Kolo mauani gives France lead, good header

Poor defending

Spain edged out France to reach the final of Euro 2024 as Lamine Yamal netted a stunning strike to become the youngest goalscorer in European Championship history.

After Randal Kolo Muani headed in Kylian Mbappe's cross to give France an early lead, Yamal curled home from outside the box to write his name into the record books by scoring at the age of 16 years and 362 days.

Yamal's goal came in the 21st minute, and Spain were ahead just four minutes later as Dani Olmo's shot was turned home by France defender Jules Kounde.

After an absorbing first half, France had to come out fighting - and they did just that, with Aurelien Tchouameni having a header saved and Mbappe denied from an ambitious effort.

While Spain have been the most attacking side at the tournament to date, this time they showed they have the defence to match as they stayed on course for a fourth European Championship title.

France, for their part, came up short in attack against a side that will take some stopping when they face either England or the Netherlands in Sunday's final.

For all the talent and quality that Spain have had historically they are a very boring team to watch.

I wish we could bury tiki taka football once and for all.

What are you talking about man? They have been one of the most exciting teams alongside Turkey in this euro cup.

Glad to see Spain go through they’ve thrilling to watch, if England get through, I think the game will be done in first half

'A superstar is born' - Yamal's history making moment of 'genius'

Every so often, a goal is scored at a European Championship that stands the test of time. It is remembered, replayed, and talked about for decades.

Marco van Basten's angled volley at Euro 1988 is one. Paul Gascoigne's individual run and finish at Euro 1996 is another, as is Karel Poborsky's chip at the same tournament.

Lamine Yamal's history making goal for Spain against France in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 can be added to the list.

With Spain trailing 1-0, Yamal curled a brilliant strike from outside the box into the top corner to send him into the history books.

At 16 years and 362 days he became the youngest man to score in the tournament's history - and had those watching left in awe.

"A superstar is born," former England striker Gary Lineker said on BBC One. "It was the moment of the match, possibly the moment of the tournament."

"Just incredible," added ex-England striker Alan Shearer. "We've been talking about him all tournament and saying what a ridiculously young age it is.

"To do that, it's just outrageous."

'A touch of genius'

The goal, which had fans inside the Allianz Arena and around the world gasping as it was replayed in slow motion, was all the more impressive because of its timing.

This was at 1-0 down in the semi-final of a major tournament. It was a high-pressure moment, but one he handled effortlessly.

At no stage in the build-up to the heavyweight contest did Yamal show signs of nerves.

He was smiling and joking with his team-mates on the pitch in the hours before kick-off, and carried that confidence into his performance.

"We saw a touch of genius," Spain boss Luis de la Fuente said of Yamal's goal.

"We all need to take care of him. I would like him to work with the same humility and keep his feet on the ground, to keep learning.

“He looks like a much more experienced player to be honest. I celebrate that he is in our team, that he is Spanish.

"We count on him and hopefully we can enjoy him for years to come.”

Yamal wants to 'win, win, win and win' after 'dream comes true'

Yamal is now making an impact on the international stage, but he had already rewritten the record books in his breakthrough season at Barcelona.

He became the Spanish side's youngest starter and goalscorer, as well as the youngest scorer in La Liga.

Yamal turns 17 on 13 July - one day before the final of Euro 2024, in which Spain will face either England or the Netherlands.

Giving an insight into his mentality, the teenager said all he wanted to do to celebrate his birthday was "win, win, win and win".

Whoever Spain face in the final, they would be advised not to provide the youngster with additional motivation, as France perhaps did.

Prior to the game, midfielder Adrien Rabiot said Yamal would need to "show more than he had so far at the tournament".

At the end of the game, Yamal celebrated by saying to a TV camera: "Speak now, speak now."

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand said: "It's almost like Yamal saw Rabiot and his eyes lit up and he said: 'I'm going to show you.'

"A wonderful finish from a kid so young."

Yamal emerged for the post-match news conference at 12:15am, when most other 16-year-olds would be fast asleep, and was asked who his comments were directed to.

“The person I am talking about, this person will know who this person is," he said.

"It is a dream come true to reach a final with the national team."

Facing the gathered media, Yamal showed the same level of confidence he had on the pitch.

His focus now switches to Sunday's final in Berlin.

Asked who he would prefer to face, he replied: "I don’t really mind.

"When you reach the final you have to play the best and they are also very equal games.

"We will wait and play whoever it is.”

