Of all the world's pace bowlers at the moment I have to say that Trent Boult is one of my favourite bowlers and a bowler who I really enjoy watching.

His ability to bowl with pace and seam and swing the ball makes him such a dangerous opponent. He seems to have great control and also has a great Yorker.

I watched his spell yesterday against the West Indies and he made Chris Gayle look like a novice. He was beating him for pace, beating him on the outside edge and inside edge before eventually dismissing him with a superb Yorker.

I think of all the pace bowlers in the world Boult is one that has a lot of potential and has the world at his feet.

He seems to have 'mongrel' as they say. Don't see that in Southee tbh. I wouldn't say he is "destined" to be a great but he has shown massive potential to be one.

I've rated him as the most promising young quick around.

His control with both new and old ball is superb, swings it both ways at a good click and I especially like his attitude towards bowling kid'll will run in hard all day.

Obviously to early to predict whether he'll be a great or not but what I've seen so far he sure has the talent, potential and attitude to do so.

Here's hoping he delivers the promise he has shown!

Great news for world cricket.

It is always exciting to see pacers at their best :akhtar

He's really good! Can bowl fast and swing it!

The best part is that he loves to pitch it up, something our pacers need to learn to do.

Excellent prospect but I rate Southee a bit higher. He has more strings to his bow and can be effective on any pitch.

They should share the new ball for the next 10 years and go down as one of best pairings.

Southee has more skills at the moment but Boult has advantage of being a left hander and is able to bring ball back in to right handers.

Beautiful bowler. Easily the best of the upcoming lot.

He is what Junaid Khan should be or was supposed to be.

Seems like a very likeable kid too. Back when they won in Hobart by a sliver he was the won who got the runs by flaying the last few balls when he was stuck with Chris Martin at the other end.

This guy is definitely the real deal. Could very well become the best bowler in the world in the next few years.

New ball, old ball, bounce, pace, swing, yorker - everything.

Will be quite difficult to handle in the UAE soon. :ibutt

Amir will have something to say about that.

I will set on the fence for now. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to overcome the mental barrier or not.

Considering the idea that he'll return the same cricketer as he was before getting banned a foregone conclusion is nothing more than a foo's rubbish. IMO it is still 50-50, could go either way.

Not his skill (he won't lose that) but his mentality.

Definitely.

Superb young cricketer. Love watching him bowl.

NZ will be a quality team in future. Boult & Williamson are destined to be greats of the game.

Those two deliveries to Ahmed Shehzad were a treat to watch. I will always cherish that. It was a pure genius at work. He is talented. May be destined!

It will be one hell of a competition b/w amir and boult for world no.1 bowler spot. Cricket will be a lot better with Amir and Boult bowling at peak of their abilities. I think Amir may outdone Boult in the long run.

Excellent Bowler, easily the top swing bowler in world cricket... His control on swing is commendable... What Junaid showed in one tour of India, he does it day in day out... He were hoping Junaid to be like him, but well, that still remains a hope :(

NZ has excellent team, with Boult and Southee they have best new ball pair in world cup, watch out, NZ can also score 300 runs too, this time they might actually win the WC!!

Massive talent. Really happy to see kiwis having two top class bowlers in southee and Boult.

Boult is such a great bowler to watch with crazy swing. I don't know why but Corey Anderson's bowling reminds me of Boult from the naked eye.

He's just getting better and better and it's not just coincidence that he's shown tremendous improvement with Shane Bond as head coach.

This lad is one of my favourite bowlers at the moment.

Without a doubt the best young bowler in world cricket today (not considering Amir). The only bowler that comes close to him is Pat Cummins, a level above the rest.

100% agree. but i would say tim southee is just as good.

Southee has been around for 6 years now, don't think he qualifies as a young/upcoming bowler anymore. In terms of age yes, but not in terms of experience and exposure.

He is skiddy as well as he can generate good bounce of good length deliveries.Because he is skiddy it helps him to make batsman hurry in to the shot and has got real good inswinger.
Since Akhar and Shane Bond one bowler that is to watch out for barring Amir is this kid.
Never been a great fan of styen because he looks too mechanical , He has got pace and is a wonderful bowler but being a spectator he doesnt make your blood to run fast in veins.

He's the real deal, always knew the moment I saw him a couple of years back. With each passing game, his control has got better and better and he has now added an away swinger to his arsenal as well. Pace is around 140 which makes the swing even more effective.

