Value of human life in india

India has the most pathetic roads in the world. Combine that with the general carelessness of our drivers , it results in valuable loss of lives.

I have been to so called dirt poor nations in Caribbean and even they have better roads and sanitation than India.

Until our population gets to a manageable levels, nothing we build will be enough to sustain 1.35 billion people.

India's optimal population is probably 50 to 100 million max, gettin down to that number will take over a millenia

Population is not the problem for us. It never was and it never will. We have enough habitable and cultivable land to meet their basic needs. Problem is our inbred carelessness and "chalta hai" attitude from the top to the bottom levels of our establishment. Add to that the corruption in the political and administrative field and we've got an absolute mess which looks impossible to tidy up.

For years roads were neglected by successive govts. It was Vajpayee who started the infrastructure development in roads. MMS again ignored it. Modi has again restarted it.

But even under BJP while highways have improved, suburban and urban roads still lag behind by a lot.

It needs a big effort from the central govt, state govts and municipalities before roads are of a satisfactory quality.

I am surprised and relieved that number is not higher. Drivers in that part of region are often quite careless.

This is the problem with sub continent folks, we fight over petty things and overlook the basic necessities. In Pakistan Karachi roads are probably worse than war torn countries Syria and Iraq. Modi won elections by bashing Pakistan but the people in India are still suffering and dying due to basic things. Wish our people had the brains to elect and produce better leaders who can enable the region to compete with the west and north east asia.

It's not the roads alone. The driving license administration in India is the world's biggest joke.
Any ***** can get a driving license in India. In many places, the applicants don't even have to go through the driving test nowadays. In places that still require it, the test is laughably easy to pass.

An overwhelming number of Indian driving license holders cannot drive properly. Some can't drive at all.

Hospital body warns suspension of cashless services to Star Health policyholders

The Association of Healthcare Providers–India (AHPI), which represents more than 15,000 hospitals and healthcare institutions nationwide, has accused an insurance company of engaging in questionable practices.

CHENNAI: The Association of Healthcare Providers – India (AHPI), representing over 15,000 hospitals and healthcare institutions across the country, warned suspension of cashless facility to Star Health Insurance policyholders over the latter’s questionable practices. The association issued a formal communication to Star Health Insurance on Friday.

The issues raised by the association include the insurer’s continued refusal to revise tariffs for several years despite high healthcare cost inflation, arbitrary withdrawal of cashless services, unjustified deductions from hospital bills and claim rejections after final approval. The hospital body has pointed out these issues may lead to compromised patient safety and quality of care by the member hospitals.

AHPI has warned that unless Star Health Insurance takes definitive steps to address the concerns expressed by member hospitals in a timely manner, AHPI and its member hospitals may withdraw cashless services for the policyholders of Star Health Insurance, effective from 22 September 2025.

In a statement issued on Friday, the hospital body also pointed out Star Health’s questionable practices.

“These include coercive demands to further reduce rates at the expense of patient care, unexplained deductions on approved claims, and abrupt withdrawal of cashless services from member hospitals. Collectively, these practices have caused serious disservice and hardship to patients and their families,” said the association in the statement.

To buttress its point, AHPI cited the Insurance Ombudsman Annual Report 2023-24, in which Star Health Insurance topped the list with over 13,300 complaints in FY24, with over 10,000 related to partial or full claim rejections.

AHPI has raised similar concerns with regards to Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Care Health Insurance. The association has also expressed concern over the proposed GIC-led common empanelment process and abrupt stoppage of cashless services by insurers to pressurise member hospitals in lowering tariffs which it viewed as anti-competitive and lacking a sound legal basis.

Delhi crime: Woman brutally killed, man critical after shooting inside old slum area in Punjabi Bagh | Video

A shocking shooting incident unfolded in Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area on Saturday (November 15), when police received a distress call, DD number 113A, reporting two people found injured at House number 28B, Old Slum Quarters, Paschim Puri. Upon arrival, officers discovered a gruesome scene. Inside one of the rooms, 24-year-old Muskan was found lying lifeless on a mattress, with a gunshot wound visible on her head. In another room of the same house, a man- identified as 25-year-old Neeraj- was found critically injured, apparently having sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.

Emergency responders rushed Neeraj to the hospital, where he remains under medical treatment in a critical condition. Muskan, however, was declared dead at the scene.

