West Yorkshire police are investigating a report of a “racially aggravated assault” against a 15-year-old boy after a violent video was shared on social media.

The victim, with his arm in a cast, is seen to be dragged to the floor by his neck before his attacker says “I’ll drown you” while forcing water from a bottle into his mouth.

The incident is said to have taken place on playing fields at Almondbury Community School in Huddersfield on 25 October.

Barry Sheerman, MP for the town, said he had been supporting the boy and his family, tweeting a video of the incident, which he called “absolutely shocking”.

“Understand from council that the school have taken strong action. Will be following up to ensure all available support is being given!”

The victim is reported to be a refugee from Syria and a fundraising page has received more than £20,000 in donations in four hours.

Superintendent Steve Dodds, of West Yorkshire police Kirklees district, said: “We are investigating a report of a racially aggravated assault of a 15-year-old boy which occurred on playing fields at Almondbury Community School at about 1pm on 25 October.“A 16-year-old boy has been interviewed by voluntary attendance in connection with the incident and we are continuing to progress the investigation.”

Kirklees council said: “Neither us nor the school condone violence in any form and behaviour like this will not be tolerated.”

Saw this on social media last night. The scumbags address was posted all over the place lol and he ended up needing police protection. It’s not going to end well for him.

Nice to see that 1000s of £s have been raised for the victim and his family too.

Society is crumbling!

Not just the lunatic, but others round him watching and enjoying the tamasha.

I think it was a prank based around waterboarding which has become famous for it's use by US security forces against Islamic terror suspects. With the lad being a Syrian refugee, you can see why it might have been seen as a good jape in today's current Islamophobic environment.

Feel bad for the British Muslims who are expected to face more hardships in the future as right wing gains prominence. Tough times ahead but stay strong.

Single mother with three kids, two of which are girls. The eldest committed this vile act.

Seems cars have been driving upto the house and hurling abuse and threats, they have now been moved to a safer location. You're right it's not going to end well, for him or his family!

You need to remove that video as its now subjudice..in other words he has been charged so there will probably be some kind of trial..

The family are probably low income and poorly educated. People like this are often fed their views by the popular media which is how you end up with UKIP immigration posters scaremongering the country into voting for Brexit.

A 16-year-old boy is to be charged with assault over an attack on a 15-year-old Syrian refugee at a school in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Police have said.

A shocking video of the incident shows the victim, with his arm in a cast, is seen to be dragged to the floor by his neck before his attacker says ‘I’ll drown you’ while forcing water from a bottle into the victim’s mouth.

The boy has been identified as a Syrian refugee named Jamal.

In statement West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Regarding the assault on a 15-year-old youth in Almondbury, which featured in a video posted on social media yesterday and has been widely reported in the media, a 16-year-old youth has been interviewed and reported for summons, for an offence of assault. He will appear at Youth Court in due course.

‘The incident occurred on 25 October this year and has been subject to thorough investigation since it was reported to us the day after. The victim and his family are receiving ongoing support from police and other agencies.’

The force added: ‘Safeguarding measures have been put in place for the victim and his family.

‘A previous unconnected incident on 7 October, in which the victim suffered a wrist injury, was also fully investigated at the time. Three youths were interviewed. There was no further police action and the matter was referred to the school.’

According to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Jamal, his younger sister has also been a victim of bullying and tried to cut her wrists in the school toilet as a result.

Mohammed Tahir, who set up the fundraiser, said: ‘Jamal’s family are refugees in the UK and they struggle to meet the basic necessities of life.

‘We want to raise money for the family to ease their situation and hopefully they can use the funds to help improve their quality of life and to put a smile on their faces.

‘Having left a war torn country, the least they deserve is to live in peace without being harassed.’

Mr Tahir, whose campaign has raised more than £40,000 at the time of publication, said that he had spoken to Jamal and that he and his family are ‘doing well’.

He said: ‘After seeing the video of Jamal being bullied I had an idea of setting up a Go Fund Me page for Jamal and his family.

‘I’m overwhelmed by the support that we’ve received and I can’t thank everyone enough for the generous donations they have made.

‘I am working alongside GoFundMe so we can make sure every last penny gets to the family and I want to thank them for their support.’

Barry Sheerman, MP for the town, said he had been supporting the boy and his family.

He tweeted: ‘Video of assault against one of my constituents absolutely shocking.

Horrible to watch.

