PSL Final: Unfair Contest?

Quetta ourperformed all the teams in the Tournament and now their squad is not full strength.

Zalmi has done well and they are together.

Isn't PCB responsible for their unbalanced and unfair contest? Shouldn't QG be allowed to at least field the team of their (first) choice without restrctions to make sure that this is an even contest?

Quetta could have said play final in Dubai but they chose not to object

Should've brought in better foreign players or even local. Or objected to playing in Lhr.

Would love to see their TTF XI get thrashed. Full of mediocre accumulators. Why pick them?

KP or Russow won't score for you always.

I'm glad that the Pakistani people can see this match in their own homegrounds but I'm sorry but this final is extremely unfair, to the sponsors of Quetta, fans, and the team.

Zalmi got to play using all of their foreign players, good on them to agreeing on coming to Pakistan but with Quetta's foreign players reluctant to come it leaves a huge dent in their batting department.

This final seems too politically charged in my opinion, cricket was not a winner here at all.

Yes I guess it all settled on the Quetta overseas players and their decision to opt out of travelling to Pakistan whereas Peshawar's players opted to travel.

The players that Quetta were left to select were nowhere near the quality of KP, Mills etc.

yep i agree a huge disadvantage to Quetta. PCB sacrificied a level playing field for the final for a political and PR victory. To avoid this type of situation next year they should clarify with all foreign stars if they are willing to go to Pakistan before they sign or bid for them. To have 4 new guys come into a team for a final is unheard of tbh u would never see this in another sporting final. There needs to be much better planning by the PCB next time.

100% unfair. A full strength team against a team down on 50% power

how is it Quetta;s fault

it was upon the teams to convince their players and Peshawar were more successful

Unfair with replacement players also, its not possible suddenly to make decision to fly to Lahore and appear in match at such a big stage without any match practice and that too in T20.

Agree with you but the replacement were not of the same quality but they weren't as bad as expected either.

I place the whole blame on the curators who despite having all the time in the world produced this pathetic excuse for a pitch. The final could have been much more competitive had the pitch not be the one India plays a test match on!

If the same situation happens next year, i.e. the tournament is held in the UAE with the final in Pakistan, I think the overseas players should indicate before the start of the auction whether they will travel or not (subject to change should there be a material change in security threat). At least that way the teams know what they are getting.

Quetta's fault.

Their local players are useless. They're not playing Umar Amin EVEN TODAY!

YOu shouldn't rely 100 percent on only your foreign players to win you matches.

Anwar Ali, Shafiq, Sarfraz, Shehzad, Nawaz..these guys cannot win you matches with batting!!

From political stand point this was a great match that needed to happen. From cricketing standpoint this match was a borefest.

When you try to bring poltics into cricket you should expect results like these. Next time PCB tries to do something like this they should first make sure the overseas players from each team are willing to go or not. Otherwise every PSL final will end like this.

Umar Amin is not even mediocre player

Sethi ruined the final and it turned out to be a huge flop. No contest, no entertainment.

Lol what?
It's a huge positive step. Next year all foreign commentators and even players will be ready to play in Pak!

This has set a great precedent for future. Massive massive benefit to Pak and psl

Let's see what happens in the future.

I was purely talking from a contest point of view, from cricket point of view it was a flop and very unfair to Quetta.

Not at all. This is precisely why Sethi is a horrible choice. He thinks money, fanfare, and inane PR. On cricketing terms this was a disaster! Is the quality and integrity of cricket important or just the entertainment? And this is precisely the problem with privileging T-20 league cricket. We are on the verge of not qualifying for the WC, were shattered in AUS and NZ and are celebrating the staging of a boring one sided PSL final. This is what a cricketing nation that once used to challenge the 80s WI and Aus at home, and won the WC has come down to. All the media branding and oozing nationalism parades aside, from a cricketing perspective, shifting this final was an idiotic decision. And ODI tournament and Test series (especially overseas) should be the yardsticks of measuring the success of PCB. On that front this administration has failed miserably.

From a sporting P.O.V this was a flop. But from a PR and Public Relations P.O.V and for political goodwill for PML N it has been a win. Its a shame the quality of the game had to suffer for this to be achieved.

He has taken the first major step in bringing cricket back to Pakistan. Now tell me in future when our players start playing in home conditions wouldn't it boost their confidence, self belief and determination to win in front of their families and friends.

I'm surprised people here are blaming Sethi to be money grabber, PR stunt, etc but the way I look at it is that he the only person I know from last decade or more in Pakistan cricket administration who has got balls to stand up to overseas threats and stand firm on his decisions.

Agree with you cant believe Amin was not given a chance throughout the tournament while his alternatives were Nasim and Shafiq

Darren Sammy and Samuels were brought; parachuter Zimbabweans would come anytime anyways. And this was no international cricket. And the cricket itself was screwed to make it happen. Just pointing the idiocy, no complaints.

I'm not blaming the teams here. Blaming PCB for being stubborn. Nobody can convince you if you feel threatened with your life.

If playing a lame final will give them "self-determination," God help such players. The cricket was compromised, the execution was mangled with the ridiculous idiocy of parachuting players into a team artificially for a final, and yes the media had a ball. But from a cricketing perspective, very sad that this is how low we have reached, a lame one-sided T20 league match is the touchstone of achievement.

Cricket was brought back to our country today and people are complaining.