Definitely amongst the top swing bowlers in the world at the moment. Couple of match winning spells in Test match cricket and he'll become a serious contender to challenge Steyn/Johnson for the top slot.

A great to watch. What terrific bowling against the Bangladeshi openers. Absolutely spiritual!

Is he the next anderson ? Time will tell if he can perform in conditions that aren't too conducive to swing bowling.

Could be the wasim akram of this WC. Kiwis are lucky to find these talents in such a tiny country

We were lucky not to lose more wickets to him.

First 3 overs were maidens. Next 4 went at 9 an over though...

I have said this plenty of times before that Boult is the best young pace bowler in the world. The guy definitely has what it takes to become a great of the game.

Watching him bowl is a treat.

In a few years when Steyn retires he should be the best bowler in the world. I would be utterly dissapointed if he doesn't get there.

A good bowler
but definitely not a great bowler material
no way
i did not watch him well initially
He just another one of those guys who will perform exceptionally (considering the conducive conditions he got in wc) for a specific period of time

So my conclusion not going to be a great bowler
may become someone like southee
but southee is just slightly an above average bowler

Last time i saw Saj say it about Piyush Chawla epic Jinx that was.

What happened to Boult? He has become a shadow of the bowler he was one and a half year ago? Pace has gone down and there is no swing as well.

I don't think he was ever destined to be a "great". He had potential and has that fighting spirit. Just missing that x-factor of bowlers like Starc/Steyn. Has actually bowled decently in the last two matches. Southee has actually regressed more.

He was fantastic in the first innings of the first test. Him and Amla made the first session that day an engrossing one full of high-quality cricket.

He was kept quite by some quality batting from the Proteas for the last couple of days.

Without a doubt the best young bowler in world cricket today (not considering Amir). The only bowler that comes close to him is Pat Cummins, a level above the rest.

Another couple of bowlers cursed by Mamoon. Please spare Starc.

A very good bowler but still lacks a bit of patience at Test level.

Doesn't have that extra yard of pace to be truly considered a great, pretty similar to James Anderson in a way except Anderson is infinitely more skilled at nipping the ball around through both seam and swing. Boult is still relatively young and can easily play another 7-8 years, so every chance he might improve just as much as Anderson did with experience.

Still a very good bowler but lacks the skill set of a GREAT of game.

NZ only has one potential ATG in their team and is what you call a real quality.

Hes a good new ball bowler. And on a pitch with a bit of grass he will be a handful. But he will be ineffective on flat tracks due to his lack of pace.

Too early to label him a great. Boult is quality though. His partnership with Southee has to be one of the finest in world at the moment. They are both decent stroke playing bats.

With trundling pace and ball not swinging much (that too no late swing), he won't pick up many Test wickets at decent average.

I see him dwindling.

Boult is good, but Starc is the one who is going to be a great.

He's the one who brings it every game.

Sorry, no.

He is more skilful than Mitchell Starc, but in Australia and South Africa he has been exposed as too short to be a top bowler. He needed the Adelaide greentop and pink ball to perform.

Too short.

Too short.

Skill, but no heart in my opinion.

Starc has heart and it shows. He runs in hard on any pitch. Boult fades away when getting spanked.

AND...

In ODIs, Starc wins on all accounts. Skill, heart, stats, everything.

Failed in Australia, flattered to deceive in South Africa. Why is the guy even talked about?

Starc scares the living day lights out of any batting line in the world on any pitch. I mean who the heck is Trent Boult, the name doesn't even ring a bell.

Boult was seriously lacking form just around a year and a half ago, was bowling at 130 and hardly swinging it, but he's turned it around, pace is up there, and he's swinging the ball. Was phenomenal in todays game and also bowled well in the CT and NZ's home season.

He's turned out to be a valuable asset in LOIs, rarely goes for many runs and even if he does, will take a couple of wickets.

He doesn't get the recognition others from around the world do though.

Outstanding bowler. Great to see him get back to his best after the injury. The best left-arm pacer of this era after Starc.

He was fantastic today. Other kiwi bowlers were nowhere close to him.

Brilliant bowler whos getting back into form. A treat to watch when in full flow. Deserved man of the match today.

Boult and Southee are world class.

At home (or anywhere lese where the ball swings) they become ATG class.
