In tweets Wednesday morning the president wrote: “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you”
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

15k transgender people working right now in Us army(googled),big job loss I would say.

I guess this is him fighting for them?

I don't see how you can justify this and still claim to fight for equality for the LGBT community.

Thoughts Adil_94?

Dear oh dear.

So take out 15,000 transgender people from the force which frees up jobs for the white folks of Ohio, i.e. his vote base.

I don't know if it's deliberate or accidental however every time Trump is facing some heat over a serious issue like healthcare or the whole Russian thing he tweets about or announces something less serious yet controversial which the media then lap up and the original issues are forgotten about for a while. Transgender rights are of course a legitimate issue however watch the media now go on and on and on about it while forgetting to hold Trump accountable for the bigger issues like healthcare reforms or his son in laws collusion with the Russians.

It's a distraction for sure BUT no matter what he throws out there main stream media will not stop reporting on Russia or Health Care.

What if the white folk of Ohio wanting jobs in the military are transgender?

@Cpt.Rishwat no surprise to see this behaviour from the buffoon that is Trump. The guy who claimed he was gonna protect LGBT Americans rights from the middle eastern hordes. Any one who actually thought that Trump cared about lgbt people was an idiot.

Clearly the timing of this is to distract people and the media from the ongoing russia investigation and the almost certain collusion that has gone on between members of Trumps administration and the Russian govt.

and the phainta his pathetic healthcare plan is getting im congress that is so right wing economically that it makes the Tories look like mother teresa.

He only cares for himself and making money thats it.

Thats why he bent the knee for King Salman and the big gold chain he gave him.

He knows this will get controversy worldwide headlines and will cool the heat for a while on the failure of his healthcare plan and the corruption n collusion in his election campaign.

His rabid and bigoted base will lap this up. Trump literally said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose his core supporters.

It would be easy to pass this off as another Trump brain fade, but I am wondering what the military view is on this. Could he really attempt to push through this sort of legislation without their input?

@Cpt.Rishwat he claims to have consulted with his military advisers and generals before making this statement if u have a right wing military leadership. as military does tend to be more conservative then he could have their backing. im guessing this is purely to create media drama and a new circus.

A 2016 Rand Corp. study commissioned by the Defense Department concluded that letting transgender people serve openly would have a "minimal impact" on readiness and health care costs, largely because there are so few in the military's 1.3 million-member force.
The study put the number of transgender people in the military between 1,320 and 6,630.

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/07/26/politics/trump-military-transgender/index.html
Big difference between 15,000 and something between 1,320 and 6,630. But wait, .... I forgot. CNN is one of the FAKE NEWS media outlets.

I don't see any problem with it. Transgender people are terribly ill in their minds.

Rayyman theres 15k trans soldiers in the U.S army who have managed to serve the country fine despite their "mental illness".

this is just a way to appease the bigots in the GOP and also other bigots it seems who are normally against Trump but are fine when LGBT people are discriminated against.

It's not about them, it's the fact that they are not normal and this affects the people and around them. Also, as stated above, there are large costs associated with them and this is detrimental towards the economy of the military.

Rayyman it only affects people around them if they are bigoted towards trans people and cant handle it. working with a transgender person shouldnt affect u at all if u believe in the principle of equality and frankly if u arent just a tool. If they can do the job properly then whether they are transgender or not is irrelevant.

so now all of a sudden it has become about finances. its clear that Trump is clearly using this as a smokescreen to deter from the russia allegations and his failed healthcare plan.

appealing to the most bigoted sections of American society.

Almost certain? Are you privy to the classified details of the ongoing investion?

Also, you seem to have ignored that this isn't Trump's decision alone. It is obvious that this policy involves the consent from several military advisors.

Posting part of a comment from reddit about why they might not be allowed to serve:

(1) Health concerns, both mental and physical, impacting the ability of the individual to serve fully. There is a high incidence of depression and suicide in pre-operational transgender individuals. (Wikipedia notes that this statistic is less in post-operational transgender individuals). Also, complications from hormonal treatment may include cardiovascular issues, renal disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, etc...

(2) Cost of the surgery, which is approximately $7,000-$24,000 for MTF and approximately $50,000 for FTM.

(3) Low morale and poor cohesion of the unit may result if cis and trans members are uncomfortable sharing living quarters and working closely.

Sachin136 there are thousands of trans soldiers who are servinv in the U.S military who are competent soldiers. who obviously undergo strict medical and psychological evaluations.

whats next people feel uncomfortable with a gay colleague or a muslim one their bigotry should be accomodated.
Trumps son released emails that showed he was willing to collude with the Russians during the election. The evidence is there that his team had illegal contacts with the russians.
Trump is clearly doing this to distract away from his problems and appeal to the bigoted Christian right wing.

if youre good enough n can do the job then being transgender shouldnt matter.
this is a ban on all transgenders including those who have already had surgery and transitioned.

