The ineptness of the Indian Air Force

I got an idea for the IAF since they seem to be some budget conscious. How about buying a bunch of dji mavic drones from China and strap on a bunch of miniature bombs to them and some Huawei phones to fly them remotely to monitor the border. It's more budget friendly and still keep state of the art equipment. I am sure abhinandhan will appreciate that a lot more than his flying coffin from the 50s
 
India removes senior IAF officer after Pakistan shoot down jets

NEW DELHI: The Indian government has removed a senior air force officer reportedly after Pakistan’s successful strikes and capturing of a pilot on February 27.

According to Indian media reports, Eastern Air Command chief Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar has been appointed as the new chief of Indian Air Force's Western Air Command (WAC) on Thursday in place of Air Marshal C Harikumar.

The decision came after Pakistan’s surprise response against Indian aggression on Wednesday when two IAF fighter jets were shot down and a pilot was arrested for violating airspace.

The WAC is headquartered in New Delhi and controls the area from north of Bikaner in Rajasthan up to Siachen Glacier and controls almost 40 per cent of the air bases of the Indian Air Force.

Harikumar was posted as WAC chief in January 2017.

Yeah, yeah. Not just an F-16, It downed two Concordes at once. The family of the dead Pakistani pilot are in such awe that they haven't reacted to his death, and this was such an expected outcome for us that we aren't patting any pilot on the back on our side of the border either.

But we have supposedly planned the retirement of a senior IAF officer a day after this monumental event. The only thing that needn't go through the hassles of planned or unplanned retirements is the crapola Mig-21 Bison.

No sir. All 137 of them are here to stay, killing our own pilots and people on the ground for decades to come. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic and true.

An interesting quote by Cameron Munter former US ambassador to Pakistan from an article published by CNBC:

Munter, who said India's air strike inside Pakistan did not lead to any casualties, pointed out it was a sign of restraint on New Delhi's part. "And the restraint on the Pakistani side was not to gloat but to actually come up with Imran Khan's suggestion to turn back the pilot," he added.

I know he is no longer in any official position but still a US former ambassador saying that India hit nothing in Pakistan is a big deal.
 
In the movie Border, remenber it was wing commander Jackie Shroff who turned the war in India's favour by providing excellent air support to ground troops.

Well going by the joint statement made by IAF, Army and Navy indeed the F16 was shot down. If you see and read into what Arnab says then it is your mistake. And what happened to three captive IAF pilots?

I couldn't care about the likes of IAF and HAL anymore - they have enough blood on their hands be it in peace or war. My tax outgo should be slashed to 2/3rds if all of it goes to the three organizations mentioned above.

If an F-16 went down, what became of the pilot who was in the plane? What became of the pilot from our side who shot it down? Where is the wreckage at all? The PR-hungry politicians and media would have latched on to each of these things all faster than the IAF could spell B-I-S-O-N.

1. How many deads of Pakistanis did we bury in Kargil? Pakistan refused to acknowledge them. Thats what they do. Thats their modus operandi. Deny.

2.Read any credible Indian journalist, including left wing ones like Shekhar Gupta, Air Marshal Hari retired after 39 plus years of his service as scheduled.

3.Its tragic what you are trying to do here. Pathetic really.

The IAF has defended this country for 70yrs. Through 4 wars. Your efforts here to change the narrative for your own selfish reasons wont affect that.

Don't mind my language, but who the hell are you ask for any proof? Why does our Army has to release proof to general public? Have you ever heard of Army intelligence and secrecy? I do not care about PR hungry politicians or media. You are giving it more weight-age to this issue because you might be listening to them and no wonders this is the result. You asked a counter-question to my question about pilot of F-16, but failed to answer PAFs claim of capturing IAF 3 pilots? Ever wondered that the 2 injured could have been PAF? Anyways neither was I there and nor were you. But the fact is there were not any 3 or pilots captured as they claimed.

Well You Know Pak Army, dont you ?Now , Ever wondered those two pilots, about them, no video has surfaced on internet could be Indian pilots that is why Pakistan is not acknowledging their captivity? And India is not acknowledging them to face shame by their public ?

