First T20I against Australia - Looked a little rushed by the faster pitch, didn't really look comfortable during the course of the innings. Has to adjust quickly...

Decent little knock. Terrific running between the wickets. He will improve further. No need to look back now.

He’s not really a T20 player but we don’t have any other options for keeper batsmen in this format so will have to stick with him.

Ugliest batsman in Pak, second to Fawad Alam.

His actual ability is similar to that of Fawad too. He cannot hit, he cannot time, especially cannot time anything over 120 kph.

Will always play embarrassing premeditated shots.

Of course, you'd hope that he can do better than Sarfraz but from the early signs doesn't seem so. He's still as bad as he was a couple of years ago.

I don't think this was a fast pitch. Light years of a difference between how Babar adjusted to this spongy wicket, and Rizwan's ineptitude.

Best runner between the wickets for Pakistan since I started to watch cricket in 96.he will be more useful in 50 overs. Ridiculous that shoaib Malik played the 2019 world cup ahead of rizwan

He is more cut for Test and ODI cricket, that's for sure. But I would stick with him in the T20I format till the T20I WC. He is better than Sarfraz for sure.

Although rizwan has improved as a batsman he is still not a T20 player.
Bismillah Khan Would have been my choice because he has the extra gear

Brilliant running between the wickets. He isn't suited for the t20 format but he will do well in ODIs and Tests.

Probably more suited to ODI and Tests, but I still think they should persist with him for now. If he can be less fidgety, he will score much faster.

He's not an T20 player, he will do well in ODIs and Tests. For T20s we should invest in someone like Bismillah Khan, he can replace Fakhar and Khushdil can come into the middle order.

Not a great start, but so refreshing to see proper running between wickets.

Cut him some slack, making his comeback after a long time, in Australia against a good bowling attack, coming in after the loss of 2 quick wickets.

He will get run out atleast once this series. Blind runner.

Rizwan inning cost us the match yet he is better because he runs better what a wk talent we have in domestic

Getting hit on gloves twice in a over from cummins wait and see how ausie starts shot pitch staff against him

Our best t20 player and vice captain can't even hit a boundary against peace and he is the best we got

He didn't look that good when playing most of his shots, (he didin't look like he was in control when playing the shots) and also tried some really crazy shots but overall, not bad. He built a good partnership with Babar and scored some boundaries and was brilliantly running between the wickets

Let me put it out there: Rizwan cake to Australia in 2016 and was atrocious on that tour. His display today shows that t20 is not his game. He scored 31 off 33 from which 10 runs came off two balls

He's awful and not cut out to face top international attacks, but he's slightly less awful than Sarfraz which is why he's there.

He is okay for the number 4 spot and is equally god against spin and pace.If he can increase his strike rate he can be an asset for us.

Let's give him a run. As I pointed out before he is late on the ball but as he is the one in possession let him swim or sink.

Never a T20 player, hence the reason why he used to bat very low down the order for KK because Micky knew he wasn't good enough for T20's, however misbah doesn't seem to understand or probably doesn't want to.

Mickey Arthur on Rizwan

"Rizzy came out with great intent, at 10/2 a partnership was needed. His intensity was up, to take his game to the next level he has to score more off the good ball, rotate strike"

Umar Akmal remains the best option for T20- WK/Bat. He isn't good as batsmen because he can't cope with expectations but by keeping( and we have seen already he is competent), he can bat without pressure.

Rizwan is a solid no.4 in ODIs. In T20s I would play him at 6/7.

He doesnt have the fire power but still can hit better than Sarfraz.

He needs to open in ODI cricket, use the powerplay well. Babar and Haris bat 3 and 4, and he will be a disaster at 5.

Or Babar Azam to open, Rizwan at 3. He can't bat lower than that

He can't play T20 cricket

Technique little different....

Excellent points made. We should have a different keeper for T20s and in ODIs he should bat in top 4 as his game is more suited to building inns then been destructive.

Needs to be given time. Not expecting him to do much in T20Is but if we're patient with him, he will improve because he has the drive to succeed.

In just the few ODIs he played this year (against Australia prior to the WC), you could see he was miles ahead of Sarfraz as an ODI batsman.

