19 year old went on a stabbing sprees in Russell square London last night, killing one person RIP and injuring 5 others, police statement points at mental health and terrorism as a possible motive. I think detailed information about this teenager will be released very slowly allowing the media to milk the news causing an atmosphere of fear within the public. Armed police are also out in numbers this morning all of the sudden. Stabbings do happen all the time, just hope this is not made out to be an "organised" attacked.

Strange how the Spanish family who were at the scene said they saw a chubby white man doing the stabbing. but they arrested a Somalian? :20:

FALSE FLAG?

CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS OF ATTACKER'S APPEARANCE

Zuhair Awartani described the attacker as being dark-skinned, possibly African, but Brazilian fernando said the Spanish family at the scene said he was a "chubby-faced" white man.

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT

Eyewitness Zuhair Awartani said he saw the attacker being arrested.

He said: "I arrived here at my hotel and I saw the guy getting arrested just on the block.

"There were two police cars and he was like African ... a dark-skinned man ... late 20s probably.

"We heard that there'd been stabbing going on. The streets were blocked and no-one was allowed through."

FALSE FLAG?

Yes false flag again. Everyone out to get the innocents. If not, mental health for sure.

FBI have targetted people with mental health issues previously whether for false flags or 'informants'

Even guys who did the Lee Rigby atrocity were supposedly tapped up by MI5 as informants/potentialinformants

Can you explain what you mean? Where are the excuses, and why would you think I am making any based on that sentence?

Don't all suicidal people suffer from some sort of mental issue? Not sure how this guy is any different to the others?

Don't all suicidal people suffer from some sort of mental issue? Not sure how this guy is any different to the others?

Probably, but I'm trying to find out why keyser thinks my post constitutes making excuses.

Yes false flag again. Everyone out to get the innocents. If not, mental health for sure.

False flags are the ones that are reported over the top and states go into emergency for

Not planned or attacks that could upset the national balance are normally alway purportrated by foreigners and Europeans like the killing of the Saudi niqabi or that recent killing of an imam in a playground

I reckon this one falls into the second category

Can you explain what you mean? Where are the excuses, and why would you think I am making any based on that sentence?
You're implying he had mental issues and hence these daily terrorist attacks in Europe must be a result of praying on the mentally ill.

Can't except like the London bombers some of these terrorists just genuinely hate the continent that took them in.

Man stabbed to death on train in Surrey in 'shocking' attack

Murder hunt underway after incident on service from Guildford to London Waterloo

British Transport Police said they were called to Horsley station at 1.15pm on Friday after a report that a man had been stabbed on board the 12.58pm service from Guildford to London Waterloo. The victim died at the scene.

DS Gary Richardson said: “This was a shocking and violent attack which took place on board a train in broad daylight.

“Officers from BTP are with the family and have deployed a specially trained family liaison officer to support them through this difficult time. We know that this was an incredibly frightening incident for passengers travelling on the train.”

The suspect is believed to have departed the train one stop later, at Clandon, which is a stop before Horsley station. According to the train timetable, the service left Clandon around five minutes after the pair boarded the train.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesperson said their crews were called to the station at about 1.30pm. “Despite the best efforts of everyone, a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” they said.

A BTP spokesman said a number of officers were in the Clandon area trying to identify and trace the man responsible for the attack, but no arrests had been made.

London losing the plot here!

A man has been stabbed to death in a knife attack in north London.

The victim, who is thought to be in his 20s, was stabbed near the junction of Grafton Road and Vicars Road in Kentish Town at about 20:30 BST on Monday.

Ambulance staff tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murder detectives said he had not been formally identified, but his family had been informed. Police appealed for witnesses and said no arrests had yet been made.

Formal identification and a post-mortem test have not yet taken place.

Twenty three people have now been fatally stabbed in London this year.

The killing came on the same day as Prime Minister Theresa May hosted a summit on knife crime.

She said the issue was "deep-seated" and would require a cross-society effort to tackle it, but police officers, teachers and nurses were critical of plans for them to be accountable for failing to "spot warning signs" of violent crime.

"We cannot simply arrest ourselves out of this problem," Mrs May said.

Mrs. May and Brexit - the country is going to the dogs because her govt not doing anything else

Police in England and Wales are being given greater stop and search powers to tackle rising knife crime.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid is making it easier for officers to search people without reasonable suspicion in places where serious violence may occur.

It comes after fatal stabbings rose last year to the highest point since records began.

But campaigners said the move was "disappointing and regressive" and that stop and search is not effective.

Stop and search powers have been controversial for many years, with evidence that they are frequently misused and that they target black people disproportionately.

But Mr Javid said: "The police are on the front line in the battle against serious violence and it's vital we give them the right tools to do their jobs."

The change is being trialled in seven police force areas where more than 60% of knife crime occurs: London, the West Midlands, Merseyside, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Wales and Greater Manchester.

It makes it easier to use so-called "section 60" checks, where for a limited period of time officers can search anyone in a certain area to prevent violent crime.

Under the new rules, inspectors will be able to authorise the use of section 60. Currently, more senior officers have to give approval.

