When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.

Belleau Wood is a consequential battle in American history, and the ground on which it was fought is venerated by the Marine Corps. America and its allies stopped the German advance toward Paris there in the spring of 1918. But Trump, on that same trip, asked aides, “Who were the good guys in this war?” He also said that he didn’t understand why the United States would intervene on the side of the Allies.

Trump remained fixated on McCain, one of the few prominent Republicans to continue criticizing him after he won the nomination. When McCain died, in August 2018, Trump told his senior staff, according to three sources with direct knowledge of this event, “We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral,” and he became furious, according to witnesses, when he saw flags lowered to half-staff. “What the f**k are we doing that for? Guy was a f*****g loser,” the president told aides. Trump was not invited to McCain’s funeral.

Trump’s understanding of heroism has not evolved since he became president. According to sources with knowledge of the president’s views, he seems to genuinely not understand why Americans treat former prisoners of war with respect. Nor does he understand why pilots who are shot down in combat are honored by the military. Trump finds the notion of military service difficult to understand, and the idea of volunteering to serve especially incomprehensible. (The president did not serve in the military; he received a medical deferment from the draft during the Vietnam War because of the alleged presence of bone spurs in his feet. In the 1990s, Trump said his efforts to avoid contracting sexually transmitted diseases constituted his “personal Vietnam.”)

On Memorial Day 2017, Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery, a short drive from the White House. He was accompanied on this visit by John Kelly, who was then the secretary of homeland security, and who would, a short time later, be named the White House chief of staff. The two men were set to visit Section 60, the 14-acre area of the cemetery that is the burial ground for those killed in America’s most recent wars. Kelly’s son Robert is buried in Section 60. A first lieutenant in the Marine Corps, Robert Kelly was killed in 2010 in Afghanistan. He was 29. Trump was meant, on this visit, to join John Kelly in paying respects at his son’s grave, and to comfort the families of other fallen service members. But according to sources with knowledge of this visit, Trump, while standing by Robert Kelly’s grave, turned directly to his father and said, “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?” Kelly (who declined to comment for this story) initially believed, people close to him said, that Trump was making a ham-handed reference to the selflessness of America’s all-volunteer force. But later he came to realize that Trump simply does not understand non-transactional life choices.

“He can’t fathom the idea of doing something for someone other than himself,”
one of Kelly’s friends, a retired four-star general, told me. “He just thinks that anyone who does anything when there’s no direct personal gain to be had is a sucker. There’s no money in serving the nation.” Kelly’s friend went on to say, “Trump can’t imagine anyone else’s pain. That’s why he would say this to the father of a fallen marine on Memorial Day in the cemetery where he’s buried.”

Trump supporting conservatives, never talk about patriotism and backing the troops again if you continue to support this man.

An article based on nothing but hear'say and 3rd party comments.

I would question the validity of the comments. No empirical evidence like an actual recording. Nope, just 'he said, she said, they said' - desperation knows no bounds.

One must question the integrity of journalism these days.

Sad part is people will fall for the OP as fact, when it's nothing close.

No reason for any trump supporter to believe those quotes

Guardian would had ripped such a report had it come from an conservative source on a Liberal candidate.

Trump avoided doing military service himself so those statements are perfectly believable. Especially the one about him refusing to attend a service in the rain in case it spoiled his carefully coiffed combover.

Not sure what your point is. Look at the long list of Conscientious Objectors in the USA.

Of course this is nothing compared to the opinion of the USA military and personal from around the world.

Sad indicment of living in a country which values military service in wars which have never reached the USA border, and were illegal.

My point is that I find those quotes perfectly believable, I'm not judging him negatively on it, I agreed with Mohammed Ali's refusal to fight in the Vietnam war as well. Although I doubt Trump would ever admit it publicly as he is counting on the patriot vote who probably believe USA sends it's military abroad on humanitarian grounds to spread peace and freedom.

Would any politican in USA admit to counting on the patriotic vote? McLain did, he lost.

You see people around the world label US troops a lot worse than Trump allegedly has.

