Tim Bresnan: The new Kapil Dev?

Oops!

Anyway this is truly a golden age. England already have The New Hammond/Bailey/Botham/Flintoff (Stokes), The New Sobers (Moeen), The New Hadlee (Broad) and The New Imran (Woakes).

Now The New Kapil is back on form too, Australia had better watch out!

Lmao :)):))

Gary Ballance & Adam Lyth. Surely he's played with better players or seen better players.

Kapil

1. 3000 runs in 109 innings in 73 tests
2. 3000 runs in 108 innings in 75 tests

During same time Kapil averaged 42 in West Indies where Imran failed to score even a 50. Overall Kapil scored 2 100s against arguably best bowling of that time.

Imran's batting improved a lot in later stages of his career, but for most part of it (90% of tests), was he better batsman than Kapil?

Imran was an honest trier with the bat nothing more, he struggled in WI test matches vs their best quicks. Dev's batting talent if he properly utilized it would have been ATGreatness. His pulverizing 100 in WI facing the best WI quicks was a testament to his god gifted natural ability with the bat, he nearly did it again in the following test match when he held out for like 95 off 70 balls vs the WI quicks?.. Its a shame Dev was so careless with his batting, if only he gave it a proper effort he may have been India's ATG batsmen before SRT.... Either way what an athlete he was...

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club can confirm that Tim Bresnan has informed the Club of his decision to leave with immediate effect to pursue playing opportunities elsewhere.

Since making his First-Class debut for Yorkshire against Northamptonshire in 2003, the 35-year-old has enjoyed an illustrious career with the White Rose, being an integral part of the back-to-back County Championship winning sides of 2014 and 2015.

Bresnan arguably had his finest season representing the White Rose in 2016, scooping the Club’s Player of the Year Award after some fine performances with bat and ball. Although in vain, Bresnan’s memorable 142 not out against Middlesex during the final game of that season summed up the importance of the Pontefract born all-rounder’s contributions.

In his career-to-date, Bresnan has played 199 First-Class matches, taking 557 wickets and scoring 6714 runs. The all-rounder’s List A statistics are equally as impressive, taking 315 wickets and scoring 3221 runs from 173 games.

It is, however, on the international stage where Bresnan has made a huge impact, being an integral part of two Ashes Series victories and playing in every match of England’s T20 World Cup victory in 2010.

Further T20 achievements include victory in the Big Bash with the Perth Scorchers in 2017 and that famous 6-19 in the Roses match at Emerald Headingley, the best T20 bowling figures recorded in the county’s history. In 173 T20 matches to date, Bresnan has taken 168 wickets, scoring 1533 runs.

Speaking about his decision, Bresnan said: “I would like to thank Yorkshire for giving me 19 fantastic years and the opportunity when I was younger to kick-start my career. Hopefully with me moving aside, the younger players will get their opportunity to kick-start their careers as well.

“It has given me immense pride to represent the county for the best part of two decades. My Yorkshire cap is one of my proudest possessions. I would also like to thank the Members for their support during my time at Yorkshire.

“I didn’t take this decision lightly but now is the best time to move on. There is still plenty of fire in my belly and I look forward to what the future brings.”

Martyn Moxon, The Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Director of Cricket said: “Everyone at the Club has huge respect for Tim for what he has achieved in his career for Yorkshire and England. He has represented the Club with huge pride and distinction for 19 years.

“His contribution both on and off the field has been immense and we wish him every success for the future.”

I respect Robert . When this thread backfired royally he took it on the chin like a man! :yk

His stats in test cricket aren’t too bad 32 with the ball 26 with the bat he definitely had some all round ability.

Bresnan was good but England eventually found better options than him.

All the best to Bresnan with his post-retirement life.

Sibley is a doubt for the first Kiwi test, having broken a finger fielding off The New Kapil’s rocketspeed bowling.

