"Canada is heaven compared to the hell hole which is the UK."

:))

UK has it's problems but surely Canada cannot compare to the UK?

I've never been to Canada because never considered it having anything special apart from some of its natural beauty but there are many places in the world with beauty.

Can anyone list some great things Canada has which the UK doesnt?

Canada does not invade other countries.

I agree their foriegn policy is much better than the UK but your statement isn't fully accurate. Canada sent troops as part of the occuption of Iraq, the worst crime against humanity in living memory.

Bilingual, welcoming of most cultures, less obnoxious Desis, much better resources incl water, larger area.

Ice hockey over football , snow> rain

shaz619 need your love for the empire here :P

Canada

- Wide open spaces like America
- Less population density
-Bigger houses
- Better climates
- Lower cost of living compared to the UK
- Access to America - the biggest economy in the world.
- Nation of immigrants - so you can always become Canadian/American but you can never become English (ethnically).

That was worse than what Saddam did to Kuwait, or do you support what Iraq did to Kuwait?.

So Canada just found this wide open empty space that no one lived in.

Any of you who crossed the Rainbow Bridge (Look it up) will know once you walk on the Canada side, it's a different world!

1000x worse. No the US and British supported Saddam not me. Dont assume brown skinned people will support brown skinned people, this is a mindeset of white supremacists. But lets stick to comparing UK v Canada, Im happy to educate you on this conflict in the right thread.

I have been to both as my wife is Canadian and to be honest I loved Canada way more than UK. My experience in UK, having lived half my life in UK has never been pleasant. Not that I don't like UK either, its a fantastic country which to this day gives a lot of opportunities to people from around the globe. But I like Canada a lot better. KK you will love it a lot, i hope you get to visit one day : )

They wiped out the First nations/native but a Canadian identity didn't exist prior to the formation of Canada. I'm not saying you can be native i.e Cherokee, Dakota etc but you can be Canadian because Canadian like American are artifical identities that were created within the past few centuries whereas the English are an ethnicity with a long history.

Come on bro, the Sahara or parts of Africa have wide open spaces. Nature is present worldwide.

Depends where you live, try the highlands of Scotland, less density.

UK has some of the biggest houses you can find, it depends on your wallet.

English summer is better than summers in any place in the world imo.

Maybe true, cost of living is high in the UK esp London.

Europe is better to trade with than the UK esp since Trump has arrived.

Bradistan says hi. :)

Canada's far too cold in winter. Despite the British Isles being at similar or higher latitudes than large parts of Canada, it's not as cold in winter due to the moderating effects of the North Atlantic Gulf Stream.

Well theres one more, the UK is full of white supremacists.

As someone who is from Canada, I have to say Canada is better than both UK and USA. This is my opinion only and I am sure some may disagree. Here are my reasons:

1) Canada has much less violence and drama than both US and UK. I think the reasons are cold weather and strong immigration laws.

2) Canadian law enforcement is not as redneck as American ones or as soft as UK ones. Canadian law enforcement is somewhere in the middle. I would say Canadian cops are the most balanced ones out of all Western countries.

3) Canada has a low population (only around 36-million) and massive landmass. No place in Canada is too crowded. Canada is basically like the size of a whole continent.

4) Canada doesn't have serious far-right problem or ISIS problem. Even our Conservatives are quite liberal compared to some far-right parties from Europe and North America. Now that doesn't mean that there aren't extremists but number is very low.

5) Canada has free health care. I don't have to pay anything when I am sick. I get a doctor's visit for free. Dental service is not free though and I hope they will make it free at some point.

6) Last but not the least, it is a beautiful country. People are generally very friendly and polite.

Oh they just wiped out the people that lived there, so Canada is a product of genocide.

- The wide open spaces are fertile
- Canadian cities are less dense, nobody wants to live in the sticks
- Any country can have big houses but North America has bigger houses on average and they're far more affordable than in the Uk. Middle class people in NA have bigger houses and cars compaed to the rest of the world.
- Canada has a huge country with many climates and I'm sure you can find the "English summer" in Vancouver or the Atlantic coast. Heck, we have cities with English climate in America.
- But America is still the biggest economy in the world regardless of who's president. Canada-America trade is nothing compared to the UK-EU trade.
- Canada has Mississauga and "bradistan" just proves my point, you can't be English ethnically but you can become Canadian/American since those are new civic identities not based on an ethnicity.

Good points.

Sport? We have Lords, Wimbledon, Wembley, St Andrews, Anfield etc. Dont Canadian teams such as Raptors play in the American leagues?

For me sport is a major issue, for this reason alone I could not live in Canada but Im not suggesting the UK is better overall because ive not been there, just looking for views.