In both ODIs and T20Is, Rizwan needs to open and Fakhar should bat at 5 or 6 instead.

Saw couple of photos trending on internet. His eyes are closed while hitting the ball most of the time. Can't afford these school boy errors at international level.

Dare I say Umar Akmal as WK/ Bat until the U19 Captain is ready. With the pressure off as a Batsman only, he maybe the best short term option.

He seems committed and is very fit.An excellent runner too.
But he cant help his limited abilities especially in t20s.

I cant see how he is an upgrade on sarfraz who average around 35 in test match cricket over a long period of time! cant remember Sarfraz scoring 32 ball 30 in T20.

Now that Sarfraz is out we have to wait and see but looks a really limited player.

Not the best of knocks.

His game will definitely be more suited to ODI's.

But, he deserves a run of games as he was pretty good in National T20 Cup.

I still think that Pak’s best keeper choice is Umar Akmal. He won’t waste a valuable batting spot and may just come off every now and then. He is usually a game changer when he comes off.

On paper, his performance was bad yesterday.

But he played well. He changed the momentum with two boundaries after Australia were on top.

And his running between the wickets was fantastic. Probably the fastest, most athletic guy in Pakistan and he is a team player.

No, he probably will not be a great T20 player, but his attitude will be fantastic to have in the Pakistan team across formats.

Still the best keeper and for that alone he makes the team. Let’s see what he does since he will be given a full chance now. Bismillah Khan is still not ready and will have to prove himself in the upcoming PSL.

Doesn’t seem like a T20 player, he is fine for ODIs and test but need someone else for the shortest format. Do we have any big hitting keeper batsman in domestics?

Big upgrade over Sarfraz, who would've ensured that we're 10/3 today.

After playing around a dozen games Rizwan’s T20I Strike Rate is under 100 and the average is under 20. Sarfaraz is out of form and deserved to be dropped but I don’t think Rizwan is an upgrade at all at least in LOIs.

I have a feeling after a few series, people here would be calling for Sarfaraz to be selected again.

Yes, Bismillah Khan. Aggressive player and agile keeper.

Rizwan is way better than Sarfraz in the 50 overs format though. No competition at all.

Rizwan won't get the chance to bat in top 4 in ODIs. We play too many top order players who can't play T20s already. 5 is highest he can play.

If he can't succeed in T20s in the long run, doubt he'll be able to succeed at 5 in ODIs either.

Give him time, wicketkeepers take time to acclimatise to international cricket, more so than other players often. He still might come good in both formats. He'll either come good in both T20s and ODIs or neither I feel, when you bat at 5 in ODIs you've got to have that ability to play shots and keep up with the SR anyway, you don't have that time to build innings always.

This is why though I would have kept Sarfraz in T20. You would have had a experienced captain, good T20 record, good PSL record. Rizwan on the other hand doesn't succeed even in PSL, and likely won't be ready by the next T20 world cup. I would have kept Sarfraz around till T20 world cup, then sacked him once it was over. Then we could have given Rizwan a long proper run with less pressure.

Good post. I wanted Sarfraz as a captain and wicket keeper batsman till the upcoming WC. Rizwan in 50 overs format is a different player altogether. Rizwan should have only replaced Sarfraz in the ODI format. Sarfraz is finished in the ODI format. But now if Rizwan fails in this T20I series then I hope he doesn't face the axe in the ODI format because of his T20I performances, as this typically happens in our cricket affairs.

He is okay for the number 4 spot and is equally god against spin and pace.If he can increase his strike rate he can be an asset for us.

I don't know if he's a good fit for number 4. Usually that's the spot for the teams' best batsmen, who have the ability to both rotate and strike big.

But I feel Rizwan is our best keeper/bat at the moment. It might be interesting to get him to open or bat in the powerplay. He has good strokeplay and can loft the ball over the infield and that might be a good time for him. Once the fielders are at the ropes his game becomes much more limited.

Another unconvincing innings today. But even in domestic t20s his stats are worse than in FC and LA so it's clear this is his weakest format. I have more expectations from him in Tests and ODI's.

He actually looks terrible.

Tries to smash it every ball but is almost always late on the ball, footwork is all over the place, terrible balance and very little power.

