back-to-back wickets to rock the Bangladesh innings.

Kulkarni also joined the wicket-takers' list by trapping Ahrar Amin (5) leg before wicket. A valiant fifth-wicket stand between Ariful Islam and Mohammad Shihab James rescued Bangladesh from dire straits. The duo batted patiently to bring the Young Tigers closer to their ask.

However, Ariful fell to Musheer Khan in the 35th over to give India the advantage. The Bangladesh innings unravelled thereafter. The left-arm spin of Saumy Pandey yielded four wickets, while Musheer ended with two scalps to his name.

Naman Tiwari is sharp but wayward, they have Aradhya Shukla who is fastest in the squad but not played today

Clearly. Despite this being just an under 19 cricket. No animosity from our players whatsoever .

Will be embarrassing if they lose this after all the antics.

Got to back that aggression with a winning performance here.
I didn't watch the game but reading from this commentary thread it seems there were all kinds of antics (with no result to show) from the usual suspects (as usual) :ROFLMAO:

Go well, boys!

Match Summary India Under-19 vs Bangladesh Under-19

India Under-19 began their title defence with an emphatic victory! The defending champions are up and running in the 15th edition of the Men's Under-19 World Cup here in the Rainbow Nation. Having failed to finish in a way they would have liked, India were in search of early breakthroughs to put the pressure back on Bangladesh. Raj Limbani was tidy in his first spell but his new ball partner, Naman Tiwari struggled for rhythm and gave away too many extras. Limbani was rewarded for his tidiness and it opened the door for India. Brought on as the first change, Saumy Pandey struck twice off successive overs before Arshin Kulkarni joined in on the fun. In the middle phase, they were stalled by the gritty stand between Ariful Islam and Md. Shihab James but during that phase, they kept the runs in check. Musheer Khan helped break that partnership and Saumy Pandey and Priyanshu Moliya capitalised on that scalp as they combined well to run through the Bangladesh lower order. Saumy Pandey broke the back of the Bangladesh batting unit with a four-wicket haul while Musheer Khan accounted for two wickets each.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Under-19 gave a good account of themselves with the ball but they could never really recover after losing three wickets inside the first Powerplay. The 2020 Under-19 World Cup champions start their campaign with a defeat but there were a lot of positives to take home for Mahfuzur Rahman and his side. In pursuit of 252, Bangladesh were off to a steady start. Ashiqur Rahman Shibli copped a nasty blow but carried on and found good support from Jishan Alam. However, Jishan was the first to perish and all of a sudden, found themselves right behind the eight ball with wickets falling in quick succession. Ariful Islam and Md. Shihab James began the rebuild for Bangladesh and were happy to bide their time at the crease. As the batters grew in confidence, they began to up the scoring rate but they needed more than what they were going at during that stage in the game. One of the mainstays of their batting, Ariful was dismissed just after the drinks break which left James will all to do. He carried on and got to his fifty but the writing was on the wall by then and lost the game by 84 runs.

Some ugly celebrations from Bangladesh boys in that highlights.

Good to see most of our boys did not react similarly with such unneeded bravado.

Our Bowling attack does look like filled with dibbly dobbly (could even be worse than some of our previous teams) medium pacers. With this team, It will be an achievement for us to get past knockout stage. Hope I am proven wrong on this.

2018/2020/2022 had better bowling units for India. The spinner Soumya guy is deceptive with pace. But we have to wait and see. Other than that nobody looked distinctly impressive.

Followed the match upto a point and then saw highlights.
i feel our indian boys do not have the stand out star types guys like in prev WC's or some pure unbridled talents.
They look more like a NZ type, sum off all being greater than one outstanding part. They defo made up with intent and the required aggression which was mainly reactive to the ugly cringe worthy efforts of our eastern neighbours - who seem to make a habit of this, starting from the WC finals they won in same age group some years agao.
I don't mind sledging as long as the comments are related to an opponent's skill levels only and not relfective of their backgrounds, choices or any personal stuff. What we saw from the Bongla boys was downright abuse and was pathetic.
The opening bowler is a dude with tremendous potential, world class and will only get better from here. Hope he remembers to keep his gob shut, his actions civil and let his bowling speak for itself.
Looking on, for india making the semis seems the highest ceiling, on evidence of this and the asia cup.
We have serious fast bowling vacuum which the gadzillion guzzling BBCI cement heads in all their wisdom have failed to address so far.

I was really impressed with ubaid shah beautiful run up and action , decent enough pace and good swing.

Zeeshan was quality as well .
He can also hit the ball long. Seems like he's on track to debut for Pakistan soon

New Zealand U19 is going steady against Nepal U19. after 27 overs, score is 120/3. Looking to build a solid partnership here.

