Seems to be doing ok so far in the PSL but do you guys think he has a future in this format?
 
No, he should stick to T20s in domestic cricket and leagues.

We don't need him in T20 internationals
 
This is how he should bat in ODIs.
 
Recipe for disaster.

He's just lucky that standards are very poor in psl wrt batting and no team is being able to put up decent scores.


Shocking why he was picked in the first place.

What he's doing now is more suitable to ODIs where he plays like a Test batsman.
 
He is useful for a brittle lineup like Zalmi's. However, they are too dependent on Kamran scoring big. Unless he fires, they cannot post 170+ totals regardless of Pollard's fireworks.

Sammy is wasting a spot as well. Imam is far from their biggest problem at the moment.
 
He can use this stint as practise to get better in ODIs. At the moment it seems like his go to shot is dancing down the track and opening up towards off side. Good bowlers will not give him this freedom so he needs to continue working on different shots.
 
His test will be when PZ have to post a score/chase a high total.

Imam, Shan Masood and Azam Khan are truly shameful selections.

Don’t you support Kamran Akmal... they’ve both played the same format for the same team.. guess who’s done better
 
I found Imam to have played really well.
Why?
1. Attacked fast bowlers coming down the track.
2. Took single after every boundary. Did not waste any ball.
3. Sometimes it is not about scoring rather how you play. The attitude looked perfect.
4. He visibly improved in handling outside off stump deliveries by pushing them to 3rd man. Previously he used to drive them, ending up edging to 2nd slip.
5. He consistently scored during this PSL. With more time, he will improve as described in point #4.
 
Don’t get the hate. He will never be a big striker but he does well building a base at the top. He is the top scorer for Zalmi. If anything Kamran should be blamed for his inconsistently.

Some time we become bias , He did well in PSL4 and become highest run scorer with acceptable strike rate.
 
I dont know why everyone hates him so much, hes a good batsman. We need more like him.
 
His play of spin is still very poor( it's the same for most young PK players)but he is good against the Pacers

Lots of cricket in coming months , Australia , England and then WC, there is a good possibility he does well in these games and turns out be Pakistan's 2nd world class batsman after Babar.
 
He should stick to Tests and OD only , that is better for him as well as Team .

In OD he should look to bat out 35 - 40 overs and hold one end up.

Fact is if he's going to be a regular in our ODI team, and play in the world cup, he needs all the practice he can get playing aggressive shots. Help improve his game even more. He's shown in the PSL he can score at a healthy strike rate and is at least workable in T20s (which on the other hand someone like Azhar was just not).

It also might help us get the order of the top 3 right in ODIs. ATM I don't think it's optimum with two left handers. In T20s If for example Imam can play well at 3, with Fakhar and Babar doing well opening, then we can perhaps try that order in ODIs. In the same logic if say we try Babar/Imam with Fakhar at 3 in T20s at that works well we can try that in ODIs too. Our T20 opening partnership is far stronger than in ODIs, and we really need to work out how to get the same results in ODIs too.

As much as I like an left-right combo opening, it's not entirely necessary. Australia won three WC with Hayden-Gilchrist opening. If Fakhar-Imam can win us one I'll be happy :) tbh.

If you're comparing how the three bat together in ODIs:
Imam-Babar, Average: 73, 729 runs
Fakhar-Imam, Average 61, 1151 runs
Fakhar-Babar, Average 43, 562 runs

Fakhar-Imam and Imam-Babar are better, but Fakhar is needed opening to take advantage of the powerplay. Otherwise with Imam-Babar you'll get a lot of 42-0 as opposed to 59-1 with Fakhar there.

Imam doesn't merit a spot in the T20I team imo.

As of now it should be a Top 3 of Fakhar, Babar, and Umar. With Malik, Sarfraz and Asif to follow.

He is competing with Amin, Shehzad, etc. for a Top 3 spot and I don't think he deserves it off of one tournament tbh.

Like I said, Imam is HORRIBLE when it comes to T20s.

His one and ONLY scoring shot is charge down the pitch against the pacers. This only works in the PSL.

Not when the opposition has some sort of IQ - their captain/bowler. And NEVER works in international cricket.

On batting merit even Kamran is better than Imam and has proper shots to score, especially against the pacers.
Imam did not deserve to be selected on merit in the PSL, should not be selected in T20s and it's a failure of our system how a pathetic T20 bat like him got to PSL.

Charging down the crease is only going to work in the short term though. Once a bowler knows this is how he plays, they can target it as a dismissal chance. Fakhar was really successful initially, but once the top bowlers saw that he was looking for pre-meditated shots in his preferred area, his runs have started drying up.

sure but he's already done well to improve, he'll improve on that as well.

He didn't deserve to be selected in the first place, you should question our system where players like Imam get selected and those with no power never get a chance.

that system has always been in place, stop acting like this is the first time we've had a nepotistic selection.

in imam's case it's been beneficial for pakistan, we've found a gun player.

I'm not sure why it's so difficult for you to understand, or maybe you're pretending to be thick.