Two years after this thread was made, Bresnan was absolutely trundling in Australia as was Tremlett. Bog average run-of-the-mill county cricketer who had a few good days. Nothing more. Atleast flintoff had some serious highs despite having a largely average career.

Unlike Flintoff, Brezzylad averaged 26 in Australia and took a sixfer.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club and former England all-rounder Tim Bresnan has announced his retirement from the professional game with immediate effect.

Bresnan will finish his 20-year playing career on a high after helping the Bears secure their eighth County Championship title in 2021.
The 36-year-old received his Warwickshire Cap in April, becoming a pivotal part of the team through key contributions with bat and ball.
Tim Bresnan said: “This has been an incredibly tough decision, but after returning to winter training I feel that this is the right time. I have continued to work hard throughout the off-season to prepare for my 21st professional year, but deep down I feel I can’t reach the high standards that I set myself and my teammates. The hunger and enthusiasm that I have for the game I love will never leave me, but whilst my head is willing to tackle the 2022 season, my body is not.

“I will always look back at my career with immense pride and it’s been an absolute honour to represent Warwickshire, my home county and country. Growing up I never would have believed how lucky I was to play with and against some of the finest cricketers to grace the game.

“These discussions are never easy, but I want to thank Farby, Stuart and the whole team for their support and understanding. When I signed my two-year deal, I was tasked to not only help a young side progress on the field, but off it as well. On reflection, I’m proud of everything we have achieved as a team, and that final day against Somerset will live with me for the rest of my life. I firmly believe this group of players have the potential to build on their success and go from strength to strength.

“To everyone at Edgbaston thank you for supporting me and my family through one of the most exciting periods of my career. From the first moment I arrived at Warwickshire it felt like home and its Members and supporters will always be close to my heart. The phrase ‘Once a Bear Always a Bear’ holds true.

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to represent England and Yorkshire and those memories will never leave me. The opportunity to wear the Three Lions is something that should never be taken for granted and I’m proud to have played a very small part in our country’s storied history.

“There are too many people I need to thank, but I hope they know that their guidance and support have been integral to helping me throughout my career. To anyone who has ever helped me, thank you.

“Finally, I can’t finish without thanking my amazing wife, Hannah, my wonderful children, Max, Ozzy and Etta, my unwaveringly supportive friends and all my family. I love you all and I couldn’t have done it without you.

“I’m excited for my next chapter and am determined to throw everything into it, like I did on the cricket field for so many years.”
Across his First-Class career, Bresnan amassed 7,138 runs and 575 wickets with seven centuries and nine five-wicket hauls.

At international level, the right-hander went on to represent England on 142 occasions, including 23 Tests, forming part of the team that won the 2010/11 Ashes in Australia and went to the top of the Test rankings in 2011.

Bresnan was also part of the England side that secured the 2010 World Twenty20 trophy for the first time.

“Tim has had an astounding career,” said Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace. “I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with him throughout his cricketing journey and he has been a marvellous servant to the game.

“When Tim joined Warwickshire, I believed he could make a huge impact to our side with his experience, knowledge and attitude, and as a County Champion he has certainly achieved that. His performances for the Club have been exemplary and the impact he made on that final day against Somerset will be something that no Bear will ever forget.

“During his international career, Tim rose to the occasion when his country needed him and his achievements on the biggest stage show how talented and driven, he is.

“Knowing when to retire is an incredibly difficult decision for every professional sports man and woman and I know how much time and thought Tim would have made to reach this conclusion. Sadly, for us all, Tim can’t continue, but he deserves a huge amount of credit for making this call with plenty of time ahead of the season.

“Tim has certainly made his mark on this Club and his impact will be missed. We will look to replace him on and off-the-field, whilst welcoming back with open arms when he returns to Edgbaston.”

That is like saying Shardul Thakur: the next Ian Botham.

His teammates anyways call him Beefy.

His career finally comes to a close. An England titan who bestrode the world of cricket. When comes such another?
