The Indian top 5 makes me envious

I better check his stats in similar conditions in England across 2 tours :mv

Err..Kohli averages 72 in tests and 62 in ODIs in New Zealand.

I would imagine that's a reasonable record to have when you expect someone to score in a particular place.

Sami = Rahul
Azhar > Vijay
Asad=Kohli
Yk > Pujara
Misbah < Rahane
so it's very close but pak top 5 is better than indian top 5 regardless of future potential, and even that base is covered as we have good back ups in shape of Babar and Haris, so we aren't giving india an inch in this department, regardless of how much posters like Mamoon under rate our top 5. And not to mention we have better keeper than india as well in tests. So case closed.

Are you for real???

Asad isn't even half the player of what Kohli is. Have you been watching his dominance in Visakhapatnum?

Long way to go for ATG.

But Kohli did perform in Kolkata on a super tough track with variable bounce. For some reason, the track went crazy hard in 3rd innings with ball jumping up and down. That was an important knock.

Then Indore.

Then Rajkot.

Now Vizag.

Yup top knock this., just needs to do it more often. That Adelaide knock was a classy one too albeit it was a loss

Similar Conditions like one today in Christchurch

If Kohli keeps failing in England , he will still be an all time great.

Does Warne's horrible record in India make him any less a bowler in most people's minds ? Of course not.

Depends on how well he does in places like SA and NZ which have somewhat similar conditions.

I'm not ruling him out lol. Dunno why the Indian cohort here so sensitive and defensive about Kohli. It's pretty hilarious actually

Kohli already has centuries in NZ and SA.

Surely conditions must have eased up in the 2nd day. Obviously it's difficult for anyone to bat first day on a greentop. Not so much after around 150 overs have been bowled on it.

It's still a good wicket and with humidity in the air the ball is moving

Only Vijay and Kohli are good. Rahane and Pujara are inconsistent especially pujara. Rahul has a long way to go to cement his place in the team.

After 44 matches Vijay averages 40.04, whereas after 40 matches Pujara averages 50.27. So I wouldn't rank Vijay above Pujara.

The thing in Vijay's favor is that he averages 61.15 against Australia, whereas Pujara averages only 53.53. Vijay's average is pulled down by his inexplicable average of 16.44 against the WI.

Was the English tour not good enough evidence of the standing of both teams?

Since you asked... No!

Other than England, there are at least 5 reasonably good countries (if you include Bang) that India and Pakistan play against. Playing in England is not the beginning and the end of Test cricket.

bump

Of the top 5 mentioned in the thread 2 of them are now fighting hard to get into the playing eleven atleast

How time has changed in a short span

Pakistan and South Africa have better a better top five and overall batting lineup. England also have a better overall batting lineup so I wouldn't be too envious.

England and Pakistan top five better than India's? Wowww

The Pakistani Azhar is a classy batsman and would’ve definetly be on the Indian team if he was Indian. Also remember that they have better coaches/Physios/therapists/trainers so he would be an absolute star.

Everytime i see indian batsmens away from home this thread comes to my mind first

Have had a really good look at the Indian top 5 after a long time and after watching the whole play today, I have to say they make me feel envious.

Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane

Simply incredible top 5, and except for Vijay (who has 4-5 years too), all of them have their best years ahead of them and can play for another 10 years.

Almost perfect combo of technique, temperament, talent and style.

Other teams have great batsmen but no one has a batting unit like India. England with Cook, Root and Bairstow runs them close, but they need one or two top class batsmen to complement the trio.

Rest of the batting units are well below India's.

The fab four or five of the 2000 era have been replaced way too quickly. It is the result of a professional domestic setup and competent coaching.

Well done India.

Comparing this crop to the fab four and calling their technique perfect? And here I thought you were never wrong :)))

Vijay-Good Solid player buy very rarely plays well across a series a bit like Asad Shafiq

Rahul-Lots of potential but calling him a replacement of fab 5 already is like calling Sami Aslam the next Saeed Anwar

Pujara-Beast at home away record is poor may well be a home track bully

Kohli- Unreal player only just starting to get test match batting will definetley get close to Sachin,Dravid and Gavaskar as India best ever batsmen

Rahane- I like him but for an elite Indian batsman his spin play is below pa his record is good though

Overall its a solid looking line up but too early too say they have successfully replaced the Fab 5
That was my post at that time when thread was made and it seems I got it pretty much spot on.Asusual mamoon Bhai got over excited with his India love.I will stick to my original call Rahul has a lot of potential and can average near 50 in test cricket if he gets his head sorted but I was right it was too early to call this top 5 a replacement of fab 5

Vijay: Old and done
Rahul: Young and no temperament for long game. Even his ODI stats are mediocre
Pujara: 17 failures in a row and more on way as India isn't playing at home for sometime and even his home performances have been
bad
Kohli: ATG in making
Rahane: Done
karthik: Done

Bench
Dhawan: Good enough in Asia only (NZ series was an aberration)
Pant: Untested

I think this series has already badly exposed flat-track bullies like Vijay and Pujara. And the other flat track bully Dhawan will be badly exposed too in the coming game(s). And to think Pujara was once refereed to as the second coming of Dravid. Hilarious!

Well, you can only feel envious for so long. At least until you make a trip to England.
