[VIDEO] Priyanka Chopra accused of 'encouraging nuclear war' by audience member at BeautyCon

Does she have American citizenship and has given up her Indian citizenship?

Yes folks like Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadela who were falling over each other trying to get rid of their Indian citizenship are still claimed as Indian CEOs by you folks since they reached positions of significance.

However, the rapper Hard Kaur is strictly British because she doesn't have Indian citizenship any more and speaks out against India.

Yes, that is where I learned that Indians are not allowed to have dual citizenship when cricketjoshila trumpeted this news that Hard Kaur was British so should shut up about affairs in India.

I'm not a Bollywood watcher so have no idea. I presumed living in the US with an American husband means she regards the US as her home now. Feel free to advise on her exact status if you wish.

Why should i advise her?

You were the one who claimed that she is now american.

Now if you can please substantiate that claim.

Pichai and Nadella are Indian origin ceo . Not Indian.

I think people are missing a simple point here. When Priyanka tweeted she like many other Indian's believed the attack was on terrorists who launched attack against India. UN Ambassador or not, any person would congratulate army of any country for neutralizing UN sanctioned terrorists.

Even many in India were surprised by Pakistan's reaction in the aftermath, people could not understand why Pakistan retaliated when Indian air force carried out attacks against terrorists and not Pakistani Army.

So when she tweeted I don't think she meant it as an attack on Pakistan.

Not everyone understands the world from a broader perspective, most believe what they are fed with.

And that is largely true for most people living in India.

And that is largely true for most people living in India.

Probably not most, since most people don't care about these things as for them most important issue is how can they get their next meal. Or other day to day issues.

But since we are 1.3 billion people even some people would be a sizeable amount.

Haven’t seen any of her films so don’t know how good an actress she is. In any case, Ayesha owned her.

Her mic was taken from her and then Priyanka started giving it back - not in a professsional or classy way mind you.

God help us if she is a UN ambassador.

So looks like she is working to get her green card and still seen as an immigrant trying to get into America. Hopefully her marriage to Nick Jonas will help cement her full citizenship.

^ Well written letter.

It makes no sense for someone who be a UN peace ambassador but also encourages war. What makes it even worse, under UN resoluations Kashmir does not belong to India, yet we have a UN ambassador supporting occupation.

The woman is a joke, get rid of her so she can enjoy her life in America.

I think Priyanka should first get her green card and concentrate on becoming a good American citizen. Immigrants are literally dying in their efforts for that green card, it seems unseemly for Priyanka to be representing the UN when she is neither sure of her nationality or her role in the organisation. It would be sensible to ask her to quietly step down.

She married some American teenager so should have her green card by now?

She found the easiest and most fool proof method of gaining American citizenship, that is by marrying a white American male with fame. Yet another Indian running away from shining India. On the forum we were being told that India is on the cusp of being a superpower.

On second thought, I think Priyanka was right. I mean when you have to read news like this

"Mika Singh banned by All Indian Cine Workers Association after Karachi concert"

"AICWA bans Mika Singh after his performance in Pakistan: No one in India will work with him"

you can understand the state of a celebrity's mind. They have to show their patriotism. :inti

Why do Pakistanis hold UN at such a high esteem? You even care about who UN ambassadors are. She's a nobody like a bunch of other UN ambassadors including UN. It has been a nincompoop organization. Just in the last two decades, parts of the Muslim world have been ravaged, pillaged and have gone back to stone age. Was UN able to do anything about it? Zilch. One would expect people from that part of the world to lose complete confidence in UN by now

I think priyanka is a multi millionaire and settling down in any country will not be an issue. Infact many western countries even US allows permanent residency to someone who can invest a million dollars in US. So thats least of the problem.

Dont know who told you she is not sure of her nationality. She said she is a patriotic Person.

She is not a refugee in the bread line, that she will have to resort to such means.

She is a multi millionaire celebrity who can literally buy herself a permanent residency in many western countries.