My point is simple, objective and unbiased journalism.

Who, What, Where, Why, When, and How? The 6 pillars of objective journalism. Where is the evidence supporting the claim in the OP?

I might aswell post links from RT and FB if Atlantic is deemed a credible source based on Hear'say.

Well I am not making any claims they are facts, just saying from his own actions they seem perfectly believable. If Atlantic can make unverified claims about their President without any comebacks then good luck to them. Trump can always sue them if he feels he has been misrepresented.

Trump doesn't need to sue. He survived impeachment despite the evidence.

If Atlanic make unverified claims, then that's thier call, but people believing unverified claims in the absence of emprical evidence just highlights the precise problem in society. Sheep.

You are acting as if you have never heard Trump speak before.

Any mixture of words out of Trump mouth is possible.

I would say the ones who don't believe them are sheep. Although of course if you really wanted to stick to facts only, it's unlikely sheep would even have an opinion about Trump seeing as they are four legged animals who eat grass and wear woolly coats.

Ahhhh! The ones who question the validity and credibility of news are sheep, but the ones who accept and believe information without verification (propaganda) are the salt of the earth. Problem solved.

The left tried the same stunt in the OP not so long ago - Jacob Blake - pushing his shooting video as police brutality - totally believable - based on a half length video. Well, we know how that turned out to be.

In summary, the OP has Blaked it.

I hear loads of stuff. All I ask for is evidence. Just like that 'locker room' talk audio clip of Trump.

I see, you are turning this in to left vs right, center vs far, middle vs anywhere.

Calling other sheep for saying, yes! he could have said that because he had said that on live TV isn't same as believing he would have never said anything like that unless there is an evidence.

No. I asked for evidence supporting claims made in the OP.

Do you have it? Yes or No?

For those of you who do not what what is meant by Sheep (or Sheeple) - anyone who unconditionally accepts information. In the same way a sheep follows a shepherd unconditionally.

Desparate attempt to change the meaning and intentionaly ignorning the main point of people inclining to believe that he could've said that because of past live recored TV interviews and based on his personality.

People trying to outright declining and asking for evidence from the reader (laughable) are probably be looked as sheep.

Yup thought so, you don't have the evidence newbie.

Baa baa!

People believe India is a cesspit and the hub of terrorism because Modi is the Messiah of Hindutva. Must be true because of Modi's actions, and ofcourse, people just say it!

People belive India is a cesspit and the hub of terrorism because Modi is the Messiah of Hindutva. Must be true because of Modi's actions, and ofcourse, people just say it!

Not really but people do believe he promote and rode on sectarian politics to become PM of India, although his party has a tendency to look the other way when violence is against Muslims.

You are trying to change the narrative, again?

Babar Azam is the world's best batsman. Better than Kohli. It is the truth because Pakistani fans just believe it!

Modi is a terrorist because Pakistanis and Indian Muslims believe it.

Accept this 'fact' without evidence.

Move on.

And there we have it. This is how easy it is to destroy the lefty loon hypocritical logic.

Trump - no evidence but believable.
Modi - no evidence thus not true.

The logic and plight of sheeple in 2 bullet points.

The article should be dismissed. Trump would never attack military veterans !

Have you even seen the video? Trump called John Mclain a 'War hero' in the video you cite.

Your video has totally torpedeod your OP and credibility.

Stick to the Guardian.

Blaked it.

"He is not a war hero. He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."

Sounds like he's denigrating McCain's military service not only to me, but anyone who watches the video without their red MAGA hat on.

Nice try gaslighting though. Think all that clubbing back in the day is finally catching up to you old chap.

Even if I grant you your wishy washy attempt, your video is not evidence of the claims made in the OP. What is the matter with you? How desperate can you be?

The left need to do better than character assasination.

Come back when you have evidenc supporting the quotes in the OP.

So we've first established Trump is on video publicly mocking John McCain's military record so Trump's denials that he didn't in private is laughable.

