Sor Rungvisai came from a very poor family in Sisaket Province in Thailand, and he had to move into Bangkok to escape from poverty when he was only 13 years old. When he arrived in Bangkok, he had to walk more than 60 miles by foot to apply for a job as a trash collector at a department store in order to feed himself. Life was so difficult for him that he sometimes had to eat leftovers he collected from the garbage just to survive.

The same man would defeat Roman Gonzalez, a future hall of famer who has been ranked no.1 in the pound for pound list universally for a long time. What is also remarkable is that Rungvisai fought 3 debutants prior to his win over Gonzales and when he started out his career in Boxing; after his first 5 fights he had a record of 1 win, 3 losses (2 by knock out) and 1 draw.

Now, he stands tall as the undisputed WBC super flyweight champion; let it be known, the sport of Boxing is a blessing and this man is an inspiration.

He was also appointed a police officer in the Sisaket province after he beat Gonzalez the first time round and enrolled into the faculty of political science at Chalermkarnchana university. Great to see things turn out so well for him.

Dethroning Gonzalez is an unreal feat, his win during the 1st fight was disputed but his competitiveness and dogged will power was commendable; he was not to be denied the second time round and it was inevitable in a way when you look at all he had been through, he beat life itself; Chocolatito was not going to be a problem ;)

It can be so rough in that part of the world, Manny's dad once ate their family dog when there was no food. He ran away when he did and worked up way up from the streets literally, sold donuts to fund his ambition to fight and also suffered some early defeats in his career before managing to get a breakthrough

Brilliant sporting achievement and a great story, thanks for mentioning it.

The right hook caught him flush and there was no coming back.

Nice to see Thailand having a great sporting hero. I visited some Muay Thai training camps in Thailand, these are brutal. I would say if this country had more invesment in boxing, they would produce world champions regularly.
