The 7th match of Group A in the Asia Cup 2025 will see the United Arab Emirates take on Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 15. Both sides are still searching for their first win in the tournament, making this a crucial clash to stay alive in the group.

Oman, who suffered a heavy 93-run defeat against Pakistan, will look to bounce back with stronger batting intent. Meanwhile, UAE come into the game after being outclassed by India, losing by 9 wickets, and will be eager to improve their performance in front of home supporters.

With India already dominating the group and Pakistan holding a strong position, this encounter is a must-win for both Oman and UAE if they wish to remain in contention.

Pakistan need Oman to win this

I’m not keen on playing a UAE side looking for a virtual knockout next game.

Lol you never know with this Indian side. They might just boycott the Oman game to knock Pakistan out.
The point of matter is UAE is not beating Pakistan...they just don't have in it...in sharjah ground they scored some runs...in this ground no chance..only decent tulla is waseem....80 percent guys can't even hold bat........Asif khan Don't gonna work in big ground....

We are extremely lucky to be in this group.

Sources suggest the PCB has threatened to boycott its next Asia Cup game against the UAE if its demands( Removal of match referee) are not met.

Great chance for UAE to reach in super -4: stages if they beat Oman Today.

:kp

Due to Ind-Pak shoehorning.

Due to the handshake event, they should be separated in the future.

Pakistan shouldn't get advantage of India every time lol. Even if sometimes they can't take advantage of it (eg 2024 WC).
Especially if they are in the group of Srilankans it will get really tricky.

UAE is doing great here ... oman will be the team with zero win from this group, lol

UAE and Nepal are the only strong associates from Asia.

Countries like Oman are terrible. Oman actually became weaker after they had a pay dispute between players and administration. Most regular players are gone.

I am all for UAE/Oman/Hong Kong not playing the Asia cup anymore till their team actually consists of majority of people from their respective nation, not Pakistan and India. We already have the premier Pak/Ind team playing, we don't need a 3rd class team mixed with Ind/Pak expats. I am all for Nepal and wtv other asian team that actually has their own nationality playing for them - this helps the game grow in the country. By letting these indians/pakistani represent those nation only, the game stays centered around a small expat community.

If expats don't represent Hong Kong/Oman/UAE, these countries are unlikely to play any cricket. Local populations in those countries don't care about cricket I guess.

Good, then it dies. These countries have been playing for long enough - not even one local person from the country to show anything? What has ICC been promoting in those countries then - only to attract the regular test playing nationals? Whats the point of these knock-off temu india/pakistan team? Let countries like Japan, China (am assuming most are actually chinese kids that plays for the team) etc come and join the Asia cup. Am all for killing off projects that shows no progress and allocating the money somewhere else where locals are actually playing for their national teams. As long as the money keeps injecting, the locals gets TV time, game will slowly progress and people will find heroes in their national team to look forward too. And that is how you grow a nationa into a sport that is unknown to them. Look at Nepal, Paras Khadka is probably not a common name that many knows but many kids watched him play and wanted to be like him. Japan, and co, etc needs 1 like him to emerge and the interest will be born.

Same with your country - before the Shakibs, Tamims, Mushfiqur, there were Akram Khan and (sorry I don't know many ex BD players name so insert wtv name you can think off). These players watched those guys on TV to become Shakib and Tamim. And because of Shakib and Tamim, who were much better player, next gen just wants to replicate thier heroes. They were dreaming of representing the country - not just fill it up with other nationals - if that were to happen, your team would not be here today either, neither would you be here watching and supporting bd cricket.

Agree.

Anyway, ICC is unlikely to change these rules I guess. So, these are all hypothetical.

I personally think a player needs to be a permanent resident or a citizen to represent in cricket. Temporary workers shouldn't represent.

UAE scoring more runs against Oman than Pak lol…albeit @ a different venue Abu Dhabi