Secondly, since you're so determined to be embarrassed yet again, we have Elizabeth Neumann (former assistant secretary of counter-terrorism in Trump's Department of Homeland Security) and Miles Taylor (former chief of staff in Trump's DHS) going on the record confirming the story.

And guess what, they have receipts !

Game Set and Match.

Now jog on and enjoy your weekend instead of shilling for a lying, bigot Cheeto in human form that's Commander Bone Spurs Donald Trump.

Clutching at straws. Lol. Self proclaimed victory by stating game set match? Desperado.

You are wasting my time and your time. Trump's opinion of McCain is not evidence of Trump's alleged quotes in the OP. Especially a tweet!

No wonder major outlets were weary of running this story - there's no evidenc other than character assessment.

You looney lefts are more dangerous than the KKK.

Markor quote - "anyone who voted for Brexit is a racist"

His words. Verbatim. I don't need to provide evidence, I will just cite you his view of Brexit on PP.

No. I asked for evidence supporting claims made in the OP.

So which of these links is evidence of the quotes in the OPs? Show me the quotes.

You lot are struggling.

Baby steps.

Evidence for the following quotes from Trump ;

"Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed."

Just one piece of evidence that cites the exact words above.

You don't have it.

Trump is the same fool who told everyone to inject disinfectant. He says all sorts of nonsense so it's not wise to defend such a clown.

He did say many times Yankee wars were worthless or something along those lines.

There are better things to do with ones life than defend Trump.

You are having a laugh right? Another tweet claiming Trump said xyz?

Well if you think the above counts as evidence, John Bolton denies Trump ever said those words - considering he was Trump's NSA, in the same meeting, and is soon to publish a tell all book on Trump.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehil...ar-trump-insult-fallen-soldiers-in-france?amp

It is such a waste of time and I do not know why am I even entertaining orange fur sheeps.

But here is the actual quote of Bolton, "I didn't hear that," Bolton told The New York Times. "I'm not saying he didn't say them later in the day or another time, but I was there for that discussion."

Orange fur sheeps want evidence whereas everyone in this thread is saying, if you look at history of diarhea coming out of his mouth then it is very likely he may have said it.

Man this one hurts!

I wasn't expecting these statements from him...

The reality is anyone living outside of the USA opposing Trump, has no reason to. Unless the media commands them to. This is precisly when asked for evidence they have none. Waiting for the next media fix. I mean the OP spent half a day searching for evidence, and failed.

Trump will forever remain the most entertaining politician of all time. I hope he riles and triggers the lefty loon liberals for another 4 years!

:)

Tbf he's right isnt he? Which wars have the Yanks helped anyone? WW2 is littered with historical inaccuracies. Ie. Germany under Hitler was nowhere near as powerful as suggested, heck some of his troops were using horses in the 40's.

The way he embraced social media, the way he makes mistakes, just like we all do, the way he fights his ground - every tweet of his is headline news, the media love him! I don't care if he is right or wrong, he sure beats the traditional fake politicans. What you see with Trump, is what you get.

Peoples lives were at stake when Obama was President. In fact Obama is responsible for more deaths under his watch (counting foriegn policy).

Want to know what Obama really thought of Trump?

From the book - The Making Of Barack Obama by David J Garrow

“[Americans have] a continuing normative commitment to the ideals of individual freedom and mobility, values that extend far beyond the issue of race in the American mind. The depth of this commitment may be summarily dismissed as the unfounded optimism of the average American— I may not be Donald Trump now, but just you wait; if I don't make it, my children will.”

The reason why Trump is despised, is because he beat the politicans at their own game without any experience, backing, etc - just his personality and him speaking his mind (whether one agrees with him or not). The same people who control Washington, are those who control the media. They got beat.

Now the same media is rising against Trump, and the same media has lefty loons abroad doing the job for them too. (See OP).

I cannot wait for the Trump v Biden debates. That is if Biden participates.

Honestly, defending McClain? The guy who wanted to bomb Iraq to dust? The power of brainwashing.