A bit like Australia eh?

No, Australia was inhabited by Aboriginies and Torres straight islanders. The population which is at the highest it has been in the last 30,000 years.

In 1788 there were est 250,000 aborigines and today there is in excess of 760,000.

Literally there is no measure in which UK is better than Canada. UK is a homeless person's Canada.

Canada is all about hockey. Ice hockey in Canada is like what cricket is in subcontinent. Canadian national ice hockey team is one of the best in the world. Canadians mostly play in American leagues as our own Canadian leagues are not that good.

After hockey, it is basketball. Raptors actually won the recent NBA title and they were the first Canadian team in history to win the title.

Canada also has CFL (Canadian Football League) but I would not consider it as top class. It is a rip off from NFL (American football league).

Soccer is slowly becoming popular and I will not be surprised if Canada starts to go to World Cup more regularly.

Baseball has popularity too. My city's team (Toronto Blue Jays) went to playoff a few times in recent times.

Our minor sports include lacrosse, cricket etc.

How many of those are white people claiming to be 1/100th aboriginal :))

One thing you missed is that Canada has America on its border which is the largest economy in the world and this helps a great deal. Ottawa is called the Silicon Valley of the North it has large R&D offices of Apple, Intel, Cisco, Ciena, IBM etc. Then Toronto has massive operations of AMD, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Google, Amazon etc. I also work for a MASSIVE American company.

A lot of the American firms "outsource" their work to Canada because they get the same work ethic and quality that they would get in America but at 30% cheaper rate due to weaker Canadian dollar. That is also a reason when US started limiting Indians from entering they all started flooding here because the US companies were "outsourcing".

This is just in the tech space. On top of that Lockhead Martin, Rolls Royce, Pratt&Whitney and Boeing all have massive manufacturing facilities in Canada.

All in all even on its worst day Canada is better than muggy, old UK with a bunch of white supremacists arguing when is the best time to have tea and biscuits.

No offence but for me apart fom basketball those sports are rubbish.

In London on the same day we had an epic final at Wimbledon and a few miles away an epic final in cricket. Canada will never have such a sporting day until the end of time. But everyone has their own preferences in sports.

How many of those are white people claiming to be 1/100th aboriginal :))

Its considered racism to question their DNA, there are many racist ignorant bigots that question this but the AAC considers these people to be racists.

They've hosted the winter olympics like twice and the summer olympics once.

I will have to visit and it's on the agenda but only in the summer, cant stand cold weather. Can you elaborate bro? Was it the general atmostphere, friendly people or how organised it was etc? Seems you have the best of both worlds being able to hop between the two nations.

Idk about you but I can't take white people claiming Native heritage seriously when they look as white as snow with blue eyes, follow Christianity, have English names and don't speak a word of an aboriginal language.

Good to compare. Most say the London Olympics recently were the best Olympic games of all time.

Btw Ben Johnson the Canadian, what a cheat ruined the glory of the great Carl Lewis.

You are correct. Canada and USA are too busy with regional sports (ice hockey, baseball etc.). They generally don't do well in global sports.

But, Canada is slowly improving in soccer because migrants from Africa and Europe are coming to Canada. These players will hopefully make the team better.

I personally like cricket, soccer, and basketball. I don't like ice hockey (#1 sport in Canada) a lot.

We even have a lot of presence of TJ with maulanas coming over from Pak, Ind, BD and Middle East to do conferences. I'm sure KKWC will love it. :))

Canadian weather is not that extreme in the southern region. Just don't come during November-April and you should be fine.

Best time to visit Toronto is between June and October. Weather is pretty reasonable at that time.

I once went to my college in -33 degrees (Celsius). That was in January 2018.

lol Relax, it's a civil discussion. No need to get offended esp since you werent even born in Canada and dont sound Canadian.

Explain in a mature manner why Canada is heaven compared to the Uk because so far you havent made a good case.

It was +41C last Saturday :))

Sure, I have a friend who moved there so will visit soon enough.

What about the food? Please dont tell me fries with cheese on top is the main dish of Canada?

Toronto is extremely multicultural. You shouldn't have any issue with the food. You will probably find 100+ different food stores.

If you want to try traditional Canadian foods, try maple syrup with waffle or poutine.

OK so the AAC is lying.

Another reason why Canada is better

- Don't need to wear uniforms to schools unlike in England
- The North American K-12 system > The confusing UK school system.

Why would white people claim to be an Aborigine.

Blue jays have two world series titles... in 92 and 93, if anything they are better than many baseball teams in states.

That was a long time ago. Blue Jays hasn't done anything big in recent times (went to playoff but never won anything).

