[VIDEO] Shaheen Shah Afridi - Pace Watch

Shaheen’s pace

Does he bowl slower in tests? even in SA he wasn’t resting in the 140s much. I recall his pace in LOIs being a lot sharper. May be the case that he isn’t fully fit yet, wearing the covering on his bowling arm at the moment...be good to see more venom from him.

He was bowling at 140kph in his 32nd over of the game. Every bowler slows down a bit for tests. Cummins hits mid 140s in LOIs and yet normally operates between 137-142kph range in Tests. He was slower in South Africa but he was definitely not slow in this game

His pace is higher than it was in SA. He was around 140kph in the whole first innings here, in SA he was generally mid 130s.

He still has no concept of bowling in test cricket. He needs a lot of first class experience

He is natural 84/85 mph Bowler. Which with his height is fine but it will come down to whether he can move the ball into right handers. At the moment he can't.

What you on about?
His control was much better this game than back in SA where he was going for 3+ rpo. Pace was consistent, hitting 140 regularly even in later spells. His development is actually a positive and I’m sure he’ll continue to improve.

Lol. This guy comes with unusual stuff at time. I think he bowled pretty well and is definitely developing.

Actually I think he bowled well; at least on day 1 that I saw. Left armed seamer who challenges off stump.

Very promising prospect.

This is perfect oppertunity to learn from.starc i think similar heights ..he needs to use his height more also he shouldnt have shortened his run up.so early in his career

Was the bowler of the game for Pak bowled 36 overe with good intensity pace was up and very good control. Did not.move the ball.much but o one has to be honest

This. He bowled quite a few deliveries close to mid 140s. He is naturally a bowler who relies on seam movement and thus appears floating the ball and which looks like not that pacy which isn’t exactly the case. Though I think he needs to learn to hit the deck hard for Aus and SA tours atleast and its also good to have that variety on other surfaces.

That is why Naseem is looking a great prospect to me as he can already do a lot of things which many talented young pacers are still learning.

He looked to me 15-20% improved compared to Sa series which is an impressive development hopefully Naseem shows a similar trajectory these two are the only bright spot from another Downunder mauling.

Is he bowling a bit defensively? Expected a bit more venom from him - still very tidy.

Day 2 he went wicketless but was economical, which is important. With Abbas back in the side he could let loose a bit more alongside Naseem.

just needs to learn how to bowl bouncers. he has all the tools to be a great bowler and I am certain he will be.

Him and sameen is the future.

Shaheen is a fighter.

Still remember his over against Afghanistan when he got hit and got two wickets in that over, because he was furious.

I just love his fighting spirit and never give up-attitude.

For a 19 year old who's been fast tracked into the side he is doing superbly. We saw from Shadab, Hasan etc that once selected for the national side they quickly appeared to have already peaked. Shaheen has kept improving and seems like he'll continue doing so.

Shaheen bowled very well.People forget he is only 19 and is still developing. In home conditions Australia is very strong.Even very experienced bowlers find it hard going.

The pace was very impressive in this match. He was able to maintain his pace in the high 130s and low 140s throughout. That is a very good average speed in tests, around what Pat Cummins bowls.

its not abt pace... not always .. most bowlers bowl on avg in same range as SSA... he needs support from other end of a senior ... problem is he has played a total of 6 matches and he has the burden of the leader in this match ...

he needs FC pratice... only if we had a senior bowler to guide them in the match ....

His pace in inconsistent because his action is inconsistent. He can bowl 143 one ball, 135 next.

Naseem's pace is consistent because his action is consistent.

what the hell?i thought that was best he bowl in test format so far .He was consistently maintaining speed between 138 to 143 also line was much better there was not much freebies

Why people are not talking about his pace? Why is he continuing like this? Does the PCB medical panel and the physio of the team not know of this problem? Are they incompetent? Are they involved with Shaheen in this facade?

Ever since injury and comeback, first in 2022 WT20. His pace has dropped significantly. He's easily 8-10kph slower. He was not a consistent 145 bowler but he could be relied anytime to bowl 140+ for most of the game.

Last time I saw him touch close to 145 was in this year's PSL in the death overs. Where he bowled balls between 140 and 145 consistently. I can understand that in T20 you only have to bowl 24 balls as compared to ODI and Test. But we didn't saw Shaheen 140+ in this year's WT20 also. So what is happening? His pace is not the same since injury but we saw him bowl close to his pre-injury pace in this year's PSL. Are PSL speed guns incorrect by 10kph? (That cannot possibly happen).

To compare it with his counterparts. Archer and Bumrah arguably had worse and long duration recoveries. But their pace didn't dropped. So it's a lie to say you cannot get back to your pre-injury pace and form.

He’s not eating high quality vegetarian food as is recommended by most world class dietitians today.

He has some genetic issue and needs to be continue bowling in order to have enough twitch fibers to keep bowling fast but as a result his fatigue level also becomes high resulting him in losing his pace so it's a two edge sort , if he get rest then his pace will decrease because of loss of twitch fibers and if he keeps bowling his pace will decrease as a result of fatigue, He needs 24X7 surveillance in order to be optimum , It's better if we find another pacer which doesn't have these issues and we can use Shaheen for shorter format , Longer format is not sustainable for him at all.

What's your source for this genetic issue and twitch fibers that you're describing?

better to give him a rest now because if in his peak age he cant bowl in 140s so better dont expect any improvement in later half of his career.

He should focus on increasing his swing and seam even at 130-137K he can still be deadly but the problem is he thinks he is a 150k+ bowler and just attack the batsmen without thinking much resulting him in losing control and accuracy and providing free runs to the batter.

Pace won't work it you are not smart. Shaheen is not using his brain whenever he fails to get wickets in early overs.

Shaheen seems to be going Irfan Pathan way, focussed on batting and lost his primary art by transforming into a trundling shadow of his former self. Really dissapointing.

Excellent point. Without mastering his primary job, he started obsessing with batting. Even promoted himself higher up the order in the PSL.

Truly delusional kid.

His arrogant behavior is a major reason his fitness has declined drastically... PCB must send him to play first-class cricket so he can improve his fitness level which will also help increase his pace.