Yup, and there is a clear cut video evidence of him suggesting to drink disinfectant. Stupid thing to say no doubt. No one can deny he said it. Unlike the quotes in the OP.

I will defend objectivity, and if defending 'Trump' comes under this aim then so be it. If it is pointless to defend him, then so too is it pointless to attack a US president who has little or no bearing to the rest of the world. I think we can agree on one point, and that is Trump is not a warmongering President.

Man I like Trump but your logic is so annoying

1 who gives a flying you know what if he is entertaining
Kanye west is ten times the entertainer but how is it helping the US

2 Tupac did an interview where he said everyone wants to be like Trump the reason was trump built a persona of being rich and flamboyant so wanting to be like Trump doesn't exactly mean that they want his personality it just meant they want to be rich like him (kinda like Galioth where it's more of a figurtive speech than actually being "Galioth")
So what Obama meant was that every american wanted to be rich (had nothing to do with trump it was a figurtive speech) :genius

Obama was an A grade a***** no doubt but that doesn't mean Trump can go round talking smack about our fallen heroes and we give him a pass because he is "entertaining" :trump

This thread has opened my eyes. Apparently being a USA president is entertainment cliche. Long gone are the boring presidents. Lets make entertainment our reason of choosing one president.

The guy definitely says things for attention. People have gotten used to him by now.

US President Donald Trump is facing a backlash over reports he mocked American soldiers killed in action as "losers" and "suckers".

The alleged remarks were first reported in the Atlantic magazine, and some details were corroborated by the Associated Press and Fox News.

But the president and his allies have denied he made the remarks.

Veterans' groups were among those who attacked the president over the reports.

Progressive group VoteVets posted a video of families whose children were killed in action. "You don't know what it is to sacrifice," says one.

Paul Rieckhoff of the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America, tweeted: "Who is really surprised by this?"

Analysts say the comments could prove damaging with the president needing support from military voters as he bids for re-election.

What is Trump reported to have said?
According to The Atlantic, Mr Trump cancelled a visit to a US cemetery outside Paris in 2018 because he said it was "filled with losers".

Four sources told the magazine he rejected the idea of visiting because the rain would dishevel his hair, and he did not believe it important to honour America's war dead.

During the same trip, the president also allegedly referred to 1,800 US soldiers who died at Belleau Wood as "suckers". The battle helped to prevent a German advance on Paris during World War One and is venerated by the US Marine Corps.

In 2018 the White House said the visit was cancelled because bad weather had grounded the president's helicopter. This account was backed up in a recent book by President Trump's former National Security Adviser John Bolton, who has been a vocal critic of Mr Trump.

The Atlantic's reporting was based on anonymous sources but the Associated Press said it had independently confirmed many of the remarks. A Fox News correspondent said she had corroborated some of the remarks.

What has the reaction been?
On top of the comments from veterans, President Trump's challenger in November's presidential election, Joe Biden, responded by saying his rival was "unfit" to lead.

"If the article is true - and it appears to be, based on other things he's said - it is absolutely damning. It is a disgrace."

Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth, a veteran who lost both legs while serving in Iraq, said President Trump "liked to use the US military for his own ego".

Khizr Khan, the father of a US soldier killed in Iraq who criticised Mr Trump during the 2016 Democratic convention, joined Ms Duckworth on the call.

He said: "When Donald Trump calls anyone who places their lives in service of others a loser, we understand Trump's soul."

President Trump has pushed back hard against the reports, calling them "fake news".

"To think that I would make statements negative to our military and our fallen heroes when nobody's done what I've done with the budgets, with the military budgets, with getting pay raises for our military," he said. "It is a disgraceful situation by a magazine that's a terrible magazine."

Speaking to reporters on Friday, he suggested the source of the story was his former White House chief of staff, John Kelly. Mr Trump said the former US Marine general "was unable to handle the pressure of this job".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Fox News on Friday morning he was with the president for a good part of the trip to France and never heard him use the words described in the article.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper was quoted by Politico as saying Mr Trump had "the highest respect and admiration for our nation's military members, veterans and families", though the Pentagon chief did not explicitly deny the story.