Sri Lanka struck thrice in Kimberley before rain caused delay. The cut-off time for the game is 5:40 pm local time. At the moment, several patches in the outfield were still wet.

In the second game of the day in East London, New Zealand were cruising towards a comfortable win against Nepal.

New Zealand defeated Nepal by 64 runs in East London

Toss: New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first

New Zealand made the same call as Pakistan did yesterday, electing to bat first against Nepal.

The Kiwi openers looked positive on a wicket where the ball came to the bat with ease. Tom Jones and Luke Watson added 53 in the first Powerplay. Watson then fell to the spin of Subash Bhandari in the 11th over.

The Rhinos, who had lacked discipline in the initial overs, regained initiative with this wicket. An absolute beauty from leg-spinner Tilak Bhandari got rid of the set Jones, the young Black Caps were in trouble. Oliver Tewatiya's loss for a duck compounded their issues.

Skipper Oscar Jackson then joined forces with Snehith Reddy to see off a tricky period. The duo opened their arms in subsequent overs, with Jackson doing particular damage with a flurry of sixes. His fall to the medium-pace of Aakash Tripathi, followed by Gulshan Jha's double strike brought Nepal back into the game.

However, the set Snehith played a dream innings and helped New Zealand add 99 runs in the last 10 overs. He hit 11 fours and sixes during his 147*.

New Zealand were among the wickets when they got on to the field. Sharp catches from Zac Cumming and Lachlan Stackpole brought wickets for Mason Clarke and Matt Rowe. Stackpole's effort was impressive in particular, as the fielder ran in from the deep before stretching to take a wonderful one-handed catch. Arjun Kumal and Dev Khanal held fort for Nepal thereafter. Khanal's aggressive play helped Nepal move ahead at a positive pace. However, after playing a brisk cameo, the batter fell to his opposite number Jackson.

One brought two as Uttam Magar fell to Ewald Schreuder in the very next over. There were great hopes from Gulshan Jha. However, the experienced southpaw ended up throwing his wicket away to a rank long-hop from Zac Cumming.

Kumal played a brilliant lone hand, scoring a fighting 90 with 12 fours to his name. The Nepali tailenders fought till the end, and ensured that the side wasn't bowled out.

Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 39 runs (DLS Method)

Toss: Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field

Matthew Schonken called it right, and elected to bowl first against Sri Lanka. Schonken added that his side had a variety of spin and pace options to look forward to.

Kohl Eksteen backed that call with a wicket in his very first over. Anesu Kamuriwo removed the other opener in the fourth over, to leave Sri Lanka in a precarious position.

A reconstruction was in order, and the fourth-wicket pair of Ravishan de Silva and Rusanad Gamage did the same. The duo added 54 runs over the next 21.1 overs, even as the young Chevrons bowled with discipline to ensure that advantage didn't swing the other way.

Panashe Taruvinga struck in the 26th over with the wicket of Gamage. He broke through the batters defences, and grounded his middle stump to bring Zimbabwe back at the helm. Ryan Simbi then accounted for Ravishan de Silva in the 31st over to further their advantage.

Dinura Kalupahana batted with initiative to add some crucial runs in the middle overs. He got good support from Sharujan Shanmuganathan, and Sri Lanka added 80 from 72 for the sixth wicket. However, Kalpuhana's fall to Schonken unravelled the Zimbabwe innings. The Asian side were bowled out for 204.

Sri Lanka fought back at the back of their spin prowess. Vishwa Lahiru gave merely three runs in his opening spell of four overs, and brought the first breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Malsha Tharupathi backed up by producing the second wicket, and then contributed in the third dismissal by taking a sharp catch off Kalupahana. Zimbabwe were placed at 30 when inclement weather stopped play.

While lightning forced the umpires to take the players off the field, rain followed soon after and caused an extended delay.

The match resumed later, with Zimbabwe being set a revised target of 129 from 22 overs. Requiring an ask of over 10 runs an over, the Chevrons tried to hit the Sri Lanka bowlers out of the park to close in on the target. Disciplined work from Sri Lanka, however, ensured that the African side was bowled out in the 23rd over.

Australia defeated Namibia by four wickets in Kimberley

Toss: Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first

Hugh Weibgen won the toss and elected to field against Namibia. The African side found the going tough against the pace and accuracy of Charlie Anderson and Callum Vidler. The latter was the first to strike, cleaning up opener Hansie de Villiers before trapping JW Visagie leg before. The pinpoint precision of Australia ensured that Namibia went at less than run an over in their first seven overs.

It was Zacheo van Vuuren who opened arms towards the end of first Powerplay, hitting a brace of boundaries against Anderson. Tom Straker continued the good work for Australia beyond the first Powerplay, getting opener Gerhard Janse van Rensberg (2) and then the big wicket of van Vuuren (29). Janse van Rensberg fell while trying to cut a good length delivery, while van Vuuren nicked one to the slip while driving a fuller length ball.