They haven't played tiki taka football in this competition, they have got the ball forward quickly for their pacey forwards. They learnt their lessons from a poor WC, where they just passed the ball around with no end product.

That 2nd half yesterday did they create a single chance? In fact did they even try to create a chance?

Spain had a battle royal against Germany in the Quarters. Its normal they will ease in phases last night.

Who ever they meet in the final, they will have their suspended players back, and should win.

Historically a very boring side, they were even more boring when they won the world cup. It was such a relief when the dutch put them in their place via Van Persie/Robben.

Historically yes. But not this side. Two quality out and out wingers to compliment their possession based game, which gives them extra dimensions in attack.

Didier Deschamps future: France boss facing questions as Les Bleus fail to make Euro 2024 final

Didier Deschamps has been a revelation as France manager, guiding them to world glory, but the European Championship has evaded him again.

Euro 2024 was likely to be his last chance to rectify it, but Les Bleus didn't deliver and crashed out in the semi-finals after a rather uninspiring tournament.

Despite this disappointment, Deschamps is one of the best international managers around and reached another semi-final.

However, after the 2-1 defeat to Spain in Munich, there could be a lot of question marks over his future.

Didier Deschamps: Future

Deschamps has been France's manager for nearly 12 years now, and because of his long run of success, he had earned the right to decide his future.

After the World Cup in 2022, it appeared as if the Frenchman might decide he'd done all he could.

But in January 2023, he signed a new deal keeping him as Les Bleus boss until after the 2026 World Cup.

There was talk of Zinedine Zidane coming in for Deschamps, but reaching another World Cup final with a depleted squad ensured the France Football Federation [FFF] entrusted Deschamps with another few years.

However, after failing to even reach the final of Euro 2024 while playing some terrible football, there could now be shouts for the Frenchman to go.

Certainly, he seemed offended by a question regarding his position in the immediate aftermath of France's loss to Spain.

In the post-match press conference, he said: "I've just lost a semi-final. You know how my president thinks. Maybe you shouldn't have even asked this question."

It will be fascinating to see what happens next to Deschamps because his future as France's manager might not be as clear as it was before Euro 2024 started.

Didier Deschamps: Record

Deschamps became the France first-team manager in July 2012 after managing Monaco, Juventus and Marseille.

As a club boss, he won Ligue 1 and four French League Cups, three with Marseille and one with Monaco.

So he arrived at Les Bleus with plenty of pedigree, and as a player, he was France's captain for many years.

France had struggled for a long time before Deschamps arrived, and the Frenchman immediately tried to change things.

His initial aim was to ensure France qualified for the 2014 World Cup, which they duly did.

In Brazil, the 1998 world champions made it to the quarter-finals, where they were narrowly beaten by the eventual winners Germany, but it was no disgrace to lose.

Les Bleus got their revenge two years later when they beat Germany 2-0 on home soil at Euro 2016 in the semi-finals.

However, they were denied success by Portugal, who won 1-0 in the final thanks to Eder's goal in extra time to crush France's dreams.

It would have been very easy for the FFF to decide Deschamps had failed and get rid.

Instead, they kept faith and were more than rewarded at the World Cup in Russia 2018.

Led by the ridiculously talented teenager Kylian Mbappe, France became champions of the world for the second time.

Along the way, they beat Argentina and Belgium before in the final, Paul Pogba inspired Les Bleus to a 4-2 win over Croatia.

It was a result that cemented Deschamps' place in France as a legend.

Since then, France have won the Nations League and reached another World Cup final.

Last time, though, it wasn't to be as Lionel Messi's Argentina beat Deschamps' men on penalties after a crazy final that ended 3-3.

However, at Euro 2020, they were knocked out by Switzerland in the round of 16.

Of course, they went much further this time, but only scored one goal from open play all tournament despite having a wealth of options at his disposal.

He delivered a trophy after 5 or 6 years in charge, and there’s Southgate, achieved nothing for 8 years besides 2nd place. Lucky to be manager really, with any so called golden gen, the minimum for a European team is to deliver a WC or EURO’s trophy. Even Martinez got the boot from Belgium.

That 2nd half yesterday did they create a single chance? In fact did they even try to create a chance?
They did the same vs Germany. You aren't going to dominate other big sides for 90 minutes. Spain showed they can play with flair, but all play with grit when required.

In both games they got the job done.

