Chemar Holder was the other young quick pairing with Alzarri Joseph during the u19 WC which WI U19 won in 2016. At 17 years of age in 2016 he was already 6 feet 4 inches, he was quick and created a lot of awkward bounce, I felt he was a much more talented bowler than Joseph during that tournament. Now to the main issue here, I have not heard from him since the U19 WC, Alzarri Joseph is now playing for the WI, has anyone heard of Holder or what happened to him ?.

He is playing and is quite close to the full team. In the Times recently they talked about him and Shakeem Clarke who is the son of the great Sylvester.

He should already be in the team in my opinion, I found some details about him finally on google:

Chemar Holder in Australia

Many young cricketers are going overseas placements to try and improve their game. This is something particularly prevalent in the England set-up, as youngsters like Ollie Pope and Will Jacks have played in Australia. Chemar Holder embraced this idea and spent the 2017-18 winter playing Grade cricket for Port Adelaide down under. He made an instant impact, taking 5/10 in nine overs on debut. Playing on fast, bouncy pitches, Chemar Holder had a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop his game.

Chemar Holder in England

While most of the world’s focus was concentrated on the 2018 international series between England and India, there was an equally exciting series taking place in England at the same time. This was a tri-series tournament between England Lions, India A and the West Indies A. Holder played most of the matches for the West Indies, taking 3/42 against Worcester in his first match in England. His spell of 3/70 against the India A team was arguably his most impressive performance of the tour, as he dismissed Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. This was in the List A series, but he followed this up with some great red ball performances against India A and Surrey. Chemar Holder took 4/57 against India and took another wicket in the second innings. This capped off a solid tour for the West Indies A

He is quite a prospect, if groomed properly he can be as good as the old school WI quicks...Exciting prospect

Chemar is in the West Indies squad, and I expect him to get a game given these three Tests are played back-to-back with Alzarri likely making way though he bowled much better in the 2nd innings.

He is tall and highly rated in the Caribbean, helping Barbados win the domestic 4 day championship.

Some are asking why's there suddenly a West Indies pace resurgence ? Some credit goes to the West Indies administrators Johnny Grave and Jimmy Adams for a) introducing the red Dukes to home Tests and b) quickening up the pitches in the Caribbean which were too slow and spin friendly for years.

Brilliant prospect- better than Joseph or Thomas. At 6’5” he has one of the best bowling actions, a very typical WIN high arm, side on action, resembling two pacers from my younger days’ memory - Winstone Benjamin & Patrick Patterson. I am sure he’ll play Test cricket this summer in England and won’t be surprised if he starts with a bang.

West Indies pace attack is starting to get really scary. I think they have one of the best pace attacks in Test format currently.

Their spin department is still weak though and they may struggle in Asia.

Their attack is getting better every year. He is bowling between 87-91 MPH at this age :O

If the pitch has bounce he will be nasty to face with his action and height!

Dont worry.. They'll get sidetracked and lose their way due to a combination of lure of T20 franchise money along with WICB mismanagement.

Its not like they havent had talented fast bowlers in the past 2 decades who have shone brightly for a bit and then disappear.

Roach, Edwards, Gabriel, Jerome Taylor, Pedro Collins, Joseph, Corey Collymore, Ravi Rampaul have all come and shone for a while before disappearing.

we've been down this road before

He needs to move to England and play for their team. Within a month, he will be overhyped to the moon and considered the best bowler in history.

If he stays with the West Indies, he can perform brilliantly for years like Roach and Holder have done, but he will be deemed useless compared to Bouncer Specialist Archer.

Why are you so concerned what others think about Archer, surely if you think he is rubbish than that should be the end of debate in your eyes.

It the same reason why Fijian and Samoan rugby players are Worid beaters when they play for the ABs but are unprofessional and careless when playing for their native lands-- it's expectations, money and organisation.

Definitely a decent talent however, the problem of WI has not been lack of bowlers coming through other than few years maybe. Problem has clearly been lack of quality batsmen as well as spinner to back them in tests and lack of ability of these talents to transition to LOIs.

Its always heartening to see talent in any department coming through but without improving other departments as well teams rarely improve enough to be noticed.

I don't think Archer is rubbish. I think he is very good and has the potential to be a great if he works hard and improves.

My issue is how a large number of people refer to him as the greatest bowler out there. Both on pakpassion and on the general media. And this is because of one simple reason - he plays for England. English players in general get so much hype. It stems from an inherent feeling of superiority that English seem to have within cricket. It's not like this with other sports.

English cricket has this aura of self righteousness and act as if they are God's gift to sport.

So while there is no debate in my eyes, I like to call out the double standard wherever I see it.

Cricket is English Centred and always will be. There are many reasons for this, mainly historical but also because of a high quality media with excellent writers who are not just great analysts but are also very personable. If you disagree, that is your right but hype sells tickets and they have a product to sell to an English audience. I often see people criticising them for not talking about this player or that player but they write about people of interest to their audience. And with so much choice, I am not sure why you read them or listen to them. No point complaining about something you are doing voluntarily.

I find it funny hearing about overhyped English cricketers though because the English cricket media are brutal when results go south and aren't afraid to lay into the players.

Bob Willis and Geoff Boycott made commentary careers out of post-defeat rants.

And the idea English media are the only ones to overhype their players is laughable.

Anyway this thread was about Chemar Holder not personal grievances.

But that doesn't fit the narrative of a pointless rant by some
