UEFA Champions League | 2016-17 season

Don't need a calculator to figure out who has the better strike rate.

So box camper Ronaldo can't even compete with Messi in goal scoring when he's creating too :))

That's just their gulf in their class :kohli2 :shehzad

Not. even. close.

Pele scored over a 1,000 goals.

500 of those goals came from friendlies. 460+ came from a poor quality regional tournament in Brazil (Before Brazilian Serie A began and it was against local teams, this tournament was called Campeonato Paulista). The rest came in the Brazilian Serie A, where he scored 34 in 84 games,in comparison, his strike rate is bettered by Giroud for Arsenal in the EPL.

Making a comeback in this tie against Juve's watertight defence would be an even greater achievement than the comeback against PSG.

"If you look at the way things went, it is extremely difficult when you are playing with 10 against 14."

Muller wasn't impressed with yesterday's officiating. :))

Muller would do well to focus on trying to score some goals for a change. :usman

According to Goal.com: Barcelona: 19 shots (1 on target). Juventus: 9 shots (4 on target).

Terribly wasteful.

Juventus simply too good for this Barca side, haven't played well this season.

They're still in the league because of Messi.

Aman what happened to Messi? He was poor against PSG and did nothing against Bayern either.
He played well last leg, problem was no one made use of the chances he created.

Only watched the second half of this leg and he didn't do well, but hardly unexpected when you're 3 down against Juventus.

Messi absolutely bottled it tonight. Well over the two legs really he missed two 6 yard sitters which apparently other ATGs have built their careers on and they are so easy to do supposedly. Looks like he is winding down. Should leave Barca for a new challenge maybe come to PL but he will struggle with the physicality at his age now will end up like Falcao did.

Messi should go to MLS now at the age of 30 hes done it all at club level. Should have an early retirement like the Rock did.

Seeing lineker and co act like Messis personal lotas is nauseating. Yes he is human lads calm down

Higuain was on the same pitch, he must be to blame for Messi missing chances and not scoring.

Messi did it again eversince age is catching him up he's a minnow basher who is abysmal in hig pressure games

Well, that stat is why most of these years they haven't even made the semifinals. 2017: Messi chokes QFs, no semis for Barca
2016: Messi chokes QFs, no semis for Barca
2015: Barca coasts through QFs with no help from Messi, Messi gets 2 goals in 1st leg of semis, fails to score 2nd leg and final.
2014: Messi chokes QFs, no semis for Barca
2013: Messi scores 1 goal across 2 legs in QFs, chokes in semis and Barca loses 7-0
2012: Messi converts 2 PKs in QFs, chokes in semis and is held scoreless in Barca loss

That's 3 non-penalty goals in Messi's last 19 big CL matches. AKA the same number of goals Ronaldo had just yesterday

Haven't you watched the opens chances messi missed?..............with neymar creating chances after chances a better finishing may have taken the tie far more close

London_Lahori im a big Messi fan but he was pretty average in these two legs. Barca need to rebuild in the summer. Busquets and Iniesta look on their last legs. Need a new RB and a CB. They are too reliant on their front 3.

Protea Fan whatever u wanna say for Messi at Intl Level at Club Level he is far from a bottler hes been the driving force for Barca for almost the last decade. the 09 and 11 UCLs Messi was the one who drove Barca to those titles.

Last few years he has slowed down in UCL though. But overall throughout his career hes had enough big moments for Barca to show that he isnt a choker. Hes won 8 La Liga titles been the main guy for over half of those. And hes been the main guy of the teams that won the UCL in 09 11 and 15.

As a diehard Real Madrid fan,I can say there were a lot of horrible decisions for Bayern in the second leg but there were a lot of decisions that went against Madrid as well.Unfortunately, fans from certain teams won't see the decisions that went against us but will still claim we bought the refs.Hard luck to Bayern though one of their goals was also offside.

Barca have spent poorly, their last 2 windows have been shambolic. Then again it's never easy to replace ATG's in Xavi and Iniesta.

They also haven't replaced Alves at LB. Big summer coming up for them.

Potentially mouthwatering semi-finals. Real v Atletico is always a great battle, while Monaco (arguably the best attack in Europe) v Juventus (best defence in Europe) has all the makings of a cracking encounter.

2 good semis. Going for a Juventus vs Real Madrid final.

That Juventus defence maybe strong for the other 3 teams.

After destroying Bayern alone, best player on planet earth has scored again against Athleti :19:

50th goal in UCL Knockout stage, I believe he is the first football player in history to achieve that milestone.

MMHS This is the appropriate thread for Champions League discussion. :D

He remains the man for the job! He has almost single-handedly swept aside Bayern Munich and now Atletico Madrid in the business end of the Champions League. It's another big goal for Cristiano Ronaldo. Marcelo finds Karim Benzema on the edge of the area, he flicks it on and Filipe Luis tries to nick it.

He doesn't get there, Ronaldo rolls him and then thumps home from 18 yards. Deadly.

Phil Neville "What a strike from Ronaldo. You want your big players to stand up in these situations and there is no one bigger than Ronaldo.