Police investigation and initial findings

According to Delhi Police, the location, a residence within the Old Slum Quarters, has now become the focal point of a criminal investigation. The Mobile Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) personnel were summoned to collect evidence and conduct a thorough on-site analysis.

Early investigation suggests a case of intimate violence. Preliminary findings indicate that Neeraj, reportedly infatuated with Muskan, may have shot her in an apparent act of rage before turning the gun on himself. Muskan, sources revealed, was recently divorced and had been living alone in the house. Both individuals were acquainted with each other.

Authorities have not ruled out other possibilities, and statements from neighbors and family members are being recorded to establish the exact sequence of events.

Broader crime scene developments

In a separate development, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch spent the day at the Al-Falah University head office in Jamia Nagar, seizing several documents and administrative records as part of another ongoing probe. Investigators have asked the university to submit detailed records for scrutiny, with plans to share the findings with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Two FIRs have already been filed in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, the Special Cell of Delhi Police- handling the Red Fort blast investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)- has detained several individuals suspected of assisting Dr Umar in procuring explosives and facilitating his escape. Among those detained is a man identified as Faizan, also known as Furqan, apprehended from Mewat for allegedly aiding Umar during his absconding period.

What lies ahead?

Police teams continue to piece together both cases- the tragic shooting in Punjabi Bagh and the ongoing probes into suspected terror links and financial records. For now, forensic evidence, witness accounts, and digital data will be key in unraveling the motives and confirming whether the Punjabi Bagh shooting was indeed a murder-suicide attempt driven by personal motives.

Force-fed acid by husband, domestic abuse survivors wait for justice: A case study

There are hundreds of women who are facing a lifetime of pain because of these acid attacks where their spouses or in-laws fed them acid.

She was 18 when she was married off. Over the next three years, she suffered a cycle of physical assault, dowry harassment and abuse by her husband and in-laws, running back home to her parents and then being sent back after the husband apologised in front of the panchayat.

In 2019, just days after she gave birth to a baby boy, she found chats between her husband and a woman and confronted him – a decision which had catastrophic consequences. This time, her husband held her down in bed and force-fed toilet cleaner acid to her.

It is now 2025, and 27-year-old Rashmi is still fighting for justice and is unable to eat or drink anything. Her food pipe (oesophagus) and intestines are burned, and she has undergone multiple surgeries over the years. On 'bad' days, she finds it painful to even swallow her own saliva.

For 28-year-old Ruman, it was her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law who lashed her with a leather belt till she fainted, then force-fed her acid.

Worse still, the accused husband took her to the hospital and told the doctors that she herself drank acid after a fight.

She was in no shape to give a statement to the police for several weeks, and once she was able to speak, she had to convince the police that it was her husband and mother-in-law who attacked her.

The trial in the case is still pending, but Ruman, who has an artificial food pipe and severely damaged intestines, says her husband was "never even arrested" and has not paid the maintenance amount that had been ordered by the court.

Almost six years of mental agony following the attack, Ruman still has to visit the hospital every three months for "dilation" of her burnt food pipe, and cannot swallow anything except liquids.

These are just two stories out of hundreds of women facing a lifetime of pain because of these acid attacks where their husbands or in-laws fed them acid.

On Thursday, a PIL in the Supreme court raised the issue of survivors of such forced acid ingestion.

While the law recognises acid attack survivors who have been disfigured or lost eyesight or limbs, those women who have ingested acid are not covered under the compensation and rehabilitation policies created for survivors of acid attacks under the Persons with Disabilities Act.

The Persons with Disabilities act currently recognises individuals “disfigured due to violent assaults by the throwing of acid".

The PIL has sought court orders to fill the "critical legislative gap that prevents survivors of forceful acid ingestion from being recognised under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act).

"These individuals suffer from severe and lasting internal injuries that significantly impair their ability to perform basic life functions like eating, swallowing, and speaking; yet they are, under the existing set of laws, unable to access the statutory support systems available to other acid attack survivors," says the PIL filed through advocates Sija Nair and Anuj Kapoor.

On Thursday, while hearing the PIL, the bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi also expressed shock at the fact that trials in acid attack cases often take a long time.

Shaheen Malik, who is the PIL petitioner, was herself a victim of an acid attack in 2009, and now runs the NGO Brave Souls Foundation, which extends help to acid attack survivors.