There will also be a lower threshold. Police will only need to reasonably believe serious violence "may" occur, not that it "will".

Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott said evidence-based stop and search was "a very important tool for police".

But she added: "Random stop and search is not effective in bringing down levels of knife crime."

Section 60 has been used at large events such as Notting Hill Carnival last year and after violent incidents such as the stabbing of a man outside Clapham Common Underground station on Friday.

Other powers which account for the majority of searches will remain the same, and will still require officers to have reasonable suspicion of an offence.

With 285 deaths from stabbings in 2017-18, the most ever recorded in the UK, ministers have come under increasing pressure to tackle knife crime.

Prime Minister Theresa May will host a summit on serious youth violence on Monday.

Media captionYouth mentor Dijon Joseph and Ch Supt Simon Messinger discuss stop and search
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said officers in London had increased the use of section 60 over the past 18 months, following 132 deaths from stabbings in the capital during 2017-18.

She said: "Stop and search is an extremely important power for the police. It is undoubtedly a part of our increasing results suppressing levels of violence and knife crime."

But Katrina Ffrench, chief executive of StopWatch, which campaigns against excessive use of stop and search, said: "This decision is a disappointing and regressive move, which is about politics not saving lives."

Removing the need for reasonable suspicion "will not only exacerbate the racial disparity, but has the potential to further damage the relationship between the black community and the police," she said.

Garvin Snell, an anti-knife crime activist in Hounslow, west London, said that when stop and search was "used in the correct manner", there was "nothing wrong with it".

But he added: "I grew up in an era in the 1990s when you almost felt being young and black was enough to be stopped and searched and I don't want to go back to that environment."

He said some of the extra £100m the government has promised to help reduce knife crime should be used to open more youth centres.

"A lot of these incidents are happening in poorer parts of London," he said. "Why don't we do something to raise the aspirations of these young people?"

A data study for the College of Policing into a decade of London stop and searches found them to be "inconsistent" and "weak" as a deterrent.

The extra powers reverse a key change made by Mrs May in 2014 as home secretary.

She introduced a revised code of conduct after an inquiry examined thousands of police searches and found 27% may have been illegal.

When misused, stop and search was "an enormous waste of police time" and "an unacceptable affront to justice", she said.

Reflecting on the recent announcement, the prime minister said the powers were "an important tool in the fight against knife crime".

John Apter, chairman of the Police Federation, welcomed the government's renewed support for stop and search, saying it "had been lacking for far too long".

He said it was a useful and accountable tool for officers to use in tackling knife crime and there was "no credible alternative".

Partly as a result of the 2014 changes, the use of stop and search fell in England and Wales from a peak of 1.4m ten years ago to 277,378 last year.

The numbers of searches fell for every ethnic group, but ethnic and racial inequality has grown.

In 2014-15 black people were four times more likely to be searched than white people, while in 2017-18, they were 9.5 times as likely to be targeted.

A man in his 30s has been arrested after a man was left with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in Edmonton, north London this morning.

The attack is the fifth in the same part of London where four other people were knifed in random attacks over the weekend.

The Metropolitan Police have said they "retain an open mind" over whether the latest knife attack is linked to the others, but the suspect in all five fits the same description.

Sky News reporter Inzamam Rashid, at the scene, said one of the force's detectives has told him they are "highly likely linked".

The force is hunting a skinny black man who is approximately 1.9m/6ft 3in tall and wearing dark clothes, including a hoodie.

Edmonton stabbing victim 'tried to scream but couldn't'

An eyewitness was on her way to work when she saw police officers helping a 29-year-old man after he was stabbed in the back

Scotland Yard believes the man may have mental health issues and was acting alone in the attacks, which are not thought to be terror-related.

Officers were called to reports of a man stabbed in Aberdeen Road, N18, around 5am this morning and attended with the London Ambulance Service.

There they found a man, believed to be in his 30s, suffering a stab injury.

The victim is reported to have been walking with a companion when he was attacked in Fairfield Road and made his way to nearby Aberdeen Road, where he was found by police.

The other person was not hurt.

Police, who have not made any arrests, cordoned off several local streets while a black jacket, metallic blanket and medical equipment were seen at the scene in Aberdeen Road.

The victim has been taken to a hospital in east London where his condition is being treated as life-threatening.

Aberdeen Road is where a 45-year-old woman, who was left in a critical condition in hospital, was stabbed in the back in at about 7pm on Saturday as the series of attacks, which police have said are linked, began.

A male victim was stabbed four hours later in Park Avenue. He was taken to hospital but his condition was not life-threatening and he has since been discharged.

The third attack, on a 23-year-old man at Seven Sisters underground station, came in the early hours of Sunday morning. He is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

A 29-year-old man was left with life-threatening injuries after the fourth attack, in Brettenham Road, N18 around six hours later.

Mike Kalongi, 28, who lives near the scene of the stabbing, said: "It's getting a bit close... "I usually go to the gym at night, but over the last few days I decided not to.

"I'm going shopping. I usually have my headphones on but I want to stay aware and try not to be a victim. It's scary. It's really scary."

