[VIDEO] Air India passenger plane ‘carrying up to 242 people heading for UK’ crashes in fireball near Ahmedabad Airport

BBC interviewing one of the family members of the vicitms in the UK. The poor bloke is devastated, and the idiot reporter keeps asking him how he feels, he is also a relative of the survivor. What the hell is the purpose of this reporting and pestering the man how he feels about the loss of the family member and how he feels one survived.?

Gutter media.

Vijay Rupani considered 1206 his lucky number. His first scooter had the registration number 1206, and he made it a point to use this number on all his vehicles thereafter, including cars and scooters.

Vijay Rupani died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The date, 12-06 (June 12), matches his lucky
number 1206—a striking and tragic coincidence noted by Gujarati media.

Tata Group Announces Rs 1 Crore To Kin Of Each Air India Ahmedabad Plane Crash Victim

The Tata Group said it will cover medical expenses of those injured and provide support to rebuilding the hostel of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad

The Tata Group on Thursday announced that it will give Rs 1 crore to the families of each victim killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. More than 200 people on board the ill-fated flight going to London, were killed as it crashed into a residential area in Meghaninagar.

According to a social media post, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said the Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the each of the families who have lost their loved ones. All medical expenses of those injured in the accident will also be covered, it said.

One crore is about £8000 or £80000?

No amout of money will bring back the dead

My condolences to the families of all those who were lost in this tragedy, both on the plane and in the university.
I love flying and traveling so it's always sad to see such occurrences. God willing this will never happen again.

Expecting a full investigation but best I can tell it was either pilot error or mechanical error. Apparently it was a new plane so it's unlikely to be mechanical issues, but Boeing has been known for screwing things up in recent times.

Says the idiot who is saying he will buy tickets for 11a from now on.

Again, where are all the Indian posters who made Tata their abu?
Tata should be held responsible and sued into oblivion.
Saw a video from another passenger who was on the same plane from Delhi to AMD few hours earlier and apparently nothing was working not even air con.

British MP raises safety questions with Air India, UK aviation agency

Shivani Raja, a British parliament member who represents a district in Leicester, in the East Midlands, says she raised questions about the safety of the Air India flight.

“This flight route is very popular amongst the British Gujarati community, and many have been left understandably shaken by today’s horrific events,” Raja said in a statement shared on X.

“My office remains open to support local residents who have been impacted.”

As we’ve been reporting, officials say 53 passengers on board the Air India flight that crashed were British nationals.

The pilot was an experienced I very much doubt it could be pilot error .

It's. Boeing that needs to provide answers

I Believe they had a few problems with this dreamliner inception

Westerners getting a free racism pass today. Too many sickening comments against India and Indians on social media.

I hope we never stoop to these levels when we have grown to a position of strength but these times will never be forgotten.

You sanghis do the same. You are the worst. Just check on Twitter.

Sanghis literally support deaths of Palestinian women and children.

Anyway, this is not the thread for point-scoring. So, I am dropping the topic.

Girl killed in plane crash was 'ray of sunshine'

A four-year-old girl who died in the Air India plane crash has been described as a "ray of sunshine" who "lit up the classroom".

Britons Akeel Nanabawa and Hannaa Vorajee died alongside their four-year-old daughter Sara when a flight bound for London's Gatwick Airport crashed, family members told the BBC.

Abdullah Samad, headteacher of Sara's primary school, paid tribute to the Gloucester family.

The plane was carrying 242 people when it crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, in western India.

'Touched lots of people'

Mr Samad, who is also imam at the Masjid E Umar mosque, told BBC News the family were on a surprise trip to India and had not shared details of their visit.

"We were praying, hoping they weren't involved because miracles can happen and our prayers are continuous but our expectations are also realistic," he said.

Mr Samad said the married couple were well-known for their charity work and generosity.

"They touched lots of people and they will be missed by lots of people.

"They helped fundraise for the humanitarian efforts in Gaza and medical care for poor individuals in India. That was part of their service to the community," he said.