If those two pilots were Pakistani then PAF must have known before hand that their Jet has been downed by IAF on a device called radar. Why would then PAF immaturely claim the two pilots to be Pakistani. Ever wondered?

If PAF couldnt prevent the video of Abhinand being posted on Internet, How did it manage to stop villagers from making a video about those two pilots you are womdering about ?

We can say many things and create multiple scenarios but you guys have Zero proof and we have your crashed plane and captured a pilot.You want to claim a piece of missile as a proof of F16 ? not just F16 , a downed one. Look at your standards but they were never mighty to begin with....

Indian army are liars, always has been. Cannot believe IAF joined on them, very disappointing, heads must roll. How can a jet that wasn't allowed to participate cause the strongest military in the world didn't give them a permission to could be shot down? In this day and age, there are no evidence ? no photos, no cameras ? When Mi-17V went down, there were 30 different videos from Kashmiris, when Mig-21 went down, there were different videos and pics. You are telling me a plane that wasn't allowed to participate, went in for an attack, shot down, supposedly the pilot was killed and yet no evidence of crash or anything ? 0 at all ? Clearly PAF lied about shooting down the 2nd aircraft but that doesn't justify our lie either.

"Currently" is the key word. The two claims are not mutually exclusive. The other pilot might be dead.

Playing with words now ? haha its not that hard to say 1 in custody and 1 dead and handing over both (they already handed over the live captive, unless you are telling me they are keeping the dead pilot for bragaining) if DGISPR was indeed being consistent.
On the other hand noone has been reported killed in action (yet) in India apart from the soldiers in the helicopter that crashed. You really cant have secret funerals without media being all over it.

again F16 we just just have the indian narrative. same as DGISPR has a narrative of shooting down 2 jets with no real evidence. Shitload of propaganda news and doctored photos flying around in both sides.

The only facts established is 1 Mig taken down and the Indian Wing Cmdr handed back

That's probably what happened. A secret funeral. If an IAF pilot died while in Pakistan, the bhakts would start starvation diets to pressure their PM to start bombing innocent women and children. It would also destroy the last shreds of respect that the IAF command. The armed forces don't want a war here and the dead IAF pilot was therefore quietly taken care of.

As for your media, you should ask Abhinandan what he thinks about them. Plus, this wouldn't be that hard to hide, it's not like they're trying to clean up 350 dead bodies and silence 350 grieving families.

So DGISPR decided to not reveal about the dead body that they are handing over and instead preferred to look like liars by revising their earlier statement from 2 pilots in custody to 1 ?

They might have handed it over or your airforce might have refused to claim the body and he might have been buried in Pakistan. The only people who think the PAF are lying are ignorant, uneducated bhakts.

The IAF, Indian government and Indian media have all been exposed as liars. Only an idiot would believe a word they say. The PAF, on the other hand, has been very honest and level-headed throughout all this.

Your armed forces pretty much proved that a second IAF plane was shot and downed when they brought up the remains of a bomb, in another dumb move.

DGISPR first claimed 1 pilot captured and 1 taken to the hospital. and then no more mentions of it ever again. Clearly looks like a lie - if the conspiracy theorists are to be believed then the second body taken to the hospital is of the Pakistani pilot and the locals have been quoted describing 3 parachutes coming down after the jets had the dog-fight. 1 is the India pilot - who are the other 2 ?

It is as bad as the "300 terrorists" killed narrative that a lot of Indians believe, you are no better than them.

No, like I said, they might not have handed over the Indian terrorist. Probably put him away somewhere in Pakistan and saved your IAF from more embarrassment.

Once again, your armed forces and government is a laughing stock because of their constant lies while the things that the PAF has said all have proof behind them, except in this case. Why would you they choose to lie about an injured Indian pilot? There is definitely something more to this but anyways, I'm done debating about it.

The bottom line is that the PAF owned the IAF from all angles. I'm happy with that, even if we did not capture a second, injured Indian pilot.

My agenda is actually pretty cool. Last evening, I was chillin' with some rum and thought of just the trick:

We should replace our MiG-21 Bisons with REAL, LIVE American BISONS. We have 113 of those Nikita Khrushchev era pieces of metal, but we don't even need 113 bisons IMO - around 70 or 80 will do. The IAF and especially tardy organizations like HAL have blood on their hands with the MiG-21 and other planes, but with the BISONS, it is them that will be feasting on the carcasses of inferior beings all day long.