I don't see any problem with it. Transgender people are terribly ill in their minds.

I don't particularly disagree with this decision, but this is just rubbish. There are many transgender people who are perfectly fine.

Stop acting as if you guys know more than the Generals and Military experts .

Good decision.

Would be disgusted to serve along with a bunch of Hijdas.

Disappointing decision, and totally discriminatory.

The US deep state continues to be in full control of President Trump, who has probably never even met a transgender person and would not have an opinion about the matter either way.

As long as Trump continues to parrot away at his redneck rallies and self-destruct at the microphone before making spectacular political recoveries over Twitter later in the week - and the cycle beginning all over again the next week - he will continue to think that he has this President job thing down to a tee. (And will then tee off @ one of his numerous golf courses every Sunday afternoon.)

In the meantime the senior politicians in DC, the military leaders, and the corporate supercapitalists / financial bigwigs in New York will continue to be the people who actually run America.

So much so that I would not be surprised to see Trump easily sail through to the end of a second term. At least he is a known quantity, a useful idiot. He has no thoughts of his own beyond Melania, baseball and cheeseburgers. He is like any other lame duck President, except this time the duck has ADHD and epilepsy.

Better not complain when that Muslim ban comes around then.

Someone will surely say...

"Would be disgusted to serve along with a bunch of towel heads."

Always love it when Mindless Liberalism gets defeated in the WEST. Gold.

Upto third world countries to follow the same route instead of debating if we should include trannies since USA does so.

Are there transgenders in the Pakistan army?.

What is the reasoning of these generals? Esp the 'disruption' part?

Colin Powell was right when he said that the modern Republican Party is defined by the "dark vein of intolerance" that runs all the way through it.

Sad to see the party of Lincoln now trying to take America back to the 1950s - discrimination against minorities, inaccessible healthcare, greater economic inequality, a soft undercurrent of white supremacism.

There have even been rumours that they will call for a revisiting of Roe v Wade and roll back abortion rights, but not sure Trump will have time to do so now - given the constant chaos that follows him around.

Shame on anyone who supports this decision.

Shaming tactics by the Liberals - keep repeating this infinite times before people develop the guilt for the decision. Loads of White Americans have welcomed this decision and they surely don't care about the opinion of soft countries like UK or Sweden.

Can you supply a link to where loads of white Americans have welcomed this decision or is this just a racist rant against whites.

Which white Americans? And why does the opinion of white Americans matter more than other Americans?

BTW I am not a Liberal. I'm just not a bigot.

Well now we know the "real" reason to why he announced this ban:

Trump reportedly banned transgender troops for 74 miles of border wall https://t.co/T23TztGr9U pic.twitter.com/F6DPU5OF6M
— Newsweek (@Newsweek) July 26, 2017

LOOOOOOL @ The reason!! 'Medical costs' AHHAAHHAHAH!! This is the country that has a military budget bigger than the next few countries combined in the world and it doesn't have the money to cover the costs!? Spare me the b/s.

Gilly,
If I may.
From a personal perspective, I've seen enough Trump Rallies, both leading up to the elections and since he became President, to see the kind of people that do support Trump.

Of course not everyone should be tarnished with the same brush and there are millions and millions of good folk who support Trump. BUT there is one thing I have noticed and that is all the people the people with white supremacist views are ardent supporters of Trump.

From documentaries such as Ross Kemp's Extreme World, you can see that groups such as the KKK are fully behind Trump.

Whatever you think of Trump.. a business genius, a lucky some of s multi millionaire, an oaf... whatever it is.. one thing that can't be denied is that Trump knows his voter base and has done nothing to distance himself from the extremist elements..

The devil is always in the detail, transgenders can join the forces and then have the very expensive gender reassignment surgery paid for by the military and then leave. Banning them is not the solution and they will need to find a better way to deal with the problem.

What is the reasoning of these generals? Esp the 'disruption' part?

I think the Generals realize that Military is no place for Social Experiments.

It is no place for the people that can't figure out something so basic as to which gender they are, or they've managed to convince themselves they're women when they're really men (or the reverse), what else would they be confused about?

I didn't know that. But that just shows the state of affairs. People can't afford health care in the country so they find other avenues to surgery. Can't blame them.

If they've been fighting for the forces for years then it shouldn't matter. Im sure they know how to pick up a weapon and use it.

This Reddit poster doesn't seem to be aware that the Pentagon last year already estimated the costs of allowing transgenders to serve and found them to be minimal.

Which is not surprising given how few of them do serve in the military.

Trumps tweets contain very little detail.

I'm not blaming them, this is the reason that this decision has been made by the military, it was a military decision and they have requested this rule. Bigots just jumped on the hate Trump wagon as usual before even knowing what they were talking about. But that's how uneducated people react.