Kelvin Ojo, 36, said: "It's scary now, this is not normal. It's been peaceful for a while until all this drama started coming up. Now I'm starting thinking about moving from this area, I'm not liking it."

Tarek Elmadkhoun, 32, said: "It happened just outside my door. My wife heard some talking at 5am. She's a bit worried. I just moved here one week ago."

Urging the public to stay vigilant, Detective Superintendent Luke Marks, of the North Area Command Unit, said: "I am aware that events from the weekend have caused a huge amount of worry and concern among the community, and that this incident will cause further alarm.

"While at this stage the incident has not yet been formally linked, the location and manner of this attack will be of concern to the public.

Two men previously arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) both remain in custody and detectives have until later on Tuesday to interview them.

A man has been stabbed in the same north London area as four people who were attacked at the weekend.

The Met Police said the man, in his 30s, was in a life-threatening condition in hospital.

The attack happened at 05:00 BST on Tuesday on Fairfield Road, Edmonton. The victim was found in the same street as the first weekend stabbing.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm over the latest attack.

Police said the attacks had not been formally linked, but the description of the knifeman was similar.

The victim is said to have been walking with a friend when he was attacked.

He then made his way to Aberdeen Road, where he was found by police officers.

The friend was not injured.

Police arrested a man about 10:00 at Edmonton Green.

Employees at furniture store Dogtas saw the arrest taking place.

"A police car pulled up and four or five police officers sprinted over and arrested a man outside the window," said one employee.

"They arrested and searched him. Two more police cars turned up as they went through his wallet - they looked like they were checking it was the right guy.

"The man didn't say anything for the whole time."

Over a period of 10 hours at the weekend, a woman and three men were attacked in what police described as a spate of "cowardly and senseless" attacks.

They were all approached from behind and knifed as they walked alone in Edmonton. They were apparently selected at random, police said.

The first victim, a 45-year-old woman, remains in a critical condition after she was attacked in Aberdeen Road at 19:02 GMT on Saturday.

Four hours later, a 52-year-old man was stabbed half a mile away in Park Avenue. He has since been discharged from hospital.

The next victim, a 23-year-old man, is in a critical condition after being attacked near Seven Sisters Tube station at about 04:00 BST on Sunday.

The final stabbing happened at 09:42 in Brettenham Road where a 29-year-old man was attacked. He is receiving medical treatment, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Police have been given extra time to question two men who were previously arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Det Supt Luke Marks said: "I am aware that events from the weekend have caused a huge amount of worry and concern among the community, and that this incident will cause further alarm.

"While at this stage the incident has not yet been formally linked, the location and manner of this attack will be of concern to the public.

"Our advice continues that that public to remain vigilant, and to contact police regarding anyone acting suspiciously."

Extra officers will be on patrol, he said.

'Really scary'
Mike Kalongi, 28, who lives nearby, said: "I usually go to the gym at night, but over the last few days I decided not to.

"I'm going shopping. I usually have my headphones on but I want to stay aware and try not to be a victim.

"It's scary. It's really scary."

Connor McCoy, 21, who also lives nearby, said he presumed it was a follow-on from what happened at the weekend.

He still feels safe in the area, but said: "I just hope that the slightly more defenceless people can feel safe living in this street.

"I hope that something happens, something to deal with knife crime."

Three teenagers were found stabbed in nearby streets in north east London, police have said.

Officers were called to Lukin Crescent in Waltham Forest at 3.07pm on Monday where a 15-year-old boy had been stabbed, Scotland Yard said.

Shortly afterwards, police were called to Westminster Gardens where two 19-year-olds had also been knifed.

The victims were taken to hospital but their conditions were not yet known, a spokesman said. Four arrests have been made. Prime Minister Theresa May recently held a summit on knife crime following a spate of bloodshed across London and the rest of England since the start of 2019. Last week a man appeared in court in connection with five knife attacks that took place in Edmonton, north London.

A 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed on a London high street after a gang used two cars to block traffic.

Drivers were disrupted on Harlesden High Street at about 21:00 BST on Tuesday, when murder detectives believe the victim was wounded.

He staggered into a betting shop to appeal for help, but died in hospital at about 02:50 BST.

Seven men were arrested nearby and are being questioned by police, who are treating the man's death as murder.

The Metropolitan Police said they are being held on suspicion of offences including possession of an offensive weapon and attempted murder.

The victim's next-of-kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination is due to be held later.

Some 25 people have been stabbed to death in London so far this year.

There have been four other stab attacks in London since Tuesday afternoon.

The first happened at about 15:00 in Camomile Way, West Drayton. A man was found with multiple stab wounds but his condition is not life-threatening, police said.

Seven people have been arrested for offences including GBH, assisting an offender and possession of firearms.

Life-threatening condition
At about 18:30, officers were called to reports of two men fighting in Preston Road, Wembley.

They found a 28-year-old man with stab wounds. He has been taken to hospital and is in a life-threatening condition.

There have been no arrests, police said.

At about 22:00, two 17-year-old boys were hurt in separate stabbings in Mitcham.