Hope the lad is dealt with sternly and others learn that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable.

A prank? Really !

Look at the lad's face, it doesn't look like it was part of a prank.

Single mother.

Where is the father ? Where is the positive male role model ?

Look at almost every psycho adult whether a 'Islamist' or Nazi terrorist and they share that one characteristic in common. Broken homes.

That's not an excuse it's part of the reason

Even the poor boy's sister has been attacked! Somehow survive all the violence in Syria, make the adrous journey to the UK.....and then this!

One gets the feeling that Huddersfield school doesn't like refugees in general! That's a growing UKIP voter base right there, imagine all these younglings growing into adults!

More news from Yorkshire

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: "We have been made aware of a video showing a girl being assaulted at Almondbury Community School.

"The incident had not previously been reported to the police but we are now liaising with the girl's family who we are continuing to support."

The first video, showing the boy being dragged to the ground before water is poured into his face, was filmed during a lunch break on 25 October, West Yorkshire Police said.

His father, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the BBC the attack had left his son "very tired psychologically".

"Because of what happened in the video my son is shattered," he said.

"He is not concentrating on his studies. When he is asleep he wakes up saying they want to beat me up."

In an interview with ITV News, the boy said he had been left "feeling like I couldn't study or do my homework".

In a letter sent to parents, headteacher Trevor Bowen said: "The safety and welfare of students is our number one priority and I can assure you that this situation is being taken extremely seriously."

An online fundraising page set up to help the 15-year-old boy and his family has so far raised more than £100,000.

So this what likes of Farage/Le Pen & other Trump minions of Europe want, right?

Yes. The far right including Steve Lennon want to ethnically cleanse Muslims from Europe. The first task is to radicalise non Muslim youth againt Muslims. This is now in full swing. These youth will eventually grow to become young adults and the aim is to recruit them or to allow them to create youth movements that will concentrate on applying further pressure on Muslims.

Eventually they are hoping they can "heard" Muslims into set areas e.g. Leicester, Areas of london, areas of Manchester. While this is going on they will shaping public opinion. Eventually they will get the govt to move towards this trend to appease public opinion. Once this has been accomplished laws that are related to naturalisation will be changed. After this Muslims will eventually be forced to leave by making their lives so miserable that they will either just pack up and go or get attacked after which they will leave.

the few that remain will be dealt with as second class citizens..

This is the plan.

I don't think there is any such plan as such, the aim as far as there is one, would be for Muslims that are here to be brown Englishmen like Sajid Javid who don't identify as Muslims. A Spanish Inquisition-lite if you like. Unlike that episode, I don't think in this day and age it would be necessary to use force, just make life miserable enough for Muslims to voluntarily give up the outward identifiers with the faith such as the hijab or perhaps public mosques eventually.

Is this what muslims believe to be true?.

I am amazed by the hypocracy but surely not surprised. Attack on innocents is not acceptable in any forms but what is astonishing is double standards.

Flashback to last year, there was a video where a muslim immigrant attacking a handicapped Dutch boy in crutched. No one blinked an eye lid, no one called it a rascits attack etc. Infact Media, politicians and of course leftists criticized Donald Trump saying how dare you share those videos. No one paid any sympathy to the boy got attacked in the video but rather accused Trump on spreading Islamophobia.

Now, one Syrian kid gets attacked by supposedly a non muslim guy, and suddenly it becomes a rascist attack.

This blatant hypocracy makes me sick. But the good thing is, most people have realized this hypocracy.

Just so we are both on the same page, you are stating that Farage, le Pen and Trump are on board with Steven yaxley Lennons plan.

You one of those sheep that believes anything negative regarding Muslims. The case you are highlighting- there was no evidence the perpetrator was a Muslim immigrant.

Oh my bad let me clarify. That is Yaxley lennons stated plan. I dont believe Trump or Farage have stated this explicitly but I do believe it is LE pens plan although I cannot verify this due to her vague statements. Yaxley lennon has no such qualms. He is also an adviser to the leader of UKIP now.

Although Farage has not explicitly made any such statement he has used the atmosphere to his benefit.

Hope that clarifies.

Tommy Robinson has claimed the Syrian refugee at the centre of a video going viral is "not innocent".

The comments from the English Defence League founder come after the teen accused of bullying the 15-year-old who was attacked at school in Huddersfield broke his silence.

The 15-year-old was filmed being threatened with drowning in a video shared on social media.

