If you want Pakistani players to not have to rely on Babar and Rizwan all the time, it might be sensible to let them play without those two in the side and also influencing the proceedings

Pakistan should have done this in the 7 match series but Babar and Rizwan played 90% of the fixtures and 60% of the innings nearly.

Let Shan, Khusdil, Iftikhar and Asif fall into the deep end and rely on themselves to do everything. Let them fail and learn on their own.

Do you have any association with the PCB, do they ever reach out to you?

Good video Saj.

I agree with most of what you have said, regarding Khushdil & Shan.

With regards to Iftikhar, despite his lacklustre performances with the bat, this series we saw how effective he can be with the ball.

Pakistan have always been a 6 bowler side in LOI cricket and I was surprised Babar refrained from using Ifti in the Asia cup. If we can get a minimum of 2 overs from Iftikhar plus his ok contributions with the bat then I think he cements a place in the side.

It's always a pleasure to hear Bumbles views and we need him back on the TV providing his insights.

I've been watching a few videos of English pundits/fans after the series and they really do seem to think Pakistan are genuine contenders for the world cup.

I wonder if they genuinely think this way or it's just politeness?

Secondly,

I want to ask the question of when and where is it acceptable to play for your average and when is it acceptable to play for your sr?

People ridicule, mock a guy who plays for his sr every time and bring up his below 10 average whilst defending their 50+ averaging guys who muster 130 SRs as openers.

What is acceptable and where? Shouldn’t the guys opening the innings but are prolific due to their much more risk free approach equally guilty as the guy who throws caution to the wind but comes off once in 10 games?

Why should the number 3 get criticised for not setting the tempo when he just isn’t skilled enough to play that role?

Good video definitely agree with most of the analysis. I think bumble was a bit too generous to Pakistan in his comments but the reality is on Pakistan’s day we won a closely fought match but on England’s day they completely obliterated us. I seriously hope Pakistan is working on their shortcomings behind the scenes.

Brilliant commentator with a great sense of humour.

Unique in his style of commentary and it's cricket's loss that he's not on our screens at the moment.

If it had been up to me I would have rested Babar and Rizwan in a couple of the matches against England seen whether their team-mates sank or managed to swim.

I think the best thing for Pakistan was to rest Babar/Rizwan after that 200 run partnership to level the series. Let them go on a high and let them come back against NZ on Saturday

Instead Pakistan kept them going and the problems were not solved. The fans are right up the whole team’s back and so are the media. Aqib Javed essentially was proven correct by the end of the series too.

At least they could have said “well as you can see, Babar and Rizwan are vital to our success”.

Look forward to this, Saj will you ever start a podcast on Spotify, think it would be a good idea

Great discussion.

In T20, average doesn't matter much. All about strike rate and impact.

I felt Shan was doing the same (playing for average) although one can say that he lost his wicket in trying to accelerate.

Let's see what formula Pakistan come up with in this World Cup!

To me, if it wins matches, then that is the right one.

Kane Williamson playing the type of innings our number 3s have played too often of late.

Great start yet Kane made 23 off 23 balls.

Strike rate isnt the be all and end all

I mean you can score a 10 ball 15 every game and have a great strike rate

But in the context of the team score its not gonna be very useful

Its got to be a mixture of both More strike rate but avge is important too as without runs a high strike rate is a waste of time

Devon Conway today didn't necessarily have a massive sr during most of his innings but it was still a match winning performance.

Devon Conway today didn't necessarily have a massive sr during most of his innings but it was still a match winning performance.

That is his designated role. Others play around him. He is capable. He is somewhat a 360 degree player. He can improvise any time he wants.

Seems Pak players have bigger issues than playing for averages!

Strike-rates in T20Is in 2022:

Babar Azam 123.32
Mohammad Rizwan 122.96
Shan Masood 121.91
Iftikhar Ahmed 118.56
Fakhar Zaman 105.45
Haider Ali 117.72
Khushdil Shah 116.00
Asif Ali 130.23

You can't have a successful T20I batting unit with these strike-rates, nearly all around the 100 to 120 mark.

You have to have a couple of batters whose strike-rate is higher than this and who will take risks and put the opposition bowlers under pressure.

Embarrassing. Difficult to win ICC tournaments with this kind of batting talent in T20I

Strike-rates in T20Is in 2022:

Babar Azam 123.32
Mohammad Rizwan 122.96
Shan Masood 121.91
Iftikhar Ahmed 118.56
Fakhar Zaman 105.45
Haider Ali 117.72
Khushdil Shah 116.00
Asif Ali 130.23

At the time of the loss in the final it was obviously disappointing for us to lose.

But after seeing these figures a part of me is glad we lost because with those strike rates I honestly can’t say that we have a good enough team of modern t20 batters, it’s on par with associate teams batting.

Babar needs to be shown the door, he’s clearly not a t20 batsmen and I don’t think he’ll ever be one, and should focus his efforts on the other two formats.

David “Bumble” Lloyd’s experience and insight are badly missed on our television screens, I hope he makes a comeback soon.
