In a country where unity and harmony are essential, a disturbing trend is emerging. Anti-Punjabi sentiment is on the rise, spreading hatred and fueling division. This growing resentment has led to alarming incidents, leaving many feeling vulnerable and marginalized.

The numbers are stark: a 300% increase in online hate speech in just one year. But behind these statistics are real people, facing real discrimination and violence. Like the Punjabi business owner whose store was vandalized in Karachi, or the threats to the lives of Punjabis in Balochistan.

The rise of anti-Punjabi sentiment in Pakistan is fueled by feelings of frustration and marginalization, as some feel left behind by perceived economic and political dominance by Punjabis. Moreover, the sinister role of Indian agencies in fueling hate speech and disinformation through social media and other channels has further exacerbated the situation.

To address this, it's essential to bring people together through inter-provincial dialogue and representation, so everyone has a seat at the table. We need to implement economic reforms that address the real struggles and disparities faced by different regions, and promote education and cultural exchange programs that celebrate our differences and foster empathy.

Armed men kidnap 10 Punjab residents from Quetta

Unidentified armed men kidnapped 10 people hailing from Punjab from Shuban picnic point in Zarghon Ghar, Quetta, ARY News reported on Thursday, citing DG Levies.

According to details, armed men took 16 people hostage who were enjoying at Shuban picnic point in Zarghon Ghar. The DG Levies said the armed men released six hostages after checking their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).

The ten people who have been abducted include a Customs Officer and others, who are residents of Punjab province.

The search for the abductees has begun by the law enforcement agencies.

Last year, six laborers from Punjab were shot dead and two others were injured by unknown armed assailants in the Satelite area of Kech, Turbat.

According to police, some unknown armed persons barged into the house of a local constructor Naseer, 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of the border with Iran. The criminals committed the heinous crime leaving six laborers dead and two injured, police officials said.

“Six were killed on the spot while the remaining two are critically injured,” a local administration official said.

That is the reason why i usually avoid visiting quetta! never know when u will turn into a khaddi kabab 😁

Expecting some posters to try and justify why "Punjabis" deserve this.

I had a friend who was from Quetta. He seemed like a friendly guy. Didn't know Quetta had these issues.
Maybe due to religious differences. But it is a very dangerous situation if someone has to go through it.

23 travellers from Punjab killed in Balochistan’s Musakhel: official

At least 23 people from Punjab have been killed in Balochistan’s Musakhel district after armed men offloaded passengers from trucks and buses and shot at them after checking their identities, an official said.

According to Assistant Commissioner Musakhail Najeeb Kakar, armed men blocked the inter-provincial highway in the Rarasham district of Musakhel and offloaded passengers from buses.

He noted that the dead were mostly identified as belonging to Punjab.

The armed men also set fire to 10 vehicles, he said.

Police and Levies officials reached the spot and began shifting the bodies to the hospital, the AC said.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemned the incident of terrorism.

He expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of those who died in the cowardly act of terrorists.

The terrorists and their facilitators will not be able to escape an exemplary end, he said, adding that the Balochistan government will pursue the terrorists.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar strongly condemned the brutality of the terrorists.

“The terrorists showed brutality by targeting innocent passengers near Musakhail,” he was quoted as saying in a statement on X posted by PML-N.

The Musakhel attack comes months nearly four months after a similar attack targeting people from Punjab. In April, nine passengers were offloaded from a bus near Noshki and shot dead after gunmen checked their ID cards.

In October last year, unidentified gunmen fatally shot six labourers hailing from Punjab in Turbat in Balochistan’s Kech district. According to the police, the killings were targeted. All victims belonged to different areas of southern Punjab, suggesting they had been chosen for their ethnic background.

A similar incident occurred in 2015 when gunmen killed 20 construction workers and injured three others in a pre-dawn attack on a labourers’ camp near Turbat. The victims belonged to Sindh and Punjab.

'Some elements' aim to undermine Pakistan in name of nationalism: Balochistan CM

Commenting on recent terrorist attacks across Balochistan that claimed over 50 lives, including those of civilians and security personnel, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said on Sunday that 'some elements' were bent on undermining Pakistan in the name of nationalism.

"It was not a 'Baloch' individual who killed a Punjabi. The 'terrorists' targeted Pakistanis. They have no religion or nationality," CM Bugti stated while addressing a press conference at a local hotel in Lahore.

Lamenting the Musakhal massacre, he said innocent citizens from Punjab, were brutally killed by terrorists after being forcibly removed from a bus.

"These are terrorists, not disillusioned Balochs," the CM insisted adding, "The state will stand with the oppressed, and this has nothing to do with nationalism."

The province witnessed one of the deadliest attacks on August 26 wherein over 50 people, including 14 security personnel, were martyred in different terrorist attacks.

He reiterated that the state would not show any leniency to the terrorists, adding that the Balochistan government along with the security forces would take revenge on the terrorists.

Referring to the National Action Plan’s provincial apex committee meeting three days ago, the chief minister thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir for their Quetta visits during which important decisions were taken to eliminate terrorists.

“We will take the facilitators and sympathisers of the terrorists to task.”

He said the government had solid evidence that “it is a [Indian intelligence agency’s] RAW-funded war” and an organised plot was prepared to sabotage the country [via disturbing peace situation] in Balochistan.

To a question, CM Bugti said that the terrorists could not choose hard targets, therefore, they were going after “soft targets” by killing common people and labourers.

The chief minister once again ruled out dialogue with those elements who were involved in the killings of innocent people and rejecting the Constitution of Pakistan.

The politico clarified that no operation was being conducted in Balochistan, however, the government would certainly chase the terrorists and wipe them out.

Last week, CM Bugti pledged that the state would establish its writ and take all necessary steps to cope with security challenges after a surge in terrorism in the province.

Vowing to bring the situation under control via smart intelligence-based operations (IBOs), Bugti, in the same statement, revealed that the government was pursuing a smart kinetic approach against terrorists as they lacked strong capacity in Balochistan.

He also hinted at limiting 4G internet services in Balochistan following a surge in terrorist attacks and propaganda by anti-state elements against the state.