The refugee has subsequently said he no longer feels safe studying there as fresh footage emerged on Wednesday

But Robinson, addressing the situation on Facebook today, claimed the boy is "not innocent" in a six-minute video posted to followers.

"This has been blown up," the ex-EDL leader told his followers.

The video has been shared widely, with thousands of comments.

The refugee has subsequently said he no longer feels safe studying there as fresh footage emerged on Wednesday of what was said to be the boy's sister being physically abused, also at Almondbury Community School, in Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Police said a 16-year-old boy has been interviewed over the attack on the boy, and reported for summons for an offence of assault ahead of a youth court appearance.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, is understood to have written a letter, published by The Sun Online, after footage was circulated on social media of the alleged attack.

The boy was questioned by police over the footage in which the 15-year-old victim, with his arm in a cast, is thrown to the ground.

To keep up-to-date with crime in your community, join the Birmingham Crime Watch Facebook group where you will be alerted to any suspicious or criminal behaviour happening in your area.

He is dragged to the floor by his neck before his attacker says, "I'll drown you", while forcing water from a bottle into his mouth.

It reads: "I fully accept responsibility for my actions which I regret but wish to make it clear I was not responsible for breaking his arm, nor had I been bullying him over a period of time as has been reported.

"The incident was isolated and came about from an altercation between us earlier that day. The incident was not racial as up to that time we had been on good terms.

"I have now been charged with common assault, not racially-aggravated as has been reported."

ITV News reported the victim fled war-torn Homs with his family and now feels unsafe going to the school following the incident last month.

"I woke up at night and just started crying about this problem. They think I'm different - different from them," he told the broadcaster.

"I don't feel safe at school. Sometimes I say to my dad, 'I don't want to go to school anymore'. I was just crying and I didn't do nothing because I respect the school rules."

Supporters say they are organising a peaceful protest outside the school on Thursday.

He appears not to have been the only victim, with a fresh video emerging of a hijab-wearing girl pushed down a grass verge and shoved by a group.

The family's lawyer, Tasnime Akunjee, said it is the boy's 14-year-old sister and she was attacked on Tuesday morning.

West Yorkshire Police said: "We have been made aware of a video showing a girl being assaulted at Almondbury Community School yesterday (27/11).

"The incident had not previously been reported to the police but we are now liaising with the girl's family who we are continuing to support.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Kirklees District CID via 101."

A Facebook account believed to belong to him features numerous posts shared from the page of English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson, a convicted fraudster whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

One of those posts, apparently referencing comments by Boris Johnson about Muslim women wearing veils, read: "Should Britain ban letterboxes because of all the trouble they're causing?"

Robinson was jailed for contempt of court earlier this year after posting videos about a child grooming trial involving a group of Asian men from Huddersfield. He was later freed on appeal.

The 16-year-old gave The Sun Online a handwritten statement in which he accepted responsibility for his actions, but denied bullying the younger boy.

"The incident was isolated and came about from an altercation between us earlier that day. The incident was not racial as up to that time we had been on good terms," he said.

The widely-shared video of the first attack prompted wellwishers to set up an online crowdfunding page for the victim which received more than £105,000 in donations over a day.

West Yorkshire Police said: "The incident occurred on October 25 this year and has been subject to thorough investigation since it was reported to us the day after.

"The victim and his family are receiving ongoing support from police and other agencies."

The force said another "unconnected" incident occurred on October 7 and left the boy with a wrist injury.

Mr Akunjee said it was another example of bullying and caused the boy's broken arm, requiring the cast seen in the video.

Three children were interviewed but officers left the matter to be dealt with by the school.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman said the video of the assault against one of his constituents was "absolutely shocking".

"Understand from council that the school have taken strong action. Will be following up to ensure all available support is being given," he tweeted.

In a letter to parents on Wednesday, Almondbury Community School headteacher Trevor Bowen said: "Since the incident occurred in October, the school, the local authority and the police have all taken action.

"We must allow the legal process to take its course, but I want to be absolutely clear that we do not tolerate unacceptable behaviour of any sort in our school.

"I can also assure you that we are working very hard to ensure it is 'business as usual' across the school and that there is no disruption to the children's education."

Dr Lisa Doyle, director of Advocacy at the Refugee Council, said: "We are utterly shocked and appalled by the attack on a 15-year-old boy who came to the UK in search of safety.

