Priyanka Chopra has been called a hypocrite and accused of “encouraging nuclear war” over a tweet she posted supporting Indian armed forces amid escalating conflict with Pakistan.

On 26 February, the actor posted a tweet saying “Jai Hind”, meaning “victory to India”.

The post also included the hashtag #IndianArmedForces.

The tweet followed a series of airstrikes by India that triggered a retaliatory response from Pakistan, and resulted in an escalation in hostilities between the two nuclear-armed countries over the disputed region of Kashmir.

On Saturday, the former Miss World was confronted by audience member Ayesha Malik at BeautyCon in Los Angeles about the message.

As Chopra was taking questions at the event, Malik approached the microphone and called the Bollywood star a hypocrite for “encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan” while serving as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

“So it was kind of hard hearing you talk about humanity, because as your neighbour, a Pakistani, I know you're a bit of a hypocrite,” Malik can be heard saying in a video of the incident posted on Twitter, which has since received more than 71,000 likes.

“You are a UNICEF ambassador for peace and you're encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan. There's no winner in this,” Malik continued.

The microphone was taken away from Malik towards the end of her statement.

Chopra defender herself against the criticism, stating that while war is not something she is “fond of” she is “patriotic”.

“Whenever you're done venting ... got it, done? Okay, cool,” the actor said, before launching into her response.

“I'm sorry if I hurt sentiments to people who do love me and have loved me, but I think that all of us have a sort of middle ground that we all have to walk, just like you probably do as well,” Chopra said.

“The way you came at me right now? Girl, don't yell.

“We're all here for love. Don't yell. Don't embarrass yourself. But we all walk that middle ground, but thank you for your enthusiasm and your question and your voice."

Malik later addressed the incident on Twitter, accusing Chopra of ignoring her question and making her look like “the bad guy”.

“It took me back to when I couldn't reach my family because of the blackouts and how scared/helpless I was,” Malik wrote.

“She gaslit me and turned the narrative around on me being the 'bad guy' — as a UN ambassador this was so irresponsible.

“Sorry, didn’t realise that speaking on a humanitarian crisis was ‘venting’.”

Last week, Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan, warned that war could break out with India after its neighbour announced plans to revoke the semi-autonomous status of the disputed region of Kashmir.

The head of Pakistan’s army, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, also vowed his forces will “go to any extent” to support the people of Kashmir.

“The Pakistan army firmly stands by the Kashmiris in their just struggle to the very end,” he said.

“We are prepared and shall go to any extent to fulfil our obligations in this regard.”

Pakistan, which claims Kashmir as its own territory, and India have previously fought two wars over the Himalayan region.

Since when did saying “Jai Hind” = encouraging nuclear war.

That would like accusing someone who says “Pakistan Zindabad” (when Ind-Pak tensions are high) of encouraging nuclear war.

It’s a ludicrous accusation.

She's been dragged on Twitter and cancelled. This girl who's pulled her at the event on twitter has got nearly 50,000 retweets on the subject. Suddenly it's the woke kids Vs the Bhakhts and there's only gonna be one winner in this online war, the more the world gets to see the ignorant Bhakhts in action, the better it is for Pakistan and it's point of view.

There's a video showing Priyanka using planted autograph hunters, it's so humiliating.

She said Jai Hind Indian armed forces, after they had crossed a border illegally and bombed an innocent unarmed Pakistan tree.

Not exactly UN material is it.

Saw the video. When the mic was forcefully being taken away from that lady, priyanka acted sarcastic by saying are you done venting.

She even went on to say that people love her and bla bla. Wow. What an ambassador

Thank god she got exposed like this.

She said jai hind #indianairforce after the army came to pakistan territory and dropped a bomb. She can have these opinions but she cant take up roles in unicef.

Am I missing something. Just watched the video. The young lady is accusing Priyanka Chopra of supporting nuclear war because Priyanka says 'Jai Hind'!

I mean, did Priyanka Chopra actually tweet or write that India should nuke Pakistan, or something on those lines. Maybe she did, which is why this young lady was accusing Priyanka of supporting a 'Nuclear war'.

Wow. Never new that the threshold for a nuclear war had become so low these days. So 'Jai Hind' and 'Pakistan Zindabad' are reason enough to fire away nuclear missiles at one another now.

