The Rugby Thread

Gota have a shout out for Japan who came within a minute of beating the Maori All Blacks.

Amazing effort considering the Maori All Blacks are probably a stronger team than say Ireland.

Lol, you Ozgold letting it rip.

We have an annoying of losing games that we are utterly dominating in terms of territory and possession. Happened in the world cup as well. It was easy to blame B. Lawrence then. But again we paid the price just like we did against Australia who made twice as many tackles as us, same story this weekend. Dominated the scrum etc yet we contrived to lose the game.

soso_killer :afridi

Italy beat Samoa
Australia continue to haunt Wales
NZ get revenge on England
France beat Fiji
Scotland beat Argentina
And an injury hit Ireland team beat SA

Good weekend of rugby

Samoa 23 Canada 13
Italy 18 Argentina 20
South Africa 31 England 28
NZ 17 Scotland 16 (lol Aman that was close)
Wales 17 Fiji 13
Aus about to play France

6 5 to Southern Hemisphere as it stands :akhtar

Was wondering when the Aussies were gonna let us down ;)
Still yet to play the English who pushed the All Blacks and the Boks pretty hard. All of a sudden this tour looks grim.

Congrats to the Boks yesterday for a gutsy display, 2nd choice All Blacks or not that was a close on, that missed penalty towards the end cost a very spirited Scottish side.

NZders are overjoyed with the phainty we gave the Ozzies the night before, the response here hasn't been as critical as it usually would have been over such a performance for the AB's.

Some teams have lost with near on full strength sides against Scotland. Am I right or what OZGOD :D

OZGOD how much did you's pay for that TMO??

One of the worst decisions I've ever come across tbh

Fantastic first half though

Sarcasm??

You were at that werent you?? Seemed to be a decent game for once actually.

didn't end up going because I 'planned' to study for exams.

Was pretty good on tv. I quite enjoyed it. We finally selected a proper star team rather than the rubbish we used to select

The Wallabies deserve the boot if they lose to England.

3 losses on tour, that's not good enough.

Should be qualifying for the RC from next season on wards.

Tbh the SH is over rated.

We're the only team that's been dominating overseas tours.

The Wannabes and SA's have just been living off our name.

I think Australia should be kicked out of the world cup tbh.

Too many minnows as is OZGOD :baelish

We missed our key players today, but we played some dreadful ruby. The worst performance I"ve seen in a while.
Hard to some up the tour as we wanted to test the fringe players, unfortunately they did not step up. The World Cup is near in similar damp conditions and players must take whatever they can from the tour and move on. Hopefully they'll be good enough next year. More questions than answers really.

Australia are just rubbish.

This must be the worst ever performance by the SC sides in a while no??

Australia lost all their games bar 1 I think.
South Africa lost to us and Wales.
NZ went unbeaten fair enough.
Argentina did pretty well actually, beating France.

Point is for once the northern hemisphere sides were actually better than their southern counterparts.

Have no idea whats happening to Australia though, normally much better than this.

Donal Cozzie, the SA's only rise for us.

Aus are just rubbish, they're leeching off our success.

I'm not a union man but from what I ready in the papers union is in a really bad shape at the moment.

the ARU has big money problems.

It probably doesn't help that it has the most limited source of players of any of the major Australian sports

Aman is that georgie pie smash t20 competition thingy televised??

Kevin O Brien got drafted in at the last moment and wondering if I could see the semi final when its on :))

Yeah it is.

No one goes to the games lol, rather sad considering they even do double headers..

I reckon a few Kiwi teams joining the Big Bash is inevitable.

and then the games would start getting crowds

All to play for on the final day of the 6N! Come on England, Swing Low Sweet Chariot!

Wales are totally hammering Italy and now have +41 point difference, ahead of +33 for Ireland and +37 for England!

I went and watched one of the SupeRugby games last night (Blue Bulls vs Western Force) as a guest of a client. Loftus is one of the most intimidating stadiums or should I say best "home" grounds out here. Can hold over 65,000 fans and close to the field. Big speakers, lots of music and dancing girls. My team won by a point with a last minute kick by the international flyhalf, but there were a few yellow yards against Western Force that spoilt it for them for their illegal tactics. Bulls rugby is known for scoring from the lineout drive 5m out from the tryline. They perfected it with international players. Western Force probably pulled it down 5 times in a row and went 2 yellow cards and a try against them. This indiscipline cost them the game as on the night they had the a lot of line breaks and score some good tries. I guess that was the easy game for the Bulls this week and they won it, but they missed out on the bonus point. Next week Bulls play Crusaders (from NZ).

