Too early maybe but what he is doing against Australia A is amazing!

5/32 in 12 overs and some excellent bowling to get those wickets.

Amazing performance!
I always thought he would do very well in england, but unfortunately, never got the opportunity, but this performance in australia has really suprised me.

Unfortunately this trundle will start the first est now and get pasted all over the ground

Surely he is bowling as quick as Shaheen currently so I would pick him instead Shaheen, but all depends on the 2nd warmup game.

Is he a lot fitter this time around?

Only a warm-up though Aus have plenty of potential test starters in this line-up. Imran bowled well in the UAE prior to his previous trip to Oz, when he was poor.

Wondering what might've changed, or could it be just a one off..

This is only a warm up game, but good performance and good for the confidence. I remember this guy getting slated as a trundler the last time he got a run out, lets hope the supporters get behind him.

Picking him isn't Misbahs' best selection. So not sure why the title.

Misbah should be given the credit for betting on an exciting young pace attack with debutants. Naseem, Musa

Should get a national medal for dropping Malik and Sarfraz.

Even though currently no bowler is good enough to run through the actual Aus side and Imran Khan can't do it either. Today praises, tomorrow lots of abuses by the same people.

He did have a poor outing last time in Oz, when to be fair, all our quicks struggled. Always liked him as bowler, when he did well in UAE, respected line and length - he might get a bit more nip than Abbas too...

He's always been super fit. Was a workhorse bowler consistently bowling most of the spells even in the UAE.

But he's not the type who will run through lineups, at least not on a consistent basis.

In fact we do not have anyone of that caliber. One can hope for that from Naseem but too early to say.

Our bowlers most likely will do a bad job collectively, but he'll receive most of the hate for unknown reasons.

Abbas definitely deserves to play! Can’t just ignore his performances for the national side because they happened under Micky Arthur..

Shaheen also has to play

Now I am afraid this trundler will play ahead of Naseem Shah. I have little confidence in Imran Khan snr’s bowling in these conditions in a test match.

I don't think Naseem will be at his best in this series due to the state of mind he will be in. Each individual reacts differently to such a loss. Some might be pushed harder by something like this.

The problem is in AUS you need a bit more guile, use the pitch to your advantage, i am unsure whether Naseem is up to that at the moment, don't know why he didnt get a few overs in the warm up game but the "trundler" is showing his skill at the moment and will probably get the nod.

Naseem's mother has passed away and he has been given the day off. He is supposed to be back tomorrow but he may not bowl (depending on his mental state). He has talked to his family and they have decided that he should stay in Australia as his Mother's burial is today and he won't be able to make it.

Another false hope. Watch him struggle in the Test series.

Typical negatively from the usual snowflakes.. 🤦🏽*♂️ I always liked his commitment for the cause especially those spells in UAE , he is very accurate & wholehearted bowler so best of luck to him

Warner would be licking his lips at the sight of this trundler opening the bowling at the Gabba.

I still haven’t forgotten how this guy completely embarrassed us as the SCG on our last tour here when he gifted Warner a century in a session.

I certainly wouldn't play him in the red ball contest. But for the pink ball contest, do you select Abbas or him?

That is the dilemma that Misbah has, who I hope will not get overexcited by this and end up picking both at the expense of Shaheen.

This guy won't last in a test match against Australia, should've learnt that last time. This is a one off performance, and unfortunately this means he's going to start in the first test ahead of Nasim.

Can you be more specific about ‘guile’? The truth is that in Australian test cricket, swing bowlers are pretty useless. Anderson has been there multiple times and has very little to show for it. You need pace, bounce and consistency to do well here. And bounce doesn’t mean bowling short, it means extra lift off a length. Imran Khan snr is just not suited to Australian conditions in my opinion. Would be happy to be proved wrong... but don’t think I will be. IK snr will not deliver in the test series.

Always rated him. The only time he done badly was in that last match in australia where he got pasted around but other than that he had a very good career. No problems with his selection. Seems a genuinely likable guy too. Best of luck and very happy for him :)

By Guile i mean as you said, having that knack of consistently bowling that line and length even when the chips are down and you are being tonked all over the place, amongst all else experience is crucial. At the moment i can see Imran being selected over Naseem because he does not have these attributes or he hasn't been tested. Especially with our conservative management team. Very bold statement to make saying he will not deliver, i also hope you are proved wrong for the sake of pakistani cricket.

My condolences to the family. i didn't know, sad time for the boy hopefully he can challenge his emotion and make a success of this tour.

Yes, this is absolutely an important attribute, but has to be combined with pace and bounce. Think of all the best bowlers in their history, they have either been very tall and been able to seam (not the same as swing) the ball, or very quick. Actually when you get military medium ‘line and length’ bowlers like Imran Khan snr, they have fared very badly. Most recently, Chris Woakes, Broad, Anderson all failed in Australia despite being fairly consistent, because they didn’t have pace and bounce.

Not saying Imran Khan will bamboozle Australia but have people actually seen the lineup?

All the top 7 players (Except Puckovski) have played for Australia. And 3 of the players in the lineup are the same ones who played in the team which India won series against and other ones in the series were Finch, Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh and Paine which we all now are mediocre test players.

