I thought it would be a good idea to create this thread where we can be kept up to date on all NAB (and other relevant bodies) pending cases and appearances thread.

This thread is to include all prominent people, irrespective of party, who have pending NAB cases, appearances or any other appearances etc scheduled with relevant updates etc.

So we have Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Aleem Khan, Parvez Elahi, Ashiana housing scheme, Shabaz Sharif etc.

It would be great if posters could update everyone on scheduled appearances, updates etc so that we can track this.

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Amir Muqam for the third time on August 2 in connection with corruption charges against him.

An investigation is being carried out against the PML-N leader for owning assets beyond his known means of income. Last month, Muqam sought more time to appear before the anti-corruption watchdog citing his engagements with the electoral campaign.

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Pakistan Mulsim League –Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif in relation to the Ashiana housing scandal, sources informed Geo News on Wednesday.

According to reports, the PML-N president has been ordered to appear before the accountability bureau on August 20 for the hearing of Ashiana housing scandal as well as the power company case.

Shehbaz has already appeared before NAB in the case while former Lahore Development Authority chairman Ahad Cheema is on judicial remand after having been arrested over the case.

Last month the accountability bureau arrested senior bureaucrat Fawad Hassan Fawad in various corruption cases, including the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

Sources also revealed that Shehbaz was summoned after revelations made by Fawad during interrogation.

The case

According to NAB officials, Fawad wrongfully awarded the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme'scontract to 'favourites', illegally ordered the shifting of nine CNG stations and also worked in a private bank from 2005 to 2006 without official permission.

Moreover, while being the provincial health secretary, Fawad acquired six mobile health units which were purchased at a higher-than-market rate, a NAB spokesperson said.

Fawad has served as former PM Nawaz Sharif's principal secretary and is considered close to the former premier. He was removed from the post of principal secretary on June 1 this year and was appointed director general of Civil Services Academy, Lahore.

The accused bureaucrat was also being probed by NAB for possession of assets beyond known sources of income.

According to NAB, the contract for the housing scheme was won by a construction company titled Chaudhry Latif and Sons.

However, NAB says then Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his aides awarded the Rs14 billion contract to Lahore Casa Developers — a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt) Limited, which is said to be owned by Railways Minister Saad Rafique.

Fawad, who was implementation secretary to the chief minister Punjab at the time, levelled charges of wrongdoings against Chaudhry Latif and Sons in order for the contract to be awarded to Casa Developers.

NAB again summons Aleem Khan

NAB again summons Aleem Khan

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has re-summoned Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Aleem Khan for Aug 8 in a case of having assets beyond known sources of income.

According to a source, the NAB issued him another notice to reappear before a combined investigation team after his reply failed to satisfy it.

“Aleem Khan had submitted a reply to NAB on July 30 regarding his assets beyond known sources of income but it rejected it,” he said.

Mr Khan was asked to explain about sources of income to justify his properties in the UK and UAE, the source said.

The NAB is also investigating the affairs of an offshore company of Aleem Khan.

It has also summoned Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi for Aug 16 in a case of having assets beyond known sources of income.

Aleem Khan appears to be a strong candidate for the chief minister’s slot in case his party manages to form the government in Punjab and he has already drawn the flak for being involved in alleged irregularities.

Meanwhile, NAB chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal has issued instructions to the regional bureaus for immediate disbursement of recovered money in corruption cases to the relevant departments or individuals.

The NAB Lahore gave away Rs3.78 million to the State Life Insurance Corporation Cooperative Housing Society. It probed the housing society corruption case in which land measuring 5,000 kanal was sold and purchased at exorbitant rates through alleged connivance of Society’s former officials and patwaris that caused a loss of Rs130m.

The NAB arrested those involved in the scam and recovered the looted money. “A sum of Rs120m has so far been returned to the Society’s current administration,” a NAB spokesman said, adding they had recovered Rs477.3m from culprits in corruption cases and disbursed to the departments concerned and those affected.

Not good news for PTI.

Aleem Khan is in the race for CM Punjab too I believe. Surely he can't be considered a serious contender for that role now.

Don't think he was ever really a contender, PTI have already announced that anyone under NAB investigation won't be given any roles in cabinet, CM'ship, etc.

Good stuff. The fact that Q-League leadership are also summoned means that these leeches will be kept away from important posts.

Great news for PTI. His decisions cost us big time in Central Punjab, atleast this way he'll be cleared or convicted and then we can put up or shut up in regards to him.

This case has been going on for years, lets see it finish one way or the other.