Shame you didn't get any pictures JAF! Yes the Blou Bulls are pretty unbeatable at Loftus eh. You need to kick well to win there. Then again the Western Farce are pretty hopeless. The Crusaders will be a challenge. Just wait till the Waratahs come visiting :D

Shame Engerlund ended up 6 points short Robbo. That was a pretty amazing game against Les Frogs

Before the game weather was bad (storm and also some hail, but turned out fine by the time of the game, just cloudy and chilly, not windy). Didn't influence the kicking too much. Discipline was the problem i.e. Bulls flyhalf popped over 6 penalties. Western Force kicker also managed to put over a good long 55m+ kick (dead straight) to put them in a good position with a few mins to go. Anyway, Tahs won this morning with Folau having his hand in some tries. This year Bulls and Tahs could only meet at knock-out stages, but Bulls have a far way to go.

Let me add some pics. I took some during the game, but have them on facebook, not on youtube. Those were for my son to hear the sounds of the crowd and to see the try and final kicks etc.

Warm up before game.

Can't wait for the WC is September. Our pool is Australia, England, Wales, Fiji and Uruguay with the top two going through.

The Aus-Wales, Aus-Eng and Eng-Wales matches are going to be seriously exciting!

JustAnotherFan those are pretty awesome pics mate. Are you planning to go to any other matches? Bulls Crusaders next week will be a huge match. The rest of the matches (Reds, Cheetahs, Lions) I would expect your lot to take those fairly comfortably.

I'm always disappointed that only Japan has taken to rugby in Asia.

I've heard somewhere though that rugby is beginning to grow a fair bit in Sri Lanka though, Kiri SL_Fan is that true? Would like to see more Asian teams play

I'm going to a function for the Reds game (same client). Not at the ground, but a product launch and watching the rugby with the guys and having some eats and drinks i.e. male bonding.

Saturday afternoon I have to look after my kid while my wife takes a break. Otherwise some good sport with Cricket, F1, Hong Kong 7s and lotsa rugby. Am looking forward to Crusaders. DC is the dangerman. Will be good to see how the young Bok flyhalf performs against him.

Yip. Bulls score scored 2 tries in first few mins and then Crusaders fought back slowly. Dan Carter did a stupid one when he threw an intercept and a gangly lock ran a good 50 metres and scored. Israel Dagg had a bit of mare as well. Pollard (Bok flyhalf) had a good.

Crusaders move on to Durban where they will struggle against Sharks (top SA team on the log, but have played 1 more game). Bulls are playing the neighbors in Johannesburg. Tahs are having a break.

Wow. This game is going down to the wire. :ravi

I can imagine Ireland would be gutted to let this one slip...

Suck on that new zealand

100 goddamn years. 100 goddamn years finally ye've been bested!!

Congrats to Ireland.

Wanted to get it to 200 years but alas :(

Tbf, I'm glad someone actually challenged us. I was getting bored of us stomping everyone.

Thoughts on the big crowd in the States Donal Cozzie some Aussies consider rugby a smaller sport than cricket :))

Ireland could play cricket in the USA and probably sell out. Ex pat population is massive

Seriously, this is arguably the biggest day in Irish rugby. This really hung over us like a dark cloud and considering Foleys recent death, makes it all the sweeter.

Great win by the Irish. I am annoyed we lost that great winning record but if it was to be against anybody let it be the Irish.

Poor old italy are going to be slaughtered now.

Our provincial side beat the Maori All Blacks yesterday too :D

Gotta give credit to the NZ'ers online and in general, been very gracious in defeat.

We needed a loss. People were starting to think we could win with any team out there. Goes to show how important Whitelock and Retallick are to our forward pack.