Police and paramedics found the boys in Tamworth Lane and Morden Road.

Neither victim's injuries are thought to be life-threatening and no-one has been arrested.

While each and every such crime is reprehensible a quiet perusal of the relevant statistics would have clearly shown you that this is no sudden epidemic or upsurge. There were around 220 homicides by stabbing in 2016 & 2017. That works out to an average of 55 per 3 months. Your post #20 states that there have been 49 such deaths in 3 months this year. So no increase. Indeed last year there were 285 stabbing deaths which would work out to 70 in 3 months. So, in fact, there has been a fall in numbers so far this year.
However whether these changes are statistically significant year on year in the context of violent crime as a whole would require the services of a proper statistician. Any on this forum?

Knife crime is a rising issue here. It's especially bad in London where it seems like some teens don't feel safe going out at night if they're not carrying around a pocket-knife in the sketchier parts of London.

Two teenagers have been stabbed in a robbery at a Birmingham snooker club.

The 18-year-olds were involved in a dispute before the attack at Big Shot Snooker Club, in Highfield Road, Alum Rock, at 21:15 BST on Tuesday, West Midlands Police said.

They were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, officers added.

CCTV has been recovered and police are appealing for information.

Det Sgt Tom Lyons, from the force's CID, said: "We are currently working to establish the full circumstances of what happened last night.

"We believe there was a dispute and the two men were stabbed after being robbed of cash and personal belongings."

A teenage boy has been stabbed to death in an attack in Hackney, London.

The victim, who police believe was 15 years old, was found injured in Somerford Grove at about 21:00 BST on Wednesday.

He was treated at the scene but pronounced dead just under an hour later, Scotland Yard said.

A second boy, aged 16, found in nearby Shacklewell Road was also stabbed but did not sustain life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

Police said a section 60 stop-and-search order had been put in place for the whole of Hackney.

Hours later, officers were called to another, unrelated, stabbing near Camden Town Tube station.

A man suffered "life-threatening" injuries in the attack on Camden Road shortly after midnight.

So far this year, more than 40 murder investigations have been launched in the capital by the Metropolitan and British Transport police forces.

Twenty-nine of those investigations have been as a result of fatal stabbings.

Teenager stabbed to death after being 'chased by man in hoodie' in southeast London

A teenager has been stabbed to death after being chased by a man "wearing a grey or blue hoodie" before being attacked in southeast London, police have said.

Officers were called to Tiverton Street in Southwark on Sunday at around 9.30pm where they found a man, aged 18, suffering from stab wounds.

London's Air Ambulance also attended.

The victim was taken to a south London hospital where he died shortly before 11pm.

The man has not been formally identified but his next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course and a crime scene remains in place.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "The victim was seen being chased by another male wearing a grey or blue hoodie from Newington Gardens into Tiverton Street where he was attacked and shortly after found by police and London Air Ambulance.

"We need those who have information about the culprit(s) for this murder to get in touch with police immediately.

"Were you there? Did you see anything? Your information could prove vital to solving this case and I would urge you to get in touch," he said.

No arrests have been made but police say they have a number of active enquiries including reviewing CCTV footage, making house to house calls and forensic analysis at the scene.

The killing is the 28th fatal stabbing in the city so far this year.

Poet Theresa Lola, the Young People's Laureate for London, tweeted: "Another stabbing in London, sigh, this time an 18- year-old in Southwark.

"Speechless, the victim was seen being chased by another man. When will the lives of young people be valued and prioritised in a time of clear crisis."

Teenagers are being offered up to £1,000 by gang leaders in Liverpool to stab other youngsters, the BBC has learned.

Bounties are being paid by "elders" who want to avoid carrying out the attacks themselves, young people have told the BBC Beyond Today podcast.

The claims have been linked to at least one recent stabbing.

Merseyside Police said it was aware organised crime groups used violence to settle disputes.

In a statement the force did not directly address the teenagers' claims.

But it said gangs were known to exploit "young and vulnerable people to sell... drugs and even to use violence".

The teenagers, who wish to remain anonymous because they fear reprisals, said: "Young kids are getting money put on their heads."

One boy told the BBC that his best friend was the target of a £1,000 bounty.

He said a group attacked the victim, who then needed treatment in hospital. Two teenagers then split the bounty.

He said people would go to watch "straighteners" - a fight arranged to resolve a dispute - where people were "getting stabbed".

He added that senior gang members have said: "Here's five ton [£500] each - go and do it."

"And they'll go and do it because they'll think, if I do this, then I'll get more money and I'll get more respect from the elders."

Last year, Merseyside Police had one of the biggest increases in recorded knife offences with a 35% rise, according to official statistics.

The force recorded 1,231 offences involving a knife in 2018.

Alan Walsh, a youth worker who runs the city-wide campaign Real Men Don't Carry Knives, said he was "still shocked" at the bounty claims.

Other gang members in Liverpool have recently confirmed to him there have been other similar cases.

"Has it got to that stage where it's like going back to gladiators," he said. "The arena is the streets and we're putting a bounty up?"

