"The wickets here take any technical deficiencies Kohli has out of the equation" : James Anderson

What about the test series in SA?

He played one superb innings in India's first innings of the first test but after that the conditions in that series were hardly difficult for batting. He didn't score more than 50 runs in the second test match anyways.

Except the England series, all other series happened 3 years back. He has since played the same teams in similar conditions and scored against them.

I don't think he's done what you're saying he has. The England series happened in 2014, the other two happened the year before. After that, the only other swing-friendly conditions Kohli has batted in has been the Asia cup.

lol ,this is true .. as some one who has followed all 4 tests almost entirely through sky's coverage and post match analysis , the 'in these conditions' comes up every single time. Not sure what to make it , maybe you're right .. there probably is some bitterness.
Their idea of an ideal cricket pitch is still very eurocentric ..

And it will not change anytime soon when we have many of our own ex-players and "Experts" making the same sort of negative comments that further give credibility for these views. Ganguly is one of those major own goal specialists. So long as people don't stand up and give them a dose of their own meds when we tour there and shut them up this will keep repeating.

So Kohli and co piled up runs on flat lifeless wickets that turned into minefield as soon as Ashwin came to bowl?

Pretty sound logic must admit

Exact words spoken.

James Anderson - We couldn't find the formula to bowl on this pitch. I keep saying that they did play very well.

Ian Ward - They did play well. Certainly Kohli. Haven't come up with a plan that's working.

James Anderson - Its tough. We have some success against him in England. The pace of the pitch over here takes any sort of flaws he has got out of the equation. I thought he just played very well. He tries to stay patient and waits and waits and waits and obviously played spin very well and pitches like this suits him down to the ground.

Topic changes.

I don't see much wrong here. Yah, Kohli has changed, but Anderson didn't anything offensive here. Not sure why PPers are complaining.

Jimmy is a fast bowler and an aggressive fast bowler will speak like this, so no sirprises there.

But the simple fact is Kohli has completely owned the english bowlers, best batsman in the world.

Speaking before the start of this series, Kohli said: "I can put it very simply as that was a phase I didn't perform very well, and it happened to be England. Could have been any other country in the world. I just take it as a setback in my career, and not motivate myself in a way that I have to prove people wrong or have to do something special against a particular opposition. For me, I'm playing a cricket ball, be it any game, any opposition, anywhere in the world. Those things do not change for me so I don't put those things in my head."

If anything Joe Root has struggled generally and India haven't introduced a turner in this series either. We all saw what happened in Bangladesh.

There should never be a debate over who is the best fast bowler, Steyn vs Anderson. Steyn just walks into any ground in the world and owns it, more often than not. Jimmy can go on and boast of his proficiency in England.

Indian players were really all over Anderson as soon as he came onto the pitch today. Umpires had to intervine. They at least have taken it personally.

Kohli just was patting him on his back ,nothing big probably wanted to finish everything off.

The poor guy is past his prime and is frustrated, his ego grounded to dust, give him a break, such things happen, feel sorry for him

I wouldn't call those online Indians necessarily bitter but more insecure and unable to read sarcasm.

After getting thrashed on the field, I suppose all that is left are comments like these.

Sad. He got inside their head so easily

Kohli and co also got irked really easily in the SA series when there was talk on doctored pitches

Same as Bairstow, Stokes and the entire slip cordon chirping away when Parthiv came to bat?

So what is wrong in chirping and giving it back?
When they do , it is aggressive cricket , giving everything to win ,mental disintegration ,wearing heart on sleeves ,blah blah blah . When we do , we have taken their comment into our head, mentally weak ,not upholding spirit of the game

Pfffttt... So now anything said/done against Anderson will be cuz he had said something not positive about the opposition. He just cannot be worked upon verbally, no bouncers either cuz ofc these moves will be due to the fact that Anderson opened his mouth.

Convenience wala logic eh :D

:misbah4

Lol, they all do that, Eng, SA, Aus. This is Test cricket at highest level and players need to be ready to receive this when giving bold statements during a match. Allthough I am a big fan of Jimmy but he get's carried away himself at times so it's healthy to get the stick as well.

India have just destroyed their confidience here.

Yes, exactly. But they fail to realise that due to geographic reasons it's not possible to produce the same wickets in the heat of the subcontinent. Any grass you leave on the pitch will bake and dry in a day. And the nature of the soil similarly makes it challenging to produce wickets that have pace and bounce.