We're only discussing PSL and T20s here, what does PAK team or ODIs have to do with it? Nobody questioned his ODIs.

Stop going offtopic when you can't defend his PSL selection. Or T20 play.

Keep him away from T20s. In ODIs he has work to do. Whilst it's great he can get big scores , he needs to show that he can accelerate his innings.

That's because against semi decent bowling his scoring options are very limited and he has to resort to his release step out shot which doesn't usually work against short pacey bowling.

He does this when you need him to score at a decent rate.

Fakhar like premeditation, really bad .
 
Imam looking good. Might be worth trying the same Top 4 in T20Is that they have in ODIs.
 
Imam has gone from looking like a solid test prospect to a more reliable LO player.

Don't see him as a T20 player . Really hope he can get going in tests as he has the mentality .
 
It's time to give him a go. I do see him playing some nice strokes in the powerplay.
 
Can't do any worse than Fakhar Zaman.
 
The guy is under rated and doesn't get enough credit. He has suffered from being Inzamam's nephew

Lol what? Getting out on 2 and 0 is not called not wasting deliveries it's called being ****. Imam would at worst make 23 off 25 and that too with Babar at the other end who is excellent in the powerplay is good enough. Being 1 down after the first 2 overs is not helpful at all.

Lasting a few deliveries most of the time doesn't do the team any favours at all.
 
Should definitely be in for the Third game.

Then new options must be looked at.

Imam has played one T20I where he scored 7 off 10, so I don't know where you got this ''at worst 23 off 25''

Imam is a notorious slow starter, I can totally see him getting to 8 off 15, then trying to slog and getting out.

Not to say that what Farkar is doing is any better, but just be realistic of what to expect from Imam. He's not going to come in and make everything right, he has his own flaws
 
While Imam isnt the most dynamic T20 player but he stilll has a better SR in T20s overall than Haris and Rizwan.

Also, fakhar has the ability to be a good t20 batsman i.e. score heavily, quickly, if he sorts out his gungho attitude and is more selective with his shots.
Imam has no 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear, he may scored more runs consistantly than fakhar but at what cost; a strike rate of 75!

I choose fakhar over imam.
However, fakhar must be given an ultimatum to score runs consistantly or be replaced by someone like ahsan ali, kamran akmal, shajeel(if he can recapture his pre banned form) or someone else of this ilk.

He's limited, only shot he has is run down the ground vs the pacers.

He has a good two gears missing.
 
Well Fakhar Zaman looks like a tail-ender. Don't have expectations from Imam in T20Is but may as well give him the next T20I

How many batsmen do pakistan have who can run down the pitch for fast bowlers and lift it for a six down the ground. Very limited is Imam but has been by far our in form opener.

For the last match I would change the top order:
1. Babar
2. Imam ul Haq
3. Fakhar Zaman
4. Iftikhar Ahmed
5. Khushdil Shah
6. Mohammad Rizwan


I think with the given squad that's the best we can go with.

I think you missed the point.

It's not a good shot at all, and he doesn't execute it well either. He tries to hit that way, but can't.

Please explain to me, how are you going to score 200, when babar and imam are going to use up the first 15 overs scoring 85 runs, babar with 50(45) and imam 35(45)?

I think Imam has played it quite well to be honest. It has been his get away shot but alright since he has been connecting well 90 percent of the time.

Firstly, I said the best possible team with the selected squad.
I am not in favor of having Imam in the squad at all.

Secondly, Babar always scores quicker than that and he is one of the top batsman in the world regardless of the format. And you "prediction" is just ridiculous as this kind of score doesn't exist.
 
Might as well give him a go, can't do much worse than Fakhar right now.

Babar is a good odi batsman, he is still developing as a test batsman. His no. 1 ranking in t20s is misleading, as pakistan haven't played the top teams away from home and he plays an anchor role, taking alot less risks then any other opening batsman in any other top team and gets to play alot more deliveries due to this 'anchor' role, which no other team deploys.
As soon as he is forced to up the tempo to what a modern t20 opener is expected to play at, he gets out. Like i said in many threads today and in my thread, Pakistan fear getting bowled out without using up all the available overs and thats why babar is the only anchor batsman in top flight international t20 cricket.

Now you want to add a second, more inferior anchor opening batsman to the mix, in imam. Mark my words, if these two don't get out before the 15th over, Pakistan will have a score of 100 or less. It will be up to the likes of ifti and co to score 50 odd runs in the last 5 overs to get a score of 150, when a par score would be 200! And obviously, the aussies will chase this down without breaking a sweat.

If the aussies bat first, they will score 200- 220 and these two would have lost us the game by the end of the powerplay, if they have not got out, by only scoring 40 runs, leaving 180 more runs to be scored in 14 overs!

He is a really good young talent but with Babar and Rizwan in top 4 someone with bit more attacking tendencies was required to try to utilize the power play overs and disrupt the lengths.

Nothing to do with modesty. Really great to see a Pak player take responsibility and acknowledge that the team relies on him. As an opener and a key batsman, its integral for him to play long innings such as this.