Former probation officer James Riley, who has worked in Liverpool for 18 years and teaches children about the risks of getting involved in gangs, said the bounty issue had traditionally only ever been linked to gun crime in the city.

But there had been a recent shift towards rewards for a person who uses and attacks with a knife, he added.

One of the main reasons for the bounties is so senior gang members can avoid punishments, Mr Riley said.

"The 'elders' want to distance themselves - they want to avoid arrest.

"They don't want to get their hands dirty - they know there's this continuous stream of young people out there who they can exploit."

'Still gobsmacked'
Last week, figures showed that 22,041 knife or weapon offences were recorded in England and Wales in the past year - the highest number since 2010.

One in five of those convicted or cautioned were aged between 10 and 17, according to the Ministry of Justice.

Mr Walsh, who works in Anfield, said: "I'm still gobsmacked that they have this thing where, at that tender age, they'll put a bounty on other kids' heads.

"I hope to God it's not a trend that takes off."

A boy who killed a fellow student with a "Rambo-style" knife after his mobile phone was taken has been jailed.

Adam Muhammad, 17, stabbed 18-year-old Hazrat Umar 15 times in the "frenzied and unprovoked" ambush in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, on 25 February.

Muhammad "held a grudge" after Mr Umar "insulted and slapped him" and briefly took his phone, the court heard.

The 17-year-old admitted murder and was sentenced to life, with a minimum term of 14 years and three months.

He had initially denied the charge but changed his plea on the fourth day of his trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Muhammed was supposed to be sitting an exam but turned up late and failed to return at 14:00 GMT - about the time he was attacking Mr Umar.

Sentencing, Judge Francis Laird QC said the defendant had "sought revenge" against his classmate at South and City College Birmingham.

"I am sure that from the moment [the defendant] left college that afternoon he planned to carry out an attack on Mr Umar with the knife once they were relatively secluded," he said.

Such a tragic waste of a young life but I am a little confused with the report- If someone took his phone and slapped then it wasnt unprovoked even though it might have happened at a different time.

As someone who lives in London...the capital of this apparent 'epidemic'...its just worth noting just how overhyped this all is...

Any violence that does happen is within the subcultures and specific to certain areas...most victims aren't random but are known to each other...and even then the numbers of actual attacks are miniscule in real terms...but reading the paper one would believe we are living in Caracas...

Just what I like t osay to everyone not from London who brings it up. The attacks are not occurring at mass levels, all over the place. They are related to gang violence, and gang violence is related to poverty and lack of policing.

A boy has been cleared of murdering a 17-year-old he stabbed in the heart with a flick knife.

Manchester Grammar School pupil Yousef Makki was attacked in Hale Barns, Greater Manchester, on 2 March.

A 17-year-old, who was referred to as Boy A, was accused of killing Yousef in a row over an attempt to rob a drug dealer.

The boy denied murder, claiming he acted in self-defence, and was also found not guilty of manslaughter.

The jury reached its decision after a four-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Following the verdict, Yousef's father Ghaleb Makki exploded in anger and the judge, Mr Justice Bryan, cleared the courtroom.

Mr Makki swore and shouted: "Where's the justice for my son? Where's the justice?"

Yousef, from a single-parent Anglo-Lebanese family from Burnage, south Manchester, had won a scholarship to the prestigious £12,000-a-year school.

He was stabbed in the village, which is popular with footballers and celebrities.

A second teenager, also 17 and referred to as Boy B, was found not guilty of both perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to rob. Both boys were also cleared of conspiracy to commit robbery in the lead-up to Yousef's death.

The teenagers had previously admitted possessing a knife and Boy A pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by lying to police. Both defendants are due to be sentenced for those charges on 25 July.

The jury heard the stabbing was an "accident waiting to happen" as all three boys indulged in "idiotic fantasies" playing as middle-class gangsters.

Despite the privileged backgrounds of both defendants, they led "double lives", the court was told.

Calling each other "Bro" and "Fam" and the police "feds", the defendants and Yousef smoked cannabis and listened to rap and drill music, the trial heard.

They would post videos on social media, making threats and posing with "shanks" or knives.

Robbery gone wrong
Hours before the fatal stabbing, Boy B arranged a £45 cannabis deal and the teenagers planned to rob the drug dealer - a "soft target", the trial heard.

But the robbery went wrong and Yousef and Boy B fled, leaving Boy A to take a beating.

Boy A then later pushed Yousef who punched him in the face, the trial heard.

He told the jury Yousef pulled out a knife and he responded by also taking out a knife and his victim was accidentally stabbed.

As Yousef lay dying, the defendants hid the knives in bushes and down a drain, dialled 999 and tried to staunch Yousef's chest wound.

A passing heart surgeon performed emergency surgery in the back of an ambulance but the teenager suffered catastrophic blood loss.

The defendants told police they had found Yousef stabbed and suggested others were responsible.

A statement released by the family of Boy A said there were "no winners in this case".

"Yousef's death was a tragedy and our son will have to live with the responsibility of his role for the rest of his life.

"But the Makki family's loss and hurt are infinitely greater. Nothing we can say can make up for that or change it."