On the contrary this move is going to backfire big time just like the jellybean incident.

What's the point of going inside someone's head after becoming 0-3 down?

Anderson is right. Kohli higa apne ghar ka Kohli, if he performs in ENG on green tops against their bowling attack and wins a series then we shall see how good or not he is.

What's the point of going inside someone's head after becoming 0-3 down?

Because you've been beaten black and blue on the field so that's what you have left

So in such a situation you don't expect the victors feathers to be ruffled so easily by a comment or two

There is definitely a little bit of sour grapeness from Anderson. Its no big deal though, part of the game, you have to look at were he is coming from, his team has been destroyed and naturally its not a great feeling in the the English camp.... I believe India won 1 test match last series in ENG ? Lets see if ENG can do the same :)

India are soft. England will humiliate them in 2018.

Only way to earn respect is to perform away which they can't do.

Going by the posts here, he's gotten inside the fans' heads too. Lol. Always fun to see a player question the skill or integrity of India's golden boy of the decade.

Jimmy has achieved a lot in his career. No need to be such a sore loser. And by the look of it, Ashwin seemed to have gotten inside Jimmy's head than anything else.

I would say 1-1 for Kohli vs. Anderson. Anderson in England and Kohli in the current series. I think it is 600 runs vs. 4 wkts in the ongoing series.

I guess 2018 will be the final answer.

Jimmy has lost his marbles, player of his caliber shouldn't have said something this lame. It just shows the arrogance and not appreciating the superb highway talent of Kohli.

James Anderson said on day four that when we get Virat Kohli back in England, where it seams and swings, they will bowl him out again. Surely when a guy bats fantastically well and is a superb batsman, you need to be gracious, not dismissive. That is what many of the players think. But sorry, the players and the team are one-dimensional, they are only good when it swings and seams. --- Boycott

He is just copying Rohit Sharma here. I recall Sharma saying something similar in Aus??

Again, I fail to see the point in doing it. It seems a lot like the kind of talk internet virgins love to have. We are beaten but let's get the last word in ahahahaha. Besides, I think international cricketers are mentally stronger than what you would think. Sure, they mouth off a lot but this Indian side is not known for being quiet. Besides, if it spurs them on, so be it.

I hope every poster who comes onto this thread reads this before launching into a rant about sour grapes from the Poms.

Wasn't meant to be a dig but of course it doesn't stop the media from sensationalising the comments to build some India-England rivalry.

Here is the whole incident: https://streamable.com/lq2l

I think the news reports say exactly what Anderson said.

I think people are referring to the his comments in the Verdict which were slightly different that what he said in the presser. The presser was a definite dig at Kohli and he got what he deserved from Ashwin and co. I like this Indian team. Its good to know others have got your back and will mouth off not just at digs to them to anybody in the team. Makes for good entertainment.

Truer words have never been spoken, we've not seen his technique be tested like on that tour in England to be honest

James Anderson is a nightmare for most Asian fans. Tormentor of Sachin, Kohli in his den and has ended or lead to the end of the careers of a few Pakistani batsmen.

Have a gut feeling Kohli will end up being the GOAT Indian batsman..

Jimmy has always been a bit "grumpy" as they say. But going through the videos, I really think that the media has had a field day with this. Compare this to some of the statements that McGrath and Warne typically make and honestly, the one that Parthiv made the very previous day.

The reactions have been over the top and personally I feel it was not really "cool" from Ashwin to make such a public hue and cry over it. A quite word would have done away from the field.

I think the prior losses did hurt us, and regardless of what Kohli says and how much better the Indians have been, there is a smidgen of truth to the tour's marketing ads.

And there really was no point to it. If it was a top order batsman and you did this to unsettle him, then that's ok. No real point in ganging up to the last wicket when you have practically won. Only goes to show you in a poor light.

Just a bit of mind games, and quite a good point from Anderson. I highly rate Kohli as well.

We are far too nannified in this generation. These are meant to be grown men. Nothing wrong with a bit of banter and spikiness off the pitch, and to an extent on the pitch as well.

This stuff was run of the mill back in the day. Now let's have some more of it.

Agree, but the person saying this should have performed home and away.....

If Broad had said this, it probably would have looked better as he bowled well in England and India.... But Anderson has looked club class and hardly looked like taking any wickets ... Shami, Stokes etc are more threatening, so its rich talk coming from Jimmy

Come again?

Broad is as big a GTB as Anderson.
