Saj spoke to Pakistan batting coach for the tour of Australia in an exclusive interview:

"I understand the Pakistani culture & people – they are fighters and competitive": Adam Hollioake

Topics discussed:

How the opportunity to become the Pakistan batting coach arose.
Why he's looking forward to the challenge of coaching the Pakistani batters.
The tough challenge that Pakistan faces during the Test series in Australia.
The opportunity to work with the likes of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
What he plans to work on with the Pakistani batters.
His experience of the Pakistani cricketing mentality and mindset.
Don't write-off Pakistan in Australia despite it being a tough assignment.

So what changes/improvements can we expect due to his appointment?

Apparently he was the Queensland batting coach recently so at least he's not a coaching novice unlike the consultants Ramiz hired.

He got hired for one of the most difficult tours of Pakistan so let's hope he will get settled in this roller coaster.

Pakistan’s main issue on Aussie wickets is bowling and yet all the focus is on batting coach.

Not an easy first assignment with the team. I hope he does well on the Australian tour and his presence help our batters to perform at their best.

Finally a proper coach rather than whoever is the most recently retired Pakistani cricketer.

Am I missing something? Have barely heard from this guy. It's almost like his hiding behind the players.

What would you like to hear from him and why?

His job is to work with the batters.

He did do one presser which we covered on this forum

I'd like him to come forward and explain why we were shot out for 89 all out last test.

I'd like him to take some ownership at least for the woeful batting performances so far and explain what his doing with the boys.

Fair point.

I am sure questions will be asked of him next time he shows up on a presser.

Batting coach was out there batting? No? Well, there is your answer. I am not sure what realistic expectations are there for a batting coach who's been here for few weeks to suddenly change everything. Even minor technical changes requires a lot of practice over weeks & months for players to adapt that muscle memory. No batting coach is going to be some sort of magical whisper and turn a bunch of scrubs who are always awful in Australia to be amazing suddenly.

And that pitch on day 4 was completely absurd. Any team would be bundled out quick on that pitch vs that bowling attack.

What exactly has he done for the batters?

What strategy has worked out for them on this tour?