It is rather meaningless looking at year to year changes. 20-year changes have some meaning and 50-year changes have even more meaning. No doubt Britain is worse now than it was 20 years ago, and a lot worse than it was 50 years ago.

Man stabbed to death at Elephant and Castle Tube station and another victim seriously hurt

Police believe after a fight broke out between two groups of men inside the south London Underground station late on Sunday night.

A 24-year-old man has been stabbed to death at a Tube station in south London in what police said was a "shocking act of violence".

He was wounded after a fight broke out between two groups of men at Elephant and Castle underground station around 11.30pm on Sunday.

The victim was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Another man, aged 25, was also hurt and he remains in a serious condition.

An eyewitness, Keylin Tejeda, 32, said one of the victims was a regular customer at her pattie shop El Monte.

She said: "I was coming from a restaurant with my partner around 11pm - and when we were passing by we saw him lying down. I could see who he was, I saw him.

"The ambulance were operating on him on the floor."

A murder investigation is under way and Detective Chief Inspector Sam Blackburn said officers were "working tirelessly to identify and trace those responsible".

He added: "While the investigation is still at an early stage, at this time we believe there was an altercation between two groups of men inside the underground station - and it is here the victims sustained their injuries before making their way onto the street.

"We have a number of reassurance patrols in the area today so passengers can expect to see an increased police presence on their journey."

It is the 92nd violent death in the capital so far in 2019.

In a tweet, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the man's killing was a "senseless loss of a young life" - and urged witnesses to contact police or Crimestoppers.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder over the fight.

A man has been murdered in front of horrified commuters on a rush hour tube train in west London.

According to British Transport Police, the victim was attacked at Hillingdon station shortly before 4pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

According to BTP, the man's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Forensic officers are currently combing the station for evidence and the station remains closed causing some disruption to services.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson of British Transport Police said: 'This was a shocking act of violence which has seen a man tragically lose his life this afternoon.

While we are at the early stages of our investigation, we believe a group of young men were involved in an altercation on the platform before one of the men received a fatal stab wound.

'We are doing all we can to find those responsible, and I would urge any witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.

'This level of violence is not usual on the rail network, and we will be increasing our unfiromed patrols in the Hillingdon area in the coming days to help reassure the travelling public.'

According to My London, one witness said: 'We were on the train, me and my brother, coming back from Uxbridge to Ruislip. We saw people running down the train and the announcement said that the train had terminated.

'Me and my brother got off as quick as we could, we would have been closer if I didn't say let's sit here.'

Making assumptions about stats can be unwise. Society in Britain - as a whole - is actually becoming LESS violent over the years. The peak levels of recorded violence in this country was in the mid - to - late 90's. The worry with knife crime is that after showing a decline from around the year 2002/3 (264 deaths) till 2013 (195 deaths) it started rising again reachin in 2018. So you see your assumption of a medium-term rise is incorrect. Especially if you take into account that the population has risen by 6 million (10%) during that time.
What is clear however is that the proportion of stabbings as a means of homicide is on the rise while TOTAL homicides have fallen from 1050 in 2002 to 700 in 2018.

If you have stats about crime decreasing in the last 20 years, then I stand corrected.

I do not pay more attention to Britain than I do to other countries (other than India and the US), so I can't say I am well informed about Britain. However, it does seem that there has been a great increase in surveillance with cameras and that could have led to a fall in petty crime. Fear of being caught is not the best reason for crime to decrease, but is better than more crime.

The important issue is whether culture is changing? Short and medium term isn't really that important for those who care about the long term.

It's a lot deeper then that mate; austerity, cuts to our forces, broken social support system, inner city poverty, broken family's, poor educational system, lack of quality teachers and widespread unemployment. The economy and government is in disarray and these problems will be emphasised further moving forward as a consequence.

Music and sport are what liberates those who struggle in these circumstances and turn them away from crime.

I have been held at knife point and that would in theory make me more inclined to entirely pin the result of an action with the knife on the person who wields it but the UK knife crime epidemic is not so simple, understanding it may bring us one step closer to solving the problem, however raising awareness of the damage which can be caused by this act can help in some way; this is where the knife angel comes in, I was deeply moved to see it, made up by confiscated knives with messages from the loved ones of victims, as individuals to our role can't be more important in educating those closest to us especially in deprived regions which will never leave us no matter how far we travel.

Thanks for the reply bro.

Appreciate it!

You must’ve been scared while you were at knife point, weren’t you?

I believe everyone has a reason for what he or she is doing but we often forget why these ‘goons’ are behaving like this.

The roots of these kind of problems lies in the society, where we live.

Where people don’t get acceptance for who they are.

And then you have some messed up ones who get into this sh*t.

Shaz619 has summarised it but I'd take it further to say there is a deliberate effort to keep certain sections of society in tougher living environments which causes such crimes. Unlike guns you cannot regulate or ban knives, easy weapons to get hold of and can be easily used at any time.

I was very young at that time and I was so afraid I didn't report it either or tell anyone at the time, but I guess the higher power was looking out for me on that day. During that period I also use to box, my coach use to say always look at someones hands to see what they have and run for your life if it's a weapon because it doesn't matter how big or small the person holding it is.