If they've been fighting for the forces for years then it shouldn't matter. Im sure they know how to pick up a weapon and use it.

Obama allowed the ban to stay in place for 7 years of his presidency. It was a wrong decision taken under the pressure from the PC Brigade and needs to be corrected.

Should Australia do the same ?

Im just trying to understand the reasoning. Gay, lesbians can be seen as confused to some but who cares as long as they can complete their training and show the ability for combat.

Is there any evidence to suggest transgender people cannot be good combatants?

By the government in consultation with the military.

The tweets

The implementation policy has to be worked out, she said when asked if troops on battlefields would be immediately sent back to the United States.

This was "a military decision" said Mrs Sanders, adding that it is "not meant to be anything more than that".
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40729996

That's all it was, right or wrong and I know that some people need to have their daily rant against Trump and make sure they somehow get to call him a white supremacist and call Americans bigots. Just imagine if we talked about other races like posters do on this forum about white Americans. Hypochrites springs to mind.

What Trump has no influence on me, I dont support or hate him. Just because people hate him is not justification for bigotry. You cant hate on him for discrimination against transgenders yet discriminate against transgenders yourself. Remember only Britain, Australia and Israel allow transgenders to serve in the military.

Correction on that, several other countries do
Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden

I live in Aus and support Transgenders against discrimination for the most part. But I don't have much experience of the military either so I am not completely education on the topic. But I just found the justification of 'medical costs' complete b/s. Alas you pointed out that they abuse the military benefits so maybe it is the right decision.

if the country with the highest military spending on weaponry than the next 10 nations combined cant afford to pay for transitioning soldiers surgery then fine.

Then dont pay for the surgery. But banning all transgenders is a pathetic decision.

I dont know if the decision is right or wrong, sometimes there is no right or wrong and its just a decision. I do know that its not a simple medical procedure where they have an operation one day and back to work the next, there is months of therapy and adjustments. Fellow servicemen would have to be very understanding and as pointed out this would entail every serviceman being educated on the issue. The entire armed forces would have to be educated on how to intergrate and treat them. The whole process would be a massive strain on everyone including the transgenders. I'm not saying they should not be allowed to serve but they need to fit into the service and not expect the service to move its focus for their sake. In time I think it has to happen, once everyone is ready.

Everyone seem's to be blind to the big elephant in the room.
Like it or not, there is a certain type of individual that gets attracted to joining the rank and file, ie the cannon fodder, of the military. There is a significant element of initiation ceremonies and various other 'macho' practices that are central to team building and team bonding amongst this group who have volunteered to kill or be killed if the need arises.

They are not your typical cross sections of society. As can be seen by the backgrounds of the majority of the lower ranks versus the majority of those of higher/officer ranks.

Now before anyone starts jumping up and down in a rush to criticise me, ask yourself how the presence of a former female, but now male, or a male soon to become a female, will affect the whole dynamics of this group of (primarily) 'straight' macho men (I'm talking about the lower ranks). At least having an out and out female, as opposed to someone in the process of becoming one, or vice versa, means that there is a clear line as to who is female and who is male.

So don't try and equate members of mainstream society, and their day-to-day lives, with military personnel, the lives they lead, and their unique role in society.

Let's be serious and stop trying to justify his decision.

The only reason he change the law is to please his voter bank. Anyone trying to justify it otherwise, well, his voter bank.

$ 8.4 million is a chump change for US military.

US is a conservative country compare to rest of the western world. And orange tinted man think passing such laws will help him re-elect.

Don't see anything wrong with pleasing the Voter Bank if that's what the people want.

Nothing wrong with being a conservative country either.

World is diverse and doesn't need to be run to satisfy standards set by some Liberals.

Pocket change or not, some people think even one extra dollar is not worth spending to enlist some misfits and confused people into the Army.

lol @ desis getting mad at Trump for this. At least this would make sense if hijras were serving in India and Pak militaries.

I'm in agreement with the observation that many hardcore Trump detractors (e.g. George Takei, Louise Mensch) will scour the Internet daily for any possible negative story about him and force it on everyone else; I also agree that this is obsessive and wrong.

However Trump deserves the backlash this time. He absolutely should not be allowed to escape criticism for this. A cheap and cruel move.

I agree nothing wrong with it but people need to stop spinning it other way.

That is an opinion, but if he can spend $ 54 million on playing golf so far then 84 million is nothing to accommodate every American citizen.

The difference is that western countries are self proclaimed bearer of justice and equality whereas desi countries are just desi.

His decision does seem bigoted, medical cost is just an excuse to legitimize this decision. It shouldn't affect our ability to bring freedom to rest of the world and waste ton of money though.

Exactly.

I hate it when liberal people think that their views are the best and anything with a hint of conservatism is considered "backwards" by them.

This is what I was thinking. I wonder how much of the decision is down to hetero males being uncomfortable sharing sleeping quarters with the LGBT types?