Another former White House chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, and former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders were among those in Mr Trump's orbit who rejected the story as false.

Where do Trump and the US military stand?
The US president has often staked claim to strong support among the military, and Pew Research Center last year found that veterans were generally supportive of him as commander-in-chief, with 57% in favour. Three-fifths of the veterans identified as Republican, the research found.

But there have been previous spats and controversies.

He caused outrage by saying the late Senator John McCain, a prisoner of war in Vietnam, was not a "war hero" saying: "I like people who weren't captured."

LOL so no response to two administration officials going on the record confirming the story as expected. Taylor took that call about McCain himself.

Anyway keep on hurling puerile insults like "lefty loon" - only shows your family values and class to everyone here.

I gave you a response. Come back when there is emprical evidence of what he said. Hear'say doesn"t cut the mustard and neither does Trump"s opinion of McClain.

Your class is known, subsidised liberal mouthpiece peddling lies and unsubstantiated information.

What is so annoying about my logic? Let me be clear, after 2016, I realised politics is a mugs game, espcially for voters in the UK. In the end money is the only factor that makes a difference. I gave up on taking a deep interest in politics and decided to view politics through an entertainment lens - atleast have a laugh about it!

Do I support Trump the politican? No. Do I support Trump's policies? Do I care about the issues in USA? No. But do I enjoy the left looney liberals getting riled up and triggered? YES!

The Left are the real illness in society and must be flushed out. Cancel culture, attempt to overturn democracy, subsidised mouthpieces, woke culture, peddling lies, taking offence at everything - they will stoop to any level by any means nessacary because they are the worst possible losers in society because they cannot graciously accept defeat. There is a reason why Liberals have failed in politics, it's because they never win.

Anyone or anything that stands against the Lefty looney liberals will 100% get my support, for the sheer comical value in seeing the liberals implode.

I forgot to add, it is due to the looney left's reluctance to aceept defeat that the Democrats squandered almost 4 years in trying to remove Trump from office -almost 4 years - and FAILED.

The result? Biden. Near 80 year old who clearly has cognitive issues, is the front runner for Democrats, and if Trump wins again, the looney left will blame 'Russia'. 😆

President Trump has never served in uniform. He received five deferments from a military draft during the Vietnam War - four for academic reasons and one for bone spurs, a calcium build-up in the heels.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-54034707

So not only did this alledged event take place 2 years ago, but we all know this stunt is in response to Nancy Polosi getting caught hook line and sinker with her trip to the hair dresser breaking C19 rules. Hence the democrats resorting to an event which took place 2 years ago in attempt to change the news cycle.

I gave you a response. Come back when there is emprical evidence of what he said. Hear'say doesn"t cut the mustard and neither does Trump"s opinion of McClain.

Cute that you respond within minutes. You must have a very active social life !

I repeat, Miles Taylor, Chief of Staff at Trump's DHS TOOK THE CALL HIMSELF re: McCain. He isn't a liberal but a Trump appointee. Trump is on video trashing McCain's service. AP, WaPo and Fox News (not a liberal rag last time I checked) have also corroborated the story.

As for anonymous sources, look I agree they should go on the record. It's cowardly after all these scandals they refuse to take a stand. However I'd have more sympathy for Trump's defence if he hadn't used anonymous sources himself in the past:

Screenshot_20200905-100404_Twitter~01.jpg

And just last week Trump makes another unfounded claim based on an anonymous source:

TRUMP: "A person was on a plane, said there were about 6 people like that person, more or less, and what happened is the entire plane filled up with the looters, the anarchists, rioters, people looking for trouble. The person felt very uncomfortable on the plane." pic.twitter.com/VP0idEzLNi
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 1, 2020

Trump supporters are willing to believe these claims without a shred of evidence yet squealing for evidence for stories against Commander Bone Spurs is rich !

