Umar Akmal handed three-year ban from all forms of cricket

Umar Akmal should learn from Sachin, Dhoni, Kohli - brother Kamran

“If he has made a mistake, he must learn from others,” says Umar’s elder brother and Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal.

Umar Akmal should learn from the exemplary conduct on and off the field of players such as Sachin Tendulkar, M. S. Dhoni and Virat Kohli, his elder brother and Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has said.

Umar was banned from playing cricket for three years by the Pakistan Cricket Board earlier this week.

“My advice for Umar is that he has to learn. If he has made a mistake, he must learn from others. He is still young. There are many distractions in life. But he must learn from say Virat Kohli. In the early days of IPL, Virat was different and then he changed his attitude and approach. Look how he has turned into world’s No. 1 batsman,” he said.

Kamran said Umar can also benefit from observing the conduct of Tendulkar and Dhoni who have always steered clear of controversies. “There is our own Babar Azam who is now in the top three in the world. Then there are other examples like Dhoni. Look at the way he led his team. Then Sachin paajiwho was always away from controversies. These are fantastic examples before us. We should observe and learn from them. They only looked at the sport. Off the ground, their behaviour was impeccable with their fans and they are fine ambassadors for the sport. We can only benefit from their examples,” he said.

‘Raw deal’

Kamran felt his younger brother was handed a harsh punishment as others hadn’t been sanctioned similarly for similar offences. “He can never be what the media says he did. He may have reported late, but PCB should deal with him like anyone else. Cricket is our bread and butter. He has been dealt a very raw deal by the previous management (led by former coach Mickey Arthur). He needs a bit more support,” Kamran said.

Kamran, who has featured in 53 Tests, 157 ODIs and 58 T20Is, last played for Pakistan in 2017 in the white-ball formats. Famously, he clashed with Gautam Gambhir during the 2010 Asia Cup in Dambulla and later with Ishant Sharma during a T20I in Bengaluru in 2012-13.

“It was all due to misunderstanding and happened in the heat of the moment then. Gautam and I are good friends because we have played a lot in ‘A’ cricket. We meet regularly, have food together. It was all due to me not understanding what he said. The same with Ishant at Bangalore. You know me, I don’t say much on the field. Both Gautam and Ishant are very good boys. We respect them and they respect us. What happens on the field, stays there,” he recalled.

Sad news for our man Bullet Drive who has been a big fan of him over the years. First Jamshed and now Umar. He was a big fan of both of them. Both banned from the game and one of them even finds himself behind bars.

Yes very very sad. Have been crying for the past few days. Hope I'll get better soon.

locked up for how many days....?

Give the same option to umar about serving either 3 months in jail or 3 years of banning. Anyone will gladly accept the former. Time is the biggest currency in a sportsman's life.

my man, hate has overtaken your reason lol

Curiouser and curioser!

The so-called judge was actually elevated to his position on the bench by the Musharraf state of emergency.

He then sought early retirement less than two years later when he was served with a Contempt Notice for having taken his Oath in defiance of a restraining order.

Source: https://www.dawn.com/news/495280

Well, does the PCB even bother with due diligence? They have passed off this individual as a retired judge, when it turns out that he was appointed in defiance of a restraining order and took early retirement when the long arm of the law was about to catch up with him.

Aside from the fact that he appears not to have currency of practice, the circumstances of his elevation to the bench and sudden retirement from it are extraordinary.

Does this not bother anyone?

If we compare the offense of umar and amir, one can easily see that discrimination based upon severity of crime does exist. For bigger offense, Amir received small punishment while for smaller offense, umar has received harsher one.

PCB wasnt the deciding body in Amir's case, it was ICC. Amir was given a ban of 5 years which in itself was unprecedented for spot fixing.

Kamran Akmal Tells Brother Umar To Learn From Exemplary Conduct Of Indian Cricketers

Out-of-favour Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal feels his banned younger brother Umar should learn from the exemplary conduct of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli both on and off the field.