'Profound loss'

In a statement published online - Gloucestershire Muslim Bereavement Council (GMBC) said it was "profoundly heartbroken" by the "devastating loss of life".

The spokesperson added: "During this moment of overwhelming sorrow, our hearts go out to all those left behind.

"No words can truly ease the pain of such a profound loss, but we pray that the family may find solace in the tremendous outpouring of compassion and solidarity from communities across the world.

"May their cherished memories provide comfort, and may they rest in eternal peace."

A local police chief told BBC News 204 bodies had been recovered in Ahmedabad. It is not known how many of those people were on the plane, or were on the ground when the plane crashed.

Air India crash to challenge 'world class airline' ambitions

The Air India plane crash on Thursday which left more than 240 people dead, the worst aviation disaster in a decade, will challenge the airline's ambitious campaign to restore its reputation and revamp its fleet.

After taking the carrier over from the government in 2022, the Tata Group unveiled plans to reverse years of underinvestment in an ageing and outdated fleet and create a "world class airline", as CEO Campbell Wilson has repeatedly put it, on a par with rivals like Emirates.

The turnaround has been aimed at tackling its myriad problems under government ownership including persistent flight delays, disgruntled customers, a shortage of spare parts, poorly maintained planes and years of financial losses.

The cause of the crash, the first for a Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab Dreamliner wide-body airliner, has not yet been determined and India's aviation minister said a formal investigation had begun. Air India has not commented on what caused the crash.

"Newer aircraft and better maintenance should be the hallmark for Air India to survive. Proper maintenance is what they should be looking into, because Air India has had a chequered past," said Vibhuti Deora, a former legal expert at India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.

That past includes, while under government ownership, a Boeing 737 flight from Dubai in 2010 that overshot the runway at a domestic airport and crashed into a gorge, killing 158 people. In 2020, an aircraft of its low-cost unit Air India Express skidded off a runway in India, killing 21 people.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told an international gathering of hundreds of airline executives in New Delhi on June 2 that the country's booming aviation industry stood at a crucial point.

On Thursday, Air India's website swapped its bright red colour scheme and logo for a more sombre black and grey one, covering it with a banner that carried the crashed flight's number: "AI-171".

"For an airline, the most important thing is the brand's identity with safety. This will be a major setback for the brand in that aspect," said Dilip Cherian, a communications consultant and co-founder of public relations firm Perfect Relations.

'DIFFICULT DAY'

With its maharajah mascot, Air India was once known for lavishly decorated planes and meticulous service championed by its founder, JRD Tata, India's first commercial pilot.

But after the mid-2000s the carrier's reputation worsened as its financial troubles mounted. It has flown wide-body planes with business class seats in poor condition and grounded some of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliners for a lack of spare parts.

When Tata regained control, the airline was "just in absolute shambles", its CEO Wilson told Reuters in a 2024 interview, noting that some of its planes hadn't had a product refresh since they were delivered in 2010-2011.

Air India has a 30% share of the domestic passenger market and a fleet of 198 planes, of which 27 are 10 to 15 years old and 43 are more than 15 years old, the civil aviation ministry told parliament in March. Air India Express had 101 planes, with 37% more than 15 years old.

The plane that crashed on Thursday was 11 years old, according to Flightradar24.

Rival Indian airlines such as IndiGo (INGL.NS), opens new tab operate newer planes.

Air India, which is part-owned by Singapore Airlines (SIAL.SI), opens new tab, has placed orders for 570 new jets in recent years and is in talks for dozens more.

While it has aggressively expanded its international flight network, it has also faced persistent complaints from passengers, who often take to social media to show soiled seats, broken armrests, non-operational entertainment systems and dirty cabin areas.

It has been ranked the worst airline for flight delays in Britain, where its departures were on average just under 46 minutes behind schedule in 2024, according to analysis of Civil Aviation Authority data by the PA news agency published in May.

It has also been reporting losses since at least fiscal year 2019-20. In 2023-24, it reported a net loss of $520 million on sales of $4.6 billion.

For now, Air India faces the task of investigating one of India's worst aviation disasters.