Your class is known, subsidised liberal mouthpiece peddling lies and unsubstantiated information
I think your hero is a professional at lying, fabricating and spreading falsehoods - injecting disinfectants cures COVID, Hydroxychloroquine is a cure for COVID, doctors and nurses are selling PPE on the black market, the list is endless.

Also I think everyone can see your class that despite 190K Americans dying on Trump's watch, you support Trump for "entertainment".

That my friends, sums up Trump's supporters in a nutshell.

Oh no, more tweets, more character assasination! But no evidence of the stunt in the OP. The best retort - you are a Trump supporter!

Typical lefty nonsense. Gutter class still struggling to cite evidence of an event that took place 2 years ago.

Fascists the lot of them.

Don't belive the hype.

Trump is not responsible for the death of 190K people under C19.

Trump wanted to ban flights from China in February, but couldn't because you guessed it - the lefty looney liberals declared Trump a racist for doing so. The same for the UK.

Even if you grant the notion Trump was responsible, using this lefty logic, Obama was responsible for millions of deaths. McClain, the warmongering candidate deserved to lose, otherwise more would've died under him.

The cancer that is liberalism must be wiped out of society, and with it, the lefty lies and cries!

This thread has opened my eyes. Apparently being a USA president is entertainment cliche. Long gone are the boring presidents. Lets make entertainment our reason of choosing one president.

Trump did have his own show called The Apprentice. He was an entertainer long before a politican. The voters voted for an entertainer in the USA, and my word, they got it.

4 more years!

Trump ALLEGEDLY said that. Allegation doesn't make it true. Another hit job by the anti Trump creatures.

Trump ALLEGEDLY said that. Allegation doesn't make it true. Another hit job by the anti Trump creatures.

This is the plight of the left. Markor (and his left ilk) are the first people to call one racist if they voted Brexit. The first to call one mysoginst if you dont agree their view of women. The first to call you a traitor if you don't support the Liberals. Yet he weeps like a baby because he feels offended when he is labelled the lefty loon. Tough, deal with it fascists!

Challenge every lefty loon liberal you meet. In real life or PP. They are nothing but hot air, front, and sheep.

As one can see, all I asked for is evidence of the OP, and Markor doesn't have it - 48 hours on, he knows it deep down - he is in damage control mode.

I can double dog guarantee Markor didn't even realise the story is related to an incident in 2018. This is the depth of liberal brainwashing; the liberals cannot think for themselves. Remember the left support the Democrats, the original Slave traders!

Dont be fooled by the big words, flowery language, and hymns of paragraphs from the looney left. Verify every information and put these lefty loons to task.

If Markor presented this evidence in court, not only would the CPS throw him out, but he would be condemned for an eternity.

He knows it, the lefty loon liberals know it, and every man and his dog knows it.

A non loony-left journalist says it happened, and the President now wants them fired :)))

Trump calls for Fox News journalist to be fired for report on war dead scandal

The row over Donald Trump’s alleged remarks denigrating American soldiers has now seen the US president target one of his core areas of support as he called for a Fox News journalist who reported details of the scandal to be fired.

The Atlantic magazine published a story which described how Trump said he cancelled a visit to pay respects at an American military cemetery outside Paris in 2018 because he thought the dead soldiers were “losers” and “suckers”. Other outlets confirmed the news and detailed more incidents of Trump’s insulting attitude to American soldiers.

Among those was the Fox News national security correspondent, Jennifer Griffin, who confirmed in a Twitter thread that Trump called soldiers “suckers”, had questioned why anyone would want to become a soldier and had not wanted to honor war dead at the Aisne-Marne cemetery in France.

Amid furious denials of the story from the White House and Trump allies, Griffin’s reporting probably touched a nerve as it came from the usually reliably pro-Trump Fox News, whose conservative leanings and pro-Trump opinion show hosts are reliable cheerleaders for the president.

In a tweet Trump said: “Jennifer Griffin should be fired for this kind of reporting. Never even called us for comment. Fox News is gone!”

The White House has moved to deny the report unusually forcefully perhaps fearful of the scandal’s impact on military-supporting conservatives. Trump himself dismissed it as a politically motivated “hoax”.

