Because Pakistani cinema has been in absolute doldrums for the last 50 odd years and never really come into its own I think our people have missed out on a lot of things cinema can do. One of those things is the ability to echo the national narrative. One that reflects the national values and ideals of a nation-state.
Hollywood and Bollywood have for years been making jingoistic films that reflect their narrative. Now they may be jingoistic to us, but to them they are nationalistic films that reflect their values and give their people something to identify with. Waar, for all its flaws was a step in this direction. And Zarrar seems in the same vein which is why I'm looking forward to it.
