Tim Bresnan: The new Kapil Dev?

I thought he was another Anthony McGrath when he first came on the scene, but he has shown some serious quality since the ODI series against Aus at home last year.

Terrific cricketer, and an Inzy replica with the bat!

no comparison bresnan is a fast bowling allrounder , while kapil was a spinning allrounder , but i think bresnan edges it to b honest ............blessez*

The power of internet.

Just 1 innings and comparision begins.

on a serious note i always felt he was a bits and pieces cricketer , but he is proving to b a test class allrounder , the coaching system in england seems top class , hope our lads like wahab and junaid learn sumthing frm their experience..........blessez*

There are similarities.

- Both RH hitters.
- Both RH FM swingers.
- Both fat.

- both are human.
- 10 fingers, 10 toes, 2 hands, 2 feets.
- 2 eyes
- both are bowlers.... And on....

Remarkably similiar!

Pls stop writing blessez* after every post, this is not a Hallmark store.

But Bresnan doesn't support the magical moustache:kapil

"much nahi tou kuch nahi"

Bresnan isn't man enough to match Kapil's 'tache.

End of debate.

Damn, IAJ got in there first.

I don't think thats fair on Bresnan. Stuart gets Hadlee and Bresnan gets Kapil? He'd probably say 'no thanks'.

Bresnan was a stand out player at under 19 level and then for a while just looked like he would be a typical lame bits and pieces cricket for england. However hes blossomed alot over last 2 years. Alot more then i though he would. Hes a good cricketer and will serve england well for a long time.

Blitz, I was certain you would pull out stats here ala the famous Kapil vs Razzaq thread. Here we go then!

Batting Averages:
Bresnan: 37.85, Kapil: 31.05

Bowling Averages:
Bresnan: 27.96, Kapil: 29.64

Of course, it's very early in Bresnan's career and I think his batting average in particular will drop. But given his first class stats, it's doable for him to average around 30 with both bat and ball over his career.

If he is played a little higher in the batting order he will average 35, he is capable of that, I really feel that England can play 5 specialist bowlers.

Bresnan has turned out much better than many expected, very useful cricketer now.

not up to kapils mark but definitely a remarkably improved player ...long way to go

i dint rate him when he came to the scene but hes seriously making an impact here

Robert has 'actual magic powers' :O

Please make threads about some of our batsmen :59:

4 wickets for bresnan so far hes been brilliant today!

Since Bresnan started training with England he's become a beast. I've been saying it on here for ages.

Who is Kapil Dev??

Another trundler who bowls in 130s and Someone who hit a Ton against ZimBaBwe..LOL

Bresnan Would Pwn him

A 90 and a 5-fer on Yorkshire day!

Awesome match to add to a pair of memorable tests in the winter and some superb ODI performances including a vital 5-fer in India.

Top player!

Kapil was a God gifted and complete player.Bresnan would have to work really hard to even come close to Kapil.

Really impressed with Bresnan ever since his Melbourne heroics, definitely silenced many doubters.

He's a tough guy, bowls aggressively and bludgeons the cherry powerfully.

I was impressed with the way he beat up Raina and Youvraj. I didn't think he had such pace and lift.

Ever wonder how Razzaq would've treated Kapil Dev? well look no further. :razzaq

No, he is much better than Kapil. After 8/9 Test Kapil was no where near Bresnan is now.

Joking apart, Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj is Kapil Dev , after 134 Tests & carrying the expectation of a billion for a decade, & delivering often. Test Cricket has 136 years of history; & often I get a feeling here, that it started 100 years later than actual.

Hadlee, Wasim, Kapil are at their place in 136 years of history, not on the basis of 2010 or 2011 English summer.

Bresnan 4/62 so far in the 3rd Test!

Doing a great job for england again!

Unfair comparison. In the bowling, one's a sharp seamer, the other a spinner.

Bresnan has been terrific so far, with his built though he may face injuries later. Kind of like Flintoff, gets bounce and good pace, fastest of the lot in England.

And btw this spinner joke is getting pretty lame.

Kapil Dev was a joke of a cricketer, Bresnan any day over that trundler

^ How many jokes in Pakistan have taken 434 test wickets or made it to ICC hall of fame before him?

Someone hit a nerve :p

Your question is all relative.

How many Indian bowlers have taken more ODI wickets then Shahid Afridi?

See? Stupid

kapil dev played last 2 years just so he can break hadlee's record, he could barely run and his speed was slower than praveen kumar's

That last jump is always the toughest my friend !

The New Kapil now averages 45 with the bat and 24 with the ball.

Forget Kapil Dev, this guy now has better stats than Imran Khan at the moment :D

Welcome to India. Making Kapil Dev proud. Watching his heir closely from the commentary box. :p

But, we have to agree that Bresnan is the best English batsmen at the moment :))

Well, he has become a trundler so is still the new Kapil!

Haha those good old days when Bresnan was conquering Melbournes, Sydneys, Lords..Now his bowling is so poor

man!! I've jinxed!! Kapil Dev 2.0 is out!! I'm devastated... Robert bhayya...kya kare? :)))

He's a better batsman than Ian Bell at least. King Bresnan. I am impressed. Disappointing stuff with the ball though. :moyo

Ah,, I forgot, this England team was born to dominate like the Windies and Aussies right?? I think Bresnan is infact more like Sobers...

Stay tuned into the match, Richard Hadlee 2.0 is at the crease :)))

He specialized in putting in a hard 'yakka' when things got tough. Now he has become a slacker

Yes, Bres has lost pace in the last year. If he can't take wickets he shouldn't be in the side, and would not have been playing in this one Finn were fit.

Anyway Bell is off to see his kid born for the next test. Maybe Bairstow will come in and resist the attempt to commit suicide first ball.

Whatever happened to my main man Ryan Sidebottom? Guess he would have been cool in India,

in terms of skill and ability, they're both on par with each other. both medium pacers and tailenders with the bat.

Kapil made the ball swing in India and bowled over after over in the heat. Was a better bat too under pressure. I thought Bresnan would do better than Jimmy and Broad but I guess I was wrong about that. They are all the same :yk

I remember a series where Bresnan averaged 20 with the ball and 40 with the bat; I think it was the same series where India received their first of the back-to-back Test whitewashes, lost the number one ranking, and thus began their long descent into inferiority.

Woakes will be a better cricketer.

The new Imran Khan.