Straker followed up with the wicket of Ryan Moffett (3) to put Australia right on top. With Mahli Beardman’s removal of Jack Brassell, Namibia had lost six, and were staring down the barrel. Despite some spirited play from captain Alexander Volschenk, who took on the spinner, Raf MacMillan, with a four and a six off consecutive balls, the Namibian effort crumbled by the 34th over.

Despite losing Sam Konstas to an ill-advised leave against Brassell early in their chase, Australia kept going for their shorts in the pursuit of a modest target. Harry Dixon batted with intent and hit the early boundaries to get the innings going. However, the southpaw played one shot too many and ended up pulling one straight to mid-on off Hanro Badenhorst in the sixth over.

Australia lost two more within the first Powerplay as Namibia fought back. Harjas Singh nicked one behind off Brassell in the seventh over, while Badenhorst had a second when Ryan Hicks played on at eight. Australia seemed to be in trouble when Corey Wasley too fell cheaply. However, skipper Hugh Weibgen and MacMillan stitched a secure 30-run stand that put Australia on the brink of a maiden win in the tournament.

As a Bangladeshi, I agree that those celebrations are not necessary.

It is too wild for a group stage game. Even a knockout game doesn't warrant that.

When they celebrate like that and lose, it doesn't look good.

Namibia did pretty well. Aussies had to work hard.

Ireland - 235/8 (50 overs).
BD - 129/3 (26.5 overs).

BD need 107 runs from 139 balls.

BD lose their 4th wicket. It is getting interesting now. Ireland have a sniff.

If BD lose this, they should get eliminated.

Top 3 teams go through I think. They will surely beat USA.

Looks like they changed the format. You are right. 3 teams are to go through.

It makes no sense though. Why would they make 3 out of 4 teams to go through?

To make sure no mishaps. But it is ridiculous to create 2 x 6 group from 4 x 4 group eliminating just 4 teams that too for an under-19 world cup

Yeah. Seems like it.

It is stupidity from ICC. They should make the format more competitive (like it was before).

These groups make some of the matches meaningless. Everyone knows who will advance to the next stage.

Ireland U19 - 235/8 (50 overs).
Bangladesh U19 - 239/4 (46.5 overs).

Bangladesh U19 won by 6 wickets.

Ireland were in the game for a while but Bangladesh won comfortably in the end.

Bangladesh beat Ireland by six wickets in Bloemfontein

Bangladesh 239/4 (46.5 overs) v Ireland 235/8 (50 overs)

Kian Hilton’s 90 laid the platform for Ireland’s solid batting display in Bloemfontein after Bangladesh chose to bowl after winning the toss, but his valiant single-handed effort was overcome by a team effort from the Tigers, where four batters crossed the 30-run mark.

Maruf Mridha, who had picked up a five-wicket haul against India, was once again in the thick of the action early with the ball, snaring Ryan Hunter early while Sheikh Paevez Jibon dismissed Gavin Roulston for five.

No.4 batter Hilton walked in with the team in a spot of bother at 45/2, and held up his end steadily. While Bangladesh struck with two big wickets in the middle overs, Hilton found able company in Scott Macbeth.

Macbeth and Hilton stitched together an 81-run stand that posed a major threat to Bangladesh. Between overs 25 and 35, the pair managed to hit seven boundaries as the partnership frustrated the fielding side.

Ireland were heading to what would have been a strong total when skipper Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby struck with the vital wicket of Macbeth to break the stand.

John McNally made a 24-ball 23 while Hilton carried on with his calculated approach as Ireland prepared for a late onslaught.

That never quite materialised, however, with Mridha and Rohanat Doullah Borson, who had taken a hat-trick in the warm-up games, taking a wicket apiece.

Ireland finished on 235/8, making 61 runs in the last 10 overs. The impressive Hilton fell just 10 runs short of what would have been an impressive century.

In response, a solid 90-run opening stand between Ashiqur Rahman Shibli and Adil Bin Siddik gave Bangladesh a strong foothold in a run-chase of 236. Ireland fought back, taking four wickets in the space of eight overs to add some jeopardy as the chase progressed.

At 130/4, Ireland seemed to be clawing their way back into the game, but any hope for a win was thwarted by a strong stand between Ahrar Amin and Mohammad Shihab James. The duo put on a century stand to ease Bangladesh to a win.
While Amin made an unbeaten 45, Shihab James, who had made a half-century against India in the previous game, struck another fifty (55*).

Player of the Match Shihab James, whose impression as a finisher has grown in two games, was pleased with his effort.
“Last match, I did well, but could not finish off the game. But today, I managed to score a fifty and remain unbeaten.”
