The India tour of England (2021)

If India can't beat Ben Stokes-less England, Virat Kohli & Co. should go home: Michael Vaughan

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels the absence of Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes can strengthen Virat Kohli-led Team India’s bid of winning their first bilateral Test series in England after 14 years. The Three Lions are without star player Stokes and speed merchant Woakes in the five-match Test series against Kohli-led Team India. On Wednesday, India officially kickstarted its second campaign of the ICC World Test Championship as Kohli and Co. locked horns with England in the series opener at Trent Bridge.

Vaughan, who is known for taking sly digs and making controversial statements about the Kohli-led side feels India should go home if they fail to outclass the current England side in the five-match series. India have arrived into the high-profile Test series against England after defeating Australia twice on their home soil. Kohli-led Team India had earlier upstaged England at home to secure their berth in the final of the inaugural Test Championship.

"I'm going to put India under a huge amount of pressure. If they can't beat this England side, with the team that they have, on the back of winning in Australia (twice), on the back of the unfortunate incidents in in terms of Ben Stokes missing out, no Chris Woakes – his record in the UK is exceptional, no Jofra Archer… if India can't beat this England side, on the back of New Zealand winning here decently, they should go home, simple as that," Vaughan told Cricbuzz in the build-up to the series opener between India and hosts England.

With Root & Co. looking vulnerable on paper in the absence of talisman Stokes, former cricketer Vaughan expects India to end its winless drought in England. India's last series win on England soil came under the leadership of Rahul Dravid in 2007. While England are missing out on the services of Stokes and Woakes, Indian opener Shubman Gill was earlier ruled out of the entire series. For the series opener against hosts England, the Indian think tank surprisingly did not name Ravichandran Ashwin in the start-studded playing XI on Wednesday.

The troll is just hedging his bets. In case England wins this series (which they should in all probability), troll will say, oh India couldn't even beat Stokes-less England.

And if we beat them, he'll say nothing special, it was a Stokes-less England after all. Heads you lose, tails I win.

Did he forget we beat England at home without our talisman Jadeja? Shami was also not there for entire series. Bumrah too I think played in only 2 tests.

How many more tests are you willing to give him in England this time? He played all 5 tests last time. Rajdeep wants him to open again whereas Ab Fan won't even mind losing a test match if KL Rahul is picked ahead of Rohit Sharma. :inti

100 in practice match and classy 57* here opening the innings. But but but...he failed in 2018 remember?

Looks like after spectacular failures (with asterics and all) in last Australian tour, this Eng tour also not started very well for you with predictions.

Was I not shouting from my rooftop for the past 1 year that give Rahul a chance to open? But no...we would try everyone Gill, Shaw, Mayank...someone even suggested Vihari :))

Once again, a case of when Rajdeep speaks...one should simply listen. Anyone who understands cricket knows that Lokesh Rahul is a class batsman and in his peak years. But we simply try to delay the inevitable.I wont be there always for guidance.

Now after the Australia tour and this Rahul saga, there is another straw you are cluching onto i.e Pant is not a T20 player bcoz aparently his strike rate is only 127. That myth will be busted soon too but hold onto it as long as you can.

The name 'Stokes' instills fear in the opposition, Aussies and Kiwis already witnessed it. Without Stokes, only star player in the current team is Jimmy Anderson. Root is boring and overrated.

Moeen Ali 'certainly' under consideration for 2nd Test, says Chris Silverwood

England batting wasn't up to the mark and Moeen's presence in the squad will allow the hosts to get the required depth.

London: England head coach Chris Silverwood has said that all-rounder Moeen Ali is "certainly" under consideration for the second Test against India which gets underway from August 12. The first Test between India and England ended in a draw after rain played spoilsport on the final day of the Test.

England batting wasn't up to the mark and Moeen's presence in the squad will allow the hosts to get the required depth.

"Moeen is certainly under consideration. He's always been part of our consideration. So that's something that Joe and I are going to chat about at Lord's," ESPNcricinfo quoted Silverwood as saying.

"We know he is a fine cricketer and we know he is showing fine form in the Hundred at the moment, though I appreciate it's a different format," he added.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in July this year had confirmed that men's all-rounder Ben Stokes will take an indefinite break from all cricket with immediate effect.

"Allrounders such Ben Stokes or Chris Woakes usually give you options all-round. Unfortunately, we've found ourselves squeezed through circumstance recently and we haven't been able to do that," said Silverwood

"Could Mo play at Lord's? All I'll say is my mind's not closed to anything. If it fits and works for the team then it's something we have to consider," he added.

Silverwood also admitted that batsmen apart from Joe Root need to start contributing more to ease off the pressure on the Three Lions skipper.

England and India will now lock horns in the second Test, beginning Thursday at the Lord's Cricket Ground.

Hameed
Root(c)
Lawrence
Buttler(wkt)
Moeen
Curran
Robinson
Wood
Anderson

Also release a statement conveying that Stuart Broad is dropped from the team.

So, they have released a statement that Stuart Broad is injured. Good for them.

More 'rukna' and sabr karna?

Or you will now humbly accept that I was right (as always) about Rahul?

:srini
He played a brilliant knock but I will still say 'ruko zara sabar karo'. I mean I am looking at his stats and they tell that he lacks consistency in this format. The point I have been raising for so long. :inti

The match needs to be stopped

But the greedy ECB will not allow for it!!

Watch how the ECB will run home if there is a covid break out in the ground staff on tours in Bangladesh and Pakistan...

So they don’t have to isolate if they were in contact with the coaches?

You live in UK right? Surprised that you are not aware of the current rules.

Its not required to self isolate anymore as long as you test negative even if you are in contact with someone having covid.

Yes but it is Indians so all the rules have to be changed now.

Here we go. Again baseless attacks and assumptions by you. BCCI cares about it players welfare the most.
I’m not accusing the BCCI of being reckless and oblivious to an out-of-control UK outbreak.

Those words apply to the UK government and a moronic sector of its population who think they are still global leaders in the vaccine rollout, when they are actually behind Ireland, Bhutan, Uruguay, Canada and Denmark and neck and neck with Outer Mongolia.

The UK’s Covid situation is like a 1500 metre runner who was dead last for two laps then took the lead too early and has now run out of steam and is getting overtaken by people he thought he had beaten.

BREAKING: Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar test positive for COVID-19.

England v India 2021: India cancel training on eve of fifth Test because of Covid case

India have cancelled Thursday's optional training session after another positive Covid-19 test result among their coaching staff.

Players have been told to stay in their hotel rooms after having fresh tests on Thursday morning, with a spokesperson for the India team telling BBC Sport "everyone is being tested regularly".

Head coach Ravi Shastri tested positive during the fourth Test at The Oval, which India won by 157 runs.

India lead the five-Test series 2-1.

Three other members of the India backroom staff - bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar and physiotherapist Nitin Patel - isolated after Shastri's positive as a "precautionary measure".

Indian media are reporting that the latest positive was in close contact with the players in the last Test.

The fifth and final Test is due to start at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday, with players then immediately leaving to play in the rescheduled Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates from 19 September.

Shastri's result was the first known positive since the series began on 4 August, but India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and training assistant Dayanand Garani tested positive pre-series.

England have been staying in different hotels to India, and the only interaction the teams have had has been on the field of play.