"The idea that someone escapes war and brutality, only to be met with violence here, is truly awful.

"We have been heartened by the fantastic outpouring of support from many members of the British public who are sending a clear message that nobody in our community should be treated in this way."

Speak for yourself, I am not an immigrant. You need to integrate a bit more before understanding British mindset. Bear in mind I said 'integrate' not ingratiate. Two similar sounding words but there is a difference in meaning.

My third ever tweet was regarding this topic, I joined Twitter a month ago, not so prolific on Twitter as I am here.

I was just as angry as the next man when I see the video, first thing yesterday morning.

By the afternoon my view had changed. My friends and I faced much worse in the first years of secondary school, starting in 1980.

Admittedly there were only 20 Asains in a school of 1200. Our local secondary was closing. The estate kids physically picked on us and the richer kids psychologically lorded it over us.

I see the video once, iirc he poured water while holding him down. Hardly waterboarding.

Yes, if Syrian kid saw war, he might have PTSD and that puts a different spin on it, bit come on its hardly Mississippi Burning.

I just feel that since the Brexit vote, there seems to be a different atmosphere in Britain. There's an unpleasant feeling as you travel around towns and cities in the UK. There seems to be a lot of looking down on ethnic minorities and a horrible feeling and a lack of harmony amongst the people.

Not nice to see however this happens up and down the country and similar happened to me and my siblings growing up in the 80s Being picked on in school or bullied is hardly a new phenomena in the uk

Not surprise Tommy Robinson the clown defending the bully.

I think its a mix of Islamaphobia, bullying & racist parents but people are getting carried away on this thread. For every racist there are 5 who oppose racism in the UK. Over £120k has been raised in a day or so, fair to assume the donors were mostly white English people.

Agree, it is an unpleasant situation and I don't know the whole backstory but similar and worse happened to me at school in the 1980s, some racially motivated some not and I saw alot worse happening to other kids with victims and perpetrators coming from all different backgrounds.

Doesn’t make it right does it
This bigot has firmly got some mud in his face and backlash to suit, no school will acccept this and without an English GCSE he’l spend the rest of his life as a taxi driver scrounging off child benefits while making his wife work 40 hours a week

Bullying happens in many schools, sometimes its racism sometimes its just bullying

The bullies need to be thaught a lesson

Huddersfield school refugee's sister 'also attacked'

A video appearing to show the sister of a Syrian refugee being attacked at the same school where her brother was allegedly assaulted has emerged.

Footage circulated online shows the boy, 15, being pushed to the ground at Almondbury Community School in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

A 16-year-old is to be charged with assault.

Further video of a separate incident allegedly shows the boy's sister being attacked by other pupils.

An online fundraising page set up to help the 15-year-old boy and his family has so far raised more than £100,000.

So you agree with lennon then? What a surprise..

Kasme, can you read fella? Is that what you got from that? I didn't say he was 'not innocent'. I said It isn't quite Mississippi Burning.

As to my views on if and when Robinson becomes Prime Minister. You think he isn't going to treat me as a Muslim? Furthermore it would be horrific for all my family and friends

Bullying happens in many schools, sometimes its racism sometimes its just bullying

The bullies need to be thaught a lesson

There is a good case, esp. in school it is bullying. When you bully a non-native in this country, it is called racism. When you bully a female, it's sexism.

Not nice to see however this happens up and down the country and similar happened to me and my siblings growing up in the 80s Being picked on in school or bullied is hardly a new phenomena in the uk

I think that is the worry, that we are seeing signs of a return to that era with the rise of the 'alt-right', we really have made a lot of progress since then, you just wonder if we could be slipping backwards.

I think associating bullying at school with the rise of the alt-right is stretching things a bit to far. Ever since time began there has been bullying at school, what ever the reason a kid gets bullied for is not the root cause, it could be because of their shoes, hairstyle, clothing, fathers occupation, lack of knowledge, place of residence or anything that makes them different from the bully. Its not a "alt-right" v "migrant" issue.

The kid is a bully and needs to be educated on how he can still feel good about himself without displaying dominance over someone else.

The sad thing is the kid who was bullied will now feel even more separated from the rest because the focus is on his differences and not on the bullying. Both the bully and the kid he bullied should have been bought together and educated on how they have many thing in common and the bully could hear the kid he picked on tell him what its like to be bullied. You have to mend these problems not expand them and divide people.

