TV ratings and attendances for Pakistan Tests in Australia

In other words, this is the sort of excuse a mediocre team would come up with to hide the flaws of their team.

Did you even read my posts?

Test has never been forte of Pakistan in terms of viewing. Even when Imran Khan, Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar were playing, the stadiums would still be empty especially at home. That hasn't changed even today.

And what other sports are pakistan good at now? hockey? last I checked india are world number 4.
Pakistan are like 13th.
Pakistan never dominated cricket at any time apart from the period under imran khan.
They did dominate in hockey. India too dominated the Olympics in the past in hockey.

Clearly you are not familiar with Pakistan history when it comes to sport. When Pakistan was dominating whether in squash, hockey, and many other sports in the past, the viewership wasn't that great. Even with the participating of Wasim-Waqar, Imran, Akhtar...etc, that hasn't changed. Pakistan as nation cannot fetch similar enthusiasm as India does since India regards cricket as religion while cricket is just stupid sport for Pakistan just like hockey and many other sports. Not big deal.

It has nothing to do with the competency or winning ratio. Even when Pakistan was dominating India in both formats during 80s to 90s in wide margin unopposed, Pakistan wasn't fetching viewership as India would because of its billion numbers and its obsession with cricket. Win or lose, cricket is religion in India. And when you account for billions who have nothing better thing to do other than staying glued to the television to watch cricket, naturally you would have billions in growing revenue. Even Australia and England doesn't fetch that number and they prioritize test cricket. And yet they lag way behind because for them, Ashes is only important. India is just billion-numbers for England and Australia.

No one watches all 5 days. I am not from india. I live in Australia. I don't have time to watch all 5 days. I just watch on the weekends if it's interesting. I can't speak for India's. You probably have to confirm with Indians. Indians in india probably don't have time to watch all 5 days either. I am sure with their busy schedule of study, work, family, tuition, sport, clubbing life they won't quite have time either.

Of course, you don't have time or watch sport all five days. I believe you.... *wink* *wink*

Only India, Australia and England watch all five days. Australia and England does because of Ashes. Plus they love test format. Whereas India idolizes cricket as religion plus billion numbers indicate it is pretty much billions watching test cricket whereas you can't even get millions from Pakistan to watch test cricket. You would be lucky to find thousand viewers from Pakistan even if Imran-Wasim-Waqar were playing. Pakistan is not that lucrative market. Pakistan was in demand because of its skills in the past. West Indies was in the demands because of its skills in the past.

India is in demand and always has been since 80s because of billion numbers its provides and nothing more. Winning is just bonus if India does win. Win or lose, cricket means the worlds to India in terms of religiously speaking. India needs cricket.

Whereas for Pakistan, Pakistan lost interest on many sports in the past including hockey, and cricket won't be any different judging by the rate that is going on. If Pakistan loses cricket, it is not end of the worlds. Pakistan will move on as usual. But for India, it is end of the worlds. It is imperative that India does well in the sport that its billion population craves for.

And you can speak for India since you may have been Indian in previous life i am assuming. :jf

I don't know about Indians but I certainly don't have time to watch all 5 days. I watch it on the weekends. That's about it really. I don't even go to the stadium. I have kayo and Optus stream live.

yea fair enough. Well the world needs a strong pakistan. They did win the champions trophy after all. They need to improve in tests now. Otherwise big 3, n.z and south africa will probably play against each other.
Bangladesh love test cricket but they are just not good enough. Only pakistam have the skill to beat the best in the world after india in test cricket from Asian teams unless Afghanistan drastically Improve which they certainly could.

n.z and south africa will always play test cricket and I am certain S.A will bounce back stronger. They already have some fun bowlers lined up.

So now onus is on pakistan. Where is the next misbah. the next younis. We need them and we need those dudes playing for pakistan asap.

Pakistanis love cricket and if they dint there wouldnt be so many youtube channels, Tv shows and online radio talks about cricket lol. They love cricket as much as india. Viewership not being great is more to do with lack of money rather than interest.

Cricket is dying because of lack of competition from pak, Lanka and WI.

Gabba had poor turned up of 13K on opening day for both Srilanka n Pakistan. Full Seating capacity is 42K.

Last time when pak toured Gabba it had first day capacity of 26K.

When India toured Australia last time, it had 80% attendance for all test matches.

Boxing Day attendance is almost equal to ashes attendance.

Good cricket is always supported by people.

Acha ? How was it in 80's then? Aus only had competition from WI, Eng and probably little fight from Nz/ Pak.

How it it different now? Ind, Eng, Sa, Nz compete well rest not much.

yea maybe for the meidocre teams. All top teams fans watch their team play and know test cricket is real cricket.
India
australia
south africa
new zealand
England
even Bangladesh fans are crazy about test.
I am certain pakistan deep down care about it. I don't know. It's a shame if they don't because the world needs a strong pakistan.

hell Sri Lanka cares about test cricket.

