Pakistan’s all format captain Babar Azam has been politely reminded about the policies of the Pakistan Cricket Board after he brought his younger brother to the high performance centre in Lahore and allowed him to have net practice.

Babar came under criticism after a picture was posted on social media that showed his brother Safeer in the nets with Pakistan pacer Shahnawaz Dahani bowling to him.

The social media post caused a ruckus as the PCB policies governing its high performance centre clearly state that only Pakistan players, first class players or junior cricketers can use the facilities and staff at the HPC with permission of the authorities.

“Babar came to the centre three-four days back with his brother and this was before the conditioning camp had begun. And his brother later held nets which was brought to the notice of the board,” a reliable source in the PCB said.

He conceded that since no Pakistan player was allowed to bring any of his relatives or friends to the HPC for practice, Babar was politely reminded about his indiscretion and told to not repeat it again.

“He is our national team captain and the matter was handled in a manner where he was politely reminded about the situation and he agreed,” the source said.

Babar has started having daily nets at the HPC in preparation for the coming international season with the PCB also inviting around 60 players in two batches to attend two week conditioning camps to prepare for the new season.

Babar’s younger brother is yet to make any impact as a player at a higher level.

Really professional stuff from PCB. I believe it was just a slight slip up from Babar but, it happens sometimes which is where the organizations have to play a role and as expected he understood.

There are more brothers and cousins?

This was blown out of the proportion by tanveer ahmad. Guy became jealous and as usual did a rant on social media about it.

Babar did nothing wrong. There is no harm in using such resources.

Its a general unspoken rule in cricket training. You need to have a partner that could do you throwdowns. After your partner hemps you out you repay the favour. Thats probably what happened.

Yes, maybe the azams should had not had recorded the video and posted it on social media which many of our current players have a problem.

Anyways, no harm done, and the pcb didnt have to issue a press release regarding this, they could had instead been diplomatic and told the public that it wasnt a big deal.

But as usual, pcb gets under the pressure of media and they take action against their own for ridiculous reasons.

Tanveer ahmad is an idiot. He talks about justice and what not all the time because he thinks he was cheated by the world as in his own world he has convinced himself he was one of the greatest bowlers of Pakistan who was robbed a spot and still whines about it till today.

Ironically, this is a guy who admits that when he lived in kuwait and his mom was a teacher, he would not attend that class and get his attendance fullfilles due to his mom.

The guy is a hypocrite.

Surely any player would get approval first before using PCB facilities.

This is a misuse of facilities and it’s good to see the PCB handle this professionally and not let it get blown out or proportion.

Tanvir Ahmad maybe a hypocrite but what Babar Azam did was also wrong.

Still a lot better than your Sons and Son in-laws playing for Pakistan without merit.

What is being used? Was someone else being stopped from being using the pitch and net

Babar and his brother should roll up to Tanveer's house and show him what time it is.

I'm sick of Babar always being a scared timid kitten.

His brother or anyone else arent allowed to use the pcb facilities unless they are authorised or allowed to

True but you know how it works in our part of the world, isn't it? Politicians get away with anything...so there is nothing wrong if Babar's brother used PCBs net for practice. If he becomes half the batsman Babar is...it will help Pakistan cricket itself. I think PCB over reacted.

Don't forget, people pay to watch Babar Azam bat. So he generates a lot of revenue for PCB. What is the harm if his brother uses PCBs facilities?

Wasnt Umar Akmal stopped from doing the same?

Whilst I do get the point, it’s hardly like Babar’s brother was using some crazy state of the art facilities here. The video shows that he was just using the nets. This session cost the PCB not one rupee. These same nets can be found all over Pakistan. The difference is that Babar can’t take his brother to any old nets, because he will be swarmed by crowds. So if he wants to practice with his brother, using the PCB facilities is the most sensible option.

Even if the PCB policy is not to allow public use of the facilities, I think exceptions should be made where sensible. Here you have the national team captain, the best batsman in Pakistan and arguably the best all format batsman in the world, and you are slapping his wrist for allowing his brother to use some nets. I think that’s just way over the top.

When I heard the news, I thought he was using some high-end equipment and practicing against bowling machines.

Turns out all he did was practice in a net that looks like it has been in use since the days of Imran and Miandad on an outfield that looks like a cattle-farm.

If this is how our “High Performance Centre” looks like than no wonder we are a rubbish team. Babar can afford better facilities in his own backyard.

Total non-story.

Hmm...so, policies should be based on the state of the facilities being provided? What a childish argument lol

The whole controversy centered around the allegation that he used HPC facilities, but turns out all he did was bat in an old net. That is it.

He didn’t use any of the state-of-the-art equipment/facilities (if they even exist in our HPC).

This was blown out of proportion by people who would have done a lot more if they were in Babar’s position.

They has to make it clear that otherwise its going to set a trend for others.