For people saying that Quetta couldn't influence their players better, it's not their fault that they could not afford to make a more lucrative offer compared to Javed Afridis, Quetta's foreign players valued their lives more as well.

Brought back for 1 match. I fear there will be more attacks in the future and this will go to waste, similar to that Zimbabwe series where there was a blast midway.

All of this terrorism needs to be eradicated off the face of Pakistan before we decide to host matches. Bitter truth. Some people are too sentimental, you cannot overlook human life for cricketing nostalgia of watching high calibre matches in your homeground.

Not unfair. Both teams had 11 international quality players. It's just not their night tonight.

Playing a home game will definitely do a world of good to our local players. People underestimate the benefits of playing home games. Trust me the likes of Shahzads, Umar Akmals and countless others would play quite differently once they start playing in Pakistan. The attachment with the crowds, the knowledge of grounds and conditions all add up and believe me the timid attitude that we have noticed in our Pakistan cricket would be gone once they start playing at home and start winning games.

I hope Quetta's overseas players were watching with disappointment in this match. They could've gone and changed the team's fortune if they came; But imo they don't even care.

Nothing do with fairness.

Quetta couldn't convince their foreigners.

If these players used a bit of logic, it would be far safer to travel to Lahore with all the security than their home towns.

I think KP would be disappointed as at one stage he was pondering about traveling to Lahore for final. I guess he will admit that he should have gone. The others were clearly never interested in traveling.

Height of being biased.

At least 4 are major international stars. And it's a "START" of good things to come. The first DROP. It doesn't mean intl teams will start touring from tomorrow.

Even Danny tweeted he's coming next year seeing today.

And this step is HUGE. Learn to appreciate and give credit where due.

It was like the heart had been pulled out of QG, with no foreigners.

They should focus more on local players next time and not rely solely on foreigners.

Also, PZ would have still been the stronger team without their foreigners, which sums it up for QG.

QG has two blows

1. first their major 4 player were not playing today. what a team would do if two major batsmen, one major bowler and one opener suddenly refuse to play in final. any cricketing brain would understand what harm it could do.

2. the major blow which is almost criminal to me ( perhaps pcb wanted zalmi to win on any cost) is forcing sarfraz and co to play 4 international players.
so not only their regular players were out but they forced to include way less quality intl players in the final who had no practice nor previous interaction with team management and players/captain.

i am more than 100% sure that sarfraz wanted to play all local players instead of new intl players who arrived a day before. but instead he had to accommodate new players in the final in place of umar amin, asad, aizaz etc.

i didn't see much passion in QG players tonight which leads me to think they were looking disappointed and dispirited.

Zalmi wasn't the best team in the Tournament and they beat an under cooked under strength side which restricted them to a reasonable total.

With full Batting strength QG would have easily chased this down.

Farcical end to a Tournament.

Not 50% quetta was missing 95% of his team strength.
In both editions it's only the foreigners (and to some extent spin bowling on helpful pitches) who get them through, with rubbish local players' selection like this you deserve this thrasing.

Maybe they could have let players from other teams who were willing to go to Pakistan play for Quetta. Like Bopara for example. Or even good Pakistani players. A bit hard for the new international players to perform just coming in to play (so haven't got used to asian conditions) not to mention they are of worse standard too. I know it's not a great situation, but would have made the final more competitive.

Congratulations to Zalmi

However, one cannot help feeling that it was an unfair match. Quetta Gladiators were seriously imbalanced by the absence of KP and Rossouw. They also missed Luke Wright and Tymal Mills (although Emrit compensated well for him today). The players who took them to the final were not there.

Even so QG made a poor fist of the run chase. It was not a 90 pitch!

When you have played with certain players the entire tournament, (9 matches) to be exact, it sort of creates a balance, a combination.. when you distort that combination with 4 random players its never the same..

Chasing is an art and everyone is defined roles, when you know that 6 other batsmen in your lineup have no role defined whatsoever, it makes it impossible for the team to chase the total down... no one would replace a team in the final with 4 random players make up for the loss

Its akin to playing a football match one leg..

Quetta could have said play final in Dubai but they chose not to object

And then become the most unpopular team in Pak, doesnt work like that in real World.

It is what it is.

Quetta should have done better when it comes to recruiting domestic players, namely not relying exclusively on A'sad Technique and Anwar Sobers. Big fan of sarfraz but his friendship did cost his team

They should allow to select Player from Different teams , especially if they have Babar Azam , Sohail khan/M Amir / Rumman Raees , Imad Waseem. It can make Quetta team strong

Lmao unfair to them because for once they had to perform but they are to rubbish to do it?

no because there is more to a team than numbers. Team combination hota hai, confidence hota hai; there are many things... will repeat again --> Quetta local players were unlucky. It was not their fault that foreigners didn't come and they had to play with a very weak team.

PCB last minute disclosure hurt Quetta Gladiators in Final

PCB initially released long list of foreign players willing to play final in Lahore. Same given to Team managements to pick replacements. Quetta has picked from it.

But just before the final, after play off, Faisal Mirza, that Bald PCB guy who was also on stage while hosting draft, handed only 6 players list to Quetta and said these are only choices, select from it.

This leave Quetta management annoyed and they were unhappy with it. I don't know where the long list gone.

It was announced well before the play off that the list wasn't accurate when Cricinfo reported that some players weren't aware they had even been included on such a list.

disgusting from PCB if that's true. ye gormint bik gyi hai

Sethi ruined quetta chances they only had phateechar players to pick as replacement in the end.