Shaheen was attacked with acid by a stalker in 2009. The case in her case was finally shifted to Delhi in 2013, but the trial still remains pending.

Appearing before the Supreme Court on Thursday, Shaheen highlighted the suffering of acid attack survivors who have had to deal with a sluggish legal system while battling severe health issues and damage.

Shocked at the delay in trial and the difficulty faced by the survivors, the CJI called for a response from the Centre within one week. The top court has also sought data from all High Courts about pending acid attack trials and why these cases are not before the Fast Track Courts.

"If the national capital of this country cannot respond to these challenges, then who will do it? This is a mockery of the system," CJI Surya Kant said on December 4.

Speaking exclusively to India Today at her office, Shaheen pointed out the grave lapses in implementation that continue to allow hundreds of women to be survivors of acid attacks.

"Acid sale was banned on court orders, but you can get it anywhere. There are protocols that acid attack survivors must get immediate free treatment in all hospitals, but often the private hospitals drive them away saying they can't treat them. Even at government hospitals there is a long wait for treatment. These women need multiple surgeries and repeat treatment over several years, but the compensation has taken 3–10 years to be released. The rules are there that you have to give compensation and free medical treatment, but even the prosecutors tell these women to compromise the case, take some money and close the case," says Shaheen.

In a recent case, Shaheen told India Today, the woman who was subjected to domestic abuse and had been force-fed acid by her husband, finally agreed to compromise and live with the same husband, since she has a small child and does not have the money to take care of the child and herself.

“These are cases where the family or prosecutors pressure the survivors to turn hostile and withdraw the complaint against the husband. Since she cannot do anything on her own due to extensive burns, she has no choice but to go back to the husband because atleast he will take care of the child," says Shaheen.

The petition in the Supreme court has now pointed out that the survivors who have been forcefully administered acid are unable to obtain a medical certificate that quantifies their disability.

"Without this document, they are ineligible for various benefits and entitlements under various rehabilitation and support schemes offered by different states that are available to other acid attack survivors. This lack of recognition prevents them from accessing crucial medical care, financial assistance, and social support, further hindering their recovery".

I really do believe India has the worlds highest homicide rate

Uttarakhand's Khatima on edge after fatal stabbing during unrest, curfew imposed

A murder in Uttarakhand's Khatima has heightened tensions between two communities, prompting the authorities to enforce strict law and order measures in the area.

Tensions flared in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district after a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death during a clash between two groups at a bus station complex in Khatima. The district administration has imposed a curfew in view of the volatile situation.

The stabbing incident took place on Friday night when an argument between two groups escalated into a violent confrontation. During the clash, Tushar Sharma was stabbed to death, police said. Two other persons sustained serious injuries and were referred to a higher medical centre.

Following the incident, a group led by the Bajrang Dal allegedly set fire to a shop belonging to the accused and staged protests on the streets, forcing the closure of markets in Khatima. As the situation worsened, police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse protesters who had blocked the road, further escalating tensions in the town.

In the aftermath of the murder, tensions surged between two communities, prompting the administration to impose Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the area.

Amid the tense situation, the administration carried out an anti-encroachment drive under heavy police deployment, during which dozens of temporary shops were removed. Officials said the structures had been erected on encroached land, necessitating the action.

Security arrangements were tightened during the operation to prevent any untoward incidents, and vigilance has been increased across the area. Additional police force has been deployed in sensitive parts of the town to maintain law and order.

"A conflict took place here in which one person was stabbed to death. The police is investigating the matter and will soon reach the accused... The law and order situation is maintained. Several people are gathering and some of them are trying to spread anarchy... It will not be tolerated... We will listen to all the grievances but if peace is tampered, we will have to take strict action... We will soon nab the accused," senior police officer in Khatima, Vimal Kumar, said.

Khatima Circle Officer Vimal Kumar said the accused have been identified and will be arrested soon. He added that the law and order situation is under control and strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb peace.

Khatima is the home constituency of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and officials said the administration is closely monitoring the situation, with maintaining law and order remaining the top priority.

Bengaluru Techie Found Dead After Days; Neighbours Reported Foul Smell for Nearly 2 Weeks

In Manjunath Nagar, Bengaluru, police found the decomposed body of a tech professional who had been living alone for 15 years. Neighbors had reported a foul odor for nearly two weeks, initially suspecting it was from a dead animal.