She was clearly stumped and couldn't answer the question so had to resort to condescending and petty behavior.

She said Jai Hind Indian airforce after they became aggressors against a sovereign nation who was accused without any evidence of pulawama attack.

This lady rightfully got exposed, Indians align more with trump's right wing ideology than liberal folks in hollywood.

Read other people’s replies/comments.
Still think it was ok?

My opinion of PC has dropped given the manner in which she butters up to the American audience and has more or less refused to work in Bollywood again. I thought she would be better than Aishwarya in this regard but clearly not

Agreed she can't be holding on to Unicef peace ambassador roles if she is encouraging war between two countries

Very unbecoming of someone who's supposed to be UN's ambassador for peace.

Imagine if Malala tweeted Pak Army Zindabad after we captured Abhinandan. It's a simple concept which most Indians are failing to comprehend for some reason.

Okay to do what? Pakistani actors/celebrities are tweeting 'Pakistan Zindabad'. Indian celebrities are tweeting 'Jai Hind'. Neither the Pakistani or Indian celebrity tweets can be stretched to mean 'supporting nuclear war'.

People need to take a chill pill. And calm down.

I still don't understand who Malala tweeting 'Pak Army Zindabad' somehow means 'Malala is supporting nuclear war'? Since Pakistanis seem to comprehend that logic, can you please explain that to me?

Hollywood’s support to Israel is very similar, although cunning got to say, they are completely involved in and across.

Hollywood’s liberals only speak against their conservative govn and that too many others are registered republicans clint being one.

Sorry am I missing something? Are these other actors UNICEF Peace Ambassadors?

Okay, got it. So when UNICEF Peace ambassadors say 'Pakistan Zindabad' or 'Jai Hind' only then does those words somehow translate to mean 'I support nuclear war'.

But if we remove UNICEF Peace ambassadorship from that celebrity, then that point on the tweet 'Pakistan Zindabad' or 'Jai Hind' magically reverts to its actual meaning, 'Pakistan Zindabad' or 'Jai Hind'.

Thanks for clarifying.

Listen, you really need to analyse few news outlets before you start mouthing off, indians hav a habit of trusting indian propaganda.

Why would pakistan or kashmiri separatist attack pulwarma just months away from elections knowing this will incite hindus to vote right wing modi?

It didnt make sense, then there an article from Mr Hersh in guardisn saying israel assisted india in attack in pakistan.

Now intelligent people will put 2+2 together to see what really happened.

Chopra getting rowdy on pakistan was unacceptable. Always when u hav problem you blame pak when clearly you have an population in kashmir which hate your guts.

Take off your jingoistic blinders and ask yourself that question.

I don't understand how pulwama, Israel, elections, etc. come into a simple question:

How does saying 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' get translated to mean 'I support nuclear war?'

Since when unicef member are not allowed to praise their countries.Jaihind is not a wrong term.PC is allowed to express her own views like the lady is doing. That lady needs to take chill pill and stop trying to get her two minute fame.

Agree. UN Peace ambassadors could be doing a million things. However however that still doesn't explain a simple question:

How does saying 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' get translated to mean 'I support nuclear war?'

:)) Ignoring the hashtag and the context it was tweeted in, how oblivious can you be.

Glad someone pulled her on it, skumbag. Their entire nation is a massive war monger. Look at Anupam Kher's disgusting tweet earlier.

I thought she was a decent person being a UN ambassador esp helping children but seems the woman is nothing more than a narrascist. What kind of idiotic response was it from here? 'Everybody who loves me, I have many friends in Pakistan etc' lol.

However she can say what she likes but next time should wait before tweeting Jai Hind because it was a bit embarrasing for her and other Indians after Jai Hind became Chai Hind. :yk

Respect to the girl who had the courage to make such a point.

Hopefully the idiots in Pakistan who see Indian actors and cricketers as heros will understand those same Indians will be celeberating if an Indian bomb kills you or your family.

People need to stop looking for an excuse to create headlines. There is no humanitarian crisis going on which is new. What is this Nuke nonsense, they are using this as some catch phrase.Do they even realize what the hell they are talking about.