As for surgical strike, what surgical strike? Just assemble the Bisons with some pilot-shepherds on the border. When the time comes, scream "CHARGE!!!" and make an Armageddon of the landscape. Pakistan won't know what's hit them.

As for the MiGs, load them into a truck, drive down to the coast and dump them there. I bet ocean fishes love the taste of 1950s Soviet metal.

Don't worry, Trump will give us the Bisons.

These were the Suryakirans - an aerobatic team. They crashed a few days prior to the Aero India 2019.

If I were Pakistan, I can budget for 10-20 less opponent planes every year without doing anything else.

In a statement issued today, the Indian Defence Ministry said that the officer has retired.

“Air Marshal Chandrashekharan Hari Kumar PVSM AVSM VM VSM ADC, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command Indian Air Force retired on 28 February 2019 after an illustrious career spanning over 39 yrs," the statement reads.

a mig-21 fighter jet of indian air force (iaf) crashed near shobhasar ki dhani, located 12 km from bikaner city on friday. The mig-21 jet had taken off from nal near bikaner for a routine mission before it crashed. The pilot of the aircraft ejected safely, an iaf spokesperson told pti.

Reports so far suggest that the mig-21 jet crashed due to a bird hit. A court of enquiry will be formed to ascertain further details of the incident, the iaf spokesperson said.

A few days back, the iaf lost one of its mi-17 chopper near garend kalan village in budgam district of jammu and kashmir. The crash resulted in the deaths of six iaf personnel and a civilian.

Of late, iaf's mig-21 jets have been in the limelight amidst heightened tensions with pakistan. A few days back, iaf wing commander abhinandan varthaman's mig 21 had also crashed after a dogfight with an f-16 fighter jet of pakistan air force, after which he was taken into custody by the pakistani army. Abhinandan was released to india after 70 hours of detention in pakistan.

LOL again ? Pathetic. Modi is going to promise to "restore" our Air Force, win the election, jack up defense budget and purchase more fighter jets. Pathetic, our air force standards have stooped so low. Maybe it was always trash all along and we just bought into the hype.
 
A MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Sunday, Times of India (TOI) reported quoting officials.

The pilot of the MiG-27 aircraft ejected safely, said TOI, adding that the aircraft was on a routine mission when it crashed. According to the publication, officials cited "engine problems" as the reason for the crash of the "MiG-27 UPG aircraft which got airborne from Utarlai Air Force base".

Preliminary reports indicate no loss of property or life on the ground, TOI added.

This is the second Indian jet to crash this month; earlier on March 8, the IAF lost a MiG-21 after it crashed while on routine patrol in Rajasthan because of a "bird hit after take off".

Pakistan had downed two Indian aircraft on Feb 27, at least one of which was a MiG-21 Bison. The loss had triggered Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to say the results of the dogfight would have been different if India had inducted Rafale fighter jets into its air force — a comment seen as a veiled swipe at the MiG-21.

An Indian pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, was arrested by troops and later released by the government as a gesture of peace intended to defuse soaring tensions with New Delhi.

Despite both countries moving to de-escalate the situation, their respective air forces and armies remain operationally deployed.

The SU-30 that Pak said we shot down took off from Awantipora.



So perhaps this is the IAF way of acknowledging their loss without naming specifics.


The other day a MI-27 crashed in Rajasthan and there was actual pictorial evidence, where is the evidence for this "crash"

One of the dead S/L Pandey has been confirmed as SU-30 pilot :babar

Rumor is that a M2K was also downed so wait for that "accident" to come out as well....

This is drunk and drive accident lol. 2 others were also in the vehicle. They are expected to survive.

But but they klled 300 trees and were able to locate and country the bodies from other side of border
 
Only Indian people think their air force is good. The rest of the world strongly disagree's. Truth is Indian army is a sheer embarrassment like their entire military falling from 5 ft and showing their burnt roti's to the world.
 
Politicians claim that they respect the armed forces blah blah blah yet they continue to send them out in archaic and dangerous equipment.

