[VIDEO] Allan Donald masterclass - His favorite batters and battles

What an awesome awesome bowler Donald was? Pity he wasted few of his golden years due to apartheid...

One of the best ever bowling actions he had!

whenever I hear Allan Donald , Shane bond's name pops up in my head.
I used to wonder about the connection. With your post I might have found the answer. "Perfect bowling action"

Very like John Snow in that regard.

One if those rare guys who was effective everywhere. Fantastic strike rate. Goodness know what he would have achieved had he not lost five prime early years to apartheid.

Great bowler - one of my favorites. Many powerful images of him bullying the best of batsmen with his pace. Unfortunately the memory that endures is 1999 wc sf.

One of my all time favourites. Seeing him run in was something else. Brilliant brilliant bowler.

AD did a very stupid thing against what was then an Amateur batsman. As we saw with Phil Hughes, batsman can be killed. No doubt the batsman was also stupid but AD needed to show more responsibility
I think we will look back at how dangerous cricket was back then and brief a huge sigh of relief that people didn't die.

I remember watching Brian Close get peppered by the WIndies in a documentary. When I was younger I liked it and found it thrilling, when I got older I found it a bit cruel and unnecessary.

I don't think there is any doubt that Donald v Atherton at Trent Bridge, 1998 takes the cake. It really was the irresistible force meets the immovable object, in a brutal and rapid spell from Donald where he just seemed to be seething throughout lol. But you have to tip your hat to Atherton for surviving that spell and coming out on top by playing a match-winning knock. It's rare to see a batsman take that kind of a beating and still keep fighting, but that's exactly the kind of grit that Atherton was known for.

If you haven't seen this great battle, I very much recommend finding it on YouTube.

I think if the batsman is full pro, then its upto him to assess the risk but in this case, he wasn't. He probably faced guys bowling at 80mph but nothing like AD.

Watched it at the time and it was just brutal. Atherton was incredibly courageous and statistics dont do him justice.