:)) Ignoring the hashtag and the context it was tweeted in, how oblivious can you be.

Friend, which context or hashtag changes the meaning of 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' to 'I support nuclear war'?

Aaj kal to koi NUCLEAR war ke neeche to baat karta hi nahin hai :)

So Priyanka became PP darling and bhakat enemy when she visited the Rohingya refugee camp, when Quantico had the Hindutva terror plot, when she wished for Diwali sans crackers without sermonizing other religious festivals.

Now that she said she is patriotic and pro Indian army (both her parents worked as doctors in Indian Army btw making her an army brat), she is number one villain for so many Pakistanis and an Indian patriot. Funny how the world works, people get hated no matter what they say or do.

Perhaps we should all follow the wise monks and renounce the world. Ever since social media became a part of our lives mental peace has taken a beating, people invent ways to complain and feel offended. Not to mention how it dumbs down the discourse, neither is the world black and white, nor can there be any effective communication in 280 characters.

Supporting any attack by one nuclear armed nation against another is indirectly supporting nuclear war.

Btw not much of a patriot ran off to marry some schoolboy in America and no son of a Hindutva leader :yk

Good post, for once you see both sides of the issue.

I don't understand how pulwama, Israel, elections, etc. come into a simple question:

She fell into the bandwagon that pakistan did pulwarma without any proof and she kind of like validated India's narrative in front of her fans.

So would you also advise Pakistani celebrities to not tweet 'Pakistan Zindabad'?

Who is that lady and why was she shouting in the first place?Where is she from?

She fell into the bandwagon that pakistan did pulwarma without any proof and she kind of like validated India's narrative in front of her fans.

How does any of that cause saying 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' to suddenly mean 'I support nuclear war?'

We've never liked lmaooo, Pakistanis realized how most Bollywood stars were just warmongerers after the Kashmir conflict back in February.

She or Imran Khan are free to marry whoever they want, of which ever nationality, regardless of what you are I feel about it. Shouldn't be our concern.

So Pakistani celebrities writing 'Pakistan Zindabad' on twitter, just like Priyanka wrote 'Jain Hind', are all supporting 'Nuclear war' then? Unless this only applies to Indian celebs.

She fell into the bandwagon that pakistan did pulwarma without any proof and she kind of like validated India's narrative in front of her fans.

That's not the reason. She was condemned because she tweeted "Jai Hind #IndianArmedForces" after the Indian airforce dropped bombs in Azad Kashmir, she was cheering on war and that's what she was called out for. There were many other Bollywood celebrities that tweeted the same but they weren't UN Goodwill ambassadors unlike Priyanka Chopra.

Great job.

This is what needed to be done on regular basis, expose racist Hindutva ideology on every forum and Hindutva trolls.

This has highlighted, again, the racist ideology of Hindutva and extremism, not only in Kashmir but also among Indian celebrities.

She supported a radicalized extremists nationalists hindu PM attack on sovereign nation without any evidence.

As a UN ambassador should be promoting peace but she knew if she were to do that then her fellow citizen, Hindutva, would chew are on every forum, she had no choice but she was rightly put in her place.

Nothing unexpected from a wannabe western. Doesn't effect her anyway since she is sucking up to Americans.

Any celeb who is a peace ambassdor should not be supporting war of any kind. A 5 year old child would understand this but getting this through the heads of Indians is another matter.

Why are you being biased?
She obviously appreciated the act which is why she said jai hind.

Which act did she appreciate, nuclear war? And if any Pakistani celebrity writes 'Pakistan Zindabad' on similar tweets, then those two words 'Pakistan Zindabad' would mean 'I support nuclear war'? Wow, and I am the one being biased! :)

TThank you! For clarifying that if a celebrity becomes a peace ambassador that point on if they write 'Pakistan Zindabad' or 'Jai Hind' then it means 'I support nuclear war'.

I am presuming that once they cease to be peace ambassador, then that point on if they write 'Pakistan Zindabad' or 'Jai Hind' those words would revert to mean 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' without meaning 'I support nuclear war'.

Wow, we learn new things every day.

Yea! if the Pakistani celebrity is UN ambassador.

And promoting illegal war to help a radicalized extremists nationalist religious nut job to get re-elected.