Assam: Sukhoi Su-30 aircraft crashes near Tezpur, pilots injured

Guwahati: Two pilots were rescued after the Sukhoi Su-30 they were flying in crashed near the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Tezpur in Assam's Sonitpur district on Thursday evening.

According to reports, locals of Tezpur woke up to a loud noise around 8.15 pm. Unaware of what was happening, they rushed to the spot only to find that a Sukhoi Su-30 fighter plane had crashed near Milanpur in Tezpur.

The two pilots, however, managed to eject moments before the crash and are said to be safe.

"Today evening, a Su-30 aircraft on a routine training mission from Tezpur crashed in the local flying area. Both pilots ejected safely from the aircraft and have been rescued. A court of inquiry will ascertain cause of the accident," said a defence PRO source.

The crash took place at Saikia Chuburi near Tezpur. The fighter aircraft took off from Salonibari Air Force Station in Sonitpur on a routine training mission from Tezpur.

It appears the reliability of Soviet/Russia planes are not great. All the crashes seem to be these, rather than any of the French planes that IAF also flies.

Generally Russians have historically been more tolerant of casualties if they do not get to the point of jeopardizing their chance of victory. The Red Army has a saying "Better is the enemy of good enough". This probably explains why they tolerate more aircraft crashes.

What is the root of these crashes? Pilots or planes? Surely you dont read news that other countries pilots flying same planes crash this frequently.

russian spare parts. in total 1000+ jets , only 60% are in the ready to fly condition.
 
I think IAF and most of our population believe in our own hubris!

the fact is, our Air force seems to be crap .... badly trained \ badly performing pilots like abhinandan are worshipped as heroes ... God save us ...

In theory Balakot and the retaliatory airstrikes had a silver lining for India - it exposed the MiG 21 for the museum piece that it is and also exposed the Russian-made R77 missiles which did not match its advertised range.

Of course whether politicians actually take decisions to rectify these issues is another thing altogether.

India has more than a million soliders active and million in reserves. So out of $44 billion more than 32 billion goes to their salaries, payments etc. Its their fault really, trim the numbers so have more money for gadgets.

No sir, thats not true. The Mig21 shot down an F16. The IAF should have faith in MiG21's.

Bhai what are you talking about MIG21 flown by "top gun" Abhinandan shot down a measly old F-16 and then evaded all those pesky Thunders flying nearby and landed at Chaklala Air Base. Then Abhinandan stepped out of his glorious jet twirling his moustache demanding some fantastic tea.

The main reason for such bloated numbers is because that is the only way they'd win in a conventional war against is overwhelming us by sheer numbers. Otherwise we have seen the capability of their tech, their equipment is the same as ours, semi-capable to mediocre to junk.

Whilst their performance has been great, you should never underestimate the enemy. I'm sure PAF is not taking any risks by putting down the enemy.

I doubt they're the complete buffoons they're made out to be. PAF should never get complacent about the enemy capabilities.

Same thing happened in Kargil when the PAF didn't even take to the skies.

In between whiles, we pulled out of any potential engagements one the PAF were 'activated' on the night of 26/11. Going back I believe the PAF one-upped us in 1965 too.

And we fly hundreds of Soviet-era craft and crash planes multiple times a year. In all, we fly 7 platforms from various countries, will be adding two more (Rafale, Tejas) at the expense of crores of taxpayer's rupees, and yet the powers that be can't stop hankering for more ad more phoren equipment while acting all step-fatherly to the homegrown industry like HAL.

I hope there is a silent review in the background of the IAF and with adequate changes made if necessary. The navy has been much more potent and successful in its indigenization efforts today and in the past.

The IAF already knew this. You've lost nearly 800 pilots to aircraft like this. Its not rocket science. Serious questions need to be asked. You can understand if the country has an economic problem and must keep older equipment running like the PAF. But india has a good big economy and resources available. So whats the problem?

probably a few reasons:

1) a bloated public sector supply chain that needs to keep people employed
2) corruption in procurement deals
3) lack of incentives for people to become pilots compared to the private sector
4) Lack of a real strategy to deal with China, pakistan and the pacific area.
5) The need to streamline the procurement process
6) poor training and complacent strategy

The PAF has many problems too but we are lucky we are facing the IAF not the isreali airforce..