100% spot on, fluid passing, a dynamic front 3. Also experienced players like nacho, cajaval and rodri who know the dark arts of the game

Shocking moment England fans are attacked by Netherlands supporters flinging punches & bottles ahead of Euros semi

THIS is the shocking moment chaos took over ahead of the Euro semifinal as England fans were attacked by Netherland supporters.

Dramatic footage shows the fanbases flinging punches and bottles in the air as tensions rise before tonight's clash in Dortmund.

It’s unclear what sparked the violent brawl, which saw England fans retreat into a bar to avoid being pelted by glass.

A similar clash took place weeks ago before England’s Euros curtain raiser against Serbia, which left an English fan with blood pouring from a head wound.

Sources at the scene said a group of yobs appeared to have started chaos in a restaurant near the venue city of Gelsenkirchen five hours before kick-off.

Spain vs England final

I would say the same but with two Dutch Liverpool stars up against them it’s not going to be easy . 🙂

Dutch middle of the park is an issue . If England don’t control this they will lose . Otherwise control the game & hope Kane & co take their chances .

Dutch fans will be important in the wall too . Feels like Holland will go through in a tight gane .

What a goal simons spanks it into top corner 1-0

Poor from Rice, but a rocket shot from simons

England's movement or lack of it in final 3rd is an issue. No fluidity

England were clueless bar Saka .

Luck has arrived, pathetic call .

This could make or break the Dutch now , mental game for them . England back in it

England play their best football when they are behind 1 goal.

Really need to play the same way they do when chasing a game

Ronald not seeing huge gaps for foden & saka . If he closes those in mid , Dutch always value to score here

.

England got the luck , now must show up & win the game comfortably, it’s there for the taking

England defenders are taking to long on ball, they should be getting ball out quickly to trippier and saka. Instead walker and stones to slow on ball release.

The Dutch tend to play well in patches, so I'm sure they will get chances in 2nd half. England need to be ruthless

Ian wright defending the penalty

Great player but a poor pundit at England games . Bruv you getting paid to analyse not be a fan on stage lol

Wright is like that with Arsenal games as well

Are stones and walker Allergic to passing ball to saka

No fluidity now as walker and stones and slow sides and backwards passes

The Dutch have been one of the worst teams off the ball throughout the tournament. The press is kryptonite for the England players.

England lack of intent with ball has made this a boring 2nd half. 1st half England got the ball out wide quickly

Netherlands fans attack England supporters

Five people suffered minor injuries after England fans were attacked by the Netherlands supporters in Dortmund before Wednesday's Euro 2024 semi-final, according to UK police.

Police said a group of the Netherlands fans attacked England fans in bars and attempted to steal flags.

They said that the majority of the Netherlands fans were there to "enjoy the game" but there were some groups of supporters deemed a "risk".

Watkins! should have been starting every game!

I don’t give desperate Gareth any credit for that.

Late Watkins winner send England into the Finals

England will face Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin on Sunday after a last-minute strike from substitute Ollie Watkins sealed victory over the Netherlands

Superb Simons strike gives Dutch lead inside seven minutes, Kane levels from spot & Watkins gives England lead in 90th minute

Gareth Southgate's side looked to be going into extra time for the third successive game after Harry Kane's contentious first-half penalty equalised a thunderous early strike from Xavi Simon.

Instead, a superb late strike on the turn from Watkins, on for Kane, sent England into their second successive European Championship final on dramatic night in Dortmund.

I thought we let the game drift but Ollie comes good. All the Villa fans have been crying out for him to play and today he showed why

He been getting in these dangerous positions all season with relative ease, that was great to watch! top top player announcing himself on the world stage, and some thought he’s a worthless bum for humiliating their favourite manager 🙈 @Amjid Javed

I cant believe England are in the final.

Completely rubbish through most of the tournament.

But they held their nerve in the tense moments.

Spain should hammer them but England's luck may stretch another game!

You are right but that's football. Italian teams have WCs with less.

I've always rated Watkins and Ivan Toney.

Yeah there are 🤡 who don't rate him

Happy Watkins got his goal

Solid

Recon England will run through Spain on Sunday now!

Ollie Watkins same guy who stopped Arsenal from winning the league basically.

Clutch performer

Of course. I hope they go all the way. Will be nice to see these see some of these young black lads become national heroes and immortalized.
Knowing English Media and people only one getting immortalised will be Kane.

Congrats to all England supporters...hope its coming home on Sunday.