Bengaluru News: A quiet residential lane in Manjunath Nagar was shaken on Friday after police discovered the decomposed body of a tech professional inside his rented home. Officers say the man, who lived alone, is believed to have died nearly 10 days ago, with the death going unnoticed until neighbours raised concerns about a persistent foul smell drifting through the area.

Discovery After Days of Concern

Residents of Third Cross had been troubled by a strong odour for almost two weeks, initially assuming it came from a dead animal in a stormwater drain or on a nearby terrace, as per a HT report. Some even poured water into the drain, hoping it would clear the smell. But when the stench only intensified, attention turned to a single house that had remained shut for days.

The landlord finally approached the police, reporting that the tenant’s home was locked from the inside and no one had seen him step out.
Police Investigation Under Way
Vijayanagara ACP Chandan told HT that officers forced entry into the house and found the man’s body in an advanced stage of decay.

“The deceased had been living in the house for 15 years. His mother died three years ago. He was an MSc graduate in computer science working with HP,” the ACP said. The body has been sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem, and a case of Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been registered at Basaveshwaranagar Police Station.

Police have informed the man’s relatives and are awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause and timing of the death.
Neighbours described the man as someone who mostly kept to himself. With his mother’s death three years ago, he had been living alone, a detail that now explains why his death went unnoticed for days.

Alcohol, Drugs, Affairs: Wife Of Governor's Grandson Alleges Dowry Harassment

Divya Gehlot, wife of Devendra Gehlot, grandson of Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, claims that once she reached her matrimonial home, she discovered her husband was addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Bhopal:
Divya Gehlot, wife of Devendra Gehlot, grandson of Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, has levelled grave allegations of dowry harassment, attempted murder, domestic violence, and abduction of her minor daughter.

The matter reached Ratlam Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar in Madhya Pradesh, where Divya submitted a written complaint seeking urgent action and the safe return of her 4-year-old daughter, who she alleges is being forcibly kept by her in-laws in Ujjain district's Nagda.

According to Divya, her husband Devendra Gehlot (33), father-in-law Jitendra Gehlot (55), a former MLA from Alot, brother-in-law Vishal Gehlot (25), and grandmother-in-law Anita Gehlot (60) have been harassing her for years over a dowry demand of Rs 50 lakh.

She alleged that before marriage, crucial details about her husband's alcoholism, drug addiction, and alleged affairs were deliberately concealed.

The couple married on April 29, 2018, in Tal (Alot), under the Chief Minister's Kanyadaan Yojana, in a ceremony attended by senior leaders, including Thawarchand Gehlot, then Union Minister and former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Divya claims that once she reached her matrimonial home, she discovered her husband was addicted to alcohol and drugs and had relationships with other women. She alleges physical violence, mental torture, and repeated taunts demanding the promised dowry amount.

Divya states that the harassment intensified during her pregnancy in 2021. She alleges she was often denied food, beaten, and mentally tortured. Even after the birth of her daughter, the alleged abuse continued without pause. Although a settlement attempt was made in 2019, Divya says "nothing changed; things only got worse."

In her complaint, Divya recounts a horrifying night on January 26, when her husband reportedly returned home drunk. He allegedly assaulted her brutally and threatened, "If you don't bring money today, I'll kill you." Divya claims he then pushed her off the rooftop. She fell into the gallery below and suffered serious injuries to her spine, shoulder, and waist. She alleges that she was not provided medical care throughout the night.

The next morning, she was taken to a private hospital in Nagda, where doctors declared her critical and referred her to Bombay Hospital in Indore. Divya alleges her parents were never informed and that her father was pressured to pay for the medical expenses.

Divya's biggest agony remains her daughter. She alleges that her in-laws have forcibly kept her 4-year-old daughter and do not allow her to meet the child. She says that when she visited the school in November to see her daughter, her husband stopped her and warned her, "Unless you bring money from your parents, you cannot meet your daughter." She pleaded in her complaint, "Only a mother can properly care for her child... I want my daughter back."

Divya first approached Ratlam SP Amit Kumar, explaining that her parents live in Ratlam and she is currently staying there. However, since most incidents occurred in Nagda (Ujjain district), she was advised to submit a formal complaint to the Ujjain IG and Ujjain SP.