“There is nobody feels more strongly about our soldiers, our wounded warriors, our soldiers that died in war than I do,” he told reporters at the White House on Friday. “It’s a hoax,” he said on Friday night.

The first lady, Melania Trump, also weighed in, in a rare political intervention tweeting that the Atlantic story “was not true”.

Trump’s Democratic challenger, former vice-president Joe Biden, pounced on the news amid broad-ranging condemnation of Trump’s reported remark. Biden called the alleged comments “disgusting” and said Trump was “not fit to be commander-in-chief”.

“When my son volunteered and joined the United States military – and went to Iraq for a year, won the Bronze Star and other commendations, he was not a sucker,” Biden said in emotional remarks in Wilmington, Delaware.

His son Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015, deployed to Iraq in 2008.

The Guardian! As loony as you can get! 😆 😆 😆😆

I agree. The lefty loons should be fired for reporting lies.

“When my son volunteered and joined the United States military – and went to Iraq for a year, won the Bronze Star and other commendations, he was not a sucker,” Biden said in emotional remarks in Wilmington, Delaware.

Agree, he was not a sucker, but a bell-end sheep who bought into the lies of the Iraq war while his father was at the helm of politics.

Do not fall for this sob story. This very son of Biden didn't care about killing innocent lives in Iraq.

Rot in hell.

US President Donald Trump has described as a "slimeball" a journalist who quoted him as saying dead US soldiers were "losers" and "suckers".

He likened the Atlantic magazine report to unproven accusations made against him of colluding with Russia to win the presidential election of 2016.

The damning quotes were confirmed independently by The Associated Press.

Veterans' groups are among those condemning Mr Trump, less than two months from the 2020 election.

Progressive group VoteVets posted a video of families whose children had been killed in action. "You don't know what it is to sacrifice," says one.

Paul Rieckhoff of the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America, tweeted: "Who is really surprised by this?"

A small group of protesters waved placards at the president's motorcade on Saturday near the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.

Mr Trump has often staked a claim to strong support among the military, and last year Pew Research Center found that veterans were generally supportive of him as commander-in-chief, with 57% in favour. Three-fifths of the veterans identified as Republican, the research found.

What is Trump reported to have said?

According to The Atlantic, when Mr Trump cancelled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery outside Paris in November 2018, 100 years after the end of World War One, he said it was "filled with losers".

Four sources told the magazine he had rejected the idea of visiting because the rain would dishevel his hair, and he did not believe it important to honour America's war dead.

During the same trip, the president also allegedly referred to 1,800 US soldiers who died at Belleau Wood as "suckers". The battle helped to prevent a German advance on Paris during World War One and is venerated by the US Marine Corps.

The Atlantic's reporting was based on anonymous sources but a "senior Defense Department official with first-hand knowledge of events" and a "senior U.S. Marine Corps officer who was told about Trump's comments" confirmed the cemetery comments to AP.

In 2018 the White House said the cemetery visit had been cancelled because bad weather had grounded the president's helicopter. This account was backed up in a recent book by President Trump's former national security adviser, John Bolton, who has been a vocal critic of Mr Trump.

The US Navy also said it cancelled the trip to the cemetery because of rain in response to a request under the Freedom of Information Act from Buzzfeed reporter Jason Leopold.

How did Trump react?

Without referring to Jeffrey Goldberg, the author of the Atlantic report, by name, he tweeted on Saturday: "You work so hard for the military, from completely rebuilding a depleted mess that was left by OBiden [the previous presidential administration when Joe Biden was vice-president to Barack Obama], to fixing a broken V.A. and fighting for large scale military pay raises, and then a slimeball reporter, maybe working with disgruntled people, makes up such a horrible charge.."

"This reminds me of the Dirty Dossier [the Steele dossier which alleged collusion with Russia], which was pushed hard by John McCain, & then with a thud turned out to be a total fraud. So many other scams also. The Radical Far Left is VICIOUS, they will do or say anything to win. But they won't, we will WIN, & have four great years!"