I agree with you totally and especially on that acceptance point, as it also revolves around a narrative where all hope is lost and no support also, even in dark times everyone needs to be encouraged that they can be more then what they can comprehend and do well in the civil world; the UK may be on its knees but there is great opportunity which can be exploited with the right focus and determination

From my experience, Austerity and police cuts are single most biggest reason for the growing knife crime.

The police force simply can’t handle it and crimes such robberies that even involve weapons are closed within a couple of days. You get a crime number for your insurance and that’s that.

Desperate times

A very comprehensive response indeed.
Having lived & worked for the last 20 years in Lewisham (inner-city London), where there has been a rising trend of violence over the last 6-8 years, I would like to add the following:-

The closure of the council funded youth clubs & sports initiatives
The reduction/closure of sure start centres
Worsening of "gang culture" amongst our impoverished youths (who are frequently from the minority communities)
Finally, the polarising effects of the Brexit votes which has resulted in a significant upsurge in racist right-wing thuggery.
A reduction in police stop-and-search is also contributing. However, I have conflicting feelings about this one since so many of the police tend to be racist in applying their stop-search powers.

Yes I do have the data, but only from 1981. And since I happen to have lived for 30 years in some of the more violent parts of London, I pay attention.
The peak years for violent crime were 95-96. Following that violent crime (as well as all reported crime) dropped year-on-year till 2013/14. Then it started rising again. Why? Probably largely the effects of austerity, cuts to policing & council budgets.
Nowadays, every year when the crime stats are published, the press descends into an orgy of breast-beating doom-and-gloom, entirely ignoring that inspite of such increases, England remains one of the safest countries in the world. The homicide rate here is 1.20 per 100,000 population per annum. Compare Canada - 1.68 or US at 5.35.

One has to consider the details behind the statistics. For example, it is true that the murder rate is 5.35 for the US, but the US is very big fragmented country, with parts of it much lower and other parts (inner cities) much higher.

Given its demographics, the more appropriate comparison for England is White Americans, whose homicide rates are much lower than the national average.

I agree that the press trivializes the conversation about important issues.

Very good post and thanks for the further insight, generally speaking those youth clubs and initiatives which do exist are mostly private so you're right there and it is disappointing to hear about the gang culture; it has declined in my part but the issue surrounding knife crime exists. The right wing thuggery is not so notorious in the media due to the stereotype that such violence is only capable by minorities. I have a mixed feeling on those stop/search powers to because they are necessary but as we know are very likely to be abused as well.

A teenager has been stabbed to death near Stratford Shopping Centre.

Officers found the 15-year-old boy suffering from stab wounds on Stratford Broadway in east London shortly after 15:20 BST on Thursday.

Police believe he was either attacked on a bus, or shortly after getting off.

A second teenager, also 15, was found with stab injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. Scotland Yard said no arrests had been made.

Det Ch Insp Chris Soole said the boy was stabbed during an altercation "on or shortly after alighting from a bus which stopped very close to Stratford Shopping Centre".

He added: "The victim of this stabbing was a schoolboy with his whole life ahead of him. He had everything to live for.

"This was a senseless attack and we share the concern and alarm this murder will no doubt cause in the local community."

In a separate stabbing about five hours later, an 18-year-old man was knifed to death in south London.

Police found the man suffering from stab injuries on the Brandon Estate in Camberwell, at about 20:20 BST.

He was pronounced dead at the scene an hour later and no arrests have been made.

The Stratford victim's friends and members of the public provided first aid but he died at the scene at about 15:50, police said.

The teenager's next of kin have been informed, and the second boy who was stabbed remains in an east London hospital.

A Section 60 order has been implemented, giving officers increased stop and search powers across Newham.

Police have closed off a large part of Broadway, and the shopping centre entrance nearest Stratford Station has also been closed.

One witness said the attack happened outside a McDonalds restaurant.

"At that moment there were not many people around him so I could see him all covered in blood. He was in pain and tried getting up," they said.

"There were people around gathering. It was scary as you did not know if any of them could have had a knife too."

Steven, a Christian, thinks fencing prevents knife crime
Steven is a fencing instructor who believes the sport can help communities affected by knife crime.

His Christian faith pushed him to take action; even when people told him using fencing to prevent stabbings was too controversial.

This film is part of My Faith, My Way - a BBC World Service Series about young Brits expressing their faith in ways you won't expect.

A number of police officers were assaulted as they attempted to tackle a fight at a cinema involving people armed with machetes.

Disorder broke out as West Midlands Police attempted to clear about 100 people from the Star City complex in Birmingham.

They were responding to reports a group with machetes had arrived at the venue's cinema.

Several arrests for assaulting officers and failing to disperse were made.

The injured officers sustained only minor injuries, the force said.

One eyewitness said "a young boy was crying on the floor with his mother" as a number of people started fighting.

Rachael Allison said: "The police told everyone to leave the cinema as they held Taser guns in their hands and started to bring in guard dogs."