"This is a difficult day for all of us at Air India," CEO Wilson said in a video message on Thursday.

"Investigations will take time."

Seems like an attempt to divert attention and somehow connect it to the Ahmedabad plane crash. The andhbhakts are getting desperate to label it a terrorist attack. Truly pathetic. :facepalm :inti

India unlike UK can and will like hide any pilot error, as for strange reason they feel it would be embarrassing for their country. Sadly we may never know the truth.

Wasnt there a recent report of an Indian airline where the pilot wouldn't allow the passenger's to depart and kept them locked up for hours?

I would never use Indian airlines and only would use PIA as a last last resort.
There are now reports that the fuel may have been contaminated! This does explain dual engine failure and why there was no thrust.

787s and their engines have a turbulent relationship too.

If reports true then it points to maintenance and standards. The worst of all reasons.

Just seems like Mr Tata bribing his way out

You mean to say till date air tragedy happened around the world, it’s owner’s responsibility? It’s a good part on tata group, that they immediately offering compensation. IMO factors like bad weather, technical failures, turbulence, pilots errors etc are also responsible for air crash

Don’t think so…. IMO it’s birds striked engines…. As a lone survivor also heard big sound before crashing

'I walked out of rubble': Survivor on how he escaped Air India wreckage

The British man who was the sole survivor of Thursday's Air India plane crash said he managed to escape the wreckage through an opening in the fuselage.

"I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through that opening, and crawled out," Vishwashkumar Ramesh told Indian state media DD News.

Mr Ramesh, 40, was in seat 11A on the London-bound Boeing 787 flight when it went down shortly after take off in Ahmedabad, western India on Thursday.

Air India said all other passengers and crew were killed - including 169 Indian nationals and 52 British nationals. More than 200 bodies have been recovered so far, though it is unclear how many were passengers and how many were from the ground.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Ramesh said the lights inside the aircraft "started flickering" moments after take off.

Within five to 10 seconds, it felt like the plane was "stuck in the air", he said.

"The lights started flickering green and white...suddenly slammed into a building and exploded."

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a building used as accommodation for doctors at the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College and Civil Hospital.

But Mr Ramesh, from Leicester, said the section he was sitting in landed near the ground and did not make contact with the building.

"No one could have got out from the opposite side, which was towards the wall, because it crashed there."

Video shared on social media showed Mr Ramesh walking towards an ambulance with smoke billowing in the background.

He told the Indian broadcaster he could not believe that he came out of the wreckage alive.

"I saw people dying in front of my eyes - the air hostesses, and two people I saw near me," he said.

"For a moment, I felt like I was going to die too, but when I opened my eyes and looked around, I realised I was alive.

"I still can't believe how I survived. I walked out of the rubble."

"When the door broke and I saw there was some space, I tried to get out of there and I did.

Dr Dhaval Gameti, who treated Mr Ramesh, said he was "disorientated, with multiple injuries all over his body", but that he appears to be "out of danger".

On Friday morning, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site before making his way to the hospital to meet injured people including Mr Ramesh, and the families of victims.

Mr Ramesh's brother, Ajay, was also onboard the plane.

Their other brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, told BBC News on Thursday from outside their family home in Leicester: "When he [Vishwashkumar] called us, he was just more worried about [Ajay]... that's all he cares about at the moment."

Mr Ramesh, a businessman who was born in India but has lived in the UK since 2003, has a wife and four-year-old son.

India is the first country (and only country) in the world to lose a Rafale jet.

India is also the first country (and only country) in the world to lose a Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane.

Will major companies stop giving India planes after their recent incompetency? I think they should.

India brings shame to the brand name by being incompetent.

Because its owned by Tata and most Indians claim Tata to be their Abu.

So they will blame Pakistan, Turkiye etc here but not Tata

Hindutva will blame their own parents, their pets, or the alignment of Saturn, but never the emperor of Hindutva. His image must stay divine, spotless, and forever floating 3 inches above the ground.

Om shanti.
Sad images of people affected, selfies before makes you think about life and how even in stable societies anything can happen.

