Doraemon? :)))

What's that show about anyway? For some reason, I can't tolerate people watching it... It's depressing.

Sumio, Jeyaan, Nobita, Shizuka, Denki-Suki!
Maano na maano, mein hu ek urta hua, Doreeeeeey-mon!

I can't justify watching that show, I just watch it. It's not that bad, though..

Welcome to the world of fine-print textbooks and premature aging..

Not "only", bro. I feel like a buddih more often than not. In a few years, there will be players in the Pakistan team who'll be younger than me

True, even I start to think now when I have a match " Players my age are already in the team (or some made their debut this early) wow! ".

^ Peak times for you 2.

96* what grades do you need to get into a good College in Pakistan?

I don't know, all I know is that I need 8 As to get into whatever A Levels school I've applied for. It varies from school to school, some schools even offer scholarships at 3/4 As.

If you're going to college (following the Pakistani system), it's much harder, you need like all As, and it's tougher if you're a girl, even one B can mess things up for you.

I've started to like mangoes too. :D But plain mangoes, not mango shakes, ice cream, or even lassi, in this case.

Cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, all other berries >> mangoes & bananas.

Ohh okay, seems fair, ohhhh yh i meant A-Level (over here we call it Collee/Sixth-Form).

What does being a girl have to with entry requirements?

^ You'll be baffled at the competition there is in girls' schools.

US/Canadian fruits are nothing in front of Pakistani fruits, thats for sure.

See, girls usually get better grades or something, so the closing percentage for their admissions is generally higher in a segregated college. Not sure about coed ones, I don't know anyone who's been through all this.

There are a lot of education systems here in Pakistan, and when you change your board, after O levels/matriculation or intermediate/A levels, you have to go through this process which equalizes grades from different systems. When that happens, O/A levels students end up losing some grades. So it's tough.

People are way too obsessed with straight As. If you get them fantastic, but a B or a C grade doesn't equate to an E or a U grade which they make it seem like. Be a little grateful.

Pakistani mangoes have no match though. I hated mangoes till I tasted the Pakistani ones. I'm in love now.

Hmm okay thanks, I see where you're coming from, it depends on the quality and standard of the college (before I thought you meant if a boy and a girl had the same grades, the place would be given to the boy). Wow that sounds complicated.

B is a respectable grade and C is mediocre, but not the end of the world.

To be honest, when I did O levels, an A and an A star really meant something, because A was 90% and above and A star was 95% and above.

B was 80% and above and that's a very good score. Nowadays I believe you get an A above 80%?

Nowadays grades depend in grade boundaries and thresholds which are decided by the exam board in accordance with the performance of students in the particular paper, ie if the paper is hard the threshold for A can go as low as 70 percent

Yes. 80% is an A. 70% is B and 60% is a C.

This makes it worse when you're talking to someone who's done matric/inter. You tell them you got a B and they're like, 60% is nothing special.

Yeah I have heard that, which means getting an A isn't a big deal anymore. No wonder A grades fly around every where these days, back then only the best got them. :jf

The percentile system. The kids with the highest percentage always get an A*, even if they have 65%.

Which is why getting an A* is a big deal, and Bs and Cs are considered bad.

Obviously. I was talking about international boards grading procedure for eg at CIE or edexcel.

Which means C is really poor now but B will be respectable in any era. It's the next best thing to an A.

Nowadays your raw marks are converted into UMS (Uniform Mark Scale). 90 ums is an A*, 80 ums is an A and so on. You get different grade boundaries for every year for example one year a rather easier paper could have 80ums be 65/75 but the same module the following year the paper could be harder and so maybe you might need just 60/75 to achieve 80ums (an A).

This is what I mean.

British strawberries >>>> any other strawberry.

Their berries are better.

There are some discrepancies, but generally Pakistani fruits are better. No comparison of bananas, mangoes, apples, faalsay (not that you can buy them anywhere else), and most of all - KINNOO.

The competition is incredible.

I remember back when my sister gave her O levels and got straights (9) As in 2006, it was a massive deal back then. When I gave mine in 2010, 9As did not mean as much, because students were getting 10, 11 and 12 As.

Now its probably worse.

B is a respectable grade and C is mediocre, but not the end of the world.

To be honest, when I did O levels, an A and an A star really meant something, because A was 90% and above and A star was 95% and above.

Something like that.

But they've adjusted their marking accordingly. Its not that they've started giving As at 80% absolutely. From what we were told, 90% previously was now adjusted to 80% now. 80% previously was 70% now, and so forth. It's not that they've reduced the criteria for an A-grade (that would be suicidal).

The actual cause of "grade-inflation" was because the technique to scoring in CIEs was cracked, allowing more students to get As than not.

For eg last year for IGCSE at CIE the grade boundary for an A* at chemistry was 150/200, which is 75%.

Not when you have some grumpy relatives who just call on results day. :asif

Yeah, that sucks. Especially when they know nothing about the system and start giving you lectures.

As I've said, they think a B in O levels is the same as a B in matric.

But the number of A grades have increased dramatically which means it's clearly easier to get them now.

In 2006-2008, 8 or 9 straight A's were phenomenal.

I hate it when distant relatives take interest in your grades and I don't like it when my Mum or Dad tell other people about my results. It's a private matter.

Big problem this in our society. Bragging about your children's results for absolutely no reason, and the converse also when distant relatives suddenly take interest in grades. Doesn't make sense to me...

Topic-less thread

Well the government are doing everything they can to reduce the number of A's, mark schemes are getting much much stricter. In fact papers from 2006-2010 are generally much easier.

My Dad never bragged but my Mum used to before not anymore. It's ridiculous.

We should get a retired army officer to train the Pakistani team.

A drill sergeant might be able to fix some problems.

It's funny how poora saal koi poochta nahi, and they all suddenly remember you on result day.

Why would I tell you such a bad joke? I was depressed at that time. So write it here because none of family member was here.

I read your reply but I can't poke about your post now,you know.

And it was very sad to hear about your wife.May Allah protect you and your family!