That's never enough for an old show woman though is it? She had a billion eyes staring at her, and that wasn't enough, she wanted more, and more, and more... Fred being the next Mariah Carey, sadly couldn't sing. But got Quantico... It did well, but then flopped and was taken off air, she started as the main antagonist in a movie starring Hollywood's biggest and most successful star, a guy whose last 5 or 6 movies had crossed the $500million dollar mark, surely this couldn't mess up for her, she would go on to become the top actress in Hollywood... But no, Baywatch flopped badly.

And now this, Ayesha Malik has pretty much left her irrelevant. Imagine learning to talk black, learning about social justice and listening to all their jokes and how anti black Indian culture is, and then after one event None of your friends wanna know you anymore.

Oh well, there's always Don 8 back in Bollywood.

Don 8 in bollywood likely make more money than the entire pakistani film industry.

And you think a pakistani girl can make Priyanka chope irrelevant. Lol. You guys massively over estimate your self.

I don't really get all this hate Priyanka is getting for just saying Jai Hind. How does Jai Hind = Nuclear war.

This is all so stupid.

It may well earn more money than all of Lollywood combined, but Priyanka had more followers than Ayesha Malik on social media, yet Ayesha got over 100,000 retweets with her post, and Priyanka has never got more than 20k, despite pushing for war lol. The people who are watching it will know they're watching trash. And Priyanka will have to spend the rest of her career thinking what have been. Jai hind indeed. Or is that jai hindered.

You're definitely not the sharpest pencil in the packet lol. The tweet was accompanied by #IndianArmedForces and it was tweeted RIGHT after India launched airstrikes on Pakistani soil, instead calling for peace she was cheering on the Indian army for its aggression thus encouraging a war with Pakistan but more importantly she gets more flak because she is ironically a UNICEF Ambassador for Peace , so her statement was very irresponsible and she doesn't deserve to be a peace ambassador.

It's too flattering to offer a prima donna like her the luxury of a 3-page (and counting) thread.

Cut it out guys.

Big deal. Honestly, no one really cares about the UN as it is. It's a nothing organisation with zero global importance. Secondly, she is Indian so what's the big deal about her supporting her own country's military.

I think this is just making a mountain out of a mole hill and Pakistani's are trying to one up India anyway they can and this is the most pathetic and absurd way to do it.

Priyanka obviously cared, it lets her play up her woke credentials, let's her thinks she's the 2nd coming of princess Diana, unfortuantely those days look to be over.

Modi obviously cared, he was wanting to be pictured with her, thinking being pictured with a UNICEF Ambassador would help cleanse him of his crimes during Gujarat riots, sadly that's all over too. Let's see how popular she is with that genocidal narcissist when she's not bringing in western cameras and audience with her

Last time I checked she's still the goodwill ambassador and all this crying over nothing hasn't changed that. You can whinge as much as you want but everyone knows that this is a non-issue. Give it two weeks and this will all die down and she will remain where she is i.e a global celebrity.

How long ago did she tweet that Jai Hind armed forces tweet?

I'll give you a clue, it was longer than 2 weeks ago. And it hasn't gone away. Despite her global celebrity (who has to pay for people to ask her for autographs)

https://twitter.com/swapnilnarendra/status/1068177226292699137?s=19

How pointless and silly.

The only reason it hasn't gone away is because Pakistani's all over the world will consider it a victory if she is removed from her position in the UN. No one, literally, no one else cares or is bothered about this other than Pakistani's.

You mean the people most at risk during a nuclear war which she was potentially championing? Unfortunately that's 200 million wanting answers. And going by those tweets, there's a number of people who are not Pakistani wanting her removed.

It is quite clear she is in transition as regards her nationality, she has moved to America and married an American. If anything I would think that her nationality will be American ongoing, and more power to her for that. I don't know why that is a problem for you.

She was condemned by many non-desis on social media for how she talked down to the Pakistani girl, many people termed her behavior as rude, anti-feminist and arrogant.

(CNN) The actress Priyanka Chopra, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, came under fire this week for scoffing at a Pakistani-American woman's challenging question to her at the BeautyCon summit in Los Angeles. Chopra had posted a tweet on February 26 that appeared to support an announcement from India that it had launched airstrikes in Pakistani territory.