They always have scapegoats ready. Self-accountability is a concept alien to them.

It is why they cannot become a developed country even though they have a large population and a large landmass. The mindset is very rotten.

'Traffic saved me': Student missed Air India crash by just 10 minutes

Bhoomi Chauhan, a 28-year-old business administration student from Bristol, narrowly escaped tragedy after missing Air India flight AI171 to London Gatwick by just 10 minutes due to heavy traffic in Ahmedabad. The flight, which crashed shortly after takeoff killing all 253 onboard and at least eight on the ground, was meant to carry her home from a holiday in western India.

“We got very angry with our driver and left the airport in frustration,” Bhoomi recalled. “I was very disappointed.” Despite having checked in online and arriving just before departure, she says airline staff refused to let her board: “I told them that I am the last passenger and so please allow me to board the plane, but they did not allow me.” Speaking to BBC Gujarati, she added: “This is totally a miracle for me.”

Quality over quantity. The large population doesn't amount to anything substantial. You look at their film industry, media production - mindless and primitive - catering to the large swaths of the population. I have never seen anything brilliant come out of india. It seems to be far far behind most countries but the indians are made to drink the kool aid of being the "4th largest economy"

Chest thumping about size of economy is very stupid. It doesn't show the living standard of a country.

For example, Peru and Bangladesh have larger economies than New Zealand. Does that mean NZ is worse? Definitely not. Indians would love to migrate to NZ if given opportunity.

India is a market powerful countries like to exploit for cheap labour. Indians think they are a force to be reckoned with when in reality they are cheap worker drones working for big corps based outside of india. India itself is not capable of producing anything to compete with the rest of the world

That’s a bias , I had it too that West is everything better.

Movies are made for mass in India yes, but there have been greats like Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan, Satyajit Ray , Bimal Roy that have made amazing movies.(Not including South Indian they have their own greats)

India currently is doing extremely well with furniture etc, unique designs available across US stores now.
Agree it’s not enough but last 5 years have been extremely good for Indian innovation and entrepreneurship, economic freedom and freedom from societal norms this is the first time in decades I’m excited for Indian youth.

Platforms like Zerodha, Postman and continuously publishing scientific papers will hopefully create a better India than for last 60 years. Everything takes time, and ofcourse the Mafias will remain, making them innovate is tougher.

Literally every company now has a back office in India, which is good overall because now Indians are not dependent upon TCS inFy etc for learning.

Thanks for the explanation even though my post was more like an attack. Obvisiouly I am being biased and there are a lot of positives about india. But in my view, India only has just started making the strides and has a long long way to go before it can create big waves but indians seem to think they are already there.

Boeing CEO cancels airshow visit as investigation starts on India crash

Boeing and GE Aerospace are scaling back their public activities following the fatal crash of an Air India jetliner, with the planemaker’s CEO cancelling his trip to the Paris Airshow next week and GE postponing an investor day.

More than 240 people were killed when an Air India Boeing 787 jet bound for London crashed moments after taking off from the city of Ahmedabad on Thursday, authorities said, in the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said in a message to staff on Thursday evening that he and Boeing Commercial Airplanes boss Stephanie Pope had cancelled plans to attend the Paris Airshow “so we can be with our team and focus on our customer and the investigation.”

The airshow, which runs from June 16 to June 20 at Le Bourget, is the global aviation industry’s largest trade show, where typically many aircraft orders are placed by airlines.

Ortberg had been due to attend for the first time as Boeing CEO since being appointed to lead the company out of a series of back-to-back safety, industrial and corporate crises.

Mr 11A.

I don't believe he is a survivor who was on board the plane. He is defo a bystander.

First the 787 blows up in a ball of fire, but Mr 11A in the 20 seconds or so, managed to open the door and jump out. Second if you believe Mr 11A is Mr Unbreakable, then his whiter than white Percil T-shirt and unscathed mobile phone and body should make you wonder otherwise.

Mr 11A is a feel-good patsy.