Ratlam Police, however, have accepted her application and forwarded it as required.

Reacting to the allegations, former MLA Jitendra Gehlot said only briefly, "Anyone can make allegations. I will present all the facts before the media."

I thought Dowry was illegal in India???:

Noida PG Murder: Woman Shot Dead for Refusing Marriage, Jilted Lover on the Run

A 25-year-old woman was tragically shot in her Noida paying guest accommodation, allegedly by her partner after she declined his marriage proposal. Identified as Krishna, the 26-year-old suspect fled the scene, prompting police to establish multiple teams for his capture. The incident escalated from a heated argument during Krishna's visit to Sonu's room.

SP Belagavi, Bhimashankar Guled said, "Yesterday, a minor girl filed a complaint with Murugod police station stating that a person raped her. Along with that, another person assisted him. After receiving the complaint, we took both accused into custody for questioning."
He added, "The minor girl gave her statement in the presence of a female officer, and we have arrested the two accused, Manikantha and Iranna, and initiated legal procedures. They are already under arrest."
The SP further said that they need to investigate why the complaint was filed late. "Usually, in such incidents, children may be in shock and may not open up immediately, or some parents may hesitate to come forward due to concerns about their dignity."
"These are the patterns we have observed. We need to investigate the reason for the delay in filing the complaint and whether the incident occurred as stated. But as of now, it appears to have happened," he continued.

Really sickening, these are far too common in india, do you agreee fellow indians:

Father Who Danced With Daughter's Boyfriend On Ambedkar Jayanti Now Arrested For His Murder

Gajanan Mamidwar is accused of plotting the murder of his daughter's boyfriend, Saksham Tate. In a video from April 14 that has now gone viral, he can be seen dancing with the young couple during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations.

Seven months after he was recorded on camera dancing with his daughter and her boyfriend on Ambedkar Jayanti, Gajanan Balaji Mamidwar is now in custody, on charges of murdering him in Maharashtra's Nanded.
According to his daughter Aanchal Mamidwar, her boyfriend Saksham Tate was betrayed by her family as they pretended to like him and "gained his trust" before killing him. "They would be nice to him, eat together. They convinced him that all is well. We had no idea something like this would happen," she said. The couple had been together for three years.

Aanchal also alleged that her father once told Saksham that to marry her, "he would have to convert to our religion, Hindu Dharma".

"Saksham was ready to do everything to marry me. But I don't know what happened."

Aanchal on Friday married the corpse of her boyfriend, a day after he was shot dead by her brothers, and demanded capital punishment for the accused - her own family.
In the April 14 video going viral online, Gajanan can be seen dancing with Aanchal, 21, and Saksham, 20, during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. Ambedkar Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, celebrated across communities, including Dalits and Adivasis. Saksham Tate was Dalit, while Aanchal belongs to the Special Backward Class.
In one frame, Gajanan can be seen affectionately hugging Aanchal, and in another he can be seen being carried by Saksham's friends on their shoulders.
Aanchal revealed that right before killing Saksham, her younger brother took her to the police station to file a complaint against him. However, Aanchal refused to do so and said that two police officials then "provoked her brother" to not waste time and instead go and kill Saksham.
She said that her brother reacted instantly. "Then he killed him."
Saksham was shot Thursday evening, with a bullet piercing his ribs.
Aanchal's father and her two brothers have now been booked for murder. One of her brothers - who reportedly fired the shot and smashed Saksham's head with a tile - is a juvenile.
The accused have been charged with murder, unlawful assembly, rioting and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Arms Act, an official from Itwara police station said.

These things are all happening in India due to Hindutva and Modi right? Anyways, if you expect me to send laanats, I will send a million of them on those criminals.

Look at your country Bangladesh and tell me how good it is going there.

Anyways, crimes happen in all countries and there are molesters, rapists, murderers and arsonists in every country. What do you expect me to say?

So you have nothing to say. The only thing you could come up with was a kindergarten-level cope calling me Bangladeshi even after I clearly told you I am not. I knew you were weak and would fold sooner or later, lol. Step aside now and let the other three respond.

I have nothing to say about crime. It is there everywhere. Just look at the crime in a first world country like US.
As long as the culprits are getting strong sentences, there is nothing anyone can do unless India adopts a surveillance state like China.