At the event in LA, the woman chided Chopra for her unquestioning support of the Indian army at a time when India has revoked Jammu and Kashmir states' autonomy. The office of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan says India's move to change the region's status is in violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. And Pakistan's human rights minister has called the action tantamount to war crimes.

Chopra's response to her questioner in LA ("I hear you," she said. "Whenever you're done venting... Got it? Done? OK, cool," and added: "War is not something I'm really fond of, but I am patriotic"), as well as the February tweet, did have the effect of both shining a light on the crisis in Kashmir (despite India's media blackout and food blockade there), and forcing many of us to think about celebrity activism, its uses -- and its abuses. Celebrities who act as charity spokespeople should always focus on humanitarianism. Chopra -- again, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador -- should not be using her voice to legitimize a regime opposed to the values she claims to represent. (She told her questioner in LA, for example, "Girl, don't yell. We're all here for love. Don't yell. Don't embarrass yourself.")

This is important in Hollywood, but just as much in Bollywood, where the industry has too often been used to fuel hate and Islamophobia.

Celebrity activism often escapes the kind of scrutiny most political activism is subjected to. It is often seen as either positive or pointless -- but rarely dangerous.

It's easy to understand why. From Susan Sarandon greeting refugees on the coast of Greece, to Leonardo DiCaprio jetting around the world to protest climate change, the high-profile activism of Hollywood celebrities diverts us, but seems to present no threat to society.

But Bollywood is a very different beast. Perhaps alarmed by Hollywood's open opposition to his ally Donald Trump, Indian PM Modi has arguably co-opted and weaponized the country's film industry. It is difficult, often impossible, for Pakistani actors to find work in India. Pakistan is a Muslim majority nation, and Islamophobia is a top-down industry in India: at the top, hyper-nationalist films, songs and slogans teach the masses to hate. At the grassroots, Muslims have been killed for so-called "crimes," such as eating beef.

This makes Chopra's mistakes potentially all the more costly. Rather than use her position as a US-based celebrity to broaden what it means to be an Indian celebrity, she has fallen into the same jingoistic role that her fellow countrymen are forced to adopt at home.

It's this kind of failure that tempts many observers to insist that celebrities stay out of politics completely. Just look at the damage those ill-informed starlets can cause, they say, wading into issues they know nothing about. They should shut up and stick to entertaining us -- in silence.

These are issues I have struggled with for years. I'm well known in my native Pakistan and (increasingly) internationally, I have an audience that I can influence. Speaking up as a young woman, and especially as an artist, in Pakistan is not easy, so I have to pick my battles carefully.

My intention when speaking about women's rights, girls' education, or supporting humanitarian charity work is to unite people -- not divide them.

The only way to do this is to avoid the path of least resistance -- populist rhetoric -- and focus on the universal humanitarian causes that all sides can agree on.

This where Priyanka Chopra and others have made a mistake: by lending their name to racism dressed up as patriotism, they have done us all a disservice.

Some issues are too important to play politics with. One of those is Kashmir -- a small, impoverished territory where now India has made its move, heedless of an international community keen to avoid conflict between two nuclear armed states.

The humanitarian situation there is at a breaking point, with food and medical supplies being kept out as the territory is embargoed. Medical facilities are struggling to cope with a population that has been the victim of alleged war crimes that have not spared even young children -- including the "biggest mass blinding in history," when Indian troops fired pellets into crowds of Kashmiris to break up civilian demonstrations in 2016.

The irony is that hyper-nationalist Indians who dance to the same tune as Priyanka Chopra believe these civilians to be Indian citizens, meaning that those crimes are being inflicted on their fellow Indians.

This in itself is a nonsensical message that has been lost in the mirror maze created by a marriage of film and propaganda in too much of Bollywood -- a mirage that any fascist dictator would be proud of.

But it is human suffering that those with a platform must focus on. It also falls on other film industries, including my own in Pakistan, to counter the negative stereotypes pumped out in Bollywood.