Umar was slapped with a three-year ban from all forms of cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for his failure to report corrupt approaches ahead of the Pakistan Super League.

To think this all came because Umar Akmal stupidly boasted that I was asked to fix but did not.

Lol, it took Kamran Akmal 10 years to realize that his brother needed to behave himself. I pity Umar Akmal because i can clearly tell that he has a very poor support system, his family has definitely enabled his conduct and never admit, take responsibility for any wrong doing

Agree with this. His family have definitley enabled and supported his behaviour and publicly always tried to blame others for his downfall. For a guy with limited IQ like Umar this made him all the more brash and over confident and more likely to get in trouble.

Kamran is a lot to blame for this. I think he led his own victim mentality bleed into his defence of Umar so that whenever UA was criticized Kamran would shamelessly use it to also paint himself as a victim.

Now when its too late to make use of his brothers victim status to further his own aims he seems to have dumped him.

Does this not bother anyone?

It doesn't bother people here because as you can see, they hate Umar Akmal.

And, they think he should be banned because his talent got wasted and his discipline was bad. They abhor him for that, and want him banned for years even when he's not corrupt and didn't fix.

The same people wanted Amir and Sharjeel back at all costs. So, it's about who's performing at that specific time when they get banned.

Let me get this right. You support 3 years ban for umar?

After ICC ban, PCB on its own jurisdiction could have lengthen the ban on amir (which it didn't rather it was the opposite way around) which could have justified the ban of 3 years in umar now. But PCB seems to hold different standards depending upon how much the player is beneficial for the board.

- If the player is beneficial: give the minimum ban and then draft asap.

- If the player isn't that useful: give him the harshest punishment and end his career if possible.

According to some journalists, even Kamran Akmal has admitted to them off the record that even he gets frustrated by UA shenigans and the fact he just doesn't listen to anyone's constructive suggestions and advice and insists on doing his own thing.

One reporter disclosed that Abdul Qadir UA father in law pleaded with him to talk some sense into UA.

Lol if you continue behaving like a dirt bag, eventually even your loved ones will turn against you

Majority of Umar Akmal’s ban could be suspended

While a three-year ban was imposed on Umar Akmal for failing to report corrupt approaches, there are chances the judge will suspend most part of it.

Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal could have a part of his three-year anti-corruption ban suspended when the judge heading the Pakistan Cricket Board’s disciplinary panel gives out his detailed judgement soon, a source in the PCB has said.

After the hour-long hearing of the panel held on Monday in Lahore, where Umar appeared himself to plead his case, Justice (retd) Miran Chohan announced a three-year ban on the batsman for failing to report corrupt approaches.

“People are jumping to conclusions about the three-year ban but the detailed order is yet to come out. Umar might eventually get a three-year ban with two years suspended or something like that,” the source told PTI.

He said there are chances the judge will suspend most part of the three-year ban given the clauses under which Umar has been charged by the Anti-Corruption Unit and also given his past track record.

“Umar could get a suspended sentence in his three-year ban because this will also test him as an individual to see how he behaves and conducts himself in future,” the source said.

“When majority part of a ban is suspended, the player has to be careful with his behaviour or he could end up being banned for the entire duration of the ban, he explained.

Umar has the right to appeal against the panel decision 14 days after he gets a copy of the detailed judgement. His appeal will be heard by an independent adjudicator to be appointed by the board.

Two years ago, the Anti-Corruption Tribunal of the PCB, headed by Lt. General (retd) Tauqir Zia, had also banned Sharjeel Khan for five years with half of the sentence suspended, which allowed him to make a comeback in the Pakistan Super League 5 in February.

Umar was suspended from playing in the PSL 5 on February 20 by the PCB in the spot-fixing approach case.

Comments: A 3 year ban with 2 years suspended, will be more acceptable to UA and his family. To his haters, it will be like he got away with it again given the epidemic the world is suffering from right now.

