Using tape instead of regular grip for bat handle

So the rubber grip one of the bats I bought got ripped really badly. I'm not in Pakistan currently, so I can't just buy another grip. Is it viable to wrap the bat handle with the thick red electrical tape as a substitute?

I'm sure with a bit of perspiration from hands will turn your bat into a rocket launcher so don't think that will work.