That might be less lucrative or effortless than the alternative, but it is what humanity needs to see -- on screen, and on the streets.

It is something I would love to work with my Indian colleagues on -- including Priyanka Chopra.

This is an opinion piece by Mehwish Hayat. Pretty well written. Didn't think she had it in her.

CNN wants more traffic what better way to do it put anti India point of view. So again like these Pakistani pseudo Kashmiri sympathizers out to get their five minute fame.

lol. Do you actually read what you type or believe it? This makes no sense whatsoever. If CNN wanted more traffic they would appeal to the Indian population rather than the Pakistani population.

Surely you can't be this thick headed.

Pakistan asks UN to remove Priyanka Chopra as goodwill ambassador

Pakistan has lodged an official complaint with the United Nations, demanding the removal of Indian actress Priyanka Chopra as a UN goodwill ambassador over her "support for war" amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

In a letter to the UNICEF chief Henrietta Fore, Pakistan's human rights minister Shireen Mazari accused the 37-year-old actress and former Miss World of publicly endorsing the position of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist government in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Earlier this month, the Indian government revoked the partial autonomy of the Muslim-majority region and imposed an unprecedented security lockdown and communications blackout, saying it feared protests.

"Her jingoism and support for violations by the Modi government of international conventions and UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir, as well as support for war, including a nuclear war, undermines the credibility of the UN position to which she been elevated," Mazari said in the letter shared on her Twitter account on Wednesday.

"Unless she is removed immediately, the very idea of a UN goodwill ambassador for peace becomes a mockery globally," the letter added.

Another setback to Pakistan...UN rejects request by them to remove PC..

Unnecessary publicity for PC and embarrassment for Pak. The Pak woman already over reacted during the confrontation and Pak doubled down on it for no reason. An Indian woman saying Jai Hind is supporting nuclear war? The whole thing is an embarrassment for everybody including the rest of us.

What I didn't get was why were all these Pakistani female actors suddenly coming out of the woodwork up in arms. Seemed like a case of sour grapes over PC popularity.

understand this.

As anyone doing anything with UN, there is an idea of neutrality.

It’s not an elected position. She has been given a honorary position due to her reach and following. Similarly Anupam Kher has a honorary position for being an Indian celebrity. To assume these guys will forget their nation once they become big is a bit too much

The United Nation has responded to Pakistan's demand, to remove Indian actress Priyanka Chopra as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, saying that she retains her right to speak about issues that concern her.

Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday: "When UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors speak in their personal capacity, they retain the right to speak about issues that interest or concern them."

He said this during a daily briefing on Thursday while responding to a question about Chopra and added: "Their personal views or actions do not necessarily reflect those of UNICEF."

Petition to remove Priyanka Chopra as Goodwill Ambassador

Pakistan had demanded that Chopra be stripped of her UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador role, saying that her "support for war" and the Indian government amid heightened tensions in the disputed region of Kashmir make a "mockery" of the position.

In a letter addressed to UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore and posted online Wednesday, Pakistan's Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari asked for the former Miss World to be "immediately denotified" from her role.

Chopra was accused of "jingoism" and showing "support for war" by publicly endorsing the Indian government's position on Kashmir, a disputed region that is claimed in full by both India and Pakistan.

Earlier this month, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced it would strip autonomy from the state of Jammu and Kashmir -- its part of the Himalayan region. India imposed curfews and a communication blackout.

The move provoked a fierce reaction from Pakistan and demonstrations in support of Kashmir around the world.

Mazari said the Indian government's position on Indian-controlled Kashmir went "against the principles of peace and goodwill that befit a UN Goodwill Ambassador. He wrote: "Unless she is removed immediately, the very idea of a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Peace becomes a mockery globally."

This is hypocritical from PC On the one hand shes celebrating and encouraging bombs being dropped on a neighbouring country on the other she wants an end to global hate and war based on race borders and ethnicity

Does the same standards not apply when it comes to her own country?

PC is such a big hypocrite. She didn't utter a word about so many Indian migrants getting killed, probably due to fear of not antagonizing the Indian establishment.