The viewing firgurs in australia is still at an all time high for test cricket especially if a good team tours.

Haha most players in my club are Indians (which is also natural as they are so crazy about cricket)- for you it i kind of understand if you are a regular member of Pakistan fan forum you must be so crazy about cricket one of a kind so you will definitely watch it but for other fans test cricket is just about looking at the news. They care about their team winning in test format thats why they keep an eye out on results etc but they dont like the format themselves to watch it.

I don't know about Indians but I certainly don't have time to watch all 5 days. I watch it on the weekends. That's about it really. I don't even go to the stadium. I have kayo and Optus stream live.

Majority of foreigners in this forums are Indians because it is about cricket and only Indians care about cricket 24-hours. Nothing wrong in admitting that you are Indian since you cannot be Indian and be at this forums much like Indians scattered all over the places, youtube, whatnot.

yea fair enough. Well the world needs a strong pakistan. They did win the champions trophy after all. They need to improve in tests now. Otherwise big 3, n.z and south africa will probably play against each other.

The worlds don't need strong Pakistan and strong West Indies. Apart from the entertainment, dominants and whatnot, they couldn't provide the interest that could translate into revenue. Only now that Indians obsession with cricket which happens to be billions in numbers can translate into revenue regardless of whether they are good or not.

Strong West Indies team and strong Pakistan team in 80s and 90s didn't make that much of differences because the interest of watching cricket was much lower compared to now. They didn't make that much nor did their cricket boards and that accounts for television contract as well. If Pakistan and West Indies disappear from the facet of the cricketing worlds, it is not end of the worlds. But it is end of the worlds for India since cricket is only sport they can stay glued to the screen like religiously. For us aka Pakistan and the rest of worlds, it is just stupid sport much like hockey and soccer.

Ironically, soccer is gaining lots of trends and popularity in Pakistan even though Pakistan doesn't participate in that game whereas Pakistan garners lower interest in cricket that Pakistan actually participates and won Champion Trophy didn't make any difference. Sure, world cup is different story but in test format, forget about it. Test cricket died long time ago in Pakistan. and you can't just accept that it boils down to Eng/OZ, and India now in regards to test cricket. And Eng/OZ regards Ashes as important series while sees India as billion numbers. No offense.

n.z and south africa will always play test cricket and I am certain S.A will bounce back stronger. They already have some fun bowlers lined up.

Every teams play test format but that means nothing. If there is no viewership, then cricketers are not making money nor do their cricket boards. If they are not making money, then they will quit eventually. We are seeing reduced of test matches to accommodate limited formats that may garner some interests but not all. Eventually, there would be fewer test matches being played between OZ, Eng and India. And the side effects of big-3 has already started.

So now onus is on pakistan. Where is the next misbah. the next younis. We need them and we need those dudes playing for pakistan asap.

Why do you care when we Pakistanis don't? If test format dies, then good riddance. Nobody care. Good or bad, we Pakistanis don't care. You should stick to the format that you adore like religiously. :D

Pakistanis love cricket and if they dint there wouldnt be so many youtube channels, Tv shows and online radio talks about cricket lol. They love cricket as much as india. Viewership not being great is more to do with lack of money rather than interest.

If Pakistanis loved cricket, PCB would be making real money by now. Even in Pakistan during 90s with the superstars, PCB didn't made that much. The advent of Afridi has garnered some interest but that has also quickly died along with his retirement or his non-interest in test format.

As for youtube channels, there are few and happen to be overseas. You cannot generalize few youtube channels as the whole nation much like you cannot generalize robelinda as every Australians. And every Indians know who robelinda is. And that means you know him too.

Majority of them are Indians in youtube who are reviving Pakistan cricket in good and bad ways which is cry for help.

Drove me nut - took me while to figure out who robelinda is and why he is famous.

not just youtube channels. lol media coverage as well. Majority of them talk about cricket. I don't buy that pakistan isn't Interested in test cricket. Eshan mani clearly states otherwise.

Not my problem if pakistam don't pay their test players well.

Big 3 plus n.z pay their test players a high bade salary. Test cricket actually pays the highest across formats and it's the same for n.z and south africa.

Anyway I am punjabi. I never said I am not indian. I am an Australian born indian. So I have absolutely not clue about india. I am certain none of the Indians here on PP watch all 5 days.

Yes that's ok lol. Pakistan don't want to play test cricket. That's fine. They can stick to odi and t20. The money factor is an issue. I can understand why many are choosing t20 over other formats. To make quick bucks. Viewership is still high for cricket in most test nations but stadium attendances will be poor. I am not sure what contingency plan is in place but I hope they sort it out.

Test cricket needs to be saved.

this odi and t20 are rubbish formats. Doesn't test your endurance, power, ability to survive in difficult conditions, ability to face quality bowlers and your technique.

