Hi,
I have been lurking on this website and forums for years but never made an account or post anything. But made an account now only for one reason, to vent my frustration about the utility of faheem ashraf in the pakistan side.
I am not much of a cricketer myself, except the usual back yard and street cricket that most kids play. But I have watched a lot of cricket, and I can't for the life of me understand what faheem ashraf is doing in this team.
For any other member in the pakistan squad you can make a case, for and against, why they should or should not be in the squad.
But for faheem ashraf, the only argument you can make is he is an allrounder and he is the best we got. Which in my opinion is a a lame argument.
For as long as I remember seeing him play, he has never done anything of substance, maybe i missed some matches and maybe when he started his career in the side and maybe he looked good then. But in recent memory, he has done nothing that really stands out to me.
I am not a technical expert but to my eyes, he seems a less then average bowler for international standards and a less then average batsmen by international standards. And he rarely contributes anything in both roles.
I would rather prefer pure bowler or a pure batsmen to play instead of him, rather forcing an all rounder for the sake of playing an all rounder.
I have nothing personal against him, I am sure he is trying his best, and I don't know if it is a skill issue or a temperament issue, but as things stand, pakistan will sell themselves short by keeping him in the WC squad. I would rather someone like a asif ali to replace him.
On a side note, the bowling overall is lacking that bite that pakistani sides usually have. Hassan ali seems out of form or something. What do you guys think about wahab riaz as an option (although it may be too late) but I recall him really coming up with the goods in pressure situations in world cups before, spell against watson and semi-final against india in india. He has that extra pace and he can be lethal on his day. Imagine a starting line up of riaz, hasnain and amir. on their day they could be handful. I am not saying amir is amazing, but he atleast as good or better then those who are playing. granted he is not getting wickets but he seems to bowl with better control and does not get smashed often. So he is not good, but as good or better then the guys in the squad and on his day he can win games for you, which admittedly happens rarely.
Also some experts keep on talking about umer khan i have never seen him play as i don't follow the psl but maybe he is worth a punt too.
the case for leaving out faheem ashraf is a no brainer for me, but its hard to make way easily for riaz or umer khan, especially if shadab becomes fit. Its my first post and very lengthy one. So apologies for the rant. but i had a lot on my mind and no place to vent lol