Same goes for Kareena Kapoor. She too expressed outrage over this really unfortunate murder of George Floyd but didn't say a word about Indian migrants.

None of them expressed any outrage over police being active participant in NE Delhi riots in February.

It’s also a case that these people do not want to advertise problems and riots in India to the world which is why won’t speak on India’s social and communal problems on social media.

During the Delhi riots a few of my classmates were censured by their countrymen for sharing about riots on social media since it brought unnecessary bad light to India in front of American classmates I presume.

True. But being the hugely influential celebrities these ladies are, along with so many others, they should be ashamed of themselves if they let themselves be silenced by these thoughts.

Also, if they are castigating police force of another country for being heartless, it's hypocritical of them not to lay into their own police force.

Either shut up or be neutral.

Nothing about hypocrisy (which is not really a bad thing, we all have different standards for different people). Speaking about indian migrants will put them in the league of jholawala poor comrades. By speaking about racism in US, it puts them in the high league of hollywood woke celebrities. I know which company I would like to be seen in.

Speaking against government these days is a career suicide in India. Social media warriors will kill you. PC doesn't want all that, o think she has left her Indian roots behind and like millions of other NRI's who realise its futile to fight a losing battle.

If she has left her Indian roots behind she has nothing to lose by not being a hypocrite. Whatever, her choice. I can't believe however such a person is an Ambassador for UNICEF was it? Its pretty pathetic.

So she should ask her country to silently suffer terror attacks without retaliation?

They know that if they do, their ratings will slump, they will get less offers and soon be forgotten.

All about the rupees.

I mean do most of them really give a damn about a guy dying in America!

So she should ask her country to silently suffer terror attacks without retaliation?

I don’t recall british celebrities demanding military retaliation against a country/group/ religion on social media after the Manchester attacks.

The funny thing is that she didn’t post this on Twitter, where she knows that she would become a trend for abuse

Which one is her country now? I actually feel this latest tweet is much more in tune with her decision to leave India and embrace American life along with an American husband. Although having grown up in India, she can't have any genuine understanding of race relations in a mature multicultural society, she at least is trying to say the right things and integrate in a more enlightened environment.

Which is the difference between celebrities in US and India, with the latter being so meek with very few honourable exceptions.

Have read some of the statements ascribed to their top celebrities like Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Lady Gaga, Robert De Niro etc against Trump. Our so called celebrities could never ever come close to them in speaking their mind.

Many celebs from Tamil industry speak their mind boldly man, like Kamal Haasan, Prakash Raj, Vijay, Sethupathi. Some of them big names. I am sure we will find similar examples from Bengal, Kerala, Punjab industries.

From Bollywood Om Puri, Swara Bhaskar, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Nandita Das, Taapsee Pannu etc are quite bold, I am missing many other names. If you include directors, producers the list keeps growing. More bold than US celebs because Indian society is more uncivilized, you saw how public reacted to statements and acts by Aamir and Deepika, will that happen in western countries? I wouldn't say very few exceptions, there are many but the political/social atmosphere in India is far more toxic and vindictive than USA. Real blame lies with the media which acts like government spokesperson and tries its best to malign the image of these dissenters. Americans have one Fox Network, India has several and most of them make Fox look sane, loving and decent.

Sushant Singh raised his voice in support of protesters against CAA-NRC last year, also spoke about human rights violations in Kashmir, he was dropped from a popular show on Star. Let me know when that happens in USA, Indian celebs have a lot more riding, hence they have to be more cautious and sometimes do monkey balancing to please the political forces. I am sure many of us would act the same way if our jobs were at stake, self preservation is a trait which all humans have.

Yeah, southern celebrities have been breaths of fresh air in this toxic environment.

Most of the bollywood celebrities you mentioned are very very small in stature (at least in gullible public eyes) as compared to Kareenas and PCs.

Also I agree about the role of our media which is a complete sellout with very few exceptions.

Speaking of media, haven't heard much from N Ram for quite some time now. Where is he these days? Whats his stand on this bigot?