What kind of answer was that? And bolded part shows who got triggered. I am not even a Bangladeshi yet you had to bring Bangladesh into discussion, lol. Kindergarten level cope.

I tagged a few NRIs to hear their views on the 'value of human life in India'. You are actually in a better position to comment, since that was one of the reasons you moved abroad and still choose to stay there instead of coming back. Now let's debate. Let's see what you have got. However, there is another option for you. You can call me a Bangladeshi again and run away like you always do. :yk :inti

Haryana Woman Killed Four Kids, Including Own Son, Over 'Good Looks'; Held

Panipat Police arrested a 34-year-old woman for murdering four children, including her own son, over a period of two years. The woman confessed she was driven by jealousy towards children who were "more attractive" than her own.

A Haryana woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of murdering four children, including her own son, over "good looks". The woman, identified as Poonam, confessed to the police that she felt an urge to kill children who were "more attractive" than her own, and murdered her own son as she feared he had seen one of the murders.
The breakthrough came on Tuesday when a six-year-old girl was found dead at a wedding in Naultha village in Panipat's Israna tehsil. The child, identified as Vidhi, was discovered in a first-floor store room by her mother and grandmother, with her head submerged in a tub of water.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital by her father, where she was declared dead. A board of doctors at the hospital later flagged signs of homicide.

Based on a complaint filed by the grandfather, a case was registered against unknown persons at Israna police station.

Poonam Questioned At Venue

A police team reached the spot and questioned everyone at the venue. Poonam, who is also Vidhi's aunt, was present at the venue and was questioned.
The police noticed contradictions in her statements.
Under sustained questioning, Poonam confessed to not only killing Vidhi but also the other three children - all of whom were drowned in similar fashion.
Investigators say that Poonam, married in 2019, first drowned her sister-in-law's nine-year-old daughter, Ishika, in a water tank at their Bhawar home in Sonipat in 2023. Later that year, she killed her three-year-old son Shubham, fearing that "he might reveal the truth".
The family had believed both deaths were accidental.
Police say Poonam later targeted another relative - her cousin's six-year-old daughter, Jiya - and drowned her in August this year at her maternal home in Siwah. That death, too, was initially treated as an accident.
According to investigators, Poonam maintained the same method in all four killings, each involving a tub or water container inside a home.

Hyderabad Goldsmith Shot After Refusing Autorickshaw Driver’s Demand for Rs 300 Extra Fare

A violent confrontation over an auto-rickshaw fare in Shamshabad left a 36-year-old goldsmith shot and seriously injured on November 20. The incident escalated after a fare dispute arose when the driver demanded Rs 800, prompting the goldsmith to negotiate a lower price. After a heated exchange, two passengers attacked the goldsmith, leading to one retrieving a firearm and shooting him in the abdomen. The police acted swiftly, arresting the assailants and recovering the firearm and the victim's mobile phone shortly after.

Hyderabad: A late-night dispute over an auto-rickshaw fare in Shamshabad escalated into violence after a 36-year-old goldsmith from West Bengal was shot and seriously injured in the early hours of 20 November. Hyderabad Police confirmed the details on Friday, stating that two men involved in the attack had been arrested within a day of the incident.
The shooting occurred around 1 am near the goldsmith’s under-construction home in Shamshabad mandal. The victim, who currently lives in Gansi Bazar near Charminar, had gone to supervise construction work on 19 November along with a relative. After finishing for the day, the two hailed an auto-rickshaw and asked the driver if he could take them to City College.

Trouble began when the auto driver demanded Rs 800 for the trip, while the goldsmith countered with ₹500. When the driver refused and was asked to leave, two passengers travelling in the auto stepped out and intervened aggressively. According to the police, the duo hurled abuses at the goldsmith and his relative, assaulted them, and in a sudden escalation, one of the men fetched a firearm from the auto-rickshaw and shot the goldsmith in the abdomen, causing severe bleeding. The second accused then grabbed the victim’s mobile phone before both fled the spot in the same auto.

Despite his injuries, the goldsmith managed to call Dial 100, and police teams reached the location promptly. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors successfully removed the bullet. He is currently reported to be in a stable condition.

Shamshabad Police confirmed swift action in the case. “Within 24 hours of the offence, the two accused persons were arrested and the firearm used in the offence was seized. The complainant's mobile phone was also recovered,” a police official said.
The seized weapon has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
