Trent Boult - Destined to be a great? Released from central contract by NZC

One of the great left-arm pacers. Wonderful to see him regain his mojo after struggling a bit post injury.

Trent Boult is the best bowler in the world

I think he is better than Starc, who is widely regarded as the best.

Starc is too loose, gives away too many runs and is obsessed with the yorker. He's not great with the new ball and wastes it plenty of time.

Better than Rabada too. Who hasn't done anything substantial in LOIs.

Imo Boult is the best. He has no weakness.

I saw a thread about Wagner after his 7fer :) Na.. this is one of those NZ wickets that assists the swing bowlers in the first morning of first day and it will become a flat road after that. Don't rule England making 600 runs in the 2nd innings. Has happened in NZ many times.

Always been world class. Bowls yorkers, bouncers with accuracy and venom. Swings it both ways. Takes awesome catches. Can run through batting line-ups. Averages less than 28 in all the formats. And himself is just 28.

Easily among the top-3 all format bowlers of this era.

He's great to watch when he's moving the ball around and going right through batsmen's defences.

Wagner doesn't swing the ball... he bangs it in..

Rabada is better.

Boult is like Philander.

Why are you insulting Boult by comparing him to a Philander who's a non-entiy in LOI? Boult is a potential ATG in the making. A test specialist lile Philander isn't fit to be Boult's waterboy

Boult and Starc are the exceptional lefties, Rabada and potentially Hasan are the exceptional righties.

I have to watch tonight's highlights.

That comparison was only in tests. That is what I clarified in my other post.

babajee , Boult is garbage eh ? Outperforming our attack in there own conditions:))) topspin

Brilliant swing bowler.

But, Amir at his best is better. I hope he can find his swing again.

Faheem didn't even make the team but has the nerve to call Boult rubbish is nonsensical. :yk

Amir is not better in any format. 2010 is long gone dude.

Amir is way better than him in T20Is, check the stats.

Boult is better in ODIs.

In Tests there is no comparison given that Boult plays most of his matches in New Zealand and still is no great.

All over Pakistan batsmen in the 1st Test in Abu Dhabi - brilliant bowler.

Remarkable ability to swing the ball in all conditions. Truly the most skilled left-arm pacer since Wasim, and the most skilled overall since Anderson.

Incredible spell of swing bowling today to take 6 off 15 balls and get NZ a good lead.

I had my doubts of him running through a team, but he showed he's capable today.

From the very first time I saw him I thought this guy can be something special

Trent Boult on fire vs India in warmup - 3 wickets so far

Now number one in ODIs now, dethroning Bumrah.

He will end his career as New Zealand's best ever limited overs bowler, and arguably their second best test bowler in history.

absolutely great bowler. But very conditions specific. Great exponent of swing conditions. Not impressive in sub continent or in bouncy wickets for some strange reason however a great bowler no doubt.

Already is NZ second best Test bowler of all time.
Unfortunately his record in Aus, SA and WI is quite poor with 36+ avg ...has to bring this down to 32-33 levels or atleast have some match shaping performance in each country to get any credibility as a cross generational great

he is a wonderful bowler way way better than that way too overrated tim southee. He swings it both ways and has a beautiful bowling action and seems like a nice guy too.

Nothing strange about his struggle on bouncy wickets. He's not tall enough.

He has success in sub continent. I remember he bowled well Vs Pakistan in UAE last time in NZ series win there.

oh did he? was a weaker pakistan side no?
Ah well he performed anyway so good for him.

He had no success in India though. Limited.

He did bowl well in Lanka.

..............

2014 :)

Lol it was hardly some big prediction.

Bout especially was already tearing up the scene and as early as 2011 was winning New Zealand test matches in Australia.

Williamson has been around and performing for a few years too.

This is like prediction today that Babar will be a great. Obviously there is always a chance that his career goes pear shaped and he just loses it for the rest of his career. But based on past performance, his work ethic and other factors; more likely than not he will be a great

Like most left armers, its a pleasure watching him bowl.

Seems to have lost a bit of mojo post the World Cup though.

He is remarkably similar to Mohammad Amir.

Similar pace, similar height, similar method, similar results.

Interestingly, they both have a similar Achilles heel too: when they get to Australia they are neither tall enough nor quick enough to thrive. Boult's Aussie figures are completely distorted by a pink ball greentop extravaganza at Adelaide.

3/30 in 4 in the IPL 2020 final - bad news for Pakistan soon :(

And in India, Sri Lanka as well. He sucks there.

He is devastating with the new ball . But in LO cricket later on the innings I am not convinced by his ability at that stage. I think he can be got at . He doesn't have a devastating yorker, short ball, or pace.

He is a quality bowler overall. Just something I have noticed about him during the IPL and in NZ limited overs games.

Except that Boult is far more commited to the game in all formats and a great role-model to the youngsters which Amir isn't.

IPL performance don't matter but he is a brilliant bowler. Beautiful action.Love watching him bowl.

Very good bowler cant waite to watch boult and shaheen in this swinging conditions

Some worrying facts for Pakistan fans...

No one has taken more Test wickets at Hagley Oval than Trent Boult. The fast-bowler has 43* Test wickets at the Christchurch venue. Tim Southee has the next most with 37*

Has Trent Boult declined post 2019 World Cup?

He was NZ's best bowler in past decade but has been poor since then, also Southee, Wagner and Jamieson all have done better than him since then.

He has definitely lost a bit of pace and swing over the past year.

He has looked off. He bowled well in the test tour of sri lanka after the world cup. He has declined after eng series

He is arguably going to end his career with a comparable legacy to Zaheer Khan or Morne Morkel. I think that will be fair as he hasn't been a superior bowler to those two.