Haha not to his haters, just the well meaning public at large that wants Pakistan cricket to come clean. Can’t say I’m surprised though

No I dont support a 3 year ban, there is no denying its harsh for the crime (Which we know). Judge has given his justifications that PCB wants punishments to become more strict with regards to fixing issues and there is a strong case going around for probably life bans and even criminal charges to be incorporated going forward. Further judge said that Umar keep on justified and kept on giving excuses till the end rather than showing remorse.

That being said I think its alteast 1.5, 2 years too many considering what have been presented to the public. At the same time I think most of this excess punishment is probably mishandling of the case by Umar Akmal.

I have never been an Umar Akmal hater and rather created threads in trying to discuss how he could have been better utilized and even talked about how he was wrongly omitted from tests at only 21 years of age. However, the thing is life is only gonna give you so many chances and one day those lucky escapes were gonna end for Umar Akmal and that has happened I think.

He is hard done here first by himself when he opted to represent himself having no prior knowledge of law and then bit by the fact that it happened at the time when stricter punishments for fixing are being pondered over.

One of the only four level A+ batting talents to emerge since 2000s. Sad to how it all ended for Ummu but I hope he can go into that good night with a clean chit. That's all we fans can wish him now.

Umar has a right to appeal but he is probably fighting a lost battle.

He should just retire and play in T20 leagues.

He will need to have his ban reduced or pardoned if he hopes to retire with still any value to his brand.

But I agree, he needs to retire as soon as his ban is over and just focus on T20 cricket tournaments

They should just allow him to play league cricket. Poor guy needs to make money man.

I hope he's successful with his appeal. Others within Pak cricket have gotten away with far worse crimes.

Lol, i wish him good luck with this. Not sure franchises are going to be that desperate to bring in someone who is possibly mentally ill and could bring their whole brand into disrepute at any given time.

He might be able to play the small leagues. BPL, Afghan league, and maybe an offshoot T10 here and there, but that's it.

Lol nobody told Umar to go and represent himself in court.

Maybe he can now get the punishment he should have got the first time around? I don't know how appeals work. Would be good if someone with knowledge of law could chime in.

Yeah, but he's mentally ill remember? That should in itself be enough to mitigate his culpability.

Strongly doubt that he's gotten himself any kind of diagnosis between his last court date and now so that won't be a factor.

He elected not to have a hearing, just to be sentenced after pleading Guilty.

And then the PCB and its discredited Musharraf-appointed “judge” ambushed him by holding the hearing unlawfully anyway. With him unrepresented and with the unlawful hearing held in English, which he can’t speak.

I’m surprised they didn’t convict him also of killing JFK, Marilyn Monroe and Flipper the Dolphin.

He didnt but he didnt report straight away so should get punished to set an example for future players also hes a very controversial character

Being controversial doesn't justify meting out excessive punishments. Amir, Asif and Butt got even longer sentences but that still didn't stop others.

He needs better support around him. We already know he’s mentally handicapped thanks to Najam Sethi. Really a sorry situation.

Please tell me you are joking.

Like the original “judge”, the disgraced Khokhar is one of the Fake Judges appointed to the Supreme Court by Musharraf in violation of a Restraining Order.

And like the original “Judge”, Khokhar ran away into retirement when the long arm of the law caught up with him for his unlawful elevation to the bench.

So the Miscarriage of Justice caused when the previous disgraced “judge” held an unlawful hearing is to be reviewed by a judge who was part of the same illegally appointed batch who like his colleague retired in a hurry before he could be brought to justice.

Does Wasim Khan understand that these are not retired eminent judges, they are disgraced Fake Judges who retired before they could be sacked?

Well that’s fair.

Another of the same batch of illegally appointed Supreme Court justices, who like the Judge whose case he is reviewing also retired when he was about to be sacked.

This is about as fair and “independent “ as if the PCB has appointed a three man tribunal consisting of Mr Kamran Akmal, Mr Adnan Akmal and Mr Babar Azam!

It’s time to stop allowing the PCB to appoint judges: they keep picking the same bunch of disgraced Musharraf judges to review one another’s work.