It’s pretty obvious he is not suited to T20s. Sarfaraz deserved to be dropped from ODI and test but I think he probably should have stayed as T20 captain. He literally only had one bad series as T20 captain.

One last chance for him in the 3rd T20I, if he fails then he should replaced with either Bismillah or Rohail. He should be retained in the ODI format though.

Agree Rizwan should also play test next t2p series I would like for Bismillah khan to get a chance

Rizwan is Fawad Alam v2.

He cannot time the ball and will never be able to accelerate. He can't even see the ball.

I'm afraid there's no place to hide him. Not at 4, not at 6. Even in ODIs. These positions need to be adopted by your most dynamic batsmen.

Rizwan needs to bat 4 in Odis.
I was against this previously but Babar needs to open to accommodate this.
I hope his T20 failures dont count against him in Odis. Just what we need in Odis !!!

Imam/Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Rizwan

Thats a good top 4

In T20s the guy should be doing a sarfaraz really. Ie Tring not to bat and sending him down the order even after wahab/ Hasan etc

He’s not suited to T20 and never has been. He can’t slog nor does he have a power game.

His game is suited for Tests and a No 4 ODI position. Even No 3 if Babar opens.

How terrible is he?

Always said he's worse than Sarfraz. Nobody listened.

1) Timing? No
2) Shot range? No
3) Comfortable vs pace? No
4) Can play spin? No

His shots have as much conviction as Fawad Alam's. Probably worse.

This was expected. The other flaw in his batting beyond being strokeless to fast bowling is that he tends to play all around the delivery

Yes. Also does not get into the line, takes his eyes off the ball, tries to play blindly.

I mean... even club level cricketers don't do it. How is he in the national team?

I cannot believe people actually supported this guy. Anyone with even an iota of cricketing intelligence should know Rizwan is not good enough to hold a bat in international cricket.

Sarfraz at worst is comparable to Rizwan at his best. Just goes to show how most 'fans' here also agenda-based.

Yes. Always said he's worse, or at best as bad as Sarfraz.

However, this is not a justification to recall Sarfraz. On current form he's terrible, and should be given a lesson for being a terrible captain and the biggest non-performer.

That's right. But people here bigging up Rizwan as some sort of superstar were hilarious.

Sarfraz deserves everything he has got due to lack of hard work. He is still the best keeper-batsman in Pakistan at the moment.

We severely lack quality in the wicket keeping batsman role, hence Rizwan was picked off some good form. Can't bring Sarfraz back, so looks like Rizwan will be around as a temporary solution until someone better comes along. Let's see how Rohail Nazir develops.

In t20s you dont need a full time wk , anyone half decent with will do. Play bismillah khan.

Can Rohail do worse than Rizwan right now? This is not even Rizwan at his worst. He is supposed to be in good form right now, and this is what he is doing with that good form.

Easily the worst player to represent Pakistan in the past 10 years.

This should be it for him in the T20I format. He is just not good enough at international level in the T20 format. But he should not be dropped from the ODI team.

And no to Sarfraz as well. Bismillah or Rohail should be given a go in the next T20I series.

Yeah, his poor performances this series have everything to do with the T20 format.

Surfaraz was best and capable, he was not a big hitter but kind of a player with 120+ % strike. People hate him so much that he lost confidence and gradually decline in batting form yet he was better than Rizwan.
Rizwan is a flat track bully, not suitable from ODI's and T20's. Rohail should not be at this time, give him 1-2 years time and coach him. If no surfaraz then bring Umer Akmal as WC/batsman. Bismillah khan is a hack and play once in a bluemoon innings.
Whoever gets selected, encourage them, do not discard by excessive criticism.

I understand the tendency to look at Rizwan though the lens of Sarfaraz’s performance, but it seems s quite possible that both are terrible batsmen

The absolute lack of game awareness from Rizwan in the third match was astounding.

You've just seen your captain get out LBW to an inswinging delivery. You should expect a similar kind of ball when you get to the crease and be prepared to block it out. Instead, when you get that same ball, not only do you not defend it, you play a cross-batted nothing shot that will get you in trouble 95% of the time.

Unbelievable.