Only Raptors and Toronto FC brought in titles in the past 10 years.

So the aboriginal population has only trebled in over 230 years? Besides, according to the article below, your figure of 250,000 in 1788 is incorrect. The article says the figure was 770,000 in 1788, meaning only now has it recovered to the levels of over 230 years ago, the time of the 'invasion' when the First Fleet of British ships arrived at Sydney, New South Wales.

Experts estimate the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders at more than 770,000 at the time of the invasion in 1788 [2]. It fell to its low of around 117,000 people in 1900, a decrease by 84%.

Yeah but they aren’t bad do you know before 2016 when did Cubs win the title or before 2004 when Boston Sox won a title?

You are right though. Our Toronto baseball team is better than many American baseball teams. I hope they win a title soon.

Yeah I m hoping soon although i don't care enough for baseball, but jays is defn better than so many hyped baseball teams in America, just hoping Leafs win the cup though!

I think its more like general atmosphere, UK especially in a lot of areas I found a lot of hostility against Muslims, though it has to be said I probably felt it more as I was raised in a white only area so its probably unfair for me to generalise but it was there during my college years. I remember when my family started a mosque the daily nonsense we had to do deal with was unreal as well. I am also in the medical field so I have never really been happy with NHS now as well, in terms of salaries, the treatment doctors get in terms of meaningless complaints and just ridiculous pressure. When I compare my experiences to my wife's its day and night i.e. she never faced any kind of racism at any point, but me, I can honestly write essays :)) Ofcourse though I would never hate UK, its still an amazing nation but I feel a lot of immigrants now go to Canada, all my Mum's side of the family as an example. Though I suspect that might be also be due to certain jobs in UK not being too available. I would prefer London over any city in the world, but other than that I'd like Canada more than anywhere else. But weather wise though you're right, I stayed there during winter. It is not pleasant. :danish:

UK has better sporting culture and stadia. Nothing in the whole of Canada compares to Lord's or the big football grounds. We have hosted many major international tournaments including the recent Cricket World Cup which was the greatest in history with a final for the ages.

Our NHS is ranked #1 according to Commonwealth Fund. It is totally free at the point of delivery so the poor are covered and never have to worry about affordability.

Better food and drink options, including halal food. You will literally find cuisine from every corner of the globe here from Asia to the Caribbean.

Winters are not as harsh. Never need to worry about walking around in shin high levels of snow.

Better universities - don't think a single Canadian university is ranked in top ten.

A more diverse society with people from every walk of life as seen by the audiences in the recent World Cup. It was heartwarming to see literally every team had a fanbase at the ground for their matches.

Canada has better political leadership though compared to our cast of clowns.

Yeah but they aren’t bad do you know before 2016 when did Cubs win the title or before 2004 when Boston Sox won a title?

Yes. Jays almost went to final in 2016. That was their best performance in recent times. They lost in semi-final.

Our buses in Toronto were displaying "Go Jays Go" in the front. People were glued to TV.

It was a shame Jays couldn't get over the line but that was a nice season for them.

Wikipedia puts the number at 314,000 and I'm sure you will find at least another 20-30 different estimates.

Whatever the number was before the UK came over and slaughtered them it is now far higher than 1788.

ITs a shame the NHS has gone downhill as it was the envy of the world at one point. Is healthcare and education free in Canada? What about welfare, child benefit etc? A lot of public services have been ruined recently but the austerity measures in the UK. Weather, climate is a major factor for living conditions, cant see myself ever being happy with -20 and sat at home next to the fire. Having travelled a lot, Ive noticed those in warm climates are usually more happy and not so moody but this could be my own perception.

completely depends where you live in both countries, i live in London and when i go to Birmingham or manchester its quite depressing.

..and ofcourse you must be naive to think canada cities will be any better, toronto and vancover are kids infront of London.

Tought points to argue with.

I would add our entertainment is right up there along with the US. Glastonbury is still regarded as the greatest music festival and David Attenborough is the greatest wildlife docu maker.

Health care is free in Canada. Education is free up to grade 12 (high school). University education costs money and is not free. But you can get government grants if you are poor.

I don't have much idea about welfare system but we have it here also.

UK is ahead of canada in two major domains imo

1) Production of indivisual genuis , people that have altered the course of histroy , very few can compete with UK , I will say only Germany and USA.

2) Amount of high impact research in advanced field , top 4 is mostly dominated by : USA, UK, Germany and Japan (obviously if you talk about per capita quaility switzerland and sweden would also be there but I am talking about sheer numbers). Canada is not in this league at the moment but it is obviously approaching.

most of canadian advantages come from proximity to USA and vast area/resources.