That was my initial thought. But then the airline would have denied it if he was not on board the plane. Surely they have record of who boarded etc...

Black box found at Air India crash site as families wait for answers

A black box has been found at the site of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, India's civil aviation minister said on Friday.

The flight data recorder was recovered within 28 hours by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu confirmed.

All but one of the 242 people on the London-bound flight died when it crashed into a residential area less than 60 seconds after take-off on Thursday. An official told the BBC that at least eight people on the ground were also killed.

"The [recovery of the black box] marks an important step forward in the investigation" and will "significantly aid the inquiry" into the disaster, Mr Kinjarapu said.

Planes usually carry two black boxes - small but tough electronic data recorders.

One records flight data, such as altitude and speed. The other records sound from the cockpit, so investigators can hear what the pilots are saying and listen for any unusual noises.

AAIB is leading the inquiry into the cause of the crash, helped by teams from the US and UK. Boeing's chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, said the company was supporting the investigation.

Air India said there were 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese and one Canadian on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft when it crashed moments after taking off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 13:39 local time (08:09 GMT).

Flight AI171 was scheduled to land at London's Gatwick Airport at 18:25 BST.

On Friday, the wreckage was still scattered across the crash site, including the blackened wing of the plane, with large pieces of the aircraft stuck in buildings.

Investigators arrived at the scene and crowds were moved further away from the wreckage.

A doctor told the BBC that they are relying on DNA from relatives to identify the victims. A police official at the post-mortem room told the BBC that the remains of six people had been released to families so far, as their relatives were able to identify them based on facial features.

The sole survivor of the crash, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who was in seat 11A on the flight, is still recovering in hospital.

"I still cannot believe how I made it out alive," he told India's state broadcaster DD News on Thursday.

"At first, I thought I was going to die. I managed to open my eyes, unfastened my seat belt and tried to exit the plane."

Mr Ramesh, 40, who sustained burn injuries on his left hand, said he saw the aircraft crew and its passengers die in front of his eyes.

Meanwhile, desperate families are still waiting for news of their relatives.

Imtiaz Ali, whose brother Javed and his family were on the flight, said that until he sees his brother's body, he will not believe he has died.

"If I get sad and start crying, then I'll be uncontrollable," he told the BBC.

"No-one will be able to stop me... my heart might burst."

The plane crashed in a residential area called Meghani Nagar and, even though it had just taken off, the impact was severe. Wreckage spread over 200m (656ft), according to responders.

It is still unclear exactly how many were killed on the ground, but the BBC has been told that at least eight people, who were not on the aircraft, have died.

Dr Minakshi Parikh, the dean of the BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital, said four of their students died as the plane crashed into buildings on the campus.

"There were also four relatives of our doctors who were on the campus when the aircraft crashed - they too were killed," Dr Parikh said.

"We are relying only on DNA matching to identify them and it is something where we simply cannot rush or afford mistakes.

"We are working with sincerity. We want relatives to understand, and be a bit patient. We want to hand over [the bodies] as soon as possible."

On Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent around 20 minutes at the site of the plane crash.

He did not speak to reporters afterwards but a video posted on his YouTube channel showed him walking around the site and inspecting the debris.

Modi also visited the location of a now-viral image that shows the tail of the crashed plane lodged in a building.

Earlier on Friday, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson also went to the crash site, later describing the visit as "deeply moving".

According to data by tracking website, Flightradar24, the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 had completed more than 700 flights in the year leading up to the Thursday's disaster.

The Air India plane was 11 years old and its most common routes included flights between Mumbai and Dubai, as well as the capital New Delhi and European destinations such as Milan, Paris and Amsterdam.

The plane had operated 25 flights from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick in the past two years.

India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has ordered additional safety checks on Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet, describing it as a "preventive measure".

Flying is my biggest fear in life. It is always a big sacrifice for me to travel by plane. Honestly, if I didn't have family in Pakistan, I would never fly.

This is such a sad tragedy and one of the worst ways to die. Condolences to the families of the victims.
Death is itself our protector , until it is decreed it cannot come.
