[VIDEO] Sarfaraz Ahmed - Support Thread

so his 42 FC average is not a fluke? only time will tell when the real match starts. Remember recently Kami hit that many runs in a practice match but fail in real matches.

He seems a decent batter by his FC record. But - the primary responsibiliy of a WK is to take catches, make stumpings etc.

Adnan was good at that... unfair that he was dropped. But lets remember that this Pakistan cricket - no tour would be complete without at least one retarded selection error.

We've got Sarfraz for the next three matches and lets get behind the lad. If he doesn't do well - we can bring Adnan back.

This big score should bring a lot of confidence in his game...Good thing is that he survived the new ball spell too...Lets hope he will be able to take this confidence into the test match as well...First class average of 42 demands some outcome in test cricket as well..

Sarfraz cannot bat?!

Well he almost made a century today- outscored our entire middle order :) :sarfraz

Good stuff from him, hope he carries this form straight into the tests We' ll need solid contributions from him at 7 if we are to do well in this series

Very happy that Sarfaraz has silenced his critics, hope his captain who allegedly was questioning his place has now understood that it is better to allow the selectors to do their job and at the very least, support his players.

well done Sarfaraz!!!

Brilliant 93 runs ...!!!!! ON Your Face Misbah and Wattmore for crying over the selection of Him over Adnan..!!!!!

They had every right to cry over adnan akmal, he has been a consistent selection over the last two years in our test line. He has been performing well and gave our team stability, and in the ideal world he sould have been on the tour to SA.

he shouldn't be in the team because his last name isnt AKMAL :umarakmal:adnan:kami:)))

Hope he continues this form.. we would need solid performances from number 7 and 8 in most innings..

Don't see how this is relevant.

That said the hate for Sarfaraz is unwarranted, he has done nothing wrong and I have no idea on what basis people say that his batting is as good as a tailender.

Three reasons, Akmal groupies, Akmal family members and that Sarfraz is from Karachi...

Poor Shafiq got the same hate for all the above reasons...

On merit he didnt deserve it. But i suppose the selectors know their job more than most of us!

ahem ahem.. So what about the people that wanted to change the entire selection criteria :)

Great to see him perform,I hope he continues his form.

Well done, Sarfraz. Like I said, we replaced a 6/10 by a 5/10.

I hope the 5 turns out to be a 7 or an 8. We could then play him at 6 and play an agressive batsman/a bowler at 7 according to the situation.

However, I think many of the victorious posts in here should be tempered. The match wasn't televised (so we don't know whether Sarfraz kept good), the SAbowling attack was a third string one and conditions must have improved significantly since even JK and Gul scored more than the middle-order.

yes the guy scored its all because the conditions improved, and he scored infront of second string SA bowlers just like azhar, misbah and younis :)), give nothing to the batsman

Still has to perform against top bowlers ... Steyn and company will make a mince meat out of him and he is not great against spinners either.

I will reserve my judgement till the end of the series but good opportunity for him now that he has found his feet

On merit he always deserved selection in the test match side. It was very unfair to him, that the selectors kept picking one keeper after another (Rizwan, Zulqarnain and then Adnan) while giving him only one test match. His first class batting average is heads and shoulders above the rest of the keepers, and the glove-work is about on par, if not better.

It's still a very tough series - almost a debut series for him. I wish for him and Pakistan team's long-term future's sake that he does well both as a keeper and a batsman. We desperately need a reliable #7 batsman in the test match side.

I think a good test innings could be a catalyst to a decent career but without doubt this is a make or break series.

Not surprised, always knew Sarfaraz was a decent batsman. You can't average 42 in domestic if you are not.
BTW it would be funny to see what the Akmal Fan club comes up with to devalue Sarfarz's knock.