I personally will not want to live in UK and it is because of these three reasons -

1) UK has higher number of extremists (ISIS fanatics and far-right extremists).
2) UK is too crowded for me when I compare it to Canada (considering total populations and landmasses).
3) There are more crimes in UK than in Canada (stabbing attacks etc.).

Health care is free more or less but after a certain point you have to pay a certain amount from your salary, its not much. NHS was fantastic but they have honestly ruined it. Most of the money in NHS is grossly wasted and spent on too many useless management layers. Doctors are paid nowhere near enough in my opinion. A registrar in London for instance will clear about £2800 a month after taxes, which for a family is not enough at all especially with costs in London. And maybe I sound very arrogant but 6 years of hard sweat and blood in Medical school and mediocre and horrible hours is not what we want. My sibling just started working, its 12 hour days. Leave 7, come back 630. That amount of work and the pay is nowhere near good enough, ofcourse we do medicine to help people but everyone wants good compensation too. A lot of doctors leave UK, I think one year we had 4,000 out of 15,000 newly qualified doctors heading to Australia and Canada. Which is the reason why we have so many Indian/Pakistani doctors now, as UK's conditions are still a million times better than back home. I am not counting GPs ofcourse who earn insane amounts if they do locums but this is for your average doctor. On top of that doctors are honestly treated like sh1t, have to be on eggshells. Even a minor complaint can completely ruin our career. And my worry is they will privatise NHS like the US. The government already is greedy and makes hints about it all the time. For the patients NHS is a dream, even now but for the doctors and nurses its not good enough. Sorry yaar, my post turned into a NHS rant :))

Have you been to the UK?

Extremists are very small in number overall. Unless you walk into their protests you may never ever meet one. They are always outnumbered upto 20-1 at times. This shows the UK has more tolerant people, in fact I would still say it's one of the most tolerant nations. There is no ISIS in the UK, the likes of Anjum Chaudry are pretty much finished now, the far right are more of a threat and only today the security services changed their protocol to include them in any terror threat evaluation.

Crowding is never an issue because within 30 mins of any city centre(bar London) you will find acres of countryside. The British countryside is very beautiful, something out of the Lords of the Rings films. Ive not see anything like it anywhere.

Sadly crime is on the rise but most of the violent crimes are between gangs or due to social issues in some areas. I honestly cant remember being a victim of a crime apart from as kids playing out and other kids trying to take things off me, not that it worked in their favour. Do Canadian police carry guns, tasers, battons, gas etc?

Canada has a lot of Oil unlike the UK. I'm aware Scotland has some offshore Oil but nothing like Canada's oil sands.

Canada has a horrible past regarding the treatment of natives (aboriginals). The settlers killed lot of natives; the settlers forcefully moved the natives from lands with a bit better weather to lands where the weather is extreme; natives kids were forced to study in churches to become christians and adopt settlers culture; different types of addictions were introduced among natives so that they will always be unstable and never challenge settlers again; there were lot of restrictions on natives to get food etc. I think only USA was even worst in the treatment of natives

Canadian cops carry guns and other stuffs. They are quite tough but American cops are bigger rednecks.

I have never been to UK but what I see in the media makes me nervous. I am sure UK is a great country and I would love to visit it.

But you are a victim of racism, lots of posters on here complain about the racism in the UK, it is pretty bad and getting worse.

Appreciate your experience in this field. I think you have the right to criticise, medical proffesionals work very hard and no doubt should be one of the best paid. I really despise how some patients speak to doctors, heck they could be potentially saving your life! I read recently how paramedics are being subjected to more and more violence now, its sickening. The UK laws need to be much tougher, the same as if anyone assaults a police officer, jail should be the minimum sentence! Cant offer much advice but would only say is always remember you are helping people and I know youre not religious but this a great duty to humanity, keep up the good work bro.

I may be a vitcim of some racist policies but we can change these. Ive been called the odd name at school but nothing vicious. Personally Ive never had any real negative experiences in the UK but this doesn't mean I should ignore anyone who has and not speak up in their defence. I speak up for Muslims because I feel Islamaphobia is a massive issue in the west but some on here think I have a long beard and dress like an Arab. lol Its the opposite.

It doesn't really make sense for me to weigh in since I've never been to the UK.

I was born and raised in Canada.

It's a beautiful country (especially Vancouver), lots of land, easy-going population (very immigrant-friendly minus parts of Quebec lol), free education, and free healthcare.

When it comes to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, you end up nitpicking more than anything else. They're all great countries to live in relatively speaking.

Lived in the UK for a year and now lived in Canada for 3 years. I enjoyed my time in England but I’d choose Canada any day