Have to give him credit for performing.

definitely agree, my opinion is that i have seen more of Imran than naseem and he also picked up a 5 for today which almost guarantees him a spot, Naseem is untried and untested, just like hasnain who was taken to the WC but was never given a game, maybe in the future he may fare better however on this occassion i think Imran trumps him.

but the bowling lineup of Australia A is beyond terrible. It could be a trick. Australia is very dodgy. Full credit goes to the bowlers though. I really hope pakistan stun australia and smash them.

Smith, warner and the rest of the Aussie lineup will make a mockery out of him. Wait for the test series to be over and then we will see. However this performance has made sure he will be in the first test lineup :mv...

To be honest its very difficult to predict how our pacers will do. Such a sad situation, there was a time when we can say for sure that our bowling lineup will challenge the opposition.

Imran Khan speaking to PCB

"During the one and half years I was out of the Pakistan side, I worked very hard on my fitness and on my bowling, and doing nets after arriving about 8-9 days early has really been useful in learning about the conditions here"

"I am thankful to Allah that I took 5 wickets today; My plan was to bowl as many dot balls and to work on the opposition batsmen's weakness and so I got those wickets"

"Its very tough to play in Australia conditions and on these wickets but the 7-8 days we have spent here have helped; When I discussed the strategy with Waqar Bhai, he told me to concentrate on line and length and to not give any runs as that is how I will get wickets"

"Looking at the weaknesses of the batsmen, I kept bowling at the 4th stump and off stump and so I got leg befores and caught behinds, which was also my plan"

"Taking five wickets before the Test was very important for me as I am making a comeback after a long time; It was good that I got this performance under my belt and I hope to continue this in Tests also"

"Even in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy I had worked hard to learn to bowl at left and right-handers, how to come round the stumps and bowl at the batsmen, and I hope this will be useful especially in Test series"

"The wicket of Burns where I had him clean-bowled was due to my feeling that Australians had fielded long (and were tired) so brought the ball in and and he could not play it"

Obviously Cummins, Hazlewood, Pattinson and Starc are better but Jhye Richardson (Before getting injured), Neser were part of the Australian test squad just recently as they are considered the best in Aus after the obvious 4 pacers and Meredith is rated as probably the best young pacer in Australia. Bowling aside 3 of their main batsmen Vs India at home are part of the lineup which is bundled out for 120 odd.

Not at all saying Pak is gonna sweep away the series as now they have Smith and Warner back as well for their home tests but that shouldnt take away this performance in the 3day game.

Mickey Arthur criminally dumped this guy. IK Jr may not be a world beater or a rapid pacer but he does a consistent holding job well and his stats are not bad either.

Australia are known to under prepare tourists by giving them a false sense of hope, lets hope their bowlers do not blow us away when the tests start.

Hold on till the real tests start. I liked his intensity, put some good performances in UAE.

That is a fair argument. I haven’t seen much of Naseem Shah either and there is a lot of hype around him. I think you are right and they will go for Imran Khan snr in the 1st test. Whether it was the right decision to pick him in the squad in the first place will just be an academic debate now. But I am pretty sure having Imran Khan snr and Abbas in the same attack will make us seem very one dimensional and helpless when the new ball loses its shine.

imran khan snr is going to get smashed when the tests start.
the same way, asad shafiq is going to fail when the tests start.

you can pin this comment, i would bet my life on this.

At least being kept out of Mickey’s set up, he understood that he needs to work on his fitness. Having said that, a bowling line up can’t have both imran and Abbas. Both are too similar

Australia A batsman Cameron Bancroft addressed the media after making 49 against Pakistan on day two of their tour match at Perth Stadium.

"Their quicks probably held better lines and lengths for periods of time, and that made it challenging out there; Their 2 seamers bowled very nicely and they were able to put the balls in the right areas and ask questions and that always makes playing difficult"

"Their 2 seamers, and they had a fella who couldn't bowl today, were very consistent, they bowled very good lengths; Obviously the pink ball has an X Factor to it, it swings early and gets soft but has the ability to do a little bit; I think they didnt go searching, they held their areas and tested our patience and I am sure a lot of us wish we could have gone out there and done it a bit better; That's what we have seen today and probably what they will look to do through out the Test series"

Very surprised at today's performance but credit to the guy, he could be the surprise package.

He contributed to some wins for Pakistan in the past. The 3rd test match against Sri Lanka where his 5 wicket burst with the new ball when the other 2 pacers were tired and Yasir was neutralized was vital. Unfortunately YK, Shan Masood got accolades for that win when it was this guy's spell which turned the test match around.

He held up well against the Australians in 2014 and bowled Michael Clarke with a beauty.

For some reason Mickey Arthur dumped this guy because he felt he wasn't quick enough. IK has decent international stats up to now, i dont care about pace if the guy knows how to bowl a tight line, length with the new ball, build pressure, reverse swing the old ball and has the energy, stamina to bowl 25-30 overs a day.