Yes it test power in t20 and odi but not to the extent of test where you would need to maintain the power for all 5 days.

not just youtube channels. lol media coverage as well. Majority of them talk about cricket. I don't buy that pakistan isn't Interested in test cricket. Eshan mani clearly states otherwise.

Every nations has channel dedicated to cricket. Apart from Indian and Eng/OZ, the rest of channels don't make that much. Hence cricket boards don't make that much and nor do cricketers. Clearly, you don't understand the economics despite of one side of your Indian-ness.

And Eshan is PCB cricket board's chariman. Do you expect him to see that we are not making money because our nation doesn't have time for watching cricket or doesn't care about cricket? He is diplomatic by nature so he will try to be one.

There is no money on Pakistan cricket. Hence PSL is desperate tactics to revive Pakistan cricket. But that also means end of Test format which is in effects as we speak.

Majority of Pakistanis watch cricket? It is more like overseas Pakistanis and even then, it is probably thousands if you are lucky. That is why test cricketers from Pakistan complains about not being paid enough compared to t20 cricketers in t20 leagues. Why do you think Amir and Wahab quit Test format?

There is nothing in test format. If nation doesn't like test format, then PCB must move on to the pointless t20 that brings some revenue - albeit not on similar revenue as Indian cricket board and Eng/OZ [Ashes].

Not my problem if pakistam don't pay their test players well.

Why should Pakistan pay test players well? If there is no demand for test format in Pakistan, then why compensate for it? It is called demand and supply. Time to move on and stick to the pointless t20 where the demand is. Pakistan loves t20 albeit not in similar enthusiasm as billion Indians do as the revenue speaks for it.

Big 3 plus n.z pay their test players a high bade salary. Test cricket actually pays the highest across formats and it's the same for n.z and south africa.

I gave you explanation on big-3 as to why they are big 3. For England and Australia, it is Ashes, and for India, it is billion numbers to England and Australia. The rest of them are not even close. Ironically, New Zealand and African players don't make as much as Pakistani test cricketers do at least. Nitni, the former premier fast bowler aka legend of Africa cricket is now bankrupt because he didn't have enough for the retirement. Hence many African players are retiring soon and considering kolpak deal [county]. Pretty soon South Africa will become like West Indies - t20 mercenary. Pakistan is headed to the same way.

The only nation that has shown interest consistently throughout the era even before emergence as cricketing nation is Bangladesh. And no one cares about Bangladesh as big-3 made clear on it. Plus bangladesh is not lucrative for them either.

Anyway I am punjabi. I never said I am not indian. I am an Australian born indian. So I have absolutely not clue about india. I am certain none of the Indians here on PP watch all 5 days.

Indians outnumber Pakistanis in Pakistani forums like this and many others. And they are the one who watch five whole days. They are the one who keeps PakPassion active hence the policy towards Indians in this forum is very flexible.

Only Indians watch five days matches like staying glued to the screen. The result speaks for it. The revenue speaks for it. BCCI is billion-dollars brand for reasons. Only Indians are sucker for five-days test matches as you being are the proof why you are in Pakistani forum obsessing with Pakistan cricket at this moment while Pakistan is playing Australia even though there is no India team involved.

Don't be embarrassed. Embrace it. Wear it proudly that Billion Indians are reviver of Test format. :jf

There is no demand on test format. So Pakistan playing in Test format is wasting money that they don't have. To make quick bucks is the possible with hosting Indian team since Indians are crazy about Test format. Besides, not just Pakistan; even Africa, NZ, WI and the rest of them don't care about test format hence less test matches comparatively.

Only India cares about test format and Eng/OZ in regards to Ashes. Test format is done and dusted for good.

Test cricket needs to be saved.

Why? No one has time for Test format apart from Indians. And India is hosting Test format nonstop so the popularity of test format in India is not problem.

this odi and t20 are rubbish formats. Doesn't test your endurance, power, ability to survive in difficult conditions, ability to face quality bowlers and your technique.

Yes it test power in t20 and odi but not to the extent of test where you would need to maintain the power for all 5 days.

Says the Indians who adores Test format will find limited formats rubbish. But the world barring India and Eng/OZ disagrees. Test format is pointless and time consuming and doesn't benefit any nations other than India and Eng/OZ so what is the point?

Limited formats bring money so that shows as per the demand that people want limited formats and especially when it comes to Pakistan cricket, Africa cricket, NZ cricket, WI cricket and the rest of them.

As for me; the sooner test format dies the better.... :D

south africa will never become like west indies. never. They just won the rugby world cup. This is the first time they fielded a large amount of black players in the rugby world cuo and they stil managed to win it despite the quota system. Their black origin or coloured players will soon start performing in cricket too. They have one of the best school systems that allow them to churn out a lot of talented players.

lol N.z cares about test cricket. They ar3 actually compensated well in tests compared to odi and t20.

Well if test dies, it dies right.

Poorest Day/Night crowd I’ve seen at Adelaide, by far.