Mr Trump went on to attack another journalist, Jennifer Griffin of Fox News, normally one of the president's favourite news outlets.

Griffin had reported disparaging remarks about the US military allegedly made by Mr Trump on other occasions such as calling soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War "suckers".

"Jennifer Griffin should be fired for this kind of reporting," Mr Trump tweeted. "Never even called us for comment. @FoxNews is gone!"

White House officials have either denied the remarks allegedly made on the trip to France or stressed the president's respect for the military.

What are Trump's opponents saying?
Mr Biden, the Democratic challenger in the 3 November election, said his rival was "unfit" to lead.

"Mr. President, if you don't respect our troops, you can't lead them," he tweeted.

If elected, he said, he would "ensure that our American heroes know that I will have their back and honor their sacrifice. Always."

I wrote inject not drink and its clear cut in a press confrence.

Defend who you like but defending this clown will only lose you all credibility as a sane voice in the long run.

Then add me to your ignore list to save you the insane voice. It's not that hard. You can carry on attacking who you want then. Simples.

Trump ALLEGEDLY said that. Allegation doesn't make it true. Another hit job by the anti Trump creatures.

Everyone understand what "Allegedly" mean.

It is looney chachas who wants evidence, I guess they do not understand the meaning of "Allegedly"

Is it likely Trump would've made such comments, very likely if you were to look at the recorded history of Trump's comments.

it is very likely that antifa and blm thugs would make such a statement disrespecting the fallen soldiers, not trump. Likely or not likely is stupid speculation and doesn't cut any mustard.

US President Donald Trump has demanded the Fox News network fire its national security correspondent after she confirmed claims he had disparaged the military - a bombshell that has dogged him for two days.

Trump came under fire after The Atlantic magazine reported he had called marines killed in action in the World War I "losers" and "suckers" in connection with a November 2018 visit to France in which he skipped a visit to a United States's military cemetery.

Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin on Saturday said two former administration officials had confirmed to her the president "did not want to drive to honour American war dead" at the Aisne-Marne cemetery outside Paris, implying weather was not a factor.

One official also told her Trump had used the word "suckers" to denigrate the military, but in a different context related to the Vietnam War.

"When the president spoke about the Vietnam War, he said, 'It was a stupid war. Anyone who went was a sucker'," she quoted the unnamed official as saying.

"It was a character flaw of the president. He could not understand why someone would die for their country, not worth it," the source said.

'Slimeball reporter'

Trump has furiously defended himself in the wake of the story in The Atlantic, tweeting and retweeting stories condemning it as "fake news".

"You work so hard for the military, from completely rebuilding a depleted mess that was left by OBiden, to fixing a broken V.A. and fighting for large scale military pay raises, and then a slimeball reporter, maybe working with disgruntled people, makes up such a horrible charge," a furious Trump tweeted on Saturday.

A day earlier, the US president had tweeted: "Jennifer Griffin should be fired for this kind of reporting. Never even called us for comment. @FoxNews is gone!"

According to The Atlantic, in a conversation with senior staff members, on the morning of the visit, Trump said: "Why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers."

The official explanation for that missed visit was bad weather.

The habitually Trump-friendly Fox News has been criticised for seemingly sidelining Griffin's reporting in its coverage of the story.

A story on its website on Saturday was headlined: "Sources dispute claim Trump nixed visit to military cemetery over disdain for slain veterans."

Several of Griffin's colleagues at Fox have publicly defended her on Twitter, along with Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger, who called her "fair and unafraid".

"I can tell you that my sources are unimpeachable," Griffin said on-air on her network on Saturday. "My sources are not anonymous to me and I doubt they are anonymous to the president."

Just before The Atlantic published its story, a poll by the Military Times and the Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families found that just 37.4 percent of active-duty personnel support Trump's re-election bid, while 43.1 percent back Joe Biden.

I don’t need reporters telling me what a low class of a human trump is. It is so evident . It’s out in the open. People here defending trump. He will throw you under a bus in a New York second if he could.