If there is no bombing or conflict in progess by all means but if you want to promote peace but at the first sign of war you celebrate it, you are a hypocrite but you still wont get it.

Also it was not very good for a UN ambassador to promote eco-terrorism, poor trees were destroyed and this silly bird was celeberating. :yk

Who is that lady and why was she shouting in the first place?Where is she from?

She used to be an Indian Bollywood star, now she is living in America with her American husband Nick Jonas. I think ex-pats who move to a new country tend to wave their flags harder to try to prove they are still Indian at heart.

In my opinion, the mic should have had been taken once the subject has been off topic for a beauty con. A beauty con is for style, trend, dress etc which has no place for political agendas. She should not have been allowed to even finish the question.

Why sports authorities do not allow political agendas or even logo in the field? This is due to this exact reason. Imagine some cricket player making blanket statement about political scenario in a post match conference while taking the MoM. Is it appropriate?

i am not talking about Priyanka, I am talking about the lady on twitter.

Our Indian cohorts on this forum ignore the whole context of her tweet, they're either really dumb or just don't understand English.

Buddy you must be living under a rock when your news media was singing nuclear war in february. Let there be no mistake, any act of Indian aggression will lead to nuclear war so think twice about what your government is doing in Kashmir and what repercrussions it will have for rest of the region.

Not a fan of her but I don't think she was wrong .

I don't mind her comments. She has to show these periodic bouts of love for India to keep her name relevant there, but she has shown where her heart really lies with her new all-American life.

What Indian aggression you are talking about, they already were aggressive and did what they needed to do.What Pakistan will do is last thing Indian govt or people are worried about.

You know train has left the station when people are resorting to claim moral victories on twitter and shouting from rooftops won't shake anyone.

Another fascist bollywood ignorant..peace ambassador? ? Lol..she''s a racist and should be stripped of said position. But should he won't be..anybody who supports the Indian regime is a fascist Muslim hater..this should be a lesson to pakistanis on this forum who watches bollywood...

I don't think that is the case here, Priyanka was asked a question that too by very obnoxious person who thought she was somehow saving mankind by asking that question to a person who has nothing to do with the decision.

Other than gaining some likes and retweets, that lady has not done anything noteworthy.

Disagree, she married a white American, so she can hardly be called racist. Same as the other Bollywood stars like Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, not to mention the politician Nimrata Hayley. Anti-Muslim or anti-Pakistan perhaps, but racist? I don't think so.

I have read your posts in this thread. It seems you know the answer to the question you have been asking. But instead trying to get it answered by others in order to full fill this need to make a mockery off the complaint. There are times you need to get that nationalism off your head to see what is right or wrong. Part of the reason this women got questioned was for this very reason. She could not let nationalism go when she knows she is a peace ambassador. I am sure you know what this means but instead you choose to ignore it. So word of advise. If you are gonna ask a question than be honest about it instead of asking it in order to further your agenda. Otherwise your wasting your time and every bodies time.

I just read a post on social media from a Hindu saying she is a Muslim lover because she had been around famous Muslim actors when new in the industry. :yk

Fully agree about peace and not wanting to celebrate conflict etc. That still doesn't make 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' to somehow mean 'I support Nuclear war'.

People need to stop overhyping things.

Only she knows if she supports nuclear war, perhaps she was unware both nations are nuclear powers or perhaps she knows living with her American husband in America the radiation will not reach her caked up face?

Either way, it wont be too long before the UN get rid of her as an ambassador now.

Whether she supports nuclear war or the theory of evolution, whether she live in the US or in Sierra Leone, the meaning of the phrases 'Pakistan Zindabad' or 'Jai Hind' still do not magically change to mean 'I support nuclear war'.

Maybe she did at the time as many Indians did, we just dont know unless we can read her thoughts in the past.

She said Jai Hind Indian armed forces, after they had crossed a border illegally and bombed an innocent unarmed Pakistan tree.

Not exactly UN material is it.

UN material doesnot mean she will not support her own country.

No matter how much Pakistanis whine, like this girl in the OP, Indians will support their country.

Great to see young ladies from Pakistan question these so called celebrities. The question is spot on! Loved it!! Bravo young girl. Expose these **** for what they are!