Space Cat leatherface58 Donal Cozzie Irish fans really crying :)))

1) Even if Barrett didn't get it down, it was a penalty try.
2) Both passes were thrown backwards out of the hand, I didn't for one second think oh those might be forward. Both were flat at worst, but maybe that's the league fan in me who has seen plenty of flat passes fired like that

One win in an exhibition game against an off AB's side and they think they're world beaters.. the AB's have been nowhere near the best and were a man down for 20 minutes of the match, despite that they still didn't concede a try.

I was going to let it pass, but the Irish fans deserve it. Think they've been dogged by the ref when they've been handed so much ball by the AB's.
The AB's would have been eaten alive if they hadn't managed to score a single try with all the possession and territory.

Geez, this AB's side isn't even at 40%.

In horrible touch, just lack so much fluency.

Ranting aside, that was a good game. Ireland definitely will be contenders for the 6 nations.

SBW a lock for 12 once he's back.

Smith clearly struggling with form since returning.

Aman on all the comments sections I've seen the consensus has been

1) Yes the TMO had a shocker. Henshaw was targeted and removed from the match after 10 minutes through a clear shoulder charge to the head. To not get a yellow for that was shocking. The 2nd try he was asked the question "can you see clear evidence that the ball was grounded?" and he replied "yes" which is simply a lie. There was no clear evidence it was grounded, so it shouldn't have been awarded. You cannot deny that. Then in the first half Ireland were on the try line and a scrum was shut down and Ireland received a penalty and 3 points from a situation where a try was likely. I'm not an expert but from what I read the man who conceded the penelty should've been sin binned for that offence. I dont know I'm no rugby expert.

2) Everybody unanimously has said NZ played well and earned the win. We've criticised our own inability to score in a match where we had ample try scoring opportunities. Nobody has claimed we were robbed a win, we've openly admitted that we fluffed our fair share of chances.

3) General consensus is that NZ played dirty and won. It's fair, its within the rules and its a credit to NZ's win at all costs attitude but yes, many people here are not satisfied at the manner in which some NZ players carried themselves. 3 players of ours have had to receive scans for head related injuries and the NZ committed 14 penalties to our 4.

4) Respect was evident from both sets of fans to one another that I saw. No whinging or animosity.

You want to see the comments I refer to, check out the42.ie's articles. Here I'll link you two, plenty more in the last 24 hours for you to read comments on if you wish

Also the 3rd try was a shocker. Whether it was forward or not is debateable to be fair, but for the ref to not even check when he has the technology there is a bit stupid.

More excuses.

1) Barrett was always going to score - try or penalty try, so whether the ref so the ball grounded or not is irrelevant. We always were going to be awarded a try.
2) None of the passes were forward from the hands, both passes looked fine to me. Maybe it's because you don't watch any league that it was dodgy to you. Out of the hands both were backwards and at worst slightly floated forward.

Donal Cozzie owning Aman :)))

Ireland > NZ

Seriously, how is this not a yellow card. TMO bottled it

original
LMAO that was cited, it looks like a damn head clash :)))

Watch some damn league and get desensitised from that weak stuff, that was a nothing tackle.

It's clear as day the Irish player fell into it. No intention to harm in it.

The fact most Kiwi's watch league and Super Rugby is why they think that was harmless tackle that would be at worst a penalty.

I'm genuinely shocked Irish fans are complaining about it. Quite embarrassing really..

He wasn't even damn looking.

Intention to take him out of the game? Give me a break :)))

Clearly his eyes weren't on the player and he didn't see him fall.

The Irish player falling made it look worse than it was, you can see he was trying to make the tackle with his arms up too.

http://www.the42.ie/cane-fekitoa-citings-ban-3096197-Nov2016/

The All Blacks centre appeared in front of a disciplinary committee in London today, and they ruled that he should have been shown a red card rather than yellow by referee Jaco Peyper.

Hmmmmmmmmm, guess Ireland infiltrated the IRB and it couldn't possibly be that NZ played a bit dirty no :P

God I just hope the AB's actually show up next time and pump the Irish by 30 to send them back to reality.

Didn't play well and still won by 12, imagine what will happen when we actually play well..

Cane got off, and if Fekitoa was red so was Sexton's tackle on Barrett.

Was he cited??? No.....

You say you played poorly, I say you played poorly as we played well. Appreciate the opposition. I can appreciate NZ no problem, best team in the world and earned the win.