I was talking more in general terms rather than this one incident, but if you think that the general anti-immigrant mood doesn't have an affect which leads to a rise in incidents like this one, then I think you are either very naive, or deliberately trying to shift blame. Tommy Robinson has been making fake claims that the Syrian kid attacked another girl and the bully was in fact defending her honour. Only problem is that the girl in question has denied that ever happened. Do you think Tommy would dare to make public pronouncements like that unless he thought there would be a receptive audience?

The perpetrator was a keen follower of Yaxley-lennon and his facebook was full of support for Britain first and the EDL. The Syrian kid had been bullied for months "because he was a syrian" . It made him a target. Yaxley-lennon then further compounded this by accusing the victim rather than the other way around. Thus playing into his support base's desire to always play the victim.

The kid is a bully and needs to be educated on how he can still feel good about himself without displaying dominance over someone else.

He is a "racist islamaphobic bully" who has been conditioned by his mother a known racist and brother a football hooligan to hate anyone who is different. He has felt brazen enough to allow this incident to be filmed because they feel they are now immune to criticism as attacking Muslims is becoming a common theme in the UK.

Firstly what do you mean by the "rest of us?" your not British. Secondly it is the prerogative of the host community to treat the vulnerable well and to show compassion to refugee's. Afterall isnt this what we hear? How Britain and the west are so compassionate to refugee's? isn't this what you say? It seems your actions are different to your words. I'm glad this was highlighted to show the reality of what is actually going on out there and hopefully a lesson to other racists and their apologists that you cannot do this in society anymore.

regards

Firstly, it's "hypocrisy" not hypocracy, and "racist" not "rascist".

Secondly, that video Trump retweeted was NOT of a Muslim immigrant. The attacker was not a migrant as confirmed by the Dutch Prosecutor's Office, nor even a Muslim. Trump was hence criticised for lying, which is his occupation.

Thirdly, you have received TWO replies debunking a blatant lie that you are disseminating, and have ignored both. Can you please retract your post and avoid making false assertions not based on facts ?

Syrian refugee thanks supporters after Huddersfield school attack

A 15-year-old Syrian refugee who was filmed being attacked by bullies has thanked supporters at his school in Huddersfield.

The boy, who has been named as Jamal, met a group of around 30 concerned people outside Almondbury Community School on Thursday.

The teenager told supporters "thanks for everything" before leaving with his father. The group held an hour-long meeting with headteacher Trevor Bowen to address concerns.

Imam Mohammed Pandor, one of those among the group, said the meeting was "very productive".

He said: "Clearly when someone comes from Syria, fleeing Assad's regime, coming to a place like this, when you get treated that way, that's an issue. And the whole world is looking at us.

"We can't accept this type of behaviour whether the victim is Muslim or non-Muslim. It really doesn't matter."

Outrage over the assault saw an online appeal set up to help his family, which raised more than £130,000 in 24 hours.

In an ITV interview the boy said he did not feel safe at school and has been left traumatised and frightened by the attack.

He said: "I woke up at night and just started crying about this problem. They think I'm different - different from them.

"I don't feel safe at school. Sometimes I say to my dad, 'I don't want to go to school anymore'. I was just crying and I didn't do nothing because I respect the school rules."

The boy's sister was also filmed being attacked on Tuesday, in a video that showed other students attempting to pull her hijab off.

Both teenagers have said they will no longer attend the school in Huddersfield and have said they are looking into what to do next.

But they said they are concerned over threats on social media towards the boy who allegedly assaulted Jamal, saying: "I don't want anything terrible to happen to him at all. I just don't want anything bad to happen to anyone."

A 16-year-old boy has been interviewed over the attack, and reported for summons for an offence of assault ahead of a youth court appearance.

West Yorkshire Police said another "unconnected" incident took place on 7 October in which Jamal was left with a wrist injury.

Three children were interviewed but officers allowed the matter to be dealt with by the school.

Thats all good and fine but what is your long term solution, do you want this Syrian boy to fit in and become one of the community or is it just a chance for promotion of hatred between two groups on their differences.

The kid is a bully and needs to be taught that you cannot treat people that way, he can think what he likes but under no circumstances can he treat people with violence, that is just not acceptable. If he is made to face the kid he bullied and learns that they are both people with feelings, kids need to see what effect their bullying has to understand why they need to stop.

The bully can hate muslims (just like some on this site hate americans or jews) that is his perogative but he cannot be violent towards them.