Sarfaraz Ahmed can be tried in Test only , he does not have the game for shorter formats.

in domestic he does hit big. It disappointed me he never replicated that in odis, though i hope if he does well in the tests he has the confidence to do so in limited overs. That and his keeping need to improve but so far so good i guess. I think during one of the practice games in pakistan Sarfraz hit 44* of 20. Confidence seems to be his issue , and i guess that's what degrades his keeping and batting, odd considering he is a world cup winning under 19 captain

i wish him best of luck for test series hope he impresses, but atleast today he showed to his captain who was against his selection, he can b better batsmen :sahmed

I fear that when the actual series will begin,Sarfraz will start quacking again.

The best wk/batter Pak had in recent time was Zulqi

Injustice cannot continue forever. Truth will prevail in the end.You have to give Sarfaraz a long run in the tests because I always knew he is a fighter. The same applies to Fawad Alam. Both of them have no links to powerful people like the akmals. Both have better domestic performances than the akmals, but both sarfaraz and fawad have been victimized in the past. This has nothing to do with regionalism but only based on performance and character. Everyone plays for Pakistan

And Adnan Akmal was all set to make a double century against them, right?

Finally justice is done and Sarfaraz was selected on merit which should have done long time ago but better late than never.

As for haters who are saying this is not the strongest SA bowling attack, need to see how well our middle order did against this same bowling attack.

Azhar Ali - 2
Younis - 5
Misbah - 4
Shafiq - 4

Sarfaraz came when Pakistan was under immense pressure and he performed under those circumstances. Plus add the pressure of captain/coach not wanting him in the team (as we have been hearing since his name was announced, so, not sure how much of this is true). Considering all the things he has been through I think he performed exceptionally well.

Lets put regional/race bias aside and give credit where its due.

I think Adnan has been lucky not get picked for this tour, and his hack like technique would have been exposed badly in SA.

Now if Sarfraz fails(batting) against best attack in the world, people would talk about Adnan coming back to the team and which he would and have all the luxury to bat on flat track of Asia and poor Sarfraz would suffer.

lets just reserve out criticism and over optimistism for the actual test, i reserve my judgement

but credit goes to sarfraz for performing before the test and this restores his own confidence and confidence on pak fans too that he can perform

time for sarfraz to prove once and for all who is the boss with the gloves

most of you here will be chewing on ur words, sarfaraz ahmed is a better gloveman and batsman than adnan or kamran, while adnan did a decent job but sarfaraz deserved this chance. Give his batting a chance he wasnt convincing in odis but hes a gritty batsman and good natural keeper

Adnan Akmal is just a glorified shotmaker. He does not have the capability of scoring big.

Good knock from Sarfaraz, I am by no means a hater but before this performance I wasn't really confident about his batting.

I think the more he plays for Pakistan the better he will get. He's averaging 40+ for a reason. It must mean he has talent with the bat.

I can only laugh at people who call him tailender and praise Adnan's batting technique. Sure Adnan can hold the bat but Sarfraz is by far the best batsmen we have among wicketkeepers. Keeping is rather his weaker link.

I hope he had improved on that as he'll be tested on these quick and bouncy pitches

I would say out of all these lot, Kamran Akmal is the best choice, him at number 7 is sure to get you some runs. And his keeping did improve a little against India. He looked beter then before.

Its not as if Sarfraz is a superior keeper, there keeping is the same level. Kamran is a better batsmen. So its a no brainer who they should have taken!!

Sarfraz Ahmed's First Class Average: 42.33
Shoaib Malik's First Class Average: 34.44

Relevence was that ..... Sarfraz has much better FC average than Malik..... so if he did well yesterday by scoring runs in South Africa, it is no surprise!

do you really think kamran would have done what sarfaraz did?
we don't want someone who is improving a little and can score some runs
we want someone who is in full form and can be on the ground hitting loads of runs

there were reports that Misbah was against Sarfraz's selection. But there were also reports that Misbah was the person behind the exclusion of Adnan.
So we dont know for sure what happened. So some of the fans should stop blaming Misbah. Just support the Pak team fully.

