The man, the myth, the LEGEND! - Fakhar Zaman!

No matter what direction his career heads here on, Fakhar Zaman has not only written but carved his name in history! He turned up with a magnificent and brutal century in the all important India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy final and made sure he saw Pakistan home.

An India vs Pakistan affair is not just any game, more than a billion people across the globe leave work, skip school and a thousand other daily life activities to watch this game and the fact that it was the final is just icing on the cake. The pressure on the players is beyond human perception and Fakhar Zaman took the challenge like a champion. People called him a legside hack, an off-side hack, an ugly player, a "bottler", a "tullay-baaz", a fluke and a thousand other things but boy, did he turn up.

Playing in alien conditions, against some of the fiercest attacks in the world, in his very first series for Pakistan and with the weight of all the hopes and dreams (and pressure too!), Fakhar Zaman won it for Pakistan.

To all the naysayers: Please stop ridiculing young talent and depriving them of spots in the team. Poor old Zaman is short of only one mediocre score before PP (and the rest of Pakistan) start calling for his head and year for the return of our beloved Shehzad's and Akmal's.

Thank you Fakhar Zaman. Thank you for being the first Pakistan to score a scintillating (:ik2 ) century in a championship final (doing it vs India was just icing on the cake). Only if we learned to appreciate talent like you..

P.S. We need a Fakhar Zaman smiley!

Amazing .. Hats off to the guy & his attitude . Certainly not selfish or a coward like Shehzad etc . Just the sort of guy we needed at the top . His game vs spinners is even better than Sharjeel i reckon .

I tagged the main culprits in his Talent Spotter thread when he got to his ton. Needless to say none of those who were tagged were man enough to admit they might have been wrong.

You should have tagged me as well

Absolutely, Sharjeel was a liability vs spin but still a very good batsman. What sets Zaman apart from Sharjeel is the hunger and the ability to play longer and more defining innings. Today, Zaman took risks, but calculated risks and made SURE he saw Pakistan home. Another reason why he's been consistent in getting 50's throughout the tournament. Sharjeel, owing to his excess weight, used to get tired after a few shots and it was hard for him to play 50+ balls.

Excellent knock.

This isn't probably the right time but how many of his runs were scored against pace and in which areas where they scored? I have a feeling that he scored close 40-50 runs against seam and over half of them were edges.

I think India worked him over initially by allowing zero width and then throwing a tempter.

Good knock nonetheless.

Absolutely. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Zaman is a "hack" according to our lovely blokes on PP, then a hack is everything we need.

Well he is quite courageous. He got hit on the helmet a number of times in the tournament, but he just kept swinging. There was no shying away.

Whilst he had his fair share of fortune today, I thought he was brilliant against the spinners, with excellent use of the feet in either going back or forwards. And a bit like Younis Khan he used his arms to really reach for the ball and smother any spin. That spell after the run out when he laid into the spinners was a memorable passage.

Plenty of Humble Pie being served!

Knew he was gonna get a century soon! The impressive thing so far about him is he has gotten better every innings. In the SL and SA knocks he showed he can just go out there and hit. Then in the England and India game he showed he can play sensibly at a run a ball and construct and innings. Been tremendous so far, lets hope he only gets better from here on!

Bravery is what we need. What I found most intriguing was his selfless batting. Since day 1, he's looked to go after the bowlers and he's tried to win it for Pakistan despite knowing about the strong lobby for Shehzad and Akmal. He realised that he was just one failure away from the fans going crazy and Shehzad being brought back YET he played with just bravery. This, to me, trumps everything. We need more such players.

Loved the way he thrashed India! The best moment of the entire game was seeing Indian fans run for the exit lol
On a more serious note; Fakhar will remember this day for the rest of his life. Well done!

I have supported him when Sharjeel was banned .Just love the no fear approach he have

Though it is a magnificent innings.. he need to improve his game , as India worked over his weakness and got him, luckily that was a no-ball...

I would like to add that we must thank Mc Cullum for mentoring him and being in touch with Fakhar Zaman right throughout the tournament.

Whilst I thought he deserved a chance once selected, I wasn't entirely convinced by him. But he has proven me wrong and now deserves a long run. Will improve series by series.

No idea who he was.

But he's been amazing, played very well under pressure in a major tournament.

Good find, he'll only improve from here.

Very well said.

Batting the way he does (ie selflessly) will also bring a few failures- it is important when that happens he is still supported/encouraged by the management to continue playing his natural game. Otherwise we will destroy his confidence as he will feel he is constantly playing for his position in the team.

With Mickey in charge, I am optimistic he will get the support he deserves- the "culture of fear" seems to have been swept away. Here's hoping it stays that way.
