Now that we are in the final and that the final is played at the oval. Will that ground help us or is it not suited for our players? Pak did not play any games there not even warm ups matches. So what do u guys say?

..Apparently it's even more of a batting pitch. I wouldn't play Imad, merely a straight swap with Amir.

Its dead flat.

Might not be conducive to reverse swing, the ground surface might not be abrasive enough.

New strategies are needed and a hitter like faheem is a must because its most probably going to be a high scoring game.

The Indians will love it and will look to post a big score. BUT traditionally it has been okay for spinners as well. So Shadab could play a role.

Amir, Junaid, Fahim, Hasan and Rumaan combination seems a tad one dimensional. Will definitely need one spinner to partner hafeez, I would go with Shahdab.

Will be a road. Imad out Fahim in. Rumman out Amir in (unfortunate for rumman but it's just how it is)

Look at the below post by Aliasad. This is the way it should be. Unfortunately rumman will have to sit out which is a massive loss but you can only play so many bowlers.

Pakistanis very rarely ever complain about the pitch regardless of win or loss. This sort of pimpness comes from the English and Australians, why? Because they don't like to admit when they've been outplayed.

Good,

Bat first. Pakistan will defend 260 here with Hasan Ali's reverse swing

Obviously people have no idea of what they're talking about. i.e. those saying ball will reverse or Pak can bowl well etc.

FACTS:

It's an EXTREMELY high scoring ground. For bowlers, total carnage here!!! Bat fast and bat BIG, only then you have a chance of winning.

India recently couldn't defend a total of 321 here!!!

If you play the likes of Azhar Ali , Imad Wasim here, you're doomed. :babar

It's going to be hot and dry this weekend. Expect a bit of turn and definitely some reverse. Still remember Umar Gul's epic spells at this ground; first in the T20 WC against NZ and then against England in an ODI a year later. Hope our bowlers come good again, insha'Allah!

Oval is Going to be a phatta They had plenty of time SO i assume a New and fresh pitch. Win the toss bat first and make 300+

We need to play Fahim here and Amir back aswell

Indeed. It will be mostly about the batting. That's why I been saying to include faheem

It's a true pitch and it will test them. If we can get a couple early, we should be able to tie them down.

Okay let me put this a different way. You want Fahim to bowl to india on a road? (Do you remember what happened to Wahab recently he went for 100 runs; Fahim will go for 120+)

Secondly you want Pakistan to go toe for toe with India in batting? You want to play to their strength? It will be over in a flash. The way to beat India- was illustrated today.

Amir-Junaid-Hasan-Raees-Hafeez-Shahdab.. are as 'wily' as it gets. Faheem is very good but he isn't required against india, nor is Imad.

Its pitch has favored the team batting 2nd in the recent matches.
Eng beat Bang; Aus ALMOST beat Bang; Ind beat SAf; SRL beat IND.

Its been a runs-heavy ground too.

Pakistan hasn't played here so we are kind of at a disadvantage.

It will take a mammoth effort to win here.

Not sure how this works. Is the pitch going to be laid again? There already have been 5 games played on it. Has it been relaid between these games? If it is not relaid, it would behave like a 6th day pitch.

Morgan was complaining about the Cardiff pitch, which apparently was not relaid before the semis.

I would assume that for the finals, the pitch would be laid again. Anyone have any definite information?

Madplayer Alternatively one could field the following lineup:

1) Azhar Ali
2) Fakhar Zaman
3) Babar Azam
4) Mohammad Hafeez
5) Sarfraz Ahmed
6) Shoaib Malik
7) Fahim Ashraf
8) Mohammad Amir
9) Rumaan Raees
10) Hasan Ali
11) Junaid Khan

The Oval has generally been a happy hunting ground for Pak.

They have won a fair number of Test and one day matches.

There is reverse swing on offer because of the used pitches on the side but it will be limited because of the 2 new ball rule.

Let's hope it does have something for the bowlers to make it a good contest.

The last match played there was India vs South Africa where south africa were bowled out for 180 odd.

You must adopt the strategy India applied vs SA. Excellent defensive strategy up top and then wait for the opposition to unravel due to scoring rate. This ground has been the best for batting and I for once can assure you the Indians would be rather relieved they are playing Bangla at Edgbaston which is the lesser of the 2 roads

Anyways hoping India can beat Bangladesh today and meet you guys in the final!!

Its a flat wicket so a matter of a batting shootout bewteeen India and Pakistan.

I would say India definitely has the edge then.

Will be an absolute belter.

This might help PAK's batsmen but it will also strengthen India/Bangladesh.

Should bowl first and try to restrict them to low score no more than 260 to have a fair chance.Rumman should make way for amir and fahim should come in for mediocre imad.

The pitch at Oval

It is evident that our team performs much better on slower pitches where the batting advantage of other teams are diminished. How has the pitch at Oval been?

Do we a possibility of a gripping seaming pitch where our bowling can put pressure on the Indian batting giant ?

A fresh pitch will be used for the final. It will be an absolute belter of a batting wicket.Just like the Edgebaston wicket for semi final.

The last time a fresh pitch was used ,Srilanka gunned down 320 target with ease against India.

So 330-350 will be the par for final whoever bats first.