Oh man it would be terrible with both ABBAS and Imran trundling at 78-80 mph

Gets criticized even after taking 5-fer which helped his team take a lead of almost. The opposition consisted of most players who are a contender for a spot in Aus test XI

This is a large number of Pakistani fans for you. A player which they dont like, they will criticize him even if performs because now he might play over a player they like and if he doesnt then they feel much better as now they can criticize all they want. :shezzy2

This spell reminds us of the great Imran Khan bowling. Need to be the first pick for the 1st test. Warner would be ducking and hoping in his nightmare at the thought of imran's bouncers.

Too early maybe but what he is doing against Australia A is amazing!

5/32 in 12 overs and some excellent bowling to get those wickets.

His first class Stats are decent. Also 28 wickets from 9 test matches. But I am surprised why Mohd Abbas was not played in this match. If he impresses in the second practice match as well. He will be playing in the Tests.

He has a bad reputation here on PP based off 1 match in Australia where he actually still outperformed the golden boy Mohammad Amir.

Apart from the Syndey test he has always done well, especially considering he's played most his games in the UAE. It's criminal that a bowler like Imran Khan sat out for Rahat Ali in England in 2016. Even in the NZ tour they left him out for the 1st test, he was then included in the 2nd test and took 6 wickets.

I am glad the PCB got rid of Mickey Arthur, the guy destroyed too many careers because of his personal likes and dislikes

All excellent posts.

There are worse bowlers than him, he has actually done quite well, even better than the golden boy Amir. That too on dead surfaces.

Folks here hate on him, no matter if he does good or bad. There would be bowlers who'll do worse than him on this tour, but this guy will get crucified by the Mickey Arthur brigade.

The darkness that had overtaken our Test and ODI teams is thankfully fading away.

You got to have the right expectations first. We don't have better bowlers in the pipeline to play them. And this guy is also not someone who will routinely take 5-fers - not a leader of the attack. We don't have anyone of that kind.

On a side note, Yasir Shah will play an important role in this series. He will enjoy the bounce like most leggies do in Australia.

This bowler is the real deal that misbah has unearthed for this tour. He is definitely going to wreck hovoc into Smith's batting and pull down his average to below 60. Get ready for your golden ducks Smithy boy :uakmal

Challo - if he takes a 5fer he is bad, if he doesnt he is bad - what do our fans want?

No one is saying he is bad. But you can't have a 3 man pace attack with both Abbas and Imran in Australia. They are the same type of bowler and if they play then we don't have a quick aggressive option, which is a must in Australia. If we have a 3 man pace attack then Naseem and Shaheen have to play with either Imran or Abbas. If Misbah wants to play both then he will have to drop Yasir and play 4 pacers, and this is probably the best option.

On a side note, Yasir Shah will play an important role in this series. He will enjoy the bounce like most leggies do in Australia.

To be successful in Australia as a spinner you must bowl slower and flight the ball. You can't bowl flat and quick, that is criminal, and that is exactly what Yasir was doing yesterday and in 2016/17. You have to bowl flat and faster in the UAE but you cannot do that in Australia.

Though he bowled brilliantly. But he should only play in place of Yasis. As a 4th pacer, him and Abbas both in same xi will be recipe for disaster.

I don't think he was ever really bad. He's never gone wicketless in a test match and was dropped basically after that horror-show at Sydney. Only question is whether he can offer something new? We are tired of seeing 130 kph trundlers take up spots in the test side. And you need to be really good to be successful in Australia without pace. Good thing is that he has gotten his pace up, how much it is I'm not sure. But I just don't see how you can leave Shaheen or Abbas out in favor of him. If he plays it will have to be in place of Nasim.

Its too early to say this, wait for the match. Its thrown out by micky because of his height and speed. Lets see who is/was wrong.

False dawn.

His last 5 first-class games (comprising 8 innings), he has taken a total of 8 wickets @ 49.1 a piece, with a maximum of 2 wickets in any single innings.

Expect him to get slaughtered by Warner and Smith come the actual test series

Unfortunately this trundle will start the first est now and get pasted all over the ground

In 1999, when India had toured Aus, I had no hopes. We lost 3-0. However in the tour game, a bowler named T.Kumaran (pakistanis may famously remember him bowling to Mohd Yousuf on 94* at 49.5 in an ODI and yousuf promptly hit him for a six) took a 5-fer. I thought he should have been given a chance. Unfortunately he wasn't. Similarly it doesn't matter how IK fares in the test. They should give him a chance. He has earned it i suppose.

He is an inferior version of Gul, who himself was not good enough for Test cricket. I think people are too optimistic.

He had 8 wickets at an average of over 49 in his last 5 FC games in Pakistan. And they dropped Abbas to play him

horrific decisions by Misbah. He should be fired for this decision alone

At the rate Misbah is going, he's already been fired 4-5 times alone.

On a more series note, yes, it's ridiculous Imran's been chosen to play over Abbas who's proven to be a much better bowler than Imran.

He should've only been used in Asia, on dead wickets after that 5-fer vs SL. These guys decided to take him to Australia not once, but twice, where he offers nothing

Now they're gonna drop him altogether.

Stupid stuff all round.
