Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday called for Islamic countries to unite against what he described as "the growing threat of expansionism" from Israel.

His comments followed reports from Palestinian and Turkish officials about the killing of a 26-year-old Turkish-American woman by Israeli troops. She was participating in a protest on Friday against settlement expansion in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

According to a report by news agency Reuters, Erdogan, while speaking at an event organised by an Islamic schools' association near Istanbul, said, "The only way to halt Israeli arrogance, banditry, and state terrorism is through the alliance of Islamic countries." He also noted that Turkey’s recent efforts to strengthen ties with Egypt and Syria were aimed at "creating a line of solidarity" against this expansionist threat, which he claimed also endangers Lebanon and Syria.

Erdogan’s remarks followed his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Ankara earlier this week, where they discussed the ongoing Gaza conflict and explored ways to continue improving their long-strained relationship. This visit marked the first presidential meeting between the two nations in 12 years, following Turkey’s broader diplomatic initiative that began in 2020 to mend relations with regional rivals, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Erdogan also mentioned his willingness to invite Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for talks aimed at restoring ties between Turkey and Syria, which were severed in 2011 following the outbreak of the Syrian civil war.

Israel did not immediately respond to Erdogan’s statements, as per Reuters.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed it was investigating the death of the US-Turkish woman Aysenur Ezgi Eygi on Friday, stating it was reviewing the circumstances that led to her getting shot.

The United Nations has also demanded a "full investigation" into the killing of the foreign national.

Eygi was reportedly shot by Israeli forces while participating in a demonstration against Jewish settlement expansion in Beita, near Nablus. Eygi’s family and the US have called for an independent inquiry. The US has expressed deep concern and urged Israel to provide more details and conduct a thorough investigation. The UN has also emphasised the need for accountability and protection of civilians.

Erdogan says these things to make it look like he is doing something.

He just like the Americans are helpless when Israeli killed one of theirs.

The Americans pretend to wait for an investigation. Erdogan pretends to make an alliance against Israel.

In reality nothing will happen.

Erdogan should speak with the Pakistani PM on the matter.

Muslim leaders only declaration to unite can beat the jinx out of Israel. But unfortunately they can't even do this.

wasn't that what led to the current intractable mess? arabs/muslims uniting on 48, arabs/muslims uniting in 67 and arabs/muslims uniting again in 73

Erdogan making such statements as he don’t want Iran, a shia nation to lead in a Palestine war against Israel…. Erdogan wants to show that Sunni nation like Turkey can lead in a Palestine nation against Israel.

After this appeal from Erdogan, Arab nation will never join such war escalated by Hamas terrorists. Arab nations are more interested in keeping business ties with westerners. Even Turkey can’t join this war because they are heavily depend on tourism

Islamic alliance? The only Islamic country that is worth anything is Pakistan because of its nuclear weapons. Others either have a joke of a military or depend on West for all their weapons.

Turkey is a sinking ship. Erdogan like a typical politician creating smoke screen to divert the attention from its struggling economy.

Like iran- Erdogan is all words and no action. He is "calling " for all Islamic countries to unite lol ! His words mean nothing and nobody cares what he says. He is just full of air and no substance. The Islamic ummah is nowhere to be seen here I guess - all words and nothing in practice

This is all talk and talk show atm. No real steps have been taken by any Muslim nation so far.