We would find it easier to restrict strong indian batting lineup with reverse swing, something our skiddy bowlers are well equipped to exploit

no you wont see reverse swing. its going to be a fresh wicket. pretty similar to what we saw in previous ind vs pak game.

Indians practice against bowlers who bowl at 145 to 150k that too against yorker specialist like Bumrah.

If it reaches 28C the oval pitch will dry up quickly mid way through the afternoon. An excellent batting pitch but if you have the skillful bowlers, defending a score is possible. Reverse is possible but only for Pak bowlers, who know how to extract but on this pitch probably towards the last 10-15 overs.

India will look to chase, if Pakistan can get 280 on the board they will have a chance. The pressure of chasing in a final against accruate skillful bowlers is very much different than chasing against Bangaldesh.

I think Pak will bowl first if they win the toss

@MHSS your thoughts on what to do if Pak win the toss and what you think they will do?

India's only weakness would be left arm seamers. They don't have anyone to practice against . Only practice they had was against Wahab and Fiz :)

I hope to see Brother shaz619 at the Oval cheering for the boys!

His presence will be uplifting for the entire team.

Bating paradise, even Younis Khan scored runs here after failing in previous 3 tests last year.

Giving width will be easy 4. Even if you touch ball will go to boundary You just have to get the gap.

interesting

india definitely has a very big advantage here then

we have already seen india thrashing pak bowling on the flat track

If pak wins toss its a no brainer to bowl first and restrict Ind to 300 or under. Else Ind(kohli) is capable of chasing anything pak put on board.

Pitch will be flat. Paks dream run ends here. Pretty similar to India's dream run in 2003 world cup.

It'll be a flat pitch with good carry and bounce.

Pakistan have historically done well at The Oval and have got the ball to reverse as the surface tends to be quite dry.

However if its a batting shootout where we need 300+ scores I fear we'll fall short due to our lack of firepower and high dot ball consumption.

I'm expecting a hopeful win by Pak but the pitch is gonna be FLAT which is what India love. Then again you have to look at certain players in both teams and think to yourself if they're gonna score heavy again, you can't score high in every game now can you?

I'd say we should opt for Fahim mainly for his hitting but I do take his bowling into consideration in the sense that he'll be getting hit a lot so we should focus on the trio Amir, Junaid and Hasan. The XI that we choose must be absolutely correct and spot on, we're going to have to make sure our tail isn't long just because we want to purely decimate the Indian batting lineup, we have to have a balance of the two. The fielding needs to be sharp and save boundaries on a regular basis; we're going to have to throw ourselves around the field a lot. Attacking fielding placements need to be used and we cannot afford to be defensive here, the big Indian Punjabi players such as Dhawan, Kohli and Yuvraj will feast on a meek mindset and power India to a huge total.

All I can really say is that Pakistan have been in raging red hot form after that humiliating loss to India in the group match, I've always maintained that Sarfraz is one of those captains in international cricket who is always good enough to make it to a semi-final or the finals in any tournament and can potentially win a trophy. So we're going to have to maintain this mindset and look to annihilate the opposition one last time, a victory here would mean a new dawn for Pakistan in LOI's.

Look at the below post by Aliasad. This is the way it should be. Unfortunately rumman will have to sit out which is a massive loss but you can only play so many bowlers.

Rumman is ten times the bowler Fahim is. Imad should be dropped but for Amir.

Either way both teams will want to bowl first to see where they stand, this time around our bowling attack is more potent and fielding confidence is good enough to restrict India from making a huge score, our batting should be able to see off India if it's flat as people say.

Rumman is ten times the bowler Fahim is. Imad should be dropped but for Amir.

100% agree with this, Rumman should keep his place and bring in Amir for Imad. Hopefully they don't replace Shadab instead, he is a wicket taker, where as Imad will try and restrict...but he won't be able to on this wicket!

Batting needs to be strengthened by replacing Imad with Faheem. If Amir fit he should take place of Ruman

The pitch might turn second innings given the predicted hot conditions.

Batting first may not be such a bad idea.

..Apparently it's even more of a batting pitch. I wouldn't play Imad, merely a straight swap with Amir.

So you acknowledge it's a batting paradise but you would drop an all rounder for a bowler?

Shadab would get a beating on a batting paradise against India....

Faheem IN FOR Shadab
Amir IN FOR Raees

Juice Km the pitch India will rip through fragile Pakistan batting line up. It will be a commercial disaster. I think it will be a fresh pitch where not teams can enjoy batting. It is hard to get even innocuous batsmen out like India found against SL

Pakistan only chance of winning was if our bowlers could restricts Indias batting, the flat Oval wicket will negate our bowling making task of victory very slim.

Batting, batting, batting.

1. Azhar Ali
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Babar Azam
4. Mohammad Hafeez
5. Shoaib Malik
6. Sarfraz Ahmed
7. Faheem Ashraf
8. Imad Wasim

9. Mohammad Amir
10. Hasan Ali
11. Junaid Khan

You have 8 batsmen and everyone up to number 10 can bat a bit.

the only thing good or bad for Pakistani team are them self. What I have seen about Oval wicket I think Rumman will be replaced by Amir and Imad should be replaced by Fahim that will provide a little depth in our batting.