Another eyewitness described it as "one of the scariest moments of [her] life", as she queued to watch the new Frozen film with her daughter.

Choleigh McGuire said: "Armed police come, Tasers come, all of the people that were fighting ran off into the cinema, hiding. I am shaking."

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area - in the north-east of the city, close to junction six of the M6 and Aston Railway Station - due to a build-up of traffic.

A dispersal order has been put in place giving police the power to move on groups of people and arrest those who fail to leave.

Jaden Moodie: Boy, 14, 'killed by rival gang in frenzied attack'

A 14-year-old boy was knocked off a moped and then stabbed to death by a rival gang in a "violent and frenzied" attack, a court has heard.

Jaden Moodie was allegedly dealing drugs for a gang when he was targeted by a group of five men on 8 January.

Ayoub Majdouline was in a stolen Mercedes which was driven at Jaden, causing him to be "catapulted" over the bonnet, the Old Bailey heard.

Mr Majdouline, 19 and of London, denies murder and possession of a knife.

Prosecutor Oliver Glasgow QC told jurors the five men in the car had armed themselves with knives and had gone to "great lengths" to hide their faces.

"On finding Jaden Moodie, the Mercedes drove straight towards the moped, swerving onto the same side of the road so that it struck Jaden Moodie head on," he said.

He told the court the victim "did not stand a chance" and his crash helmet had come off when he was struck.

Three men then got out of the car and "repeatedly" stabbed the 14-year-old in a "violent and frenzied attack", as he lay "defenceless and seriously injured" on the ground, the court was told.

"Fourteen seconds was all it took," Mr Glasgow added.

Jaden was found with nine stab wounds and bled to death in the road, the jury heard.
'Petty rivalries'

Members of the victim's family gasped and cried out as CCTV footage of the attack was played to the jury.

The prosecutor said the images showed the killers had "no qualms about playing out their petty rivalries using the blade of a knife".

The Mercedes was abandoned in a quiet cul-de-sac, while a knife and a pair of yellow rubber gloves were thrown away and recovered from a nearby drain the next day, the court was told.

Mr Glasgow said the 14-year-old's blood and traces of the defendant's DNA were found on both.

Burnt clothing belonging to Jaden's attackers was also found in a churchyard, the court was told.

Mr Majdouline disputes playing any part in the attack.

The trial continues.

The pakistani kid killed the wrong victim, the person who he killed look very close to the person he was after - ive seen pictures of both - looks near enough identical.

Parents of the pakistani kid was robbed- where this kid also lived at - and then the pakistani kid looked for his payback-over small drugs also, the victim who died lived in the same area and wore the same hat as the kid who robbed this pakistani kid.

Jesus, So the Mirza kid who was stabbed was at wrong place and wrong time and was murdered by Khan because he wore same hat as the kid who robbed khan's family?

How common is involvement of Pakistani kids in drugs/Gangs in that part of London? Was Mirza (likely) also in some gang?

One of the three people knifed to death in London in the space of just 24 hours was an Omani engineering student studying in the UK, according to reports.

The victim, who was stabbed outside luxury department store Harrods in Knightsbridge just after midnight on Friday, has been named as Mohammed bin Abdullah al Araimi.

On Friday afternoon, the Omani Embassy in London tweeted: “The embassy in London extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We belong to Allah and to him we shall return.”

A friend of the 26-year-old told the Mail Online that Mr Araimi had been targeted by two muggers for his Rolex watch.

The friend said Mr Araimi had been living in the UK for the last three years.

Sir Alan Duncan, former International Development minister and later a senior Foreign Office minister, said he was sad to hear of the incident.

He tweeted: “Am very saddened that an Omani student was stabbed and died yesterday in Knightsbridge.

“Oman is our close friend and ally, and always so welcoming to us. Its safe streets are an example to the world. I offer respects and sympathy.”

Mr Araimi was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services, while a second man remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two other men in their 20s were murdered in knife attacks between Thursday afternoon and the early hours of Friday morning in London.

Exauce Ngimbi, 22, was pronounced dead in Hackney, east London, shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday after an altercation with a group, Scotland Yard said.

The third victim is believed to be drill rapper Crosslom Davis, 20, a member of the Harlem Spartans music group, based in Kennington, south London.

Mr Davis – who made music under the stage name “Bis” – was pronounced dead just after 3.30am on Friday in Deptford, south-east London.

England footballer Jadon Sancho, 19, led tributes online, tweeting “Rest up bis,” with a picture of the victim.

Speaking outside Scotland Yard on Friday afternoon, Commander Jane Connors said the killings were not linked to one another.

She added: “Each of these attacks is a tragedy – not just for the victims and their families but for the wider communities who are left reeling by this senseless violence.

“Our highly experienced teams of investigators are working relentlessly to determine exactly what happened and bring those responsible to justice.”

She added more officers would be on patrol in the areas where the attacks took place, including armed units.

Last year, there were 141 police-recorded homicides in the capital – the highest in a calendar year since 2008 – according to official Home Office statistics.

The PA news agency has identified 129 homicides so far in 2019, with three weeks of the year to go.