Words Kamran and keeper used in a same sentence should be criminal offence warranting death penalty :danish:akhtar

Lets not get too excited over Sarfaraz, Kamran is the superior batsman but having said that, I do not want to see him in the test team eve again.

Thats exactly what I said when he was first picked up. This is the toughest tour Pak has had for while and will have in coming year. Sending Sarfraz over Adnan all of a sudden looked like protecting Adnan and making Sarfraz look a bunny with the bat. Too bad the ploy hasn't worked so far.

As for Amjid Javed, he's on a vacation. He'll be back as soon as Adnan gets out for a low score.

Im no fan of Kamran, I think he is a bufoon.

Im merely suggesting that he is a beter cricketer then Sarfraz Ahmed. Until Pakistan find someone beter then Kamran, there is no point picking in cricketers which are worse then him.

Great to see him perform,I hope he continues his form.

Exactly my sentiment. Our players perform in side matches. When the real thing happens they fade away. If he performs our batting will get much needed help in shortening the tail.

Is it not a win-win situation for Pakistan? I hope and pray Sarfaraz does amazing and then become permanent member of team. And Adnan Akmal was not bad either, specially wicketkeeping part, so Pakistan will have good bench strength for wicket keepers in case some one gets injured. And Muhammad Rizwan can be groomed as well. Future looks good alhamdulillah.

i would rather have taufeeq umar keep then kamran .. plz stop talking abt :kami for Test team it boils by blood

Incredible performance, totally unexpected. I stopped following the match when Pakistan were 160 for 6, the result was more or less in SAF's hands, I felt the team will fold by 180 odd, but this simply remarkable. This is why cricket needs Pakistan, they surprise themselves. Don't know still Sarfraz gets a tad nervous when he gets to bat in a test match, anyhow hoping this fighter innings will giv him the confidence to do well and but he already has the will to compete, as he is a Pakistani from Karachi which has produced streetfighters like Saeed Anwar, Miandad, Basit Ali & Saleem Yousuf aka Tiger [he earned it by braving the unlimited bouncers of WI fast bowlers, got hit on the face but still stood his ground making an extraordinary 68 helping pakistan win the first test match and defeating the mighty Windies at home which had happened to them for 1st time in a decade.] Karachi cricketers have natural fighting instincts, i hope he does'nt surrender this image to them.

The openers did'nt have a problem, the tailenders [ bowlers ] like Junaid Khan, the amazing Umar Gul and the surprising Sarfaraz added 168 valuable runs to the total, what the hell happened to the middle order batting that got out cheaply.

Pakistan has a weak batting lineup cos these deadwood Misbah, Younis, Kamran Ak., are part of the team. For the sake of Pakistan Zaka Ashraf needs to follow Air Marshal Nur Khan and Tauqir Zia and get rid of the pathetic seniors from the team, these ppl r not irreplaceable and they're not even the calibre of players like, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwar, Inzi post 2003 WC or Asif Iqbal, Zaheer Abbas, etc. These cricketers r not indispensable but the name and the image of Pakistan is.

Sarfraz really showed guts and gritted his knock. Too bad didnt get a hundred but gave a very very good lead. Hope he repeats such performances in the real matches too. To be truthful i wont mind being spoiled with choices of keepers. It,s good to have two keepers. I always figures it would be adnan in tests and sarfraz in ODI. OH well. lets see his performance.

Brilliant again. Performed better then our middle order here.

Great to see someone contributing with the bat lower down the order.

Immense respect!

i just hope he doesnt fail in real test ... tht would b heart breaking .. hope he does well and shut mouth of haters

It's obviously a bit to early to say this but if sarfraz does well in the tests and is then retained for limited overs I'd like to see him play at 3 , in place of yk who should be dropped from the odi team regardless of test form.

Brilliant. If he can play in Africa then we must always have him in squad. Running was great by him. very good.

Agreed. Would love to see him performing. It would be great if our keeping problems would also be solved. They didnt give him a complete run after the asia cup and brought back kamran.