The power - the technique - from THE greatest footballer on this earth at this moment in time - absolutely sensational. "

:))) :))) RIP Aman

THE GREATEST PERFORMANCE IN UCL HISTORY! CARNAGE! YOU BEAUTY Ronaldo! WHAT A CHAMPION! CRUNCH GAMES! HATTRICK! The KING of CHOKE aka Messi fans RIP :)))

Chokesi = KING of Scoring SOFT Goals

This is the REAL CHAMPION! = CR7, he delivers when it COUNTS!

I'll say it again. THE greatest player on this planet.

The composure from CR7! He didn't panic, he took a touch and stroked it into the centre of the goal.

Those fans are privileged to be there tonight at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Atletico have been out-fought, out-classed, out-battled, out-everything tonight.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a physical specimen - a total, natural athlete.

Athletico have a worse inferiority complex than us (Australia) and Pakistan (India)

Congrats to Ronaldo on the hattrick, might be clawing his way back to second best in the world and second best player on his team.

Imagine how these guys would have reacted if the choke artist scored that hattrick in a KO game, but obviously that is unlikely to happen given that he can't handle pressure :broad

Stop it guys. Both Messi and Ronaldo are great players, Messi is more of a naturally gifted athlete while ronaldo is a super human kind of athlete. #Vamosmessi #HalaRonaldo

Blame the Ronaldo fan boys who live under the delusion. I wouldn't mind it if they didn't keep spouting such rubbish.

Ronaldo is excellent no doubt and has his areas where he's clearly superior (headers, penalties, tap ins and leadership), but the majority can acknowledge who the better is.

The day they realize it, we can move on and appreciate both rather than comparing the two (the comparison has been a dead for a while for most Messi fans).

Brilliant win from Real Madrid. Suprised Athletico conceded 3 goals. They now face an uphill task in the 2nd leg. Don't see them scoring 3 without Real Madrid not scoring.

Juventus vs Monaco will be an interesting game.

The tie was over when Athletico drew Real.

They have a serious inferiority complex and will never beat Real. Kinda of like NZ against Australia in KO games and Pakistan against India in WCs.

Atletico in last 13 ucl games: only conceded 5 goals

Ronaldo just dismantled them rigorously last night

What else can be said about CRISTIANO RONALDO? The dude is 32 and still the man for the big games......Nowadays its like we can't imagine a madrid side without ronaldo.....Its a mounting task to find an ideal replacement for him once he's done

Messi is not even 2nd best in his team...isn't he?
It was neymar's individual brilliance which takes barca to quaters in CL and messi went missing forconsecutive knockout games again and again so its utterly disgrace to call him even best in barca

Hope to see a better game between Monaco and Juve. Credit to Ronaldo for his hat-trick, but Atletico's timid play made the match a real eyesore. Hopefully, Monaco v Juve will at least be alive going into the second leg. Either side should be intriguing to watch against (probably) Real in the final.

Massive away goal for Juve. Still hoping this tie doesn't also fizzle out in the first leg.

Monaco being outclassed. Think this tie is probably over as well. Real vs Juve final very likely now.

The SFs have been a real letdown so far. Hope the final won't be this one-sided, unless it's Real getting thrashed, of course... :babar

I think, what Real (Zizu) will do is, they'll sale Benzema & make CR No. 9 (with a No. 7 shirt). With his physical condition, skills & intelligence, I believe he can remain Real's starting CF, at least till 35, if not 38. And, he'll keep scoring goals, every where within box, every league, from every position, with both legs & head. Besides, he is goal savvy, to a level of almost being selfish - he'll win at least couple of UEFA annual golden boot, if he is played as out & out CF in any arrow tip formation (4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, 4-5-1, 4-3-2-1 ...) for Real, Bayern or PSG.

I have seen many genius in soccer, but it's really difficult to find one such unique winger, who breaks all sorts of scoring records.

I thought Higuain was a choker, that's what Messi fans told us shaz619 Red Devil

Juve striker Higuain came into the match having only netted twice in his last 24 knockout games in the competition, but banished his reputation as a player who does not shine in big games by scoring the same amount in a single match at Stade Louis II.

Above from Goal's match report. Apparently, it was the bluest of blue moons for Gonzalo.

Wouldn't be suprised if this happens. They may go for another forward and maybe a winger just so CR7 doesn't get overplayed.

They have beaten them in the league but when it comes to the champions league they can't seem to get the job done.

Alas. If only Atletico hadn't been so pathetic in the first leg. Away goal was necessary; on top of that their miserable defence...

:)) Barca fans desperately hoping for a Real defeat so they can some how big up their hero even though he has not scored even one goal in the KO stage :kohli

Not so much a Barca fan as I am a Messi fan, but I didn't deny that his output in this year's UCL KOs was lacklustre. At any rate, Real is one of my most despised clubs, therefore, my desire to see them fail is only natural.

Fair enough, the feelings mutual :akhtar Am not a big fan of Real as I am of Aston Villa :uak in the same way but Ronaldo is my favourite
