He should be batting at #3 or #4. Two down seems most realistic so I'm hoping he bats there, sandwiched between Fawad and Misbah. Maqsood seems like a better finisher than Akmal and should at #6.
Umar Akmal bats at no.5 in this game, however thanks to Azhar Ali's injury, he comes in just as the first ball of the 10th over is bowled..
Apparently the theory is Umar Akmal has been restrained from hitting centuries in ODIs since he bats too low down the order (at no.6)
Well, 240 balls remaining in the game.. What stopped him from scoring in this game..
His score was 0 in the first 12 deliveries he faced..
He survived a close lbw shout..
He edged it for 4 in slips
He hit Faulkner on the up which was a dangerous shot considering mid on was up..
in his 24 deliveries, not once did he look like someone who will carry on for long..
Coming too far across to play a ball on middle stump down the leg side, he didn't look like he had the shots to put the ball away for a single..
His dot balls were a plenty, he didn't know how to rotate the strike.. majority of the deliveries he faced were dots..
Nothing from his batting made you think this was a batsman who had the tools to be a no.3-4
His stats actually flatter him, he has a natural urgency to slog, he can't contain his shots.. when he has to bat for long hours he looks at sea, and honestly looks bored with himself..
There is no application in his batting, and the weight he has put on is not doing any favors on him either..
He is not doing Pakistan a favor by playing the long format (50 overs).. he should stick to t20s where its hit or get out for the batsman
