London is becoming unliveable. You are essentially existing in the city just to pay off the rich and older generation’s debt. If you earn 2K a month in London 300 will just vanish in taxes, 12-1400 will go out in rent and the rest will go out in bills (gas, electricity, water, council tax, tv license, internet, etc). So you are required to do part time jobs on weekends just to make ends meet. In such conditions some people will inevitably have extreme reactions to the wealthy class. That’s something that the policy makers need to sort out. There is a reason why so many jobs are advertised in London and no one to work them. Because those who are actually working are just over worked and there is no work life balance. The security guard at my workplace is 70 years old. Goes to show that pensions are not covering people’s basic need in this time of crisis. In short London is not a great place to live if you have an average income.

the last two years have been the worst, living expenses have gone through the roof. the biggest problem is wage stagnation, there has been virtually no real pay growth over the last ten years.

crime isn't just a problem with London, apart from a few super wealthy cities like Dubai, Monaco, etc, you are likely to get good stuff stolen.

there is a massive difference in visible police tho, u can go a whole day in london's residential boroughs without seeing a copper on the beat. wasn't like that when I was a kid.

having said that london still has some massive positives, but its certainly regressed from a decade ago. 2012 and the olympics was pbly the high point.

london is also becoming increasingly ghettoised, its impossible for anyone on an average salary to live in the inner city, when I was a kid I grew up in hackney, now an average family house there costs £1 mill.

growing up in suburbs might be nice for kids, but the city loses a massive deal of character and flavour when all the central parts are occupied by cookie-cutter yuppies.

Low income people should move to smaller cities where they can afford a place to live and raise a family. I know people who live in NY, San Francisco and they constantly crib about the cost of living. But they refuse to move to a smaller cheaper city.
If you cannot afford the cost, move out.

also special mention to sadiq khan, the most useless mayor in London's (admittedly) short mayoral history, if there ain't a photographer present, he ain't interested.

Just the sheer audacity of this is simply incredible.

Footage shows the shocking moment a millionaire was ambushed in broad daylight by thieves attempting to steal his expensive watch.

Abdullah F. Al Basman was attacked by moped riders carrying hammers while he was driving his £3 million black Bugatti Chiron sportscar.

The thieves smashed the Bugatti’s window with hammers after driving alongside the car. It is thought they were after his Platinum Rolex Daytona watch, which is worth more than £110,000.

The gang however appeared to be unsuccessful at the theft attempt, which took place after Mr Al Basman left the Berkeley Hotel near Park Lane in Mayfair, central London yesterday.

A witness said muggers followed the millionaire before launching the attack, adding: ‘The moped thieves were at the hotel this morning and staff told them to get off the pavement.

‘When Abdullah left in the Bugatti they started following him all the way to Hyde Park Corner. One beeped their horn which I assume was the signal to start attacking.

‘I assume they were waiting for a junction they knew would have a long red light so they had time to attack them.’

Other shocked drivers looked on while the attack took place.

Despite the damage caused to the car, Mr Al Basman is seen driving off while the thieves speed away down a side street.

It is widely known the millionaire, from Kuwait, has expensive cars and watches as he often posts images of them on social media.

Other videos surfacing online appear to show the same group of riders attacking another pedestrian in a nearby area.

No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Police are investigating a report of a robbery that is alleged to have occurred in Curzon Street, Mayfair, at approximately 4.50pm on Sunday, August 21.

These guys should be locked up and given some harsh punishments. Deport them if they are immigrants.

Lack of effective punishment is one reason why these people are like this.

You think immigrants would do this?

You think immigrants would do this?

Yup. That's not uncommon at all.

About 2-3 years ago, two Slavic immigrants badly beat up and injured a Muslim man in Mississauga.

When I was in high school, I have seen gang members (they were refugees and immigrants) used to fight and commit crimes.

Not all immigrants are submissive and law-abiding.

Almost looks like modern day French revolution.

Having said that i was seeing Sandman the other day and the year was 1789 and Englishmen were discussing :
“ If only the French nobles had played cricket with their men the way we do, they'd never have had this trouble.” lol

reading more - seems that this is just crime

but the audacity of this is amazing

Yup , that they think they can openly do that in broad daylight should be scary to residents of London.

I’m certain there can be middle ground, just because an immigrant is law abiding doesn’t mean he is soft and submissive.

It’s always wise to choose your battles.

London is either for the very rich or the very poor. Lower Middle class can't make ends meet and the middle class are struggling.

Of course we had our own revolution in 1665 and executed our King,

The monarchy returned a decade later.