NAB gets hold of key documents for investigation on Ashiana and Metro projects

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has acquired crucial records of three mega projects that were supervised by former Lahore Development Authority Director General (LDA DG) Ahad Khan Cheema.

The projects included Orange Line Metro train, Lahore Metro Bus and Rawalpindi Bus project. The anti-graft body had arrested Cheema in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing scheme scam.

During the investigations, NAB had found that Cheema misused his authority in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing society scam and possessed assets beyond his known means of income.
As part of the investigations against him, NAB had written to the Mass Transit Authority to provide the records of the case so it could proceed further.

An officer of NAB confirmed to The Express Tribune that the relevant authorities had provided important files including the audit reports of the projects. The officer added that the documents included evidence of irregularities in the projects.

Serving as LDA DG, Ahad Khan Cheema played an important role in the establishment of the Metro Bus project in Lahore. The initial cost of the project was Rs30 billion. However, at the completion of the project, its cost had soared to Rs70 billion which was more than the double initial estimate.

The project was completed in 11 months; a period claimed to be unprecedented for such a mega project. The initiative was criticised for corruption as well as causing destruction to heritage, public and private buildings etc. However, the then ruling party, PML-N, had promoted the transport system as a symbol of progress and development.

The project was replicated in Rawalpindi as well. Cheema and former Chief Secretary Zahid Saed also played a role in the construction of Rawalpindi Metro Bus terminals.

The former LDA chief is in jail after serving a physical remand of 90 days with NAB. Under the NAB ordinance, an accused can be kept in custody for investigation for a maximum 90 days in a case. Cheema was reportedly the only accused to complete this term.

Cheema was arrested over corruption in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Society scam and some startling revelations were made during investigations against him and the project.

The government of Punjab had set up Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) to provide housing facilities to the public at subsidised rates. A project named Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Society was initiated in Lahore.

The project was supposed to be replicated in other cities after its success in Lahore.

Despite spending of millions of rupees and a lapse of many years, the project could not be initiated. During the investigations, NAB found that Ahad Khan Cheema had awarded the contract of the project to Casa Developers, a company that did not qualify for such a mega project in return for a bribe of 30 kanals of land.

The payment to purchase the land was made from the account of Paragon Housing Society. During the investigation of another case, NAB found that a murky deal between Ashiana-e-iqbal and Paragon Housing Society had been made over the exchange of 40 kanals of land.

The anti-graft watchdog, during investigations, also found that Cheema had accumulated assets beyond his means. He had several bank accounts in Pakistan and abroad.

In the project, another close aide of Sharif family, ex-principal secretary to prime minister Fawad Hassan Fawad, was also arrested. NAB said that they had recovered cell phones, laptops, USBs etc from Cheema and Fawad. During the forensic audit and analysis of the data, they found startling evidence on the basis of which they had decided to expand the scope of their investigations.

We seem to be forever reading about these cases, so far not a single case has ended up in court although billions have stolen. NAB useless and needs professional investigators and prosecutors.

Shahbaz Sharif's son-in-law declared 'proclaimed offender'

An accountability court in Lahore on Tuesday declared PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif's son-in-law, Imran Ali Yousaf, a proclaimed absconder on the request of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Yousaf is accused of receiving graft in excess of Rs12 million from Ikram Naveed, the former CEO of the Punjab Power Development Company (PPDC), and is the subject of a NAB probe.

He appeared before NAB investigators in April but has since missed his scheduled hearings and left the country for London.

The bureau, which last month requested the interior ministry to extradite Yousaf via Interpol, today told the accountability court that "warrant of arrest against the accused has been issued by NAB chairman".

"As per IO (investigation officer), the accused has gone underground and is not traceable."

In the light of this, the bureau asked the court to declare Yousaf a proclaimed absconder — a request that was accepted.

In its notice to Yousaf, NAB had said: “In the inquiry against Ikram Naveed it has been revealed that you are in possession of evidence which relates to the commission of the said offences. You are also required to record your statement with respect to amounts transferred by Ikram Naveed to you.”

According to a source, the then CM’s son-in-law was also accused of "getting Naveed appointed as PPDC CEO who allegedly committed massive corruption. NAB is quizzing Yousaf on the information provided about him by Ikram Naveed.”

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had already carried out a probe against Naveed and Yousaf in 2016. It declared Naveed guilty of embezzling Rs450 million.

The ACE in its investigation found that Naveed had purchased 19 properties in his and his family members’ names and also unearthed his and his family members property worth over Rs1 billion. The property has been attached and their bank accounts frozen.
