After months of strained relations between Islamabad and Washington, United States President Donald Trump on Friday said ties with Pakistan were “very good” at the moment.

The president made the remarks before boarding Marine One from the White House’s South Lawn.

When asked about Washington’s relationship with Islamabad, the US president said the administration will be meeting with the leadership in Pakistan. “Pakistan – we will be meeting with Pakistan,” he told reporters.
“I think our relationship right now is very good with Pakistan”, he added.

Relations between the two countries were tense, however, recent efforts have reset the troubled ties. At the heart of their stalemate was the US insistence on Pakistan to ‘do more’ to bring the Afghan Taliban to the negotiating table.

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, on a mission to expedite the Afghan peace process as the war in the war-torn country enters its 19th year, has made several trips to Pakistan and held meetings with top leadership as part of Washington’s renewed push to bring the Afghan Taliban to the negotiating table.

Earlier this year, a three-day parley was attended by representatives of the Afghan Taliban, the US as well as officials from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The talks were faciliated by Islamabad.

It was the first time that the Taliban’s military and political leaders attended a negotiation – something that has renewed hopes of a possible peace deal. Previously, the Taliban were only represented by their political office in Qatar.

The presence of the Taliban leaders like Mullah Amir Mutaqi, Qari Yahya, Mullah Mohibullah Hamas and Mullah Abbas Akhund at the UAE talks suggests the seriousness of the insurgent group towards the latest round of discussions.

Quite garbage mentality to celebrate death even if that is of the "enemy".... that is against humanity and even teachings of the Prophet (P.B.U.H). Yet you call yourself "defender of Islam ... ". Good joke.

The two soldiers who lost their lives were just following orders and weren't there on their own free will.

How would you feel if tomorrow people start celebrating death of our jawans?

Oh please!! You want me to feel sorry for those who have killed innocent people themselves and perhaps even raped so many ladies? Keep your sympathy for the suffering Afghans instead of these invaders who shouldn't be there in the first place. I will tell you that in past wars involving Muslim countries many cruel people were also killed as well from the battle of Badr lead by the Prophet of Allah(saw) himself. Yes I will joyfully celebrate when your American invader brothers who you love so much meet their end. You love and respect them so much then invite them to dinner at your place. What a dumb thing to say comparing our soldiers who are not invaders of any country to the American war machine who have also killed many of our boys over the years through the Pak Taliban if not directly. If they were stupid enough to invade someone else's country they got what they deserved. Next you will tell me that the Indian soldiers in IoK are angels as well.

This excuse of following orders does not take away ones personal responsibilty. Nobody is forced to join the armed forces of the US and nobody is forced to shoot old women or children in the back.

I assure you if the US army had been in Karachi for over 16 years, terrorising your neighbourhood and family, you would celebrate any soldier killed by people of Karachi defending themselves.

Anyway back on topic. Trump has realised Pakistan holds the cards in Afghanistan.

They are an occupying force, all such deaths must be celebrated. You celebrated the capture of Abhinandan wholeheartedly even though he was also 'following orders'

I guess you are confused. Pakistan army treated Nandan way better than Indian themselves after shooting down the plane. Syed may have celebrated the capturing of the pilot, not his plight I am sure You are mixing things.

Secondly, only SOME army men are rotten eggs in ALL professional armies - be it USA, RUS, CAN, IND or even Pakistan. Our history shows that we have been involved in war crime and are not bunch of colossal saints. All I am saying that death is not something to celeberate and such is against teaching of all major religions including Islam of course.

Being part of An illegal occupation is enough justification, nothing else is needed.

Trump just wants to get out of Afghanistan before the elections and that will seal his win in 2020. After America pulls out of Afghanistan they will throw Pakistan under the bus, maybe even put sanctions over nuclear weapons. Pakistan needs to play its cards right here.

Very well said

Brilliantly put.

Although Trump need not worry much about 2020 as he has practically won it already.

What should Pakistan do though?

For me Pakistan needs to somehow get Iran on the same page. Iran is a friend we lost long time ago.