If you cannot afford the cost, move out.

Low income households can’t just leave so easily. If you have a child and both you and your partner are working full time then you need to take into account how much you’ll be paying in child care cost to nurseries who specialises in taking care of kids under a certain age. In big cities where most of your extended families reside you have a structure of caregivers. If you live in London and your parents live here as well then you can leave your kids to your parents and go to work without paying extortionate amount of money to some nursery.
So any savings you end up having by moving out of London is nullified by childcare costs of moving out of London. So it’s not that simple.

Austerity breeds fascism and crime!

Though the video in the OP is nothing new. Jewelry stores have relentlessly been targeted by moped theives - this type of smash and grab crime is huge in central London.

I have lived in London for years and only moved out to west sussex last year in a beautiful countryside. Life is so peaceful here. Now when I travel to London sometime, I cant wait to get out from there :91:

There will be no revolution in the UK. The populace is simply too spoilt and easily distracted to revolt.

The next news event to capture the Brit imagination and engagement will be reg. plates on bicycles. By the time that's done we'll have PM Truss taking over and then it will be all about the Truss family, fashion, pets etc... Ignorance is bliss!

No wonder there is a class divide....

Richard Caring, the billionaire owner of the celebrity hotspot restaurant the Ivy and private members’ club Annabel’s, has won permission to close a main road in South Kensington, central London, in order to have dozens of trees planted in the grounds of his £40m mansion.

Caring, who has built up an estimated personal fortune of more than £1bn from his clubs and restaurants empire, which also includes the Sexy Fish in Mayfair, secured permission from the council to close part of Onslow Square for two weeks in order to install a crane to carry the mature trees over a row of neighbouring terraced houses.

David Erb, who lives on Onslow Square in a property overlooking Caring’s mansion, said it was outrageous that the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea was “acquiescing to the whims of a billionaire who wants a nice garden”.

“It is absolutely wrong that a single man, with a huge fortune is able to disrupt the lives of thousands of people,” Erb, a software developer, told the Guardian as one of the trees, estimated to weigh more than five tonnes, was lifted over his home. “They often close off the pavement as well and it’s beginning to feel a bit like we live behind a barricade.”

The road closure is the latest chapter in a five-year battle between Caring and some of the approximately 500 people who live in properties adjacent to his Park House mansion.

Designs for the house, which replaces a 19th-century cottage previously owned by the German industrialist heir Gert-Rudolf Flick, feature a large two-storey basement.

The basement alone contains a swimming pool (that can be converted into a ballroom), a beauty treatment room, steam room and store for summer clothes, according to plans filed with the council.

The council has already issued an enforcement notice on Caring ordering him to remove three “incongruous and dominant” windows, which it said “fail to preserve the character and appearance” of the conservation area.

It said it took breaches of planning rules “very seriously” and it had given Caring six months to comply. A spokesperson said the council “encourage residents to report any concerns they may have so that we can work with landowners to investigate and fix issues quickly”.

Onslow Square, which links South Kensington underground station to Fulham Road, is used by the 14, 49, 345 and 414 bus routes, which have all been placed on diversion. The road is also an important thoroughfare for ambulances carrying patients to the the Royal Marsden and Chelsea and Westminster hospitals. The emergency services had to be informed of the closure.

A spokesperson for the council said it “cannot unreasonably refuse” requests for road closures but added that it appreciated the inconvenience caused.

The council said it asked Caring to delay the road closure until August in order to minimise disruption to neighbours and the emergency services.

“Anyone can apply to us for a road closure, from residents wanting to lift heavy items into their homes to utility companies carrying out repairs and upgrades,” the spokesperson said. “While we cannot unreasonably refuse those requests, we appreciate that closures can be inconvenient and do our best to minimise any disruption.

“In this case, we publicised the closure in local media and on our website several weeks in advance and the applicant hand-delivered a letter to more than 600 homes in the area. We also encouraged the applicant to carry out the work during the school holidays to avoid disrupting school traffic and informed Transport for London and the emergency services of the planned closure.”

Regarding the planning rules breach, which was identified by neighbours in May, the council said: “Planning regulations exist to protect neighbourhoods. We take breaches very seriously and work with landowners to investigate and fix issues quickly.

“We have issued an enforcement notice in this case and this allow six months from the date of issue for the developer to amend their property to comply with the planning consent.”

Flick has described the house as “almost a country house in the middle of London”.

Several spokespeople for Caring and his Caprice Holdings company did not respond to requests for comment.
